41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IOTA - Permissioned ledger Russian extortion scheme on: March 31, 2016, 12:24:39 AM
You never gave descriptive enough betting nomenclature for the first bet for anyone to accept.  For the second one I said sure, still awaiting payment:

This is bullshit and you know it.
A bet is not a bet if you just demand payment without putting your own money on the line.
Get escrow and lets do this already.

Everyone who wants to make money should start working on IOTA projects rather than just speculate on token value, there's huge VCs looking to invest into IOTA projects, but for that to happen the projects first need to emerge. So if you're in this for money: be smart and go for the real big money

Can someone give some ideas, how to start working on IOTA projects?

thanks!

It seems most of the people focused on IOTA tend to spend their time on chat.iotatoken.com, asked there and be answered Wink

there are exactly 2 reasons why people want another ICO,

Greed and jealousy.

I think I speak for a lot of poeple inside the IOTA community when i say,
If the only reason why you want IOTA is because you want to sell them at profit
then we dont want you.

Oh really? then more investment into Iota through ico2 would please you? I  mean how can you not want more funds for the project?

Not sure i understand your point, please elaborate.

Do you mean the IOTA-devs should get more funding to help development?

Yes, that is where the ico2 money raised would go isn't it?

why did they only want a few hundred k....Lisk just bagged up millions.

I will repeat following on every page here until we complete one of the fundraisers successfully. If thats okay with the Iota team?

Persistence pays of, probably.
I tweeted about it, please retweet to make sure everyone knows about it: https://twitter.com/tangleNinja/status/713402174366203904

This is important, lets make this happen already.
Thanks!

Edit: I just realised i have a typo in that tweet,

a small contribution for IOTA community from a talented friend:

any donations are welcome. [prefer IOTA]
Wow,wonderful video. Smiley

Yes It looks nice, but i think we could use a video with visualizations more specific to iota,
david posted this once in ryver, something in the style of:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=kurzgesagt
and not just some generic stock video with text added.

If you need invitation Ryver for tested IOTA, you can sent me your email via MP!!  Wink

Yes we need more people with coding skills for testing.
I just cant believe that out of all the people following iota i am the only one who figured out how to
send transactions/messages, feel pretty alone on tangle....

If you want to test sending transactions and dont want to risk your own genesis account I am willing to send you a few of my IOTA.
You can request IOTA by doing the following:
Broadcast a (IOTA - on tangle ) msg containing your IOTA Address. ( you dont need iota to send messages )
PM me the hash of that message.
you can pm me here or on ryver ( i probably have faster response time on ryver )

This is just to keep everyone from requesting iota, i am not a faucet.

This is the console.html file from the current IRI (IOTA Reference Implementation) to test if the node is running properly. I am very sure the actual IOTA wallet will not look like this.

I made this, this is not the original console.html file, this is not inculded in current IRI version, this is not what the official wallet is gonna look like.
This was just me putting together a very simple wallet for testing sending transactions.

You can find more Info here:

I don't understand why would you choose the default port to be value below 1024 which means you cannot run this on unix system without super user privileges.

Even when I change the port in the config file, it still tries to bind to 999 so the server crashes.

You probably changed the api port.

API runs over 999 TCP per default, unless you change in your config file, nodes exchange data ( transactions, messages ) over 999 udp.
Thats why it tries to bind to 999.

Are you stupid or what? That's the issue ... the software should not run on a port which requires root privilege.

I answered as to why it still tries to bind to port 999, not as to why it uses port 999, I did not code IRI so i can not answer this, however this might be
one reason to use 999:

https://www.w3.org/Daemon/User/Installation/PrivilegedPorts.html

EDIT: just saw cfb answerd this already

Is it time for Iota to have its own forum? Instead of everything residing in this thread.

58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: March 07, 2016, 07:07:38 AM

I've never heard of Lisk, neither have billions of other people, so should they hold another ICO?  IOTA raised over 1.3k BTC and the ICO was pretty well advertised among users, that's pretty good for any crowd funded project. Anyway, another ICO is not happening so you're wasting your breath.

Really? and yet it is on nearly every page of this thread in bold upon which you have been posting. I see it there in the sigs of people you're replying to? and on nearly every page here.

Are you sure you never heard of it before?

I don't think you're 100% able to say for sure there won't be a 2nd ICO. It hasn't really been discussed on the  main forum yet. You would be more than shocked what a good discussion can bring. Do you know that they nearly did a huge air drop for darkcoin once because I and then a few others who noticed said it would be a great idea.

If you believe something is a good idea and then you convince others it's a great idea too.... You can make it happen.

I dont speak for core devs, but I am gonna go out on a limb here and say:

You are the only one crying about 2nd ICO.

It is not gonna happen.

deal with it.

IOTA dosn't need a 2nd ICO, IOTA dosn't need more speculators.
IOTA needs more partnerships with big companies like the Microsoft thing.
I dont see Satya Nadella bitchin around because he missed ICO.

As for ETA annoying, welcome to the world of development. As we stated we outsourced the GUI and so we can't really do anything to boost it up other than provide them with input.

Seems like you didn't talk about any timeframes with them and it's a bit strange... If they do the job for a money, and if they're professionals, there's got to be some timeframes.

Of course we did, it's a highly reputable design firm from San Francisco. And due to this we actually had an unexpected delay due to international wiretransfer being stuck for days before work could even commence. But timeframes is flexible when you work on GUI due to the nature of iterations. You provide a rough idea, wireframes are put together, you review them and give pointers, new wireframes are drawn, eventually you greenlight them, then the next stage is design draft, then redraft after input, then another draft, then another input etc. Then animation, same process, then coding, similar issues there and then finally connecting back-end to front-end.  We're now at the stage where I've given a clean 'go ahead'.

I kind of hope the GUI is not too awesome, like iotatoken.com overdid all the canvas background stuff.... cant even scroll fluidly on an quad-core Atom 1,44 GHz

you could at least post a hash of a message containing or related to that number or something to make this proveable.

anyway,
