41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to expand the number of PCIe devices on a Main Board? on: June 22, 2018, 03:48:35 AM
Thanks much for all responses!  Here is a screenshot from a different user using an ASRock AMD MB.

This user reported that the setting did not work.  ASUS does not seem interested.  Thanks and enjoy, John.

EDIT: The video above is from an Intel MB, not AMD.

Of course its an Inetl MB...Its an ASUS B250 Mining Expert and thats what that conversation was about. Read ALL of the context.

Thanks, nitrobg.  By disabling as much PCIe stuff (USB Root controllers, NICs, etc) the ASUS board will post with 16 GPUs but only 12 are recognized by W10.  The MB does not have "Above 4GB" setting in UEFI.  Perhaps all 16 could be used if available.  Thanks all for the help.  I learned a lot.  Enjoy, John.
actually it has "above 4G decoding" setting.
Unlikely, because he's using an AMD board and Above 4G is an Intel feature - I'll need to dig into my AMD rig's bios to see what the option was. I'm not sure what are AMD's limits because it could be utilizing the PCI-E lanes differently.
OP, please try running Linux.
umm, what?
ASUS B250 Mining Expert is an Intel board, I have one and I'm pretty sure that it has the "above 4g decoding" option in UEFI.
12 GPUs are recognized because Adrenaline Driver for Windows can run up to 12 AMD GPUs max.
Yes it does indeed. See post#8 for a link to youtube video showing the bios. (not my video)

Not released yet.

welcome to Russia. a wonderful country Smiley

not sure what you are talking about, bro. Roll Eyes

You dont know because you "may not know any other way".  But hey, this goes more into a political, national, etc type discussion that I am sure nobody else wants to hear about.  Atleast not in this thread anyway.  PM me if you want to chat.

Absolutely, I havent heard anything concerning price.  Not even speculation as of yet.  I suspect this year at current coin prices there wont be an 1/8 of the demand that existed for the mining expert 8 months ago for the mining master motherboard.  That could work in our favor and maybe get them for pretty close to the cost of a mining expert.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How To EASILY Clean Your Mining Rig - Cleaning 1 Year Old Miner +Any Other Tips? on: June 18, 2018, 08:26:21 AM
There is no way in hell I would use a compressor unless (A) the air pressure was regulated down (B) the whole system has a Drier installed.  Theres a genius idea... Use compressed air full of water and blow it all over an electronic circuit.

I got this..https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0787KXTFW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1&pldnSite=1

Probably too expensive for someone running a few GPU's but im over 30 gpu's and time is money and money not to be wasted on cans of air.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 12 GPU Mining Rig Help. on: June 18, 2018, 07:31:38 AM
your PSU's won't handle all that cards. you definitely need additional power Roll Eyes
Say what? How on earth do you come to that conclusion? Lets see your math. Ill show you mine right now.

Rig with 12 1070Ti's at 150 TDP each. (No overclock or TDP adjustments) https://www.buriedone.com/hashrates

actually TDP on my 1070Ti's and P104-100's is 180W, bro. loading your PSUs to the limit isn't good thing either, better to have some power reserve remaining.

if I understand OP right - 1070's run fine, but there are issues with 2x 12x1070ti's rigs. I am pretty sure this is related to additional power that Ti's require.

Even at 180w each 6 of them is 1080w which is just fine for a 1300w PSU.  1080w draw on a 1300w PSU isnt shutting anything down.  Put TDP at 65% and overclock +150/+500 and the magic will happen.

Check out Asus! They are coming out with the H370 Mining Master. 20 "slots", usb (No pci) connection.  https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H370-MINING-MASTER/
The thing is, the H370 still requires you to have special 'Mining edition' cards to reach full capacity if you want to use more than 12-13 cards, and there's really not a lot of differences between it and the B250 board besides a gimmicky USB connection instead of PCI. Your current B250 board is just fine and the H370 will bring little to no improvements if you choose to buy it.

Youve never had that damn PCI slot to USB adapter shut down your whole rig because it got jostled or the wind blew the wrong way?  Id love for my Mining Expert board to have all USB connections instead of PCIe.

Rig with 12 1070Ti's at 150 TDP each. (No overclock or TDP adjustments) https://www.buriedone.com/hashrates

6 1070 TI's per PSU= 6x150w=900w

PSU1= 900w
PSU2=900 + CPU/Motherboard/SATA 200w= 1100w

and each of his PSU's are rated for 1300w

I would still give them a 65% TDP Overclock  +150 clock/+500 memory and the power usage will go even lower. https://www.buriedone.com/tuning

Problems are probably a combination of BIOS setting and/or update AND/OR Driver issues during install.  Go into device manager and click on view tab then show hidden devices and have a look at the mess under Display Adapters and Sound and Video Controllers.

DDU to remove it all and disconnect all GPU's.  Install one at a time and reboot after drivers install for each GPU.  Boot back up and verify GPU installed successfully.  Then and only then shut down and install next GPU. Repeat cycle until all are installed.

This pretty much falls under spend $20 to make a nickel.  This will destroy your phone because of the excess heat.

You are such a funny boy. Mining at 10 cents/kwh is not profitable at all. It's just a waste of time and bit money. Better try fishing or smth like that Smiley

Not profitable at all you say? I have a mixed rig of 6x 1060 and 2x 1080 mining ZEN that makes $8.50 in profit per day net of electric costs of $0.12US/kw-h.

Granted, it's not nearly as good as it was back in January when I was bringing in nearly 3x that amount, but a profit is a profit.

I have another rig (incomplete due to GPU shortage) of 4x RX 560 that makes about $2 in net profit mining MUSIC.

And a motley collection of CPUs and an RX 570 mining ITNS that may or may not be profitable, but I don't really care because I am waiting for more progress on their VPN.

So, yeah, mining is still profitable, just not "throw a dart at any shitcoin and go" profitable.

It's not possible to have profit from mining with electricity costs at $0.1 and more try to fix your calculator.

Your math sucks. Go work on it!  At .1/kwh there is profit.

Just waiting for winter to arrive so they can be dual purpose heaters.

They do make great space heaters! I told my wife we need a couple rigs in every room!

Full home solar i all most don't pay any thing for Electricity i love it, i can mine all most endlessly rather it's a good time or not .as long as i can stand the heat and noise, I'm gonna mine, Electricity is no issue for me .

SO I'll keep mining a way.

So Santa Claus delivered you a whole home solar power system?

Youre not fooling anyone, your power isnt free.  You just paid for it up front and have how many decades before you get ROI on it?  How much equipment will you have to replace before the ROI day comes? Hmmm
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX Vega 64 sapphire limited edition - burned capacitor on: June 11, 2018, 01:05:17 AM

Anyone familiar with "where's wally?"

I'm not a professional but i was looking at your image and i can't seem to see which part of this GPU / capacitor is actually burned? Could anyone encircle it in red maybe? I would appreciate any tips because seeing as i can't spot any burned capacitors I may be already running some of my GPUs that are about to die.

C908.  Look for that designator silkscreened onto the board. Its just to the right and down from dead center of the pic.  Look for a horizontal rectangle with what looks like a bubble popped in its center.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX Vega 64 sapphire limited edition - burned capacitor on: June 10, 2018, 11:08:02 PM
same as my GPU (R9) capacitor burned and 2 days later dead..

dude, you're lucky it GPU is still normal.

as far as I know, the capacitor can be as an electrical retarder or temporary power storage but I'm not sure if those functions are the same on GPU.
R in R9 denotes a resistor NOT a capacitor.

A capacitor opposes a change in voltage, it doesnt retard it. It can also be used to block certain frequency ranges and smooth ac out of a dc power supply.

Id need to see a schematic to tell you what exactly the burned capacitor the OP showed is for but since the GPU works ok, my guess would be that its for a video or audio output signal.

Well, i think its really expensive. The cards dont have a great resell value.
I would rather pay 100-200$ more for a "normal" GTX 1080 Ti.

Very true.  Id buy them all day long if the right price was there since I intend on running them until they die a miserable heat/cold cycled death as long as they make back their ROI and then much more.  So I dont much care about resale value.  Its just how I buy autos too.  I run them until the wheels fall off, pay cash (never a loan) and dont get attached to a hunk of steel property that can be replaced.
