41  Other / Meta / Re: How Do You Feel About This New System?? on: February 11, 2018, 11:48:51 PM

You're making great posts and people like you will have no issue in 'ranking' up. It's just the lazies who got used to being able to fly through ranks just by posting the most generic of shitposts that are going to have great problems. If only they could be bothered putting the same amount of effort they do for the whining about the merit system into the regular posts they'd be no issue at all.

I have read the posts of Nullius and they are indeed extremely good. But he is an exception. The system should work for a decent majority, not only for the truly excellent ones. "people like you" you say, but there are a very few like Nullius, if at all. If only the truly excellent ones can "rank up", then you don't even need this system, you just can pick up that dozen people who is really excellent and give them a Legendary ad honorem rank and that's it. The system should allow a decent majority (or a decent minority) to rank up as if nothing had changed, and just put limits for the indecent minority (or indecent majority). There is still time to improve the system so that this is achieved.

I’m glad you appreciate my posts.  But what you say brings to mind something pertinent which has been sitting in my drafts pile for a few days.  The relevant part is that to “rank up”, it’s not necessary to earn merit at anywhere close to the rate I do.  I can often earn +20–30 per day.  Comparing merit and activity thresholds for rank, the system seems designed with an expectation that an ordinary, decent poster will earn on average about +1 per day.  That sounds reasonable, does it not?

It sound absolutely reasonable. I couldn't agree more. The day when every ordinary, decent poster (we are not speaking about the few excellent ones) will naturally get on average one merit a day or so (or a bit less, or bit more, of course), then the merit system will have perfectly succeeded in its mission. In fact listening to theymos it was designed for achieving this result. And I would already be happy the moment it would reach even half of that success.

Anyone with this sum of coins in my experience wouldn't have to ask this question.

This is what I'm thinking too. Chances are very high, but really very high, that the guy is just trolling. And people giving him advise are just talking to themselves.
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CryoGen - Cryopreservation technologies. PRE-ICO is live now. on: February 11, 2018, 12:43:08 AM
I don't know if someone of the team is aware that your bounty campaign seems to be in a state of total abandonment. The spreadsheet which in every campaign it keeping record of the stakes earned but the campaigners, has never been updated, probably from November. This is not serious at all, not to speak about being respectful to the people your bounty manager (if you have any) has "hired" to promote your project, and it could shred a bad light on the project in the whole. I like your project and I will get some of your tokens for my afterlife myself, but please take properly care of your own campaigns.
44  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do people actually buy coins with real life money? on: February 11, 2018, 12:32:54 AM
It the price of coins is rising, be sure that someone somewhere is buying with FIAT money - Lol. people who are claiming that Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme motivate that exactly on the base that more and more people are coming into the game from outside and they push up the prices with their new fresh money - and when the inflow of new money would stop, everything would crash.
Different people are arranging money for altcoin investment, some people who do not have their own investment to invest in altcoin, they first earn through bounty campaigns and then invest it in different altcoin, while some people directly change their real money into bitcoin or any other altcoin for buying coins.

True, this is an aspect I was overlooking. Of course there are people who get altcoins just by the way of taking part to bounty campaigns. In fact, I had momentarily forgotten that I happen to be one of those guys myself, even though in the past I have also put FIAT in cryptos. Smiley
45  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: WTF just happened?? Bitfinex scam ?? on: February 11, 2018, 12:19:11 AM
there is this button on your keyboard called PrtSc which takes a screenshot of what you are seeing Grin

anyways bitfinex is as it has always been, a small part of the bitcoin market currently with about 6% of the total volume. i seriously doubt (as i have always doubted this before) that they are using printed tether to buy bitcoin. a market that small can not change much.

besides seeing lots of buys happening at some price level doesn't necessarily mean some shenanigan is going on. it might as well be some FOMO buying of weak hands who bought bitcoin at $12k+ dumped at $9k in panic, FOMO bought back at $10200 and sold again at $9k+ level. there is no reason for these people's behavior to suddenly change just because price is now lower!

Technically speaking, it could even be the activity of bots, since I guess that big financial groups don't put employees to press buttons for days and days if they can put bots. Of course, one would expect that bots are better programmed though.
46  Other / Meta / Re: How Do You Feel About This New System?? on: February 11, 2018, 12:15:28 AM
I don't care about activity points, ranks, or these new merits points to be honest. I don't limit my judgment on the quality of a member on these artificially created merits. All that matters to me is the quality of your posts.

But to a sig spammer it's the opposite. They don't care about quality of posts, just hitting the highest rank they can as fast as they can with the lowest amount of effort possible. That's why merit should hopefully change this culture because making shitposts will get you nowhere pretty fast.

Feel free to comment about it guys !

Most people seem to be ignoring the main and positive purpose of the merit system:  It gives appreciation and encouragement to good posters.

The whiners are exactly the ones who should go away.

Signed,

A user who ranked up from Jr. Member to Member on 30 January, and thus started with zero merit.

48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Theoretical question] Could the whole BTCnetwork run on a handful of computers? on: February 01, 2018, 10:30:30 PM

It could stop confirmations for a very long time.  If that time was long enough, then there would probably be demands that a hard fork be created to adjust the difficulty.

Right. I didn't think at the hard fork option, but of course this is the perfectly obvious solution. Actually a big dropdown in hash power could happen also in the case of a solar flair strong enough to put out of orders electrical devices and computers, but in this case I guess mankind would have superior problems to deal with.
49  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: WTF just happened?? on: February 01, 2018, 10:25:00 PM
I just downloaded the bitfinex T&S, he bought at least 6000 BTC's and gave away probaby $500 on half of them, so that's 1.5 million USD he just gave away. Makes no sense at all unless it's somebody with fake tether money.
wow single user buying at least 6000 BTC and here i was thinking of holding the famous 21 bitcoins in the hope of becoming a millionaire one day. But are these accusations true that this user used fake tether Huh how  is that even possible  Huh

I don't know if it's true that he's using fake tether. But I do know it was a single user since he used the same refresher/hidden order on a few key levels. I'm just saying, if this was somebody interested in buying BTC at good prices why would he keep holding the $9000 and buy 6000 btc's there while the other markets were trading below $8500 ? That just makes no sense at all from a normal economic perspective. This combined with the recent rumours that bitfinex is using fake (printed, without usd backed) tether to buy other crypto's makes me very suspicious.

Even with tether a normal user would try to spend less than possible, so the allegation that it was Bitfinex itself behing is the most likely one. I guess they would use a badly instructed bot to place all the orders, otherwise even Bitfinex would have bought cheaper.
50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Theoretical question] Could the whole BTCnetwork run on a handful of computers? on: February 01, 2018, 09:37:47 PM
If all the computers in this world would focus only on the mining algorithm they still couldn't reach even that small percent that the Bitcoin network is offering. If you could swap somehow to CPU(general) instead of ASIC the electricity would have to cost trillions of dollars, euros(any strong FIAT) to match the number of calculated hashes per moment.

Bitcoin network has supreme power and it is unreplaceable right now!

But this also means that should the Chinese shut down overnight ALL mining centers which exist in China, the rest of the network would possibly not manage to solve the algorithm of the next block for ages, since the difficulty gets adjusted only every two weeks - IF AND WHEN a block is confirmed. This could freeze Bitcoin forever... right?
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it risky to turn all my money to bitcoins? on: February 01, 2018, 09:33:07 PM
To have the ultimate answer to your question you should really give a look at the market today. And then try to imagine how you would feel if you had turned all your money to Bitcoin when it was 20,000$.
52  Economy / Speculation / Re: WHAT IS CAUSING BITCOIN TO DROP?????????? on: February 01, 2018, 09:30:57 PM
Perhaps there are more people selling BTCs than people buying BTCs?
This is why they call it a market, because the price can go down just as it can go up.
53  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: NordFX: Trade Bitcoin & More with Leverage 1:1000! on: February 01, 2018, 09:27:52 PM
1:1000 leverage in a volatile market like cryptocurrencies is totally insane. If you use that leverage entirely you are very likely to lose your whole capital, since a 0.1% drop of the price if you are long would already put you in big trouble - in other words wipe out your money.

THIS-IS-ASTONISHING.
I guess nobody knows about this, I didn't see other people reporting this fact. This is a major fact that cannot be overlooked - the whole community should learn about it, and especially realize the implications of it.

Really?
Are you sure we are speaking about the same Bitcoin?
BTC is taking diving lessons right now...
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A bigger dip to come? on: February 01, 2018, 09:03:52 PM
It's won't dip , it's will crash like in 2014.
can we get back to 1 dollar?  Lips sealed

 Grin

If we go back to 1 dollar I am afraid we won't ever go over the 3%  again - LoL.
Crashing like in 2014 would mean going back to the $3000-$4000 range.
57  Other / Meta / Re: How Do You Feel About This New System?? on: February 01, 2018, 09:00:52 PM
I am new here but i think i have come to this forum at a right time. A new system is being in place and i hope it will be easy for me to achieve all the higher ranks if i just focus on one thing which is Quality posting and forget about everything.

i guess it is hard for a newbie specially those jr member to rank up  because people will not be able to rank up unless someone will give them a merit that they need most , and i guess if someone dont know a person they dont give a merit to him even that person is a quality poster .

Wrong. Newbies become Juniors with no need of merits. And Juniors need only 10 merits (versus 60 activity) to become Members. The problem begins with Members who need 100 merits (versus 120 activity) to become Full Members, and escalates with Full members ho need 250 merits (versus 240 activity) to become senior Members, and so on. Since it is easier to rise your activity than your merits, the whole ranking up process will be considerably slowed down. Which probably is not such a bad thing, especially as the bad posters will never rank up at all, so in the whole the landscape of the forum should improve in time.
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin decline has ended? on: February 01, 2018, 08:57:27 PM
As I had been suggesting days ago, the decline did not end. Positive thinking does not help when events are out of your control.
59  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Russia on: February 01, 2018, 08:41:19 PM
We all know that cryptocurrency and Russia have contradictory relationships.

Russia seeking for the way how to regulate cryptocurrency, for example, some of Russians officials claim that bitcoin and cryptocurrency should be considered as "goods" and not a "currency". Also, they banned well known Russian media about cryptocurrency. They still don't want to legalize Bitcoin explaining that this currency is used for money-laundering and illegal business.

On the other hand, there are a lot ICO campaigns in Russia. Almost every week the crypto and blockchain events are organized. And Russian crypto community is quite big. There is project I also represent. So that is why it is very important for me.

Do you believe that one day Russian government will legalize Bitcoin and join cryptocommunity?
yes i do believe that one they that they will not only accept it, but they will also be making use of it as a method of payment. the only constants thing that we have in this life is change.. as time goes on and they find out the benefit of have cryptocurrency in the society they will have no other option than to join the leading team.

I am more likely to think that Russia will go forward with the creation of their own cryptoruble or whatever, under control of the state instead of under control of Chinese miners and Wall Street sharks (which probably are now accumulating BTC like there is no tomorrow)
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shopin CEO Eran Eyal has 'no doubt' bitcoin will cross $100,000 on: February 01, 2018, 08:38:53 PM
Nearly nobody believed when Bitcoin was new that it would reach 10k. Now today we are talking about 100k damn that is high. I think that it has the potential to reach that target. Bitcoin is so weird sometimes it can sometimes go very high in the price. I hope that it will recover soon and be back at 19k.
Yes, you can check it out the previous threads, (early 2017) and you will find that most of the predictions is around $5k-$6K range. And then boom, we almost touch $20K at the end of 2017. So I guess every prediction can really be hit as long as new investors are coming in to pour fresh blood into the ecosystem.

It's a good news if such a prediction like that will occur, but when should I be able to do it? Hopefully, there will be no impact on transaction fees because other small players or investors will find it difficult to increase the fees along with the bitcoin's price increases.
Casuals like us has the option to use Segwit, I don't know if you familiar with it, but it has tremendously reduce the cost of transaction. I advise you to change your legacy wallet and see it for yourself. And then Lightning Network is being workout. So LN+SW will be the best solution to the ever growing tx fees and slow confirmation time.

Just as people didn't guess it one year ago, they are likely not to guess it now. Everybody talking of 100,000$ in 2018 or so, I am afraid we'll be happy if we'll be in the 10k-20k range this year...
