41  Other / Meta / Re: Report "ad-sponsored rubbish posts" on: September 30, 2014, 12:17:30 PM
I honestly think it's now time to ban signature campaigns from being advertised on the forum and ban threads openly buying/selling accounts on the forum.

The quality of the content posted on the forum has gone downhill so much and its directly attributed to these two activities,

I know there is no way to stop it and it's impossible to enforce a rule banning such activities as they will still happen off the forum in private, but at least it will mitigate it and increase the signal-to-noise ratio on the forum somewhat, because right now it seems the majority of posters do not even read the threads they are replying to.

I'd also recommend making the signature links nofollow to reduce the SEO juice signature campaigners get, which would also help. I don't see any reason why links posted in signatures should get SEO juice.

43  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: September 30, 2014, 11:17:54 AM
If Im a  possible zolace then so is KHW who was against you as well? right?  This is a big community to start finger pointing the fact is you need hard core proof to make all these accusations.    I understand you wanna ruin this guy but damn you have to blame others as well?

I never made any accusations, care to quote where I did? I just pointed out those accounts all have similar posting times, writing style and the same timezone set in the profile. Do you agree?

KWH does not have a similar writing style, he has a different timezone set and posts at different times, but I'm sure there are probably other accounts here who fit it that are not sockpuppets. All I'm saying is there are similarities and it wouldn't surprise me if they were sockpuppets given each account is in some way connected to this accusation.

I honestly don't want to ruin anyone, I'm just pointing out what I see, I'll let others be the judge.
44  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Obsessed seeking for rat software on: September 30, 2014, 11:08:09 AM
I am becoming obsessed with my wallet stored on my pc and i want a good open-source rat tool -keylogger remote access to check my pc when i am away! Any suggestion?

Umm.... you need a RAT and keylogger to check your PC? seems legit....

If you have your bitcoin addresses you can check your balance using a reputable block explorer like blockchain.info from any PC.

If you want to remotely access your PC, use SSH, if you must have a GUI use VNC tunneled over SSH.

If you're worried about your Bitcoins being stolen, secure your PC. Keep it fully patched, know what your running on it. There is plenty of advice on this on the internet already.

If you're planning on installing a RAT on someone else's machine, yeah... think again, it's totally not worth it.
45  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: September 30, 2014, 10:45:23 AM
Seems also zolace has several accounts: latinna, umair127 and probably noviapriani. He sent me PM by mistake from umair127 instead of zolace and replied "Never mind ..." in 30 sec from zolace account.

They all fit the same profile too, hmm..... Grin
46  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: September 30, 2014, 10:28:28 AM
That dont prove anything as I checked activity is updating constantly, I even matched up with a few people as well.  Anyway Tim sorry I left u negative but I chat with that user and even bought cards from him and never had issues

Of course on its own it doesn't prove anything, but when the two users are also providing the same bitcoin address and posting in similar types of threads with similar writing style and at similar times and are both in the same timezone it does raise some questions.

I'm not accusing them of being sockpuppets, but I wouldn't be so surprised if they were...
47  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: September 30, 2014, 09:59:58 AM
I've found out something interesting though I haven't looked into it too carefully. Checking both Zolace and latinna's profiles, I noticed both have set the same timezone on their account.

Not only that, there is a somewhat similar posting time activity for both users, see below screenshot, top is zolace and bottom is latinna - a clear peak can be seen around 11:00 to 18:00 UTC for both users. On top of that, the most popular board of both users is the Politics & Society board, with both off-topic and economics being popular too.

Quite a coincidence is it not?  Grin

48  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is possible to validate on a public key on: September 30, 2014, 08:33:49 AM
If you are using Bitcoin Core you can use the validateaddress API call.

No it's a c# project where the user will enter a public key.

Perhaps you are mixed up, a Bitcoin address and a public key are two different things.

A bitcoin address looks like this:
1HZwkjkeaoZfTSaJxDw6aKkxp45agDiEzN

A public key looks like this:
04a34b99f22c790c4e36b2b3c2c35a36db06226e41c692fc82b8b56ac1c540c5bd5b8dec5235a0f a8722476c7709c02559e3aa73aa03918ba2d492eea75abea235

If you want to validate a bitcoin address, you can check the length, check if it begins with a 1 or 3, check if it is valid base58 and check if the checksum is valid. Here is a Ruby script that does all of this which you can use as a reference:

https://gist.github.com/alexandrz/4491729

If you want to check if a public key is valid, you can also check the length and check that it is hex. There is no checksum on ecdsa pubkeys. see post below.
49  Other / Meta / Re: How to remove specific users from my trust list? on: September 30, 2014, 07:32:28 AM
Thanks both! I want level 1 deep for DefaultTrust and others I add 0 level deep. Any idea on how to do it? Smiley

  ~~MZ~~

I don't think it's possible to do that yet.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for a solution to DESTROY altcoin in PUBLIC on: September 30, 2014, 07:30:37 AM
Send it to an address that it would be incredibly unlikely anyone has the private key for.

See the following bitcoin address:
https://blockchain.info/address/1111111111111111111114oLvT2
51  Other / Meta / Re: How to remove specific users from my trust list? on: September 30, 2014, 06:53:30 AM
Set the trust dept to 0, copy in your current trust network (scroll down to see it) and remove those whom you want to. Be sure to remove DefaultTrust.

The only downside to doing this is if someone on your trust list adds someone new to their trustlist they won't be automatically added to yours.
52  Other / Meta / Re: MagicalTux & DefaultTrust [ Why ?] on: September 30, 2014, 06:28:20 AM
Absolutely wrong! Being in DefaultTrust list means you are trustworthy. Only trustworthy users will be in DefaultTrust list. Roll Eyes

  ~~MZ~~

Nope thats just not how the trust system is designed I am afraid. The people on the trust list are "trust moderators", not trustworthy users. People are supposed to be put on DefaultTrust because the ratings they leave others are believed to be accurate, not because they are trustworthy.

yeah, Theymos, would you mind telling us the reason Tradefortress was on the default trust list? My speculation was that he had "disclosed security flaws in a responsible manner" as your feedback for him said, but was that the reason or was there another reason?

No. The damage someone in DefaultTrust can do is very limited, so a lot of trust isn't required. I've actually long been suspicious of TradeFortress because he was holding too much BTC, CoinLenders looked like a HYIP, and I've heard some suspicious rumors about him. But I thought that he was very unlikely to go totally crazy with trust. (And he didn't.)

He was on DefaultTrust because his trust list was good. There were only a few problems that ever resulted from his list, but he brought many good people into the trust network. He also seemed to understand the trust system more than anyone else, and he paid the most attention to trust activity across the trust system.
53  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Running Armory from USB 3.0 Hard Drive on: September 30, 2014, 06:15:21 AM
IIRC while your hard drive IO speed is a factor, the main bottleneck when syncing the blockchain is your CPU. I don't think an external HDD will impact initial sync time too much. Armory sync isn't too bad now that it uses the blockchain torrent.

To get some information from bitcoind (such as the synchronized block height) try running bitcoin-cli getinfo from a terminal.

55  Economy / Scam Accusations / LaxoTrade appear to be now spamming the blockchain with obscene messages on: September 30, 2014, 05:39:31 AM
So I'm sure most of have heard of these guys, they've been spamming the blcokchain advertising their website for the past while, but now it appears they are sending obscene messages too.

I received this transaction a few days ago:
http://blockchain.info/tx/ced51dc122eeca983c9bb76b53d74c8e45e12f66f1c07c24022cc29b78603ef7

As you can see the public note reads "Child Porn is awesome!"

I was curious to see if I could find out who sent it, so I did some sleuthing and it led me to this interesting address:

http://blockchain.info/address/19eHzRD6UYv8igtP9KsjGPn9piyEAG7QX9

As you can see, this address received 0.0495BTC from the LaxoTrade spamming address. It is much larger than the other spam transactions and unlike the others it only has 2 output addresses. This transaction was obviously not a spam one due to the large amount sent and I believe it is likely a payment to themselves.

That address sends some BTC to:
http://blockchain.info/address/1C3brKxGwSZ1vYLt1NZZr6mxjmcm3HXGqW

Then it goes to:
http://blockchain.info/address/14HShGcunv3xrZ1ku66DekhokY4b9vWetz

And finally to the address sending the obscene spam transactions:
http://blockchain.info/address/1CPxxxZkKeBYDgvX7pmiUZnMRxqELFV7Yb

So this address sending out obscene messages just so happens to be 4 hops from LaxoTrade (and 3 hops from an address likely controlled by them).

Given their reputation as a blockchain spammer I'm going out on a limb here and am going to accuse them of sending out these obscene messages. Lets hope they don't start doing this on a large scale like their last spamming attempt.
56  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin prices @ $377 lowest seen so far !!! on: September 30, 2014, 05:04:03 AM
The current situation reminds me SO MUCH of the fall from $30 to $3 in 2011... it's almost like history is repeating itself.
57  Other / Meta / Re: MagicalTux & DefaultTrust [ Why ?] on: September 30, 2014, 05:02:19 AM
It doesn't really matter if there is a scammer in the DefaultTrust list. It only matters if they leave feedback that someone disputes.

Being in the DefaultTrust list only means you leave accurate feedback, not that you are trustworthy.

60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there an ACTUAL working bitcoin app? on: September 24, 2014, 11:05:32 PM
stupidity will defeat bitcoin

Yup, the stupidity of the devs.. who'll eventually stop xp support Wink

This is somewhat offtopic, but anyway, hackers have been reverse engineering new security updates for latest versions of Windows to try and find security holes in Windows XP because Microsoft no longer releases security updates for XP (except in one recent case).

There have been some severe security issues patched recently (such as the IE one: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/usanow/2014/05/01/microsoft-issues-internet-explorer-security-fix/8562737/ ) and all Windows XP users could be easily attacked using these security flaws.

You really should NOT be using XP or you'll be easy pickings for hackers.

Anyway, Bitcoin Core fully supports XP. I would try to help you with whatever issue you're having but I think it'd be a waste of my time.
