Looks like Ripple has decoupled from Bitcoin.

“In fact our ATMs were seeing decent sales figures on average right until the recall. However, as we worked more with Bitcoin itself as a currency and a commodity of trade, we realized that Bitcoin had many weaknesses that stood in the way of it gaining widespread acceptance and stability,” says Jarrod Luo, co-founder and COO of Tembusu.

The TRUST framework, based on the Ripple code base, enables offline transactions, uses proof-of-identities, and has a credit worthiness scoring system. It also lets users recover their money after a hacking incident. Ripple is a popular alternative to Bitcoin.
...
That’s a whole lot of ambition. What’s noteworthy though is that the word “Bitcoin” has been dropped entirely from the site, which could be part of its strategy of engaging banks and governments, who are wary of the term and its association with crime.

Coinbase's 24hr volume less than a third of Stamp and BTCe.  I thought this new US compliant exchange was supposed to save the day by attracting lots of new fiat.   Huh Huh Huh

why don't you give it some time?

It's an urgent matter.

Hello,

I was just curious if there is any sort of bitcoin bug bounty?
I have discovered a serious bug in all previous (and current) bitcoin reference clients which would allow a denial of service on an arbitrary number of bitcoind nodes (as run by exchanges for example).
While this bug may not leak any private data, it allows you to shoot down bitcoin nodes that you are directly connected to. Arbitrary code execution may be possible (but was not tested).

The denial of service works, tested locally in Bitcoin 0.9 and 0.10 branches.
Newspapers or Journalists may ask me for a demonstration in private.

If anyone is intrested in a disclosure, I am asking 10 BTC for my time doing a write-up
including detailed explanations: 1LaV9xQvmd1gR4fYYWgFMpPXEgAwBYCQN1

If the balance will not reach 10 BTC, I will pay all amounts back. I will also cover the transaction costs myself.

is he a serious guy?

Might be a way to scam 10 BTC.

If he really wanted a bounty for it he could get a world from theymos or other rich bitcoiners that they would give him 10 BTC as soon they proof the bug is true

Dunno, but from the same thread:

You can't seriously expect people to pay you UPFRONT for such a disclosure?!

If you actually know of such an exploit, contact the devs privately and responsibly disclose it ASAP. Then you can ask for your bounty, and you'll probably get more than 10BTC.

It is much more likely there is a bug in the software as compared to the odds there is a 'bug' in the math. :-)

Bitcoin is insanely underrated. Just look at uber, its silly how its bigger than Bitcoin. we'll see massive marketcap in 10 years. Trillions.
But bitcoin is not a business. Its a form of currency.

A penny stock posing as a currency would be more accurate.

54  Economy / Speculation / Re: This is getting ridiculous on: January 31, 2015, 04:25:13 AM
Let me elaborate.

Your argument (generously):

p1: IF an investment is dumbed down, THEN it will attract money.  [P then Q.]

p2: Crypto (an investment) is not dumbed down. [not P.]  Therefore, it does not attract money. [Therefore, not Q.  Conclusion doesn't follow because "not P" does not imply "not Q."  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denying_the_antecedent.]

C:  IF crypto becomes a dumbed down investment, THEN it will attract money.

p2's conclusion is illogical and doesn't support your argument.  Your main conclusion is merely an example of p1.  In other words, p1 is your conclusion. In this circular process, you are trying to compare a stock to crypto without providing any sort of argument.

You are welcome.
I forgot that noobs can not into advanced rationality.
The argument is actually sound:

Premises:
1. Money is drawn into easily appealing, understandable and accessible investments (as demonstrated by this burger chain)
2. Crypto currencies are neither easily understandable nor accessible to mainstream investors/ investment vehicels.
Conclusion:
If Cryptos ever reach such extremely dumbed down levels, they will draw money far beyond the current VC investment.

All easily appealing, understandable and accessible investments, or some?  If the latter, how do you determine which?

Is this accurate?  Coinbase doing less than half of BTCe's volume?

I'd assume so. Not really surprising. The exchange just opened, and it does not seem buys on the regular Coinbase site execute as market buys on the exchange.

That would be an indirect--and probably illegal--way around whatever laws the exchange side is attempting to satisfy.

So, how is Coinbase not in violation the laws aimed at its own exchange when it purchases coins from foreign non-compliant exchanges and then in turn sells to US customers?  Does Coinbase require its overseas partners to meet the still unknown local regulations?    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
