41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should there be a way to register your wallet with the government? on: May 17, 2024, 09:57:11 PM
Of course there are many others, such as multi-sig and conditional payments. those are just a few of the advantages as I see them.  The government keeps banging on about money laundering and crime, but I don't believe those are the issues. The real issue seems to be the fact that Bitcoin frees people from the fiat crime(s).
The sole purpose of the introduction of censorships by the governments isn't even about curbing money laundering cases.. that's obviously the usual word to ease the "pressure" on the citizens. Bitcoin has issued a priceless freedom to a vast percentage of people around the globe, which sets a pathmark for the government to not monitor or have full control over the country's economy.
They don't wanna have people own billions of dollars somewhere out of their reach and control. I seen over the Internet that most influential attorneys are also pushing hard to have the system under their supervision.
That isn't true. If you run a full node, and just notify the government of your addresses, then they have no control over them, they can only watch your activities. If you are reporting these for tax purposes anyway, I don't understand the objections.
Why do you think they won't incite their taxation policies as long as it's under their watch? Yes? Why should the government request that every user pays their task upon every transaction made outside their infrastructure?
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you start investing in bitcoin because of some celebrity ? on: May 17, 2024, 09:44:08 PM
"Should I invest in something because of a celebrity told me so or should I do my own research?!"

Why is this even a question? Lol.
You need to understand how sickening it is to think through people's mind... Cus how TF would you rather believe a celebrity on a paid ad rather than your own self? These people sometimes don't even consider bearing any responsibilities for whatever loses you get for joining the trend ..

I knew Bitcoin even before I got registered in here. But - yunno this feeling of having a very little knowledge about something without wanting to know more? That's it! I started my crypto journey after enough tutoring in here.
43  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: May 17, 2024, 09:27:04 PM
What if something happen to Theymos today or anytime. Bitcointalk gone? I can not remember the role Cyrus have. Do we have a setup which allow someone else to take control of the domain and the database in case anything happen to Theymos [Not just legal things but things related to health]?
"For everything that breaths - there's a limit, might and most importantly, an end". What's saddens me more is how ignorant we are about the fear of transition(maybe getting involved in a ghastly accident or something). In any case, we aren't planning our funerals already when we're still alive so I'd say - for now, I think everything is under control.

If the forum's domain is accessible by Cyrus himself, then I think it's way better. We just gotta need someone to stand in should there be a need.

Let's hope many of us will be able to watch the mining of 21st millionth bitcoin.
I'm afraid, that's not gonna ever happen. Always remember that death remains inevitable!
I am sure, Google have a setup so that whoever is in control of the domain have any situation that he is no more, we will not see Google lost Google.com. The same for Facebook, x and many others.
That's more like COCA -COLA and it's recipe. I learnt only two People have direct access to it and they can't fly in the same aircraft?
44  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: End Goal or Keep HODLing? on: May 16, 2024, 09:59:35 PM
Also, I have the belief that Bitcoin will keep breaking new ATH forever. Should I leave my Bitcoin forever without selling it or set a goal that I have in mind and when it reaches that goal I sell and take my profits?
it's strictly based on individual differences dude... I can't really say when you have to sell your Bitcoins, but I can advice on when to buy.
These are my reasons; everyone passes through a different phase of life and, sometimes, you could need to rejuvenate your career, personal life, or some other exegencies of life.
At that point, do you have any reason to not sell some part of your HODLing to solve your problems? No!

After 10 or 20 years, if you have a stable job and life, you will rarely try to sell your Bitcoin.
I'll sell them if it ever gets to that point from now. The sole aim is getting a better life alongside with every other benefits.
I have learnt so much with the little time I've spent in here and, I think that's a benefit that comes with HODLing.

Edit;
I also don't think any sane person would sell their saved bitcoins at this time when everyone is seeing how high the price of bitcoin is now and how much higher it can go. I regret that six months ago I sold some of my bitcoins, now I wish I hadn't sold them.
You didn't sell them for some random reasons, did you? There are some situations in real life that you can't help...
45  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When investing in Bitcoin: what to consider? on: May 16, 2024, 09:41:02 PM
Critics will say bitcoin is too volatile and also bitcoin mining is demanding for too much electricity. No one can say bitcoin is not a currency because bitcoin is money and what represents it as money is its currency part.
Bitcoin's volatility is the whole essence of the introduction of monetary decentralization. It's also majorly the reasons why it's regarded as a digital currency that appreciates with time.
As for Bitcoin mining, I don't think critics are actually the main people behind the escalation; bitcoin hasn't been a secret right from time being, so I guess alot of people have been looking through to either make a rough estimation on how profitable it is to mine, or basically, the miners themselves put everyone on the know.

About the illegal use of bitcoin, fiat are used more for illegal dealing.
What leaves me speechless is how the governments are all out for Bitcoin  Smiley
46  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin proven many times holders won't regret on: May 15, 2024, 09:50:40 PM
Bitcoin have the confidence of making a profit the only thing that the person is patient
Patience! That's a key virtue that keeps alot of people thriving through the hazzles and everything. I've seen so many instances where several self-acclaimed crypto enthusiasts turn their backs on Bitcoin; since most of them are influencers and celebrities, they tend to wheel away the eagerness of new comers... That's not much of a problem per se

We start on the basis of truth and perhaps that is difficult to find if one is not directly involved in it. Bitcoin has not only proven to provide a foundation for people to invest, but Bitcoin has also opened people's eyes about achieving financial freedom.
Bitcoin has made every bank slave to analyze the cost of paying taxes for every monetary operation and devaluation of saving up in the bank. AFAIK, the United State dollars have suffered an inconsiderable fall between the last 10 years -- The volatility in Bitcoin has made its consistency over these said years. How about that?
47  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a newbie make investment before learning? on: May 15, 2024, 09:40:09 PM
As on my own opinion alot of newbies have fallen in to hand of scammers because of their insufficient knowledge about Bitcoin so therefore it take a high risk to make an investment when you yet to understand the Bitcoin investment to avoid been scammed of your hard earnings
Take your time learn and implement before you inter market or make any investment as a newbie
Your subject-topic almost sounded like a question, until I read the whole thread.
Op, I normally do advice that people learn about Bitcoin before investing; There could be no harm in investing without having a pre-knowledge, but you'd only have yourself to blame should anything happen as a result of your ignorance.
Does it cost you alot to learn about something you wanna invest in? No! Are you just being too lazy or more interested in the outcome, without giving a Fk to how that happens? Yes!

To be an investor in Bitcoin, you do not need to know higher mathematics. Learn to use a wallet. The Electrum wallet is very convenient for beginners.
Electrum was a great deal when I started using wallets  Smiley
TW was all I knew and, that's way simpler!
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I returned my father's property to my father through Bitcoin investment. on: May 15, 2024, 09:29:23 PM
A friend of mine was involved in bitcoin and he knew enough about my family to tell me friend if you invest in bitcoin you can help your father. Sister's wedding cost father about 2000 thousand dollars and I invested the remaining two thousand dollars with my father's permission in September 2023. But really my luck is very good I bought bitcoin when it was 30K. Then when the bitcoin market reaches 70K I sell the bitcoins. But today I am so happy that I can give back the two ponds from which we earn our living to my father only for bitcoins.  Bitcoin really changes people's fortunes it happened with my life.
Mhan, this is the creepiest shit I've ever read in here. WTF do you mean your dad tendered his pond?
I mean, you can always narrate your stories without exaggerating anything about it... Right now, it sounds like you just wanted to stick some shit to the wall and see if it cuts. Well, it's sad that you didn't receive a single merit for that junk.

Bitcoin got you some returns for HODLing in the long term? Fine!! That's enough for anyone to understand. You see, you only succeeded in making people doubt everything you wrote.
PS: I know it's difficult to construct a good post, but always be YOURSELF!
49  Other / Meta / Re: What functions do "Staff" forum members carry out? on: May 15, 2024, 09:09:25 PM
What is the specific difference between "Staff" and "Moderator"?

I am fairly certain I understand the tasks carried out by moderators (and global moderators) but I do not know what staff do and what their functions with the forum actually are. If you know, let us all know.
I think every user accounts that are assigned a designated job in here are collectively Called "staff members". Something brings in the differential -- which is the what job and board they're assigned for.

Administrators are predominantly the head; they could addup, develop or remove whatever function that seems disturbing.
The global moderators are just the same as MODERATORS themselves, except they've got vast control over different boards.
The moderators are designated just for specific boards as well as the staffs. (basically the local boards)

Besides staff and global moderators, there are terms called Cryptios and Mod-privileged
That's also a good point. I almost forgot about them since I barely see the term cryptios
50  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing on: May 14, 2024, 09:58:51 PM
Did you think that Trump will not win the primaries flawlessly? He would have won becuase he is very influential and he was the former United States president. The only obstacle he has in the presidential election is his rival Biden which is the present US president.
You wanna vouch for a political aspirant that barely has a choice of word? that defamed Bitcoin few years ago - not because he didn't have enough conviction - but because the legislative sector in the US government has a greater influence on his decisions as the president and he fell for it? I wouldn't blame him too much though but it looks to me like he's just out to have some votes from some random bitcoiners.

I just think it's kind of funny when he says "I can live with it".
he's obviously trying to convince people to not worry much about the severe intrusions by the current government, that that's not gonna be the care in his?
Quote
I'm not sure his "pro" bitcoin stance will really make much of a difference in it's price.
Nobody controls decentralization.
Nothing new to see here. Trump was a Bitcoin enthusiast in 2016, then he became president and changed his stance to be against Bitcoin (in order to justify a maximalist defensive position of dollar currency). Now that he is looking for the presidency spot once again he adopts the previous stance of endorsing Bitcoin more or less?

Sorry, but if you get fascinated and excited for this kind of news you must be really naive. Trump wants the public to see him as the freedom anti-system warrior, and Bitcoin fits the role he is trying to interpret (for now). It's all about marketing, propaganda and manipulation.
Do y'all believe it now? [I just read through and I stumbled on this]. Bitcoin is slowly becoming a political factor!
51  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin a scam on: May 14, 2024, 09:35:28 PM
It's  so funny  that at this stage and century , some people still believe that Bitcoin  is a scam after it has proven itself  over and over  which has led to it's massive adoption.
At this point, I don't even need to convince anyone - especially if indulging in crypto is against their will. I seen alot of vandalism and derailing videos about Bitcoin; truth is that the media carries both exaggerated and alleged informations. Anyone that believes Bitcoin to be a scam is nostalgic!
Quote
If anyone still thinks Bitcoin  is a scam and depending only on fiat currencies then he or she is a slave to fiat system and believe  it or not
We've all been slaves for as long as the world never knew what bitcoin was, not until SATOSHI came forth with its white paper. People have been hypnotized into paying unnecessary taxes/levies and at some point, with no other options to choose from, that has slowly become the usual thing.
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto as job salary - Yay or Nay? on: May 14, 2024, 08:47:29 PM
Let's say you have a job that gives you the option to have your salary paid in BTC, ETC, or any other cryptocurrency, would you prefer that or would you rather still be paid in fiat? If you'd prefer crypto payment, which currency would you choose and why?
It solely depends on how I'd wanna utilize my salary and when it normally comes... If it's a monthly payroll, and I prolly have something else that fetches enough, I'd choose to HODL the Golden coin!
At that, I'm not expecting to break the bank anytime soon, but like i said earlier, it depends on the period though.

Quote
This would be your hard-earned money that can either grow on its own or shrink in value within a small time.
Are you tryna convince us not to HODL Bitcoin already? Lol.. My hard earned money has dwindled in way too many unprofitable ways than that. I won't panic one bit should that ever happen again  Smiley
One can earn in fiat but keeping or saving your money in the bank will be a costly mistake.
You can only complain of the effects of inflation if you already have enough to spare. For me, it's about how extravagant one can be.
53  Other / Meta / Re: Some other links can also be word filtered? on: May 14, 2024, 08:22:10 PM
This users have registered more than 10 accounts and using each to post this malware link.
You can see this part in the malware link all the time to download the file: 1PHWncar2KSAXNMqeHSeH2f2seFR6pQ9B

Why is it not filtered and removed?
What troubles my soul is how exposed BTT has been, thereby attracting both the geeks and scam-oriented projects. It becomes even more pathetic that alot of malicious/misleading links are reported, which proves their relentlessness and again, how the "good" is being overwhelmed by the "bad"

The recent attacks/censorships on privacy has done more harm to the crypto communities than good to the government. It has only made a hacker's job more of a certainty than probability.
If newbies want to make their link clickable, they need to buy copper membership.
Huh? That's easy for anyone to bypass.
54  Other / Meta / Re: Warning against consecutive posts (SMF patch) on: May 14, 2024, 07:50:14 PM
Good idea but by the way you could make a patch for the moderators to explain why they don't act on reports of rule 32 violations.
Enhh... Moderators are humans just like everyone else. In that case, they may choose to ignore a report based on what, where and for what purpose the reported post serves.

Gloves, as always has been very relentless on creating 'em patches; There's a particular sense of revival that's derived from the fact that we've got innovative heads in here still.

I wanna say this; Are the moderators going to adopt stricter measures for junk posts that violates the rule 32 now? Atleast there's been something more visible to remind anyone if they ever forget.
55  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Chased loss, got it back and lost everything. on: May 12, 2024, 09:57:28 PM
Reading this guy confession https://www.gamblingtherapy.org/forum/topic/compulsive-gambler-chased-loss-got-it-back-then-lost-everything-again/ sometimes remind me of myself when I’m still not that fully taking control my gambling habits. I’m sure other players can relate to the part that you still keep playing after recovering your losses for a hope to win a little bit before you leave.
Sometimes, most gamblers don't even keep tracks of their gambling records; Yes! That could help you understand if you're making profit or not. Secondly, it could also help control your habits/ how much/ how often you increase your bankroll.

The thing is; For the fact that your mind is already programmed to win more money if your prediction cuts, and that your selections has either fetched you something good before, you're enticed to keep wagering as long as you have funds on you. It doesn't cut? No worries! Just keep wagering, it definitely will [That's how manipulative your mind can be]
56  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between females and males, who are more resistant to gambling losses?  on: May 12, 2024, 09:51:42 PM
I don't wanna bring any sort of gender inequality into this case. Why? It has nothing to do with it; I had different women sneaking out to make heavy stakes on whatever they lay their hands on - it could be some random numbers they were given on thier way home from their respective jobs etc... They just don't show up like the way some men would!

I think it makes much sense to say that online casinos were created for people of this caliber. Mind you, I'm not tryna say that women gamble more but, whatever is said in here is just mere assumptions. You'll never know!
57  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Losing all your fortune with just 3 years on: May 12, 2024, 09:39:54 PM
The subject is Terrance Watanabe which is a successful businessman who has a huge business and money that becomes addicted on gambling. He lose a total of 127M which is all his fortune that he earn from his business. Imagine all your hardworking was turn out to nothing after a few years of gambling addiction.
That's the most gruesome thing I've ever heard in my life.. HTF was anything able to convince him to start gambling? He has a good business that was already producing him so much that he had such a good savings..

Y'all need to watch your habits, cause they can be detrimental atimes. Dude never knew it'd get to an extent he'll be left with no penny! So basically, he enriched the casinos all in a bid to double his earnings. What a way to wax cold easily!
Quote
He manage to wager a whooping 825M $ in just a single year when he lose that 127M.
How do you mean? I didn't get this part. Had he been winning althrough till it got to some point - which he began losing?
58  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Double your money and quite on: May 12, 2024, 09:11:27 PM
If I am unlucky, once I lose $100, I will leave without adding a penny. What is interesting here is that even if I win, I stop and do not deviate from the scope of the plan. In such situations, especially when winning, the gambler may become greedy, and this may change the course of the game.
That strategy isn't anything new to a gambler that knows how he goes about his usual predictions... Infact, I won't even assume that to be a strategy; IMO, it's just you being careful not to lose too much/chase your losses.

Secondly, do you think you can easily get pass the normal feeling of wanting to get more instead of just closing with the little you've gotten already? Greed?  especially when you've seen possibilities of that happening in the next round?
Do you know we've got a thousand and one gamblers that have only deposited and wagered, but haven't withdrawn anything before? Why? Being too meticulous becomes yet another problem!
59  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Understanding the Impact of Social Media in Gambling. on: May 11, 2024, 09:58:44 PM
A lot of social media influencers especially vloggers and YouTubers are promoting gambling usually at the end of their vlogs or videos.
I could see a huge contribution and spread of information that they made especially during this time where the majority are using smartphones already.
Retain any information you get from the social media at your own detriment .... Does any of those promotions go for free?? These people are being paid to say whatever they have to say to you... Mostimes, I see them making another post to exonerate themselves should anything happen later on.
NGA win,  this and that flooding the Internet; the most exciting thing to know is that people still get into the comment sections to ask questions on how they could register and try their luck! Isn't that mind-blowing already? Lol ....
60  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are You Using A Journal Spreadsheets Will Pave The Way For Addiction To Gambling on: May 11, 2024, 09:51:47 PM
The last thing I'd do is creating a pattern or formula for gambling... WTH does that? Don't y'all save up some money just Incase any exegencies comes forth?.  Well, the stories I've heard so far won't cease anytime soon

The moment you begin to adopt this step, soon enough, it'll become a lifestyle - that means, you an addict already! The body stimulates the mind in most actions; like getting aquatinted with a certain habit overtime... I'd guess that's the last thing you'd ever want.
Y'all, if you don't wanna regret ever knowing how to gamble, stay away from this thread.
