41  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If you had to live only on bitcoins, what would you need to buy? on: January 29, 2013, 10:45:37 AM
Hello Bitlovers.

I'm making a website to promote bitcoin - and want to push the 'essentials' if life one needs to buy in order to live.

So, I'd say:
  • Food
  • Car Fuel
  • Electirc energy to the home
  • Internet Service Provider

Any other idea's ?
Housing.
42  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to cash out of Bitcoins? on: January 29, 2013, 10:19:13 AM
mtgox is the best place you can cash them out i think
If you dont mind giving them a ton of personal details to cash out your internet funbux including bank account details. Considering how often these exchanges are "hacked", I sure as hell wouldnt trust them with that kind of information.
43  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if the US Government forced exchanges to close? on: January 29, 2013, 10:12:52 AM
why the us will want to force exchanges to close?
A Libertarian wet dream where everyone starts using gold bitcoins instead of the USD.
44  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone making a living at Bitcoin Mining? on: January 29, 2013, 09:21:41 AM
What would be the right investment to make a return on mining with a budget of $5k to $7k, not to make a living off but just to make a reasonable little profit? Ordo you have to spend much more? what equipment would you buy etc???

You wont break even before you have to buy new hardware.

FPS for bitcoins/litecoins/virtual assets could be a good idea if done right.

I would be interested in setting up a dev team for this purpose, we can pay you with virtual shares.

For more info, check the link in my signature.
Why would you pay him? He has no real useful skills to contribute. It's not even an original idea.

Faster confirmations. 10 minute confirmations make it a huge joke as a real currency.

Sorry for my newbie questions.  I'm totally new to bitcoins.

Is it possible that the US government could shut down bitcoin exchanges?
The kind that let you buy fiat currencies?

Thanks

MtGox runs out of Japan.  How would they shut that down?

US to Japan hey you know them 10s of thousands of troops we have there protecting your ass well there gone if you don't ....
You're an idiot if you think they need those troops there. We have them stationed there for our tactical advantage which is more important than bitcoin will ever be.

Whatever asshole who got the trillion plus bailout you think they won't do their bidding again.
No, because doing so would hurt our ability to project power. It's cute that you think a currency of scammers and thieves is even a real threat to the USD.

...Nobody even has an ASIC, not from any company yet...

Forgive me sir, I am new, and literally only discovered Bitcoin a few days ago.

I heard, however, that one distributor, Avalon, have sent out their first 300 units a few days ago?  Has no-one received theirs yet?
They are just buying time until their shipment gets "stolen" by Somalian pirates or some other nonsense so they can try and get more money from idiots.
49  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone making a living at Bitcoin Mining? on: January 29, 2013, 05:43:54 AM
ASICs would ruin that but no one is ever going to see those.

Some people would disagree with that. But I am not one of them.

But in regards with ASIC's and electricity. I could see it working if someone had solar panels etc on their house that thus didn't get charged electricity until after a certain time. But perhaps its not going to be down to which ASIC's that puts out the most hashing power, but rather the one that can do it the most effeciently and thus save on your powerbill. Provided we will ever see one of them (And I am majorly apprehensive that we ever will.)
There is still a cost associated there which would make it even more difficult to get your ROI. You'd be better off selling excess energy to the grid with your solar power.

51  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Avalon ASIC Miner antenna on: January 29, 2013, 05:04:46 AM
Hi,

I made an account to reply to this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137534.740

I did not invest in any ASICS or even mining equipment (but i have 1.6BTC Smiley)

When seeing this picture:

I wanted to say: When shipping to Europe, and especially France, Belgium, Italy and Spain, please unscrew the antenna and do not put the antenna in the package. The customs in these countries are really butthurt if they think it contains a transmitter for which a CE declaration does not exist. It's not really a problem, you can self-certify for CE, you just need someone in Europe to sign the declaration of conformity. Avalon could provide the required documents, have the receiver sign them (but he is then fully responsible for meeting the requirements), submit them to the customs, and get the package. This would add at least on month of delay for these costumers.

Also, put a CE mark on the box and on the equipment. You can still get the package if it has none (suppose you are the importer who is going to put the product on the EU market and who will put the CE mark on it), but this requires a lot of paperwork and delay.

This is a pretty large box that has a high chance of being opened by the customs if its sent by HK post or certainly if sent with EMS. DHL has little problems, since they do customs declaration in advance, and only 1:100 packages is typically opened.

BTW: This newbie rule is really stupid.
I dont know what I think is cuter, you thinking that Avalon will ship anything or that you think that's not just a bunch of electronics tossed together.
52  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will bitcoins provide a way to prevent government confiscation of wealth? on: January 29, 2013, 05:01:12 AM
No. If they want to get that money out of you they will do it. Refuse? Sure go ahead and wait in prison until you change your mind.
53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone making a living at Bitcoin Mining? on: January 29, 2013, 04:59:07 AM
It can be potentially profitable if your roommate/mother/sucker is paying the electricity. ASICs would ruin that but no one is ever going to see those.

After talking to a friend that does video game design, and Google searching, it looks like I'm in way over my head. Security of people's accounts alone seems like a nightmare Cry.
When has that ever stopped a bitcoiner? Just store everything in plaintext and hope for the best.

Also it'd be ridiculously easy to get into a high stakes game, bet big and then use a hack to win the pot.
