Hi fellow forumers,
Most of us needs merits to rank up but it seems its hard to achieve it.Also, there are high ranking members who did not know where to put or whom to give their sMerits. I think this is a good thread to start with.
There are already members giving away merit points in their threads to deserving posts. You got no merit points to give so what is the point of this thread ? Are you on the mercy of other member to shower their merits in this thread ?

You are doing great work. Keep it up.

Glad that a new member is taking out his time to report suspicious behavior. Some suggestions for you: 1) We already have a thread about merit abuse where all members are reporting such cases. Link to the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2896910.02) You should also quote the messages for which these merits were sent so that we can judge better.

This might not be fair for new people, I don't know if others will ever consider to give merit to newbies. Guess I had to been registered here like 1year back to get some kind of "good" positions. Juniors and newbies are often treated poorly and seen as funny guys around, not taken seriously.
I totally agree with this opinion .. how can we get recognition if we beginners in the eyes of one eye is there a better way out? Not true, I mainly read the posts and do not see the current member rank. I am also new here and get good response from all the senior members here. There may be some exceptions but I focus on positive side.

Same member posting same content in different threads: I wont agree to have a demerit system. My reasons are listed below.
-- Demerit system might put a huge wall between members instead of having a good conversation with others.
-- Letting other members to give demerit to others is not a good idea. There might be people who might give demerit to other member that they dont like.
-- People tends to retaliates when somebody mocks them. So its possible for two members to give demerits with each other until they both loss all their merits.
-- Demerits will add to the difficulty to rank up.
For me this forum is created so that the members here will help each other to grow. Do you agree with me?
Ps. If you think it is captivating, im happy to receive merits
I dont know but i think demerit system is not a good idea. This is my reasons :

If there was demerit system, I am sure that this post deserved some. You are posting the same content that you used in your thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2975179.0

Keep the merrit system as it is: a tool to honor poster who try write helpful posts. The ability to demerrit accounts would be desastrous in my opinion. No one would ever try to argue with anyone again, simply due to the fact, the other poster could be pissed and demerries you.
Gaining merrits is hard enough for us "newbies", don't bring in a system which is capable of destroying the forum as a place where someone can express his/her opinion without having to fear of punishment.
Actually merit system is for quality posts. Once a member achieves the desired merit points for ranking up, he can start posting garbage again to reach activity. Also, there are some, opening new threads on same topics, they should be dealt with something like demerits.

Ps. I hope my english is on point,so if you found something wrong you can correct me so that i can learn more.
Simple solution to this problem is to give that privilege only to staff. I also think that merit system is not needed but then I see a thread like this one and I have to rethink. You should express this opinion in already existing thread about demerits. Like these: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2970478.0https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2963600.0

I propose to disable signatures for Jr. Members or implement Merit system for Jr. ranks (5 Merits for example).
Signatures had already been disabled for Jr members. Signature campaigns like 777 coin has removed all such participants already.

This means, the amount of merits gets less over time. Example: User A send 5 merits to user B, who is now able to send 2.5 merit to user C, who is now able to send 1.25 merit to user D... and so on until zero merits are left. As stated in the title, this is only a criticism in the hope of developping the system further. I really appreciate the new system since quality posts seem to be rare here.
Only if you read the complete post there carefully. There are merit sources who get some merits to spend per month. There is no shortage of merit points and changes are being made as well. For instance, the admin is adding more merit sources. I suggest you to read the responses in the official thread as well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

I think it'll be useless rank, there are already a good number of ranks and after merit system I think adding another rank will be not good option.
What is the motivation for a current legendary member to make quality posts then. I agree that most of the senior members are mature and understand the rules. But there are some who got lucky and achieved this rank because they had the activity at the time of merit system. Such members also need to be tested to maintain quality in posts on this forum.

I have already said my peace several times in this thread. I see myself coming back again and again though, which must mean that I am having a truce rather than peace with it. I keep telling myself that no known to man system is perfect, but that we can get pretty close if we share opinions based on previous and present experiences and act on them. It is, however, becoming clearer and clearer to me that this system with its upsides and flaws isn't going to change, but that it is my attitude towards it that has to. Whenever I come back to this thread - and I will - it will be to share constructive thoughts and criticism on how to deal with the merit system, rather than thoughts on how to change it. You should too as anything else is a waste of energy. I also think that members should realize by now that this new merit system is not going to be reversed. We have seen the admin being open to changes and that should be sufficient.

If you mentioned the reason for getting banned, we could help you in a better way. It is evident that you must have broke some rule like posting copied content in your responses here. Harsh decisions like banning are taken only for serious spamming.
