41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Xtrabytes a scam? on: January 26, 2018, 04:25:23 PM
I do in fact remember Xtrabytes being shilled all over several internet boards a couple of months ago. I haven't heard of it ever again after the dump. Looks like the usual pump and dump cycle. It's difficult to estimate if everyone pumping an altcoin is a paid shill or not. I think shilling happens organically when critical mass is hit. We get people convincing other people to buy, then these people, without being paid and as vested speculators, tell other people to buy, this creates the classic bubble scenario with the consequent dump. Paid shills may be at the initial stages to "get the ball rolling" but the rest is just organic internet speculation. Kids these days are becoming addicted to altcoin gambling. But hey, if you can extract some value from them, no hater here.
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any exchange with decent volume and no verification needs? on: January 26, 2018, 03:37:13 PM
Binance dont need id verification for you to be able to withdraw funds you only need to activate 2 factor authentication. binance also have huge trading volume because other exchanges stop accepting new users that is why people use alternative exchanges like binance. I personally use it because they have mobile app so whenever im going out of town i will still be able to monitor my trades.

But are you forced to deliver a phone number or can you bypass the 2factor authentication? I would rather not have to enter a phone number since that is anti privacy and i don't really need 2 factor authentication, not to mention the whole thing is just retarded and exploitable, anyone that isn't stupid doesn't need anything else but an email a password and a recovery email in case you lose the used email.
43  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 02:56:53 PM
So basically ,you're just making sure that members with low ranks keep their low ranks so you don't get less stakes during bounty campaigns ?

It's also good for those who wanna sell accounts ,rights ?

If what you want is better posts ,just get rid of gimmick accounts ,delete useless posts...get more mods .

 Roll Eyes

I haven't read the whole thread but I'm pretty sure I'm saying what everybody here thinks but is afraid to say .

It's a lost battle, no matter how much mods you hire, you can't keep up with the spam. A mod will clearly not check every thread post by post, It's also worth mentioning that users don't even do their part for reporting spam. This has nothing to do with less stakes, I'm pretty sure theymos never participated in these bounty campaigns. The value of accounts may increase but spammers gonna spam and will eventually get banned, as for those who are high quality posts then there is no need to buy an account in the first place, right?

Just because a battle seems lost doesn't mean you should stop fighting. By your logic, let's just stop banning spammers then? because there will be spammers with or without merit system.

And yes, you are right, a lot of people forget to report even the most obvious spammers, but what makes you think people aren't going to forget to give merit points as well?

And as all merit systems, they will be gamed/exploited. Namely, now we'll go from some broken-english shitposter trying to reach Legendary to some broken-english shitposter trying to reach Jr Member (which is achievable with 0 points of merit) in order to put a bunch of Jr Member accounts in signature campaigns, so it may even increase spammers as they will assume it is simply impossible to get higher ranked accounts anymore and instead of focusing in one account, they will focus on bulks of Jr Member accounts. I don't think it solves the basis of the gross volume of spammers which are the lowest value ones. I can tolerate the less obvious spammers, but ultimately the hardcore shitposters will still remain active.

No matter what, you are going to need mods to get care of that, it's a constant work that needs to be done. You can't ruin the forum for everyone else by adding anti-privacy friendly requirements on the registration for instance.

Other potential exploits include "merit sources" giving merit to other accounts which they control (impossible to prove), or someone negging you because you give merit to someone that you like but they hate, or someone thinking you are giving merit to an account you control when you aren't and so on.
44  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 01:53:42 PM
Next step is KYC to open a BitcoinTalk account. haha!

Victor

i lol'd hard Smiley absolutely true and would definitely kill all those newbie farming accounts in an instant Smiley

I believe that there would be better solutions than current Merit system as phone verification upon registration, it would dramatically decrease account farming .
Other possible solution award system for reporting spam and low quality posts.

Hope that Merit system will work.
I will fully support you and I will be only glad if such an opportunity arises. there are also software developers for mining, but not all have 2fa on the mail

There are also ways to farm Merit Points so the Mods/Merit Sources have to be careful, here is just a scenario:
You create 10 accounts, then you start spamming with all 10.
You report all the spams accounts you created from your main account and there you have Merit points for reporting spammer.
There always be someone trying to cheat the system unfortunately, so Admins and Mods have to be aware of this.

create 10 accounts is easy, the mail is specified any, even if it does not exist, the forum skips such registration = the spammer

This is nonsense. This forum is privacy friendly, Tor friendly and so on, theymos doesn't mind people using Tor or the use of other accounts. Bitcoin within itself is privacy friendly and goes against the concept of KYC. What's next, requiring a selfie ID to open an account?

The point of this system is that since you have 0 merit points by default, you cannot get high level accounts to spam 400 times a day on sig campaigns by mere farming. Now let's just see how it works in practice, because these kind of systems are typically gameable/exploitable and potentially unfair, as in such an huge high volume forum, good quality posts may keep getting unnoticed and not valued enough for people to rank in a reasonable time, or people just forgetting the system even exists and not remembering to rate a good post and so on.

I would like to see more mods banning the obvious spammers and third worlders (nothing against third worlders, but just stick to your native language section or learn some basic english) and more efforts put into the account recovery problems to make it faster rather than this tbh, but we'll see how it goes.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any exchange with decent volume and no verification needs? on: January 25, 2018, 01:38:44 PM
Bittrex used to not care if you didn't provide any info, then they started freezing accounts randomly asking for ID scans, phones, addresses... yeah no thanks, im not going to give my dox to pontial scammers, I just want to trade some altcoins (and some people have their money frozen even after entering details)

I was using Poloniex, but similarly, my old account is now considered "Legacy" and is now a matter of time where they will freeze it and not leave me do anything unless I enter all kind of details which I consider unsafe. $2k withdraws a day anonymously used to be enough but now these times are going to be over soon.

What do we have? Livecoin and cryptopia are some exchanges im using to speculate with some altcoins but their volume is really low. Can you register in Binance and trade anonymously? Never tried to get in there.

oh man, I completely understand your concerns but at some point all exchanges will demand verification process. Just to mention that cex.io took all sensitive info from me for the account validation (ID, bills, selfie, etc...) they didn't ask for blood type, luckily. So when someone mentions "decentralization" I can only laugh at it. those from cia and other similar agencies know everything about us dealing with crypto.

Only if you actually send them the info they know. You have your right to refuse to do so and search for another exchange. There will always be people hosting exchanges somewhere where the KYC thing isn't required.

There's people saying here that Binance doesn't require anything and has a 2 BTC withdraw daily which is pretty good. I will give it a try.

You can trade at Binance anonymously. I have tried that and Binance only require a two factor authentication to start trading. But it's only have a 2 Bitcoin withdrawal per days.

I believe in the future many centralized exchanges will required an identity verification because of government getting stricter with crypto currency. I'm sure when that happens, the decentralized exchanges is the only solutions.

So they require a phone number? that's still annoying. I could get around it tho, but is there a way to just enter an email and password and be done with it?

You realize that they don't want to ask for KYC, they are REQUIRED by LAW to ask for it.

Only if hosted in a country which requires KYC.
46  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: One more leg down - price to 8000 - 9000 area? on: January 24, 2018, 04:37:40 PM
Looking at the price action, I don't think Price is going below 9500 any more.  It tested that area many times and bounced right back up. But anything can happen in any market as we are talking about HERD mentality and its hard to predict the mass psychology.
Having said that the best way to go about buying it is averaging down when it gets close to 10k .

I think it's still possible a revisit to $7500 ish happens, but it's also possible that it doesn't happen and $9227 was it... let's see if it doesn't go below the former dip of $10487 otherwise I would start assuming that it will not hold above $10000 for much longer.

If you believe in Bitcoin long term, then the entry point from the current price to $7500 is not that big of a deal compared to the potential prices 5 years from now, so I would go and buy right now with half the money, and save half in case it goes under $10000 and dips harder, then buy with the other half. If it starts mooning for an ATH, then buy the uptrend.

48  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 220: Miocic vs Ngannou Info and Prediction Thread on: January 24, 2018, 04:20:33 PM
@SaShiRaJaVu. There will be no ground game in this fight because both fighters will be busy trying to knock out each other. Also, trying to change level and get a takedown would be taking a big risk for both because it would take a lot of energy considering their size and weight.

In any case, the fight will be over in under 1.5 rounds with Francis Ngannou's hands raised. This is the beginning of a new era in the heavyweight division.
seriously? is that how you predict fights? we all know that Ngannou knockout overeem in their fight however miocic is different from overeem and a different fighter. miocic used different techniques in their last fight. Ngannou didn't realize that miocic used ground and pound to take points from him. the fight was very thrilling because either one of the fighter will be KO'd. that is a heavy weight match; everybody is expecting a KO. though the game is very entertaining, predictions sucks.

Both of their past fights ended in the 1st round. The sportsbook predicted the fight would end in under 1.5 rounds, when the gave their odds of -150 to -200, depending on the site. Everyone else expected it to end early, including the experts.

@thejaytiesto. But there was nothing defensive in Stipe's performance however.

Stipe drained Ngannou's energy after the 3rd round by using his weight mostly as Ngannou tried to get him off his back but he couldn't because his big muscles were completely depleted, then he just ended him with repeated short range punches as the guy couldn't even walk anymore.

Draining energy like that is a defensive approach, just like what casuals call "hugging" in boxing. If he wasn't defensive he would have gone for the KO but he was cautious.
49  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 220: Miocic vs Ngannou Info and Prediction Thread on: January 23, 2018, 04:33:16 PM
Those fans must be the casuals who only want to see big knockouts and action. Stipe's performance was one of the best I have seen in MMA. It was an example of how a martial artist can defeat a stronger opponent by using good technique, skill and fight IQ.

Im a casual UFC fan as in I only watch the big title fights or fights in which I know who the guys are, but I am not a casual boxing fan so I know how the fight game works which means I understand why Miocic didn't want to do anything stupid. It's like when casual boxing fans trashed Mayweather in being "too defensive", as if being too defensive against world class boxers was easy and not an art in itself, and you don't win 50 fights with 0 loses by being "too defensive" only.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: any other forks besides bch giving btc equiv? on: January 23, 2018, 04:26:54 PM
I was quite happy with the bch fork.  Are there other forks that give btc holders a share of the new offerings simply for owning btc?  Smiley

There are tons of forks out there. I have lost track of them, so basically I don't know what the exact amount of total BTC I own now because of all these stupid forks. I cannot be bothered to move my private keys around to access coins which could be scams as in the clients having malware and whatnot.

Bitcoin Gold, Bitcoin Diamond, Super Bitcoin, United Bitcoin, Bitcoin Silver, Bitcoin Platinum... I reckon I must have a decent chunk from the sum of all these coins, eventually I will get around it and access them and sell them all.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO pre-mine allocation on: January 23, 2018, 04:24:11 PM
Of course it is fair because it is theyre project and nobody is in this game to do charity. They should work for some kind of compensation and beying payed in tokens means that it is in theyr interest to add value to that token. In every bussines the managers board are payed better than the rest of people. The most common percentage i saw that the devs keep is something like 15%. And lets not forget that there are some costs in order to run all the operations.
So yeah, i believe that is only fair and the best way that we know that they give theyre best for the project.

While it is fair, it is a very negative trait and will most likely ruin your project. "Pre-mine" is an instant alarms trigger in the cryptoworld when it comes to scam. Ideally, you want to be able to find other ways to get money yourself out of your project. Typically, no one believes in your project or few people do, so just like satoshi, you should mine your own project right at the beginning of the launch, or whatever other method to quickly obtain tokens but do it after it's released for everyone to see. While some pre-mined coins like Darkcoin succeed, it is a very strong burden to carry in the long term. ZCash for example is ruined because of the stupid coin distribution where devs get a % from.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 🔴 🔴 🔴 Attention: KYC for Bounties 🔴 🔴 🔴 on: January 22, 2018, 01:39:14 PM
I just said in another thread how incredibly stupid is to take a selfie while holding your ID card and uploading it into the internet. GPG is a think so we don't need to do that anymore. If ICO's cant take cryptographic proof then they shouldn't be on crypto. If they have legal problems they should host their ICO somewhere where GPG ir bitcoin address verification is enough to get involved in the project. Im not giving my dox to crypto scammers. And stay away from exchanges too. You never know where the database will end up once it gets "hacked".
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Risk in National ID submission for ICO KYC? on: January 22, 2018, 01:19:55 PM
I wouldn't bother. I don't trust any exchange to give them my dox info and I don't trust any ICO to give them my dox info as well. The point of crypto was to avoid having to do ridiculous things like having to take a selfie holding your ID, which can easily end up in the dark web and can easily be used by criminals posing as you. It's completely retarded and im not going to take that risk to invest in some ICO which most likely brings no real value into the field.
54  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 220: Miocic vs Ngannou Info and Prediction Thread on: January 22, 2018, 12:52:25 PM
I never doubted Cormier winning, he is a world class fighter, Olympian with several gold medals... it's another level. There's no point for him to keep fighting, Jon Jones was the only guy that could match him and he is out indefinitely because of the drug tests.

Ngannou has no ground game.

UFC 221 has no big stars that I can identify other than Mark Hunt, will not stay awake to watch it live, as a casual UFC fan I have no idea about these guys so will not bet anything.
55  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 220: Miocic vs Ngannou Info and Prediction Thread on: January 21, 2018, 06:05:23 PM
Anyone interested in the Daniel Cormier vs. Volkan Oezdemir fight? I am going to bet on Volkan and I will skip the Miocic vs Ngannou fight. I have checked a few gambling sites, and many of them have under-rated Volkan. I watched his fights against Misha Cirkunov (UFC Fight Night 109) and Jimi Manuwa (UFC 214). He was completely awesome.

....

Volkan Oezdemir is a sparring partner of Anthony "Rumble" Johnson. Rumble says he hit Volkan with full power punches to the chin and Volkan eats them without issue. Rumble also said Volkan trains very hard. What makes it a tough match up to predict is we've never seen Volkan be tested against a great wrestler like Daniel Cormier.

That said, Volkans hands are deadly weapons and a title fight is 5 rounds. He definitely has a "puncher's chance" or finding DC's chin and finishing the fight.

DC has had issues making weight @ 205. There's a question mark as to whether he solved that problem. We might have seen DC's weight cutting issues in his last fight with Jon Jones. If you watch the fight, it looked like DC was kind of sleep walking in the cage. He wasn't fully there. That weight cutting deficit could be enough to give Vokan what he needs to win the fight.

I might make a small parlay with Volkan and a few favorites. +400 or +500 is a decent play when it hits.

It would suck if DC loses this one. I really want to see Cormier vs Bones 3 eventually... it would be an epic trilogy, and just hope Bones doesn't fuck up again, can you imagine? it would be the greatest scam ever in the UFC, but I would still enjoy it. There's too much money involved for it not to happen, but even if Dana White would allow Bones to fight again a million times after testing positive, at some point age will ruin the match so it has to happen rather soon.

My prediction went on pretty smoothly. Cormier's age and shorter reach was not a problem and he kicked ass easily, made a cool 200 bucks on that bet.

Didn't bet on Miocic's win but could have won too. I gave Ngannou a chance for an early KO but didn't happen.
56  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How safe is bittrex ? on: January 21, 2018, 04:46:25 PM
Hi guys , i have a lot of digibyte on my bittrex account but is it safe ? how big is the chance that i lost it ?

If you have not verified, and have no intention of verifying, expect to never see those coins again, Bittrex have stolen from me, holding my coins ransom until such time I legitamise a terrorist organisation masquerading as guberment, by begging them for some ID to share with those extortionists, which will never happen...

And they are ignoring my support tickets for over a week now...

Not wise depositing with them, if you have no ID and or wish to remain anonymous...

This is why I never gave a single exchange my ID. Back when I still bothered with trading, you could go to any exchange and trade altcoin to altcoin back and forth without any sort of information, the withdraw was small but enough to get some altcoins that I was interested win without giving my dox to some exchange controlled by god knows who.

Poloniex used to be like this too, and suddenly now it seems you need full verification for crypto to crypto too.

Luckily I got my funds out of these exchanges before these policies got put in place.

Now if I want to trade and get some altcoin, im forced to either do a full verification or use some of these low volume shitcoin exchanges that still don't require verification.

I will never feel safe giving my ID to crypto exchanges, so get your coins out into a wallet, and hold them until you want to convert them into something else. Everything else is a needless gamble.
57  Economy / Economics / Re: Martin Armstrong Discussion on: January 21, 2018, 04:31:40 PM
Also the Zionists know damn well what they’re doing to take us to a NWO global reserve currency via a monetary reset which replaces the USD as the reserve currency with a global one. And that is why they created and planted Bitcoin as a surreptitious creative destruction of the nation-state central banking system with the USD as the reserve (which served it’s interim role but now they’re capable of moving to next level of global integration and control so they want to use subterfuge to disintermediate their own surreptitiously controlled central banks surreptitiously).

How do the forkers (as in these trying to fork Bitcoin) sit within your theory? We have for example the theory/conspiracy of Mike Hearn and Gavin Andresen (and now Craig Wright as well) being hired by the CIA to promote the several amounts of Bitcoin fork attempts that have taken place (XT, Classic, Unlimited, and Gavin also supported Bitcoin Cash).

So what role do the forks and the forkers play within your model specifically?

And about the name, you already talked about Verify using the CRED token... will this be a problem? I mean it's already on a couple of exchanges.

There's also "Decred" and another one called "Credo" (whatever that is). If CRED becomes huge enough I don't see these being a problem, but with so many alike names you really want to stand out to not confuse noobs.
58  Economy / Speculation / Re: us fiscal cliff helping btc go up at the moment. on: January 20, 2018, 12:36:27 PM
your thoughts

Just made a thread on this on the economics section. I think yes that is the case. The public perception is that anything that makes a government seem less robust will make the price of bitcoin go up, and "government shutdown" fears are always a nice bullish trigger for nation neutral assets. Gold went up $4 dollars in the past few hours lol.
59  Economy / Economics / Re: Martin Armstrong Discussion on: January 20, 2018, 12:22:37 PM
IMO, Monero was a very cartoonish name when I first heard it and for me still is until now, because the name is targeting the serious notion of money but in a playful manner (people interested in money are very serious about it). They basically patterned the name on the concept of the game Monopoly, thus it’s funny money aka monopoly money (not real money). Perhaps they were motivated by money+euro, I dunno.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/monero

#justsayin'

I remembered how some people claimed Monero sounded like a mexican name or something, I then realized that "dinero" means money in spanish so that must be the connection to some claiming "it sounds mexican", not sure fluffyponny was aware on that.

fluffy doesn't indeed seem to care much about marketing. I reckon he once trolled people into thinking there was going to be some huge reveal in a conference, then he just played some comedy video making fun of ICOs and the market tanked (after the pump, so could also have been insider trading). Then again pretending not to care about marketing and the project's self image is also a form of marketing.
60  Economy / Economics / BTC up on gov shutdown news? on: January 20, 2018, 12:01:20 PM
The news of a potential US government shutdown seem to be in sync with this 8% bitcoin rise. Coincidence or not? It was going up anyway and this seems to have triggered a pretty nice green candle. There's US government shutdown fears almost yearly but it has only happened 4 times in 25 years, I wonder how bitcoin will perform if it actually happens, I assume it will perform very well.
