Interesting announcement! How do you specify "big holders"? I mean what is the minimal amount of IOTATokens to be considered as big holder?

Potential opportunity

I am in the preliminary stages of negotiating a potentially big opportunity for IOTA. Now before crazy speculators start trying to exploit this for their own gain: this is still VERY MUCH in the realm of the hypothetics and absolutely NOT going to happen unless the big holders of IOTA actively engage in this to make it happen. So no one should see this as exciting until this happens. For now it's just a potential opportunity

I encourage the big holders of IOTA to contact me either via contact@iotatoken.com, Ryver or PM over at http://forum.iotatoken.com to discuss further. The reason I won't leak any further info is simple: I don't want speculators to abuse this (currently) non-info to boost IOTA. If I see any retweets about this it will be the last time I ever make a public call.

At this moment I set the cap at 1 million IOTA, because we'll need these people to be open to this for it to ever happen. If it goes forward we might call in more community members to help this happen, for now it's still very much preliminary stages.

I just wanna to clarify the obvious calculations:

Suppose you're holding 100 iotas which cost 1 USD each, then 100 USD.
Then if you donate 5 iotas, you have 95 iotas.
But, if price rice 50% to 1.5 USD, you have 95 x 1.5 = 142.5 USD.
This means 5 $ investment brings 42,5 USD profit, thus
Code:
ROI = (Gains – Cost)/Cost
(42,5 - 5)/5 = 750% ROI

750% ROI

Think about it.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

As many of you know, durerus came up with a really great idea, by offering to pay a bounty for an easy to understand explanation of details about Iota.

He encouraged others to join in, and many of us did.

Here is the original quote.

I pledge 1000 IOTA (payable after launch) for a short description understandable for the average bitcoiner of

1. how and why consensus in IOTA works
2. how and why it solves scalability
3. why zero fees are possible

We could post this on reddit etc.

Feel free to add IOTA to the pledge, if you think this is important.

I added that the bounty should also include:

4. Information on Iota being quantum resistant, and also

5. An analogy of how the Tangle works

Everyone should add at least a small amount to this.

I'm pledging 250 Iota

Also, what makes it quantum resistant, and how that works. I feel this should be written in a way that is easy to understand.

Maybe someone can come up with a simple analogy that helps to explain how Tangle works?

Maybe add none of these things, just things we can think about.

Great effort. I would pledge more, but Im no whale, and want to support other efforts as well.

tolstoy bolded my suggestion, and came up with the idea that the bounty would include

6. An Infographic

Yes, this is important. We should also make this visual ("a picture is worth a thousand words").
I pledge 999 IOTA for funding the infographic.

Here is a list of those who have pledged so far:

Durerus-   1000
Hashtag101-   250
Yassin54-   1000
Barbierir-    100
Rdanneskjoldr-  1000
Rtrtcrypto-   7500
Tolstoy-    999
Bizz-   1000
Timeline-  250
Jabbawa-  250
Anewafresh-  400

I guess my only question, is if we get more than one submission in which they complete all 6 criteria, does it go to a community vote then?

I pledge 10.000 IOTA, Will deposit to Yasson or other escrow when IOTA goes live. Can sign with BTC key owning 5+ million IOTA I am also willing to pledge BTC for production of a high quality video explaining IOTA. see. Ethereum, or Lisk video. IOTA is a game changer and I want to support knowledge.

Also, if you want to buy IOTA, I pledge 5% of the NXT from sales to this purpose or the IOTA foundation. https://nxtportal.org/assets/9953479440232196730

Interesting. Didn't know that there is a IOTA foundation. Who is running it?

Looks like easy explanations of the basics are of high demand, since so many others pledged too. But sadly nobody volunteered so far. Maybe 6. Infographic is too intimidating, because it requires graphic skills.

I (maybe others too) will also pay my 1000 IOTA to the guy who makes a start in trying to answer the first 4 questions and finishes the text with the help of the community. Try it! Don't be afraid of looking stupid! Seems like even big investors don't know yet how IOTA really works Wink

I think with altcoinscamfinder adding another 10000 iota, its just a matter of time.

The payment they will receive is starting to get up there.

I'm happy you started something this positive.

Great job

If it's the IOTA asset you will have to send back your IOTAs to the issuer account with an encrypted message containing your IOTA's address.

IOTA tokens are currently being sold and bought using escrow and trust before the network actually launches. Could someone post a step by step guide on how to sell and buy such tokens on BitBay in these circumstances? Where to download the client, which version etc.

Both buyer and seller should post an escrow deposit and the contract should last at least 3 months until it expires after which the escrow is returned if neither party disagrees (this takes care of either party dying or losing keys etc). Also the contract should be able to expire if both parties want so. And the contract should terminate successfully when the buyer has received the tokens (when the IOTA network eventually launches and is declared safe to do transactions on) and the seller has received the payment (BTC or perhaps even BitBay).

Illodin posted a question regarding IOTA in BitBay thread a while ago. I'm posting the reply here as well in case he is not following our thread, and because more of you might find this interesting. So here it goes:

My apologies for the late reply. I had a lot on my plate.

Download the client from OP or our site bitbay.market for the latest public version. Until we get the new release there's only a client for windows. When the new release is ready we will have mac and linux as well. The client comes with an installer, so just follow the instructions. Make a backup of your keys right away. If you don't you probably don't care enough to remember to do so later and might be heading for trouble if disk crashes etc. Now you have to wait for the client to sync. This can take a day or two depending on your computer and connection.

Some have reported problems connecting to the network. I can't remember if that was with the client or the QT wallet. A conf file will solve that.
I can't remember if the client has a conf file with adnodes. If it doesn't you can write write one yourself in notepad. Copy paste the following into a new doc:
addnode=104.236.208.150
addnode=188.166.39.223
addnode=128.199.118.67
addnode=104.255.33.162
addnode=194.135.84.161
addnode=23.227.190.163
Save it as bitbay.conf in /BitBay/bitbaydata
Be aware that it sometimes takes a little while for the client to establish the first contact with the network

To speed up the syncing you can use the bootstrap in OP, or use http://cryptochainer.com
Bootstrap is a little faster than syncing over the network, but still takes a long time. Replacing the files needed for the blockchain with the download from cryptochainer is very fast, so if you trust them you can be up and running in 15-30 minutes.

Now get some Bay. The leading Bay exchange is Bittrex.

When you have transfered your Bay to your client, you are good to go.

If you are the first to buy or sell IOTA tokens, I suggest you open a new market for this and have others follow you there. Go to the market tab, click add/join market, and name your new market IOTA.
Now go to the home tab and click custom contract. Click normal contract in the window that will pop up. New window will appear. In the dropdown choose your new made IOTA market. Tick of the other choices to your liking and click accept. A contact form will appear. If you don't want/need to supply any contact info you can type a single character in the email box, and click "save profile and continue" You are now taken to the "make an offer" tab. If no contact info etc is needed you could have gone directly to "make offer". The difference is that by going the custom template route fills in the correct address to post this to.
Fill out the form in "make an offer". We recommend double deposit escrow, but you can set any deposit you want. The deposit also doesn't have to be the same for buyer and seller. There is a spam preventing minimum deposit of less than 1 Bay.

At the bottom of the form you set the time for the contract. You may want to set it for just a little longer than you think is needed. If the contract expires before the deal is done, the deposit it is lost. A very strong incentive to not just fulfill the deal, but also to stick to the time frame.
For now it is not possible to do this the other way around like you wanted, meaning the deposit is automatically returned if no one disagrees.
When the deal is done, both parties go to their open contracts tab in the client and report the deal fulfilled. When both have done so the deposits will be released simultaneously to both parties.

Tip: You can use the client as a market for anything for any coin. The double deposit will have to be Bay because that's the only currency the client is able to freeze, but the payment could be in any coin. You can also make "members only" markets by adding a new market with a name that is hard to hit by coincidence.

Excellent video, i really like the visualizations.

BTW you may want to double check if a new transaction approves 2 or 3 previous transactions. I think i read somewhere that it is 3.
Don't quote me on that, i probably am wrong.

EDIT:
- you can buy IOTA on exchange right now - but on Nxt Asset Exchange at the current time.

If I understood correctly in this monday morning, this means that I would have created an IOTA address previously? Moreover, I am not really sure on how to send an encrypted message to the issuer account on nxt, maybe a quick tutorial (it doesn't look very hard, just including the few steps to follow) could be useful for some people.

Thank you for your help.

What you are buying on the nxt asset exchange is a promise to have IOTA delivered to you when it is released. Right now iota is in testing. The people selling their iota are the ones who bought during the presale
