41  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitaddress not sweeping correctly on: June 09, 2020, 02:29:44 PM
Any thing I should do to make sure my comp is free from malware?

Either burn a live Linux onto a stick and boot from it (Tails OS also has Electrum on it, some trust it, some not, just beware that usually the info from there is not persistent = it's lost at booting),
either clean your system by burning or putting onto a stick an antivirus iso (Kaspersky or any other antivirus producer you prefer), booting from it and put it to work.

I think I'm going to grab a cheap laptop right now to minimise risk, and then stick electrum on it. Is there an easy to follow guide someone would recommend? Better to be a PC is suppose over a Mac? Any minimum requirements needed. I have a Trezor I can use too to beef up the security.

Hopefully I'll have a result back later today  Undecided

ICG does same day as well at $90.00 per coin.  They will also do high resolution photos of the front and the back of the coin for $10.00 per coin.

1 day - $90.00 each to grade and slab
2 days - $50.00 each to grade and slab
5 days - $25.00 each to grade and slab
7 - 21 days $20.00 each to grade and slab

p.s.  NOBODY goes in the grading room..... a small peek is all Charlie and I got into that room back then.  I still haven't been in there and I'm there weekly.  It's meant to be secure and for the graders only, and it is.

A couple of Qs if you don't mind as you seem pretty up on this.

ICG and ANACS. Any difference in prestige or value given to the coins if graded highly?

Have there been any complaints from the service of either? Ant red flags? Just a little cautious given the value of coins bigger than 1BTC.

In your experience what kind of premium would a top graded slab give over a bottom grade/ungraded?

Thanks

Not addressed to me, but going to go ahead and answer anyway as I am feeling frisky.

ANACS beginning in 2017 or so gives all Cas Silvers 68 or 69 and all brass 67 or 68.  Prior to that, anacs grades were lower.  We are all pretty new to ICG but imo grades seem to be more along with what the coin deserves.  I suspect ANAC's business model was somewhat based on us all cracking earlier graded coins and having them regraded.

Have there been any complaints from the service of either? Ant red flags? Just a little cautious given the value of coins bigger than 1BTC.

Historically ANACS has been very slow to return coins, ICG returns coins in exactly the time service you pay for.  In general, fuck ANACS service, ICG lovely service.

Depends on the coin really.  A Cas 1.0 Silver graded at ms69 would price out around 0.1 btc higher than a naked coin of similar condition imo.

Great info there, thanks.  I'll be calling them later today.

The only real question now is  how does the US feel about walking in to their country with physical crypto. Anyone had any experience of that?
43  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casacius Coins on: June 09, 2020, 06:01:54 AM
I would be interested in them all too. For past auctions i usually just use google with a site search

ie
[auction] Casascius site:bitcointalk.org

Great tip thanks, I always find the search box on the forum delivering weird results in no particular order.

Regarding all the other requests I will get some pics up hopefully later today.

If I go and get a cheap laptop tomorrow and do it on a brand new machine are there any risks involved there? Assuming its a brand new out of the box one?

Is the address you created Legacy or Segwit?
Is the address you see on blockchain.com Legacy or Segwit?

Blockchain does not fully support Segwit as of now, and the issue might be just there.

It was from before the whole segwit thing

Well, that makes the possibilities I found 0  Cheesy

So is there some place to go in EU for grading crypto or it is only in USA right now?

Thank you

CGS in the UK has graded Casascius coins in the past.  Their grading scale is a bit different as it goes to 100.

The current collectibles section standard is ICG out of Tampa, Florida.

Ok. Well looks like it is the US thing only right now  Undecided

Thank you for the information

Did you find out any more info?

I have a number of coins I have long considered grading but just deemed the whole process not really worth it. I am sure they are in great condition as have been in cases forever and kept in the dark. Is the potential value gain worth the cost?

I remember someone was doing group grading a few years ago but haven't seen anything like that for a while.

Also,  not sure how happy id be letting a loaded coin above 1BTC out of my sight

Hey Smiley No, unfortunately grading for crypto coins seems like US thing only for now.

I think your only way is to send it to the grading company directly or send it to Minerjones or some other trusted member from here, and he can take care of it for a small fee I think.

If it is worth it or not, that is a question for more experienced collectors, as I am new in collectibles, but I personally like it graded, especially Casascius coins and the coins with higher value...If anything else, it is good protection of the coin.

But if I may advise, don't send it overseas right now, at least not with national posts. There is total havoc in the overseas shipping due to the coronavirus, I have sent few packages and some of them are "IN TRANSIT" for several weeks without any updates in the online tracking, crazy.

So maybe wait a bit before the posts operate in normal way..? I think right now the chance of losing your coin or be stuck "ON THE WAY" somewhere is pretty high. Best bet would be probably to use some trusted crypto courier or fly there personally.

Anyway, good luck to you and your collection  Smiley

Yes I was thinking flying there personally would be the only way if I was seriously going to do it. Only problem would be would need it turned around ideally same day and I'd prefer to not have them out of my sight.

I suppose they have done many and would be considered trustworthy but still...

Also, not sure what the deal is with flying into the US with a high value amount of physical BTC. Has anyone heard of anyones experience in this? I gather 10k in cash is the standard amount to declare, it would obviously be higher with just a couple of coins so would be interesting to know

Will escrow through minerjones if anyone is looking sell

Prefer funded by smoothie, not buyer.

Have you got a price you're looking for?

Graded or raw?

All of the above, all ungraded but very good condition. Anything particular you're after?

Let me know and I can take some pics

Has this issue happened before though? Where someone has the private key given by bitaddress and the coins are still visible with public key.

Basically the key pair is not correct? I've never heard of that before

Thanks
54  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casacius Coins on: June 08, 2020, 05:10:29 PM
check back a few posts. 0.5 coins just auctioned for 0.53

Nice one, heard people are nervous of fakes. Is that pretty common right now or still something that is not massively worried about? Luckily kept emails from Mike so can verify everything
55  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casacius Coins on: June 08, 2020, 05:07:54 PM
How about you post a picture of the item you are asking about as there are several variables that come into play?  Add a sheet of paper in the picture with your username and the current bitcoin block height.

The next thing for you to do would be to use the search bar at the top and do a little research for yourself.  That is why it was placed there.  Wink

Thanks mate, I've sold plenty of coins and organised group buys with casascius years ago for people on the forum. Very aware of how the search function works, just thought I'd ask the forum to get a rough idea quickly as am a little tied up with another matter right now.  Wink

Also wondered if maybe someone had collated the info into a site or database over the last few years that I maybe I missed.

I have used bit address.org for years and have never had any issues at all. Always used offline saved javascript version and never even had a glitch.

I went to sweep an old wallet today into blockchain and the coins did not appear even though but said the wallet was imported. )I could not see the public address in the list of imported addresses. I tried a second blockchain account and it said wallet imported  again  and the only address it said was imported was a different one to the one I have.

Is this an issue with blockchain.com? Should I try somewhere else before I start getting worried?

Thanks for any help given

When you created the private key with bitaddress.org did you include Bip38 password encryption?

Not that I recall. I just generated addresses from the javascript while offline

57  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitaddress not sweeping correctly on: June 08, 2020, 04:23:15 PM
The thing I was a little bi concerned about is the fact that a different public key was imported and a google search on bit address said something about it reusing addresses.

Didn't really understand it but didn't like the sound of it either
58  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitaddress not sweeping correctly on: June 08, 2020, 04:14:15 PM
The funds are still win the public address and have been for a long time.

I have used a saved version of bit address forever. I have never used the newer versions (rightly or wrongly) because of the fact that I always trusted the previous version I had. I have also used the version I have saved many times since the time I used it to create the address in question with no issues.

I will try electrum, I have a tremor somewhere so it might be worth going through that first. I did hear some people had issues with their tremors over the last few years which is probably why I didn't migrate to it from paper wallets even though I thought it might be there best idea

Any thing I should do to make sure my comp is free from malware?
59  Economy / Collectibles / Casacius Coins on: June 08, 2020, 03:47:55 PM
Whats the going rate for a casacius single nowadays? Is there an easy way to see previous recent sales?

Proof of sale back to Mike Caldwell would be available too

Thanks
