401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1060 discussion thread on: March 13, 2018, 06:40:11 AM
Now such prices for all cards as 1060 is dangerous to take and even 6g, but who buys 3g is generally a mystery to me .. Why? I have all farms for 1060-6g, they have paid for themselves for a long time and are mined for profit, but I do not buy new carts, because it's dangerous to do it in an apartment, everything will be fucked up

The 3gb are, on average, $100-150 cheaper, and depending on memory some of them run more efficiently for some altcoins, so you can recoup faster. The line is growig narrower, but you can still recoup and profit with a 1060 3g rig if you're smart.

(I do not own any 3gb, I do have a 6gb rig, but just saying)
402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer A3 earning $500 a day mining SIAcoin . .WHAT?! Results & Stats on: March 11, 2018, 05:46:20 AM
i wonder what's the current ROI for an A3.  Thinking about getting my hands on some

As of right this second, a couple months - but I'm pretty sure Bitmain has some being shipped, and another batch due by the end of the month.
Wasn't there someone else (Obelisk perhaps?) that announced a SIA miner a few months back but has yet to deliver?

The price of sia has fallen over 50% in the last month. I don’t see an end in sight either.

Do ASICS usually increase the price of the coin? I would think it would drive prices even farther down

All coins are down right now. BTC is around $8k at the moment.

And no, ASICs don't inherently increase the price of a coin, the added capability of the network makes it more appealing to investors and for actual use. For finite coins, as the difficulty increases (which ASICs definitely contribute to) and the payouts per block decrease the coin usually ends up worth more, but SIA is an infinite coin, so that math doesn't really apply either. I personally think it will get as high as 5c, even 10c, in the not-too-distant future, but I also think mining it on an A3 is not going to be worth the electricity by the end of the year...

That's a link to a url that shows the image. You need to use an image link (ends in .jpg, .gif, .png, etc).

sundownz posts have pictures showing and they do not have any extension.

See here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1955358.msg31588057#msg31588057

The link to one of his pictures is: https://ibb.co/jsWe57

You can put that link in a browser and see the picture and you can do the same with my picture link.

So the answer is not the extension but must be something else.

I don't know about sundownz, but that is how you use the img tags.

Example:

I tried to install google remote desktop but i didn't allow me to install .deb file.
Is google remote desktop possible with Ethos?

If you have a computer on the same network you don't need it in ethOS, you just need it on that computer. I use OSX's desktop sharing or whatever it's called (built into screen sharing, just requires some tweaking) so when I leave town I just log into the gui of my server and then use the ethOS dashboard links to shell-in-a-box. Or you can just ssh into your ethOS machines from anywhere, I just find this method easier...
thx for reply, but this is not the answer what i look.
Do you know why i can't install google's remote desktop?

In ethOS? No. You're probably missing a ton of dependencies, though, so I'd start there.

ethOS is not exactly Ubuntu, but this tutorial may help:

Not sure what cards you are using, core and power settings vary between AMD and Nvidia, but for memclock you would definitely put:

globalmem 2000

Though I've found that varies too, for my cards it seems to be more effective to use full values for AMD and + or - for Nvidia, so if your base memory clock is, say, 1600, you would put:

globalmem +400

You can also break it down card to card, which is what the sample format shows, but I only do that if I have cards with different memory types in the rig, the variation isn't worth the trial and error for me (ymmv).

As far as power limiting goes, though, I can't give you specifics but for AMD you would play more with the core/globalcore setting, for Nvidia the globalpowertune. For ethash (Ethereum and similar coins), I have my 1060s (Nvidia) set like this:

globalmem +450
globalpowertune 75

Which, on my Samsung memory cards, gives me about 22mh/s and 75W power draw.

For my 580s (AMD), my settings are:

globalcore 1200
globalmem 2200
globalpowertune 2

Which gives me about 28mh/s and rough estimate of 115W per card (harder to figure out because the dashboard only reports voltage for AMD).

These settings will MOST LIKELY NOT be optimal for your cards, but they are a place to start if you need one (though I suggest starting lower for memory, higher for power settings and doing some testing). Subsequently you can figure out your card's optimal settings using tools in windows and then use them as a starting point, and back off a little if there is any instability. Good luck! Smiley

EDIT: Also note that you will want to play with these settings if you switch algos, as each algo demands are different.

I have RX470 from Asus.
I have tried these settings but no hope. I get 23-24 mh/s instead of windows' 29mh/s.

Those aren't settings for a 470, go by whatever your settings were in Windows.

Also try a different miner? Depending on the version, Claymore is often better than ethminer.
407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1060 discussion thread on: March 04, 2018, 08:55:30 PM
guys now there are plenty more profitable coins than eth dual mining or zcash or zec

smartcash
btx
xzv
bitcoinz
bitcoingold
electroneum
monacoin!!!!

and many others giving you double than eth+dual

Hello, I've started mining just a few weeks ago, I've checked which coin ismore profitable, and for the 1060 seems eth is a good coin to mine. I have read about other coins that theorically seems more profitable, I've read the feedback from people mining some of these more profitable coins and in most cases miners had problems, so my question is that as you seems to have experience mining other coins with 1060 gpu's, it would be great to know your feedback and toknow if these coins are realiable, and which one of these coins are the most profitable at this moment and which miners are you using to mine these coins.

Thanks in advance.

When I started I mined small amounts of many different coins, but I settled into ETH as my "set it and forget it". I keep an eye on new coins and if something looks interesting I throw a rig at it for a day or two just to have some, but ultimately picking a coin that you think is stable and will stick around (for me, ETH and BTG are favorites, but there are several GPU coins that I don't see disappearing or bottoming out) just makes more sense. Remember that whattomine and sites like that are based on a lot of different factors, and ultimately the most profitable coin is going to be the one that will be worth the most in the long run, unless you are cashing out daily.

So, like, just because Ellaism might be worth more for a few hours or even a couple days doesn't necessarily mean switching your rig to it is the right call, as it may just be because ETH had a drop in value. When it picks back up, you still mined the same number of coins on the day it was worth less, those coins are just worth more now. Basically the only time those value sites are 100% accurate is on the day you sell.

EDIT TO ADD: also I believe that post was about dual mining, i.e., a second coin mined at the same time using a capable miner (like claymore). I rarely dual mine because of the wear and tear on my cards, I'd rather they last longer than generate an extra $1/day or so, but some coins are worth it. I used to dual SIA sometimes, and did for the couple weeks up to the release of the A3, because I thought it would be worth the risk (and it was). Most of the time, though, I just use ethminer and mine Ethereum.

My question is: why did Bitmain pick Sia vs all the other coins? Do they have some inside information about its future success? All I see about Sia is the price plummeting and management representation on Reddit boards looking like a bunch of college kids who don't know what they're doing operationally.

I'm wondering if  Bitmain chose Sia because it was creating one of the only other mining platforms. They are effectively ruining the Obelisk's profit potential and knocking them out of the business.

I think mainly because it is an algo that an ASIC exists for. There is speculation it was to undercut Obelisk, but I don't think that's the whole thing. I think they saw growth potential, and it being an unlimited coin, POS potential, and the ability to mine it with ASIC was there. I think they released when they did to beat Obelisk to market, though (which is also why I think the machines are so buggy)...

I am getting very good result with windows claymore. 28.5 MH/S stable hash rate.
But i get only 23 mh/s with ethos.

https://prntscr.com/imnsah

How should i do the overclock?

Use the settings in your claymore stub in windows in your ethos config file instead.

You guys on here saying the A3 "sucks balls" and expressing skepticism about remaining profit need a reality check.  Currently the A3 is the most profitable ASIC on the market.  It makes $30 a day.  The S9 is making $10 and the L3+ is making $9.  X11 is making $1.50.  3 GTX 1080ti's are making under $10 on average.   Obviously this can all change and it will, but lots of doom and gloom for something that is doing so well.

There are different philosophies on this, but I think a lot of it comes from the fact that SIA doesn't have a maximum quantity cap, so while I do believe the price will go up from the current $.02USD, it doesn't have the same hodl appeal of other coins.
413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer A3 earning $500 a day mining SIAcoin . .WHAT?! Results & Stats on: March 04, 2018, 05:08:31 PM
I'm in it for the long haul on the A3, and don't like the temps getting above 80 degrees. Has anybody had any luck underclocking these to a decent level? I cant seem to keep the temp below 80 despite max fan speed.

In a nice cold garage btw

575 seems to be the goto for stability. If your temps are super high, reboot. Often rebooting at the same settings will, for some reason none of us can figure out, lower temps by up to 5C.

Hello guys, i'm thinking about buy 3 antminer A3. Problems are: they will be ship around the end of march (i mean, if they don't scam me...) and the difficult will be higher for that time.
If you were in me, will you do it? If not, why?
I still haven't bought anything, but planning to do it.

Any help and answer is VERY welcome, thanks
As far as I know bitmain is going to release ASIC ethereum miner. So I think this will be the next something like "sia attack". Ether with asic can have a great profit. (P.S I don't know that fact 100% sure, just heared here in some topics). If that's real, I think it worths to wait and put all money/effort in it.
On another hand would buy baikal giant miners if they are in stock or possible to buy.

ETH miners are already out, at least some people call them asics anyway.
Baikal are very expensive.

Ummm, link to an ETH asic? As far as I've known for, like, ever, it's a strictly GPU algo...

Have you tried installing it? Not sure it would work with the config file, but it may. Use the Linux install instructions.
417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building Cheap Miners : My "Secret" on: March 01, 2018, 05:46:48 PM
I've built a small miner myself too, without spending a whole fortune to do so. I'm using two AMD R7 260X (Overclocked from the factory) which I bought, used, for dirty cheap from Ebay (Something like $50-60 each). They don't feature high-end performance like the R9 Or Titan series but they have low power consumption (100-110 Watts on full load each). Therefore, having a high performance to power ratio.

I'm considering to purchase a few more of these in the future, depending on how well the GPU mining "industry" goes.

Thats not low power consumption lol at least not in 2018.

Agreed. My 1060s run at around 75W each, and my 1070s run 95-105...

boy i really gotta get around to learning how to mod my bios, my 4 rx580 rig is using like 700w  Cry

I use ethOS, so I do all my setting adjustments in the config files. But 580s run hot anyway, I can't get mine down below around 115 or so...
418  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ethOS - Ethereum Mining Platform on: March 01, 2018, 05:35:55 PM
I highly recommend the 1.3.0 upgrade (or upgrading miners independently). They upgraded all the miners; I'm getting +1-2/card on ethminer since the update...

If the profitability went from $500 a day to $40/day shortly after the first batch got plugged in, surely once the second batch goes live its not a huge stretch to go from $40/day to $1/day. Don't think its worth it for batch 2, within a day of receiving it it will be worthless...and that without even mentioning Obelisk...

Not quite how that works. Pretty much nobody earned $500/day, those were on paper numbers. I got mine early enough that I think I got $100 on the first day, but it was down to $50 day two.

Adding more to the network isn't the same as debuting on the network, ASICs blow GPUs out of the water, they change the dynamic of the network. Adding more just dilutes it a bit, but the initial launch exponentially drowned GPUs out.
