confirmation bias

Spend a few hours at that site and realize how stupid we all really are.

On a different note, anyone interested in PMCs and their price-development, should look at the DMS set of assets and its price/dividend developments.

This thread puts it in perspective pretty well.

404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative Block Chains : be safe! on: August 08, 2013, 02:16:56 PM
I think these are perfectly legitimate concerns actually but the way I found out whether Bitcoin wasn't a scam and the way I find out anything else isn't a scam is this:

. Is it open source? If it's open source then that means people will be able to look at the code and find anything suspicious or even help to improve it if the developer is unwilling, it's very difficult to plant something bad if people can investigate it with a microscope

Be careful here. As a coder, I can hide some pretty fancy run time code that calls a script from a server that can update with malicious intentions.

Or if I am really lazy, I can have an open source on git, but a private one that I compile from with the bad code.
You are not protected on most of these, the laziness of the stupid people copying/pasting the new alt-coins is the only thing that is protecting you.

If a group with the education/willfulness somewhat smarter then the average 15 year old coder decided to reek havoc on all of the folks that race to mine the alt-coin on launch; the damage wouldn't be measurable.

Thought experiment:
Pre-announce alt-coin
On release link to source on git. Publish a binary with hidden code.
Include code in binary to copy all wallet files from all altcoins traded on cryptsy.
On the server that the wallets are uploaded to, run a test to see if it is encrypted.
For unencrypted wallets send the coins to cryptsy/coins-e wallet and sell for btc/ltc.
Have code self-patch to remove the function call.
...
Wait a few months, rinse and repeat.

The above project can be done by anyone with coding experience in a matter of days.  You are not protected, please start being somewhat cautious.

HTH.

407  Economy / Securities / Re: The SEC IS Investigating Bitcoin Securities Exchanges on: August 07, 2013, 08:48:02 PM
Quick note. IMHOP and limited understanding of bitfunder. The asset list: https://bitfunder.com/assetlist
means that there isn't even a need for a site. If the site goes down as long as the asset list is current on any other clone and they are synced, maybe a private altcoin with a specific blockchain for managing the list,  any site anywhere could reproduce everyone's holdings.

Not sure if btct maintains a similar list, maybe they can work together to create sec-coin and open up a shared api.

Of course if I am completely misunderstanding the current back-end, please enlighten me.
408  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Fenix. Hashing from the ashes of Bakewell. on: August 07, 2013, 08:37:42 PM
A bit of dumping bakewell shares that were converted to fenix? Any speculation?  I am guessing some are just happy to be rid of bakewell, others are cashing out to bit on another ipo?

410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mandatory Update to Nuggets (NUGs) 1.0.1! Get your VGB - Vlad Golden Blocks on: August 06, 2013, 08:54:44 PM
One more thing bob.

Like I tell everyone: buy, mine and hoard all the different coins you can cause I fully expect a Bitcoin ETF and I fully expect Bitcoin to blow past $1,000 before the end of next year which will cause a global mania in alt coins and given the shortage in supply there's gonna be some massive million dollar opportunities in these alt coins.

My top picks to purchase since mining them is pointless are:  Devcoin and ixCoin.  I have been accumulating both and they're both down about 80% in just the 3 months I've been here.  If I had a job I'd buy 2% of ixCoin and at least 250 million devcoins.  For crying outloud, that would only cost a few thousand dollars.  The risk reward is way better than stocks and there's no tax laws for these coins yet (as far as i've seen) which is a huge plus.

As for mining, mine any coins you can and don't sell them.  Just wait 12 months and see what happens.  By then my theories should be either true or totally false.

Good luck!

Wow you are golden. Send me your bitfunder username in pm and I will send you a mining bond.

Free 1000 [blank] coins to anyone who ask. Be sure to run the inverse-rainbow de-hasher on the exe to see the wallet.
412  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Fenix. Hashing from the ashes of Bakewell. on: August 06, 2013, 06:40:52 PM
Go for ipo on Fenix.Research

Summary: Research into quantum processing mining. Get your coins before you mine them.

On a serious note. An ipo with a clear indication that 10% of mining proceeds would be part of a research division of Fenix that could do things with the leaway Darpa has.

Couple of questions:

What are your long term goals for this coin?

What services need to be put into place to be useful.

-

The superblocks are nuts, but they do make the premine you gave away have less impact.

Also, are you ok. You sound like a Mad Overload in a bad B movie. I can get you some Prozac on SR if you would like.

-Bob

Hey Bob.

Sorry, had a few busy days.

I'm hoping to get enough BTC to add the features I wanted.  The obvious is real golden blocks that are scam proof.

The other features, well, I need to talk them over with the programmer I hire and see which ones are doable, I won't assume it's an easy thing again.  That's all I can say for too many copy cat scammers are lurking. But I'm not giving up on this coin.

As for the slow release Prozac....nah, that's for pussies. I'll take my mental pain and aguish on the edge and like it....and sometimes share it with some well deserving individuals.

P.S.  Sock Puppet Noted.

You might consider instead of hiring a programmer for btc, asking for help instead.
You can always ask CaptChad, he can share how he has learned to follow the foocoin guide. :-)

Figure if ORB can make if, you can too.  As for the security of the superblocks, no real way around that since blocksize has to be known before you start mining the next block. Only way I can think of doing it is a random script that gets the wallets of all registered miners for an official pool and sends the winner a superblock that way. Wouldn't be part of the mining algo.

Enjoying the hell out of this entire thread. :-)
414  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Fenix. Hashing from the ashes of Bakewell. on: August 06, 2013, 01:31:53 AM
Any dividend estimates?  Or do we need to start a Fenix Speculation, FUD, and Manipulation thread for that?   Cheesy

Hashing since July 25th, call the average whatever you want 140-150gh, minus a day maybe for setup, then a transfer to another pool once. So maybe 10-11 days worth, think there was a difficulty jump inbetween there. So if someone wants to do the math go ahead.

~.009 per share -- rough estimate. IMHOP since I didn't pass calculus

OK it's been an eventful 24hrs so now with things a bit quieter on here I'd like to suggest a game.

The problem with checking in on the ACtM threads every 1 or 2 hrs looking at the very latest posting and being ready to dump all your shares at the drop of a hat is you can fall victim to the sort of false news release we saw yesterday. Sadly there are probably people buying back right now above .005 who sold at .004, or worse still they are waiting to buy back at .004 but it may never go there again and they will begrudgingly buy back at .006 or .007. A tragedy.

Now the game is this, what would the situation be if you secured your shares at btc-e/bitfunder then logged out of bitcoin forum today and didn't come back for 3months? What would you come back to?

Just a bit of fun. Any answers should include what you may think will happen with ACtM news releases, progress made over the 3 months, share price in 3months and route it took to get there, dividend payments, BTC price and anything else that might be of interest.

So in 3months time where will we be?

ACtM shares nearing the .009 mark.
S.E.C starts to close in on US holders of securities. Couple of high profile arrest are made and 1000's of bitcoins lost as market crumbles in those assets.
ACtM changes ownership to foreign national to avoid S.E.C, shares go to .05 at the news.
Friedcat on the run from bad Triad loan. AM shares plummet
PrimeCoin gets on Gox, LTC holders riot and burn MtGox to the ground.
BTC-E becomes a legitimate exchange and vows to 'do no evil'
Pres. Obama accepts his first btc tip on twitter.
btcquick goes belly-up, owners are seen in new boat.
