401  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL board project COINTAMINATION - EU+USA facility - need samples for one board on: September 23, 2013, 08:26:13 PM
....
My issue is that payment is only accepted in Bitcoin. I am aware there are many outlets through which one can purchase BTC, however, some people simply aren't all that comfortable doing so. Do you have any plans in the future for other payment options?
....

If you don't feel comfortable with BTC then don't invest anything into this project, or BTC at all. Buy some gold you can hide under the pillow.

How can you expect the BTC economy to get bigger, if no-one feels 'comfortable with it'?  Shocked
My advise to you is, get the BTC now, so you can send them to JJ when he is ready and your chips arrived!
You still have at least a couple of weeks lead time. Get comfortable with it!!!  Wink

Excuse me for simply asking a question about alternate payment options. No need to be rude... I certainly didn't feel my question came across that way.

402  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL board project COINTAMINATION - EU+USA facility - need samples for one board on: September 23, 2013, 12:49:12 AM
$599 is quite expensive, I reliaze you need to make a profit but not $300 worth.

Just to address this issue of price, I want it to be known that our profit margin is extremely slim.

From the gold trace 4 layer PCB's to the $40 top of the line fan on the cooling system we did not skimp anywhere.

Not to mention the fact these boards are assembled in the USA, and include free express usps overnight shipping.

You might be able to manufacture these boards slightly cheaper than we are but they would have to be done in another country and with cheaper parts.

for $600 your getting an extremely well made product, with a 5 day build time.

If anyone is interested in 10 or 15 day build times I may be able to lower the price a little.

Thats the only way to get the price down, either that or a huge order at one time, but as we all know time is of the essence.

These boards cost me almost $400 each assembled and that is before the cooling system parts, and the time spent to load firmware , package and ship them out. When all is said in done we are making less than $100 profit per board, we are not doing this to get rich, we are doing it to provide a solution to the community to utilize these BFL chips in the best fashion possible. I have personallly purchased hundreds of these chips and have my own stake in this.

I hope this clears some mis-conceptions up.

If someone claims they can make these boards for $200-$300 they dont know what they are talking about. Sure I can provide a cheap PCB and use the lowest priced cheap chinese parts and assembly and save some money but your units wont hash long enough to even ROI in that scenario plus you will have to wait longer to get the unit which threaten ROI even further.

For people outside North America - you will need to talk to your sales rep Lucko about his assembly plant at what they can offer you.

thanks for listening!
-JJ

JJ -

Although $600 is far from the original board estimate of ~$300 that was getting thrown around near the start of this thread (I cant even be sure you were actually the one who quoted such a price) I honestly have no issue with your pricing. Although this is a fun and exciting hobby you obviously aren't manufacturing these boards just for leisure.

My issue is that payment is only accepted in Bitcoin. I am aware there are many outlets through which one can purchase BTC, however, some people simply aren't all that comfortable doing so. Do you have any plans in the future for other payment options?

Thanks!

Guys, are you aware that the Difficulty in Jan'14 gonna be around 800 - 850 millions ..

I am not sure that we are going to make any profit. Of course this is my opinion, and you have the right not to belive me.

If (that's a big if) the machine is mining Feb 1, break even is 87 days. Anything after that will be no ROI.

But that's always the story these days I guess. Even if you get in early... after the shipping delays, massive diff increases and a "better/faster" machine coming out every month (I'm sure there's a $1/GH machine around the corner), it's almost impossible to guarantee any kind of return.

But that's why this is supposed to be a hobby not a business, RIGHT?  Cheesy Wink Tongue

I see people still don't consider price of the bitcoin...

The value of btc moves in both directions my friend, not just one.

I don't like the fact that obviously about half of batch 1 wanted refunds and half did not, hence some want chips.

Batch 2 got no refund and now gets to unload chips at half price to batch 1 buyers who got a full refund.

Nice.   Sad
Choadmeyer, payment sent.
I Have purchased Choadmeyer's 16 chips from batch 2 at a reduced rate.

In addition to the terms I have agreed with him I would also like to publicly state that if Steve does refund this batch (which appears to be shipping to Steve) then I wish Steve to refund the balance from what I payed to Choadmeyer. ( or were sort it out privately in Steves absence.)

Whilst I will not pay full price for chips, I do not wish to profit in the event of the batch being refunded.  Wink

I also want to confirm I have sold my 16 batch 2 chips to southerngentuk, as he stated. Here is the message as you requested sir:

Code:
14nMckbsrtMoYYnz2MK7wWoyjc97jVtked

I agree to sell my 16 chips from t13hydra's group by to southerngentuk.

406  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Are GPUs still relevant and for how long on: September 21, 2013, 05:56:12 PM
I'll keep using GPUs over ASIC because of a few reasons.

1) I don't trust any of these companies that are pre-ordering
2) If my ASIC is no longer bringing in many coins, or the hashing power is insignificant because of more powerful ASICs and/or the increasing difficulty, then it is a worthless device that will resell for no-where near what I paid for it
3) If my GPU is no longer bringing in many coins, then I can move to another crypto-currency that is more profitable, if that doesn't work then I can move to another one, if that doesn't work then I can sell it for relatively the same amount that I paid for it.  People are always upgrading their computers and these cards are all pretty beasty

1) Just because you don't trust the ASIC companies doesn't mean at least some of them won't deliver (and all of them look like they are so far, so later than others, but still delivering).

2) GPUs will never sell for what you bought them for. GPUs will be mining so few bitcoins these days that you will have no chance of making the difference between what you buy and sell the GPUs at. Don't forget that they use far more electricity than ASICs.

3) The difficulty of those alt coins is going to soar as all the GPU miners do this. Alt coins are all going to die anyways within a year as there is only people mining them with no one buying them or using them as they are pretty much useless.

1) The chip game is a rat race right now. I don't believe many people will see ROI on A LOT of the miners scheduled to be "delivered soon" (KNC, BFL Chips, Cointerra, Bitfury etc.) Still didn't stop me from throwing a few BTC at them  Tongue

2/3) GPUs don't sell for what you bought them for but you can get close, especially if you're selling a not-so-dated card. (79XX)
The altcoin diffs will be rising but not at the incredible rate that BTC is. To be honest I'd be surprised if there are really that many people mining BTC with GPUs. I'm running around 5 Gh/s worth for example. Why would I mine $3/day worth of BTC when I can mine $12 worth of LTC?

What is Zefir even trying to say? Less talk more REFUNDS!  Angry

I guess he's trying to say that refund was not requested for the last batch, so it's going to be delivered.

Wonderful  Tongue Sad

Concerning the second batch:

Hello zefir!

Could you please inform about the status of t13hydra's part of the last (joint EU) batch.

It will be served with the chips that are scheduled to arrive, i.e. to be expected end of next week.

412  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL board project COINTAMINATION - EU+USA facility - need samples for one board on: September 18, 2013, 09:17:39 AM

Any update on the Cointamination board/mounting pricing?

$600 just isn't very cost effective for people who don't have 16 chips to mount.

Thanks.

Board with less then 13 chips will cost less... There are steps 1-4,5-8,9-12,13-16. They have less parts on it and power supply is expansive so it will show in price difference. And we didn't yet set the price since we are not yet 100% sure what is needed for cooling. We had some problems getting staff to Germany for form to test it...

Thanks for clarifying that Lucko.

Hopefully our chips make it through customs with greater ease than the board components.  Tongue

420  Economy / Auctions / Re: [AUCTION] 16 Fully Assembled BITFURY Drillbit Boards on: August 29, 2013, 05:00:29 AM

This "auction" is outrageous.

16 boards are listed under the guise of limited availability and the bids skyrocket, then another 16 boards are suddenly available? How can you hold people to bids they made when the number of units suddenly doubles mid-auction and demand drops?

I'm sorry but I will not be sending payment for my boards as I feel the pricing & demand was manipulated. The additional boards should have been in a separate auction (you discussed this possibility but decided against it for whatever reason).

Fortunately, it looks like you have no shortage of other buyers.
