I guess I assumed that it was already plugged into a switch so that it could pull a DHCP address , hence I was asking you to check end to end layer 1 connectivity back to the DHCP service .

Silly me .

LOL

I was doing it the way doggie showed in this S4 discussion.  Really, silly me.  Thanks for your help.  That at least got me going the right direction and kept me from pulling my hair out.  I was beginning to think the worst.  Doing something with an SD and flash.

Always glad to help people in their search for the right direction … Good luck .

My Airport extreme base station only allows 10.0   192.168    and 127.16

Will that be an issue if this S4 has 127.0 and not 127.16?

should not be an issue… I would think the AirPort would hand out 192.168.x.x addresses .. My S4's pull a 192.168.10.X from my DHCP without issue .

the 127.0.0.1 is just a loopback on most devices nowadays, the S4 will sit with that until it is able to grab a DHCP address .

open the S4 and VERIFY that the cable to the front port is secure on both ends… I have seen were in shipping the cable comes lose from the BB controller to the run on the front of the S4. It happened more with the S2's but its always good to check . It sounds like the S4 is not talking DHCP to your airport . verify layer 1 end to end.

So my batch 2 unit wouldn't work out of the box. The display was showing the IP as 127.0.0.1. After a bit of messing around, I figured the SD card was to blame and that a reflash was in order.

To anyone else that gets this, you can usually clear it by simply pressing and holding the reset button [on the LCD].

That didn't work in my case, I attempted that twice. Absolutely had to reflash the SD card.

Fixed

Hi dogie,

I'm having trouble with my S4 that arrived at my door step approximately an hour ago.  Mine has an IP of 127.0.0.1 posted on the LCD as well.  I have reset 3 times and it still has the same IP.

Is it possible you can tell me what to do?

Do you have a DHCP server running on your network ?
45  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool: Pushing forward Decentralization on: November 12, 2014, 03:17:11 PM
If this is a totally separate p2pool like network but miners connect to Bitmain's servers only to mine on it, then they get the worst of all worlds: They get the increased work loss of frequent restarts, they get the high diff shares that will prevent them getting paid consistently unless they have very large hashrates, and there is no actual decentralisation since they'll be mining at a centralised pool created by bitmain that just happens to use the p2pool code for its backend but isn't really p2peer.

If all of the above is true, then bitmain has tried to cash in on the decentralisation concept by paying homage to the idea using p2pool without actually understanding it.

Fail.

I agree… and I also see this as a slap in the face after you were the first to come out and offer a REAL solo pool … This REALLY puts me in a twist… I see you do so many good things for the community, and then there are the others who just try to cash in on the hard work and investment of miners… I can't even begin to express how angry this makes me feel… Please keep up the great work on your end and I feel that other people in the community will see what you have done and continue to go your way .

I just pointed 8 THs at the pool, it looks like it is working fine… you did a great job, I wanted to set up a solo pool for MONTHS ! Cant think you enough .

48  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: November 10, 2014, 01:50:46 PM
In general, what is the consensus on the last batch of miners ? Are they hitting and keeping their target hash range  +/- ?
49  Economy / Digital goods / Free Bitmain AntMiner S3 coupons up to 5 on: November 10, 2014, 04:42:30 AM
I have over a 1000 S2 Bitmain AntMiner coupons for anyone who wants them up to 5 per Bitmain ID …. Send me a PM and I will send you the coupons they expire 11/13 so hurry before its to late .
50  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 ? on: November 10, 2014, 12:38:16 AM
it wouldnt be surprising i think - the S3 prices are unreasonable for anyone who pays >$0.10/kwh and havent been dropping much, almost as though they either have no issues selling at the current price, or simply have a limited supply thats dwindling at just the right speed.

Its known that 0.3w/GH gear isnt far off, and that a well-designed 28nm chip is capable of 0.3-0.4w/GH, or even that the current 28nm chip might offer ~0.4w/GH if aggressively undervolted.

the biggest clue in my mind is that the S3 units cant be selling very fast right now - as anyone outside china will have a hard time getting ROI with the shipping prices. I havent bought hardware in about 2 months for this reason

I live in the US and shipping prices have also stopped me from ordering hardware… I have over 1000 coupons for the S3 if anyone wants a few for free … there is no way I can order the S3 now with the current price . PM me your bitmain ID and I will send you up to 5 coupons for free .

...They sent me a replacment PSU for ALL batch 1 units and also sent me 10 day mining compensation for the unit that died … It took a while to get resolved, but in the end, they did everything they said they would . I have 4 S4's and honestly with the latest firmware, I have no complaints . I would have no issue buying another S4 …

How much BTC they are compensated ?
I ask because today I received a notice of SP20 compensation from spondoolies.

...Thank you for your purchase of the SP20 mining machine.

As you know, shipment of the SP20 was delayed beyond our promised October date.
Because we place high value on our customer relationships, we are compensating
customers whose delivery was affected.

We are offering 0.12 BTC per machine for the delay in shipment....

I got double what Spondoolies gave you .

Just a heads up … I was a batch one customer… I also had a PSU that went defective after a week of run time. Bitmain did everything they said they would… They sent me a replacment PSU for ALL batch 1 units and also sent me 10 day mining compensation for the unit that died … It took a while to get resolved, but in the end, they did everything they said they would . I have 4 S4's and honestly with the latest firmware, I have no complaints . I would have no issue buying another S4 …

I also have 1024 coupons for the S3… if ANYONE wants a free coupon send me your Bitmain ID and I will give you a coupon free of charge . There is no way I will buy 1024 S3's as much as I would like to, I just don't have the funds .

can you please let me know how many s4 you have in hand and how many of these miners arise with this chip issues?
How long will the O‘s last each time after you reset the X's on the chips and Xs show up again? please contact my email address info@bitmaintech.com. And i will be incontact with our engineers and tech guys to find a solution for you.

How do we do something like a power cycle to reset the O's and X's on the chips through SSH?

For example, sometimes I see X's on the chips and when I reboot through the GUI, it doesn't get corrected. It's only when I manually do a power cycle by powering it off and on from the power button is when all the chips turn back to O's on the status page.

The reason I am asking is because sometimes I get X's and i reboot it from the GUI remotely through a VPN and it doesn't get fixed. I don't want to have to keep going there and manually power cycle it every time because my S4 is located about an hour away and it's a hassle =(.

Any ideas?

I get X's randomly because i overclock the frequency to 225, and it runs without a problem at that frequency for awhile. It just randomly get's some X's here and there, which is why I was asking how to do a hard reboot through SSH because a soft reboot through the webpage/GUI won't correct the X's. It's only when I pull the plug or press the button on the PSU is when it's able to fix itself.

Any commands or hard reboot cycle through SSH that you can share?

I don't believe you can do a hard enough reboot via SSH that will reawaken X'ed chips. PSU restart it is.

I manage and oversee datacenters around the world for a global telecomm where I come from a hard reset means pulling the plug without question ..

Don't over clock the unit …. You will find that if you run them at the standard setting you will for the most part NOT get the XXXXXX ' s and the ----------- 's   You are right that once the chips get the XXXXXXXX 's or ----------- 's about the only thing that will fix it is a hard reset of the unit …

Wish I had good news… I'm on the phone with UPS … I just got a bill in the mail for UPS shipping fees associated with my PSU replacements … Let me say that again, I'm being charged for Bitmains defective replacement part being shipped to me.

What country are you from that they are charging you for shipping?

I'm from the US in Atlanta . After working the phones for an hour I convinced UPS to eat the cost . Just sucks because I know some people will just pay the bill …

Care to share what you say or how you convinced them to pay for it or go after Bitmain for the cost? Since it's Bitmain's fault and we are just victims...

Basically it is as I have stated in past posts . There is a customs rule, "can't remember the number of the rule" , but it states that there is no fees on things that are marked "warranty parts".. In all due fairness it is more of a UPS error then Bitmain, but it just adds to the hassle I've delt with in regards to all my S4 units … I wanted to buy another one but at this point I'm just to beat down by the whole process… and cost

58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I warned you on: November 03, 2014, 06:55:14 PM
probably exchanges are trading fake bitcoins.
by fake I mean they know that there always will be some stash of coins which will not be withdrawn all at once.
So if they know that they got X ammount of bitcoins which will always be there, they can manipulate the price with it.
I wonder what would happen to the exchanges if all coin holders would cash out all of their holdings in the same time.

market cap would go to zero

Thank you for waiting the compensation and replacement parts related to the problematic PSUs.
We placed the priority in replacing all the PSU and gathering the refund information to include the Bitcoin Address.
Now the replacement PSU are almost processed and we will be focusing on issuing out the compensation to the effected customers.
We prioritized the RMA Process as #1 Priority, so the S4 will be mining while we process the compensation.  We expect to start sending out the compensation early next week.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

THANK YOU for the update … All I ever wanted was to know what to expect …. Setting out a time line like this and communication is the KEY to doing good business .
60  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cointerra AIRE Miner 16nm PreOrder on: October 28, 2014, 05:11:06 PM
.....
We will see 16nm and 14nm chips in 2015! Not later.

16nm propably. 14nm propably not. Only Intel and Samsung are ready with 14nm. But they wil not produce for small asic company (extremly high costs). TSMC is ready with 16nm but they are so busy with 20nm Apple CPUs that they will start mass production on 16nm in Q2'15.

if that were the case, hobby miner might not see anything real until 2016 ?
