Bitminter now has version-rolling ASICBoost support on all mining servers.

This means your DragonMint miners, and other future ASICBoost miners, will run full speed on Bitminter.

A big thanks to philipma1957 for helping with testing - it is much appreciated!

I believe we are the fourth pool to add this. It is still not supported by most pools.

Yes, there was just some BCH added to your account - nothing removed. As usual you can see all changes on your account under "my account" -> "transaction history" in the website menu.

As I mentioned in the original post, I used the wrong account. However, I can't figure out how to "reset" the login to use a different account.
There is no "logout" button, and every time I use the "login" button it assumes im using the "current account" rather than prompting me for a different account.
Thus, im stuck, unable to switch accounts.

Google is "helping" you. Smiley Go to google.com and log out from there, then go back to bitminter.com and try again. This time Google will ask you which Google account to use, because you logged out of Google.

Help with login...
I used the wrong google account to login, it sais im a new uset, but I cant find any way to logout so it will re-prompt for my correct account.
Every time I hit the login button, it takes me to the new user page. I need to find some way to get it to prompt me again for my account so I Can enter the correct one.
Help?

You're either logging in with the wrong Google account or you didn't log in for several years and missed Google's transition from OpenID 2.0 to OpenID Connect.

Please use the contact form on the website to ask for help with this and we'll figure it out.

OpenID Failure: 0x704: I/O transport error: Connect to openid.aol.com:80 timed out

huh??

njmnokc s/n on pool

Looks like a repeat of a couple weeks back. AOL's OpenID server having intermittent issues.

If you would like a different type of login added to your account, contact support@bitminter.com

BCH (bitcoin cash) has been credited to accounts equal to their balance of BTC at the time of the fork (2017.08.01)

You can cash out your BCH using "my account" -> "send coins" in the website menu. First click "BCH" on that page. You will need to use a CashAddr style address. If your BCH wallet does not support CashAddr then you can use the address converter at https://cashaddr.bitcoincash.org/ - but note: DO NOT put a bitcoin address into this calculator. It is for BCH addresses from BCH wallets that do not support the new CashAddr addresses yet.

What is bitcoin cash?

Bitcoin cash (BCH) is a fork of Bitcoin (BTC). You can read more about it at https://bitcoincash.org/
It shares a transaction history with bitcoin up to the time of the fork. If a wallet had a bitcoin balance at the time of the fork then it is possible to unlock the same amount on the bitcoin cash blockchain. For every BTC prior to the fork there now exists a BCH.

Does this mean Bitminter will support all other forks?

No. Cash out your BTC to a wallet where you control the private keys, then you can take part in the forks you want. Always cash out. Take control of your coins.

Are we mining BCH now?

No. We are currently only mining BTC, plus NMC through merged mining with BTC.

It says my address is not a valid BCH address?

If you are trying to send BCH to a BTC wallet, stop immediately and get a BCH wallet you can send the coins to.

If you are using a BCH wallet that only supports legacy addresses, use the converter at https://cashaddr.bitcoincash.org/ to get a CashAddr type address.

If you are using a multi-currency wallet or online service that supports multiple currencies, make sure you are sending to a BCH address. Use the converter if necessary, but double check that you have picked a BCH address, not a BTC address.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
How is the notification issue coming? Any chance we may see that soon? I noticed there is already an "email" setting under our account overview and figured it could be as simple as the option being a toggle for "Receive notifications on block". Just checking in and looking forward to the progress!

I'm not working on more notifications yet.

But what I'd like to do is make a separate page with email preferences where you can choose what types of email you want to receive, and then add several new types of notifications.

One issue with sending more emails is that users of Microsoft email services (msn.com, outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com) frequently report them as spam. They type in their email address when they create their account. Then they receive the email confirmation message and immeditaly report it as spam. This has gotten Bitminter banned from delivering email to these Microsoft services several times already.

Maybe all the toggles can default to off for Microsoft users. Tongue

Bitminter now supports Bech32 addresses. So you can cash out to native segwit addresses - those are the addresses starting with "bc1" as specified by BIP-173.

Note that many services don't support Bech32 yet. It's especially annoying that some block explorers don't appear to be able to look them up yet. But I'm sure this will change soon.

If you are using Bitcoin Core then you need to upgrade to version 0.16.0 to get Bech32 support.

is there a way to get gridseed gc3355 to work with bitminter

It's not supported by Bitminter client. But you can use it at the Bitminter mining pool the same way you use it at any other pool. Probably with cgminer or bfgminer?

Hey Doc!

I just noticed that the Shifts page is reflecting the last shift that fell off is a 0 pay when we know that a block was discovered during the shift. Just wanted to bring it to your attention in case for whatever reason the shifts page is getting a little more screwy on you than the usual.

Damnit! I think I broke it. I'll have another look at it.

Thanks for letting me know Smiley

Yeah, I should probably add notifications by email. Currently there is the Yo thing, and also notifications in the chat.

Thanks Dr. Haribo for clearing up my understanding of how the fees work, it makes a lot more sense to me now. To further display my ignorance, how will it work for fees when we reach the end state of all the coins being found? I assume the idea would be for bitcoin to remain a viable currency at that point? At least that's what the founder must have had in mind. Given that, was the idea that everyone would just provide hashpower for free in order to participate in the community of bitcoin when there were no more coins to be mined? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

Yeah, at that point you mine for fees.

Today you earn new coins + transaction fees. Once all coins have been created, the "new coins" will be zero. So transaction fees are then 100% of your earnings from mining.

I find myself almost daily screaming "Peggy, you stupid, lazy &!+¢#, find me some money!!!"

Some miners used to wear lucky underwear. Perhaps what you are doing will work better to improve our luck. Smiley
54  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: March 07, 2018, 09:09:20 AM
I guess I misunderstood too... So you're saying we aren't accumulating transaction fees since December.  The only transaction fees that are paid out are those that are part of the block that is found by us.   Is that right?

Yes, the only way to get any income with mining is to find/create new blocks. The income from mining a block is the combination of new coins that are created with the block, and the transaction fees of all the transactions in the block.

When you create a new transaction because you want to pay someone, it just floats around on the bitcoin peer-to-peer network. It is not part of the permanent ledger that is the blockchain. To anyone observing the transaction it is merely an intention to pay, which may take place in the future. Another transaction sending the same coins somewhere else might become part of the blockchain instead. This transaction is considered unconfirmed. You might trust it to pay a cup of coffee, but not a car (certainly not a Lambo).

So you offer a transaction fee on your transaction, to incentivize miners to include it in a block. The miners mine a block with your transaction, they get paid and now your transaction is in a block. Your transaction is in the block at the top of the chain. It has 1 confirmation, which is the block it is in. It's somewhat more trustworthy. But what if there is a blockchain fork and the other side of the fork becomes the longest chain? Then this transaction may yet disappear. This becomes less likely as more blocks are added on top of the block with the transaction. Once there are 5 additional blocks the transaction is said to have 6 confirmations. This is often considered to be the point where you can assume it is a permanent part of the blockchain. The recipient can trust that the coins you sent them are now theirs. This is what you paid the miners for.

Is there some explanation other than a long run of bad luck for why this is taking so long? Has difficulty jumped that much higher? Other variables?

Currently the difficulty is almost 3.3 trillion (called billion in continental europe). This means it takes a tremendous amount of work to find a block. On average it takes 3.3 trillion (mining pool proofs of) work. If the difficulty goes up the average time to find a block goes up. If our hashpower goes up the average time to find a block goes down.

Compared to 3 months back, the difficulty is now 2.5x what it was. Our hashpower is 3.5x what it was. So our average time to find a block has gone down. Further increasing the hashpower will further reduce the time to find blocks. It makes all rounds (time between blocks) go by faster, but most importantly of course the long and unlucky ones.

Our amount of work since the last block is over 10.6 trillion. That's more than 3x the difficulty and is certainly bad luck. This is fairly rare.

The worst block we've had took an amount of work that was 11x the difficulty. This is the awful block of which we do not speak. Except I just did. Thankfully something like that is extremely rare.

This long round is getting rather annoying and several people have been trying to end it by renting extra hashpower, but had problems getting that to work.

Mining servers have been updated today to make rentals run more smoothly on Bitminter:
  • Default worker difficulty is now 4096
  • Auto detect Nicehash worker and use minimum difficulty 1 million
  • Minor tweaks to difficulty auto adjustment algorithm
56  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: March 06, 2018, 10:51:49 PM
Yeah, those transaction fees, we get them when we mine a block. There's noone on the web collecting them. And noone is earning them in between blocks. When we create a block we put transactions in the block. We earn the new coins created in the block, plus the transaction fees for the transactions we put in the block.

There is a new shift as I see. Is that means if a block found I will receive nothing for mining for a month (I stopped my S7 about a week ago) ?

It depends how the shifts look when the block is found. If we find a block now and you have work in 9 shifts then you get paid for those.
58  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: February 21, 2018, 09:31:59 AM
Your work gets registered in shifts. When someone mining in the pool finds a block you get paid. Your share of the coins from the block depends on your share of the work done in the last 10 completed shifts. If you stopped mining then after a while there will be new shifts where you have done no work.
59  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: February 21, 2018, 09:26:18 AM
Doc did we ban rental hash? I haven't been able to get any rentals to connect for about a day now. Just checking to see if there was a change.

No. Maybe it's complaining about low difficulty? Try setting the minimum difficulty on the worker you are using for rentals to 1048576. On the workers page, click the gear icon to access these settings.

Be nice to be able to see this info. I mean like the proofs of work of  our own plus other users. So we could research  it. With best share for curent round and past rounds.

You can see the total amount of work in the live stats. The best share of past rounds is always the block we found. We don't record a "best share so far" for the current round though.
