401  Economy / Speculation / Re: All this good news and yet the price doesn't budge on: May 30, 2014, 12:16:26 AM
The market is reacting badly to rumors of Bitstamp's impending collapse.

Merchant adoption and that sort of thing is priced in already.

I desperately hope that Bitstamp will not collapse,  but if it did, is it similar sized to Mt Gox, or bigger or smaller? I fear it would be the end for Bitcoin.

Impending collapse, you say?  A world leading exchange that not only imposes self-audits from 3rd parties every quarter, but also actively encourages other exchanges to do the same?

Ok.

I'm gonna quote myself, from earlier in this thread:

Quote
Notice that Mike Hearn, who did the last "audit", clearly stated that it was not an audit. He said the only thing he could confirm, was that Bitstamp still held around 189k BTC of their customers' funds. That's it.

And why should we trust him anyway? Oh, yeah, because he's from the Bitcoin Foundation, like Saint Mark Karpeles. Everyone in the Bitcoin Foundation are trustworthy, of course. They're incapable of doing evil.

And btw, they didn't show him (or anyone else) their fiat reserves. (If they have any left.) I wonder why ...   Roll Eyes

Yeah, saw that you're a newbish account here, and the majority of your thread responses are trollish and full of doom.  Guessing that you are a troll day trader.

Welcome to ignore.

Without addressing anything else, you're not really making a point here. You're just using ad hominem and attacking him personally rather than responding to what he said. So what of his comments on the "audit"?

DO NOT SEND ANYMORE BITCOINS TO STAMPS
What exchange do you use? I use stamp but I'm feeling like I want some more options right now.

I've used Kraken.com a couple of times and it went well. I think they're much keener on Euros than Dollars though.

What is this about? Why wouldn't we send coins to Stamp? Are they having some sort of issues that customers should know about? I haven't heard anything yet. Lips sealed
403  Economy / Speculation / Re: DISH Becomes World’s Largest Company to Accept Bitcoin. on: May 29, 2014, 05:48:14 PM
Awesome news. DISH network, Walmart selling miners, VC investment and infrastructure developments seems to be happening all the time -- it's time to get bullish on bitcoin. Cool
404  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 29, 2014, 05:46:29 PM
yesterday i did my biggest market buy ever.

feeling lucky.

LOL. Market buying......

I mean, do it when you gotta, when the train is clearly taking off without you...but I pretty much never hit the market order button. To each his own I guess.
405  Economy / Economics / Re: I think I found the perfect way to schedule a massive pump on: May 29, 2014, 05:45:27 PM
Market manipulation is the last thing we need. These stupid pump and dump schemes only hurt what this community is trying to accomplish.

Sure (and what OP suggested would not work at all anyway). BUT to some extent, and especially in a market with such low liquidity as bitcoin, there will naturally be sharks trying to fleece the inexperienced traders/investors.
406  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wallmart selling BTC miners?!??!?!?! on: May 29, 2014, 05:44:06 PM
Wow, that's awesome. I'm not super excited for a bunch of noobs to get fleeced buying crappy miners, but this would appear to be news of the bullish sort. Cool
407  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 29, 2014, 05:42:16 PM
Jeez, when are we gonna exit this sideways? Bollinger bands are getting pretty squeezed on the 4-hour, but it's been like that for a day now. Getting ancy!
408  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: May 29, 2014, 05:39:53 PM
i use some exchanges for alt-coin / BTC
like poloniex, and mintpal. recently i love europex feature Grin
nice interface but a bit heavy to loadng that website
for trade BTC/USD, i prefer BTC-e

What do you suggest between Poloniex and Mintpal? How do they compare with Cryptsy? I haven't tried many of the altcoin exchanges -- don't really trust them yet.

Glad you got it up and running. As another poster mentioned, these types of questions will probably gather more responses in one of the mining support sub-forum. Good luck!
410  Economy / Economics / Re: I think I found the perfect way to schedule a massive pump on: May 29, 2014, 12:41:13 AM
The pump game is stupid. Some people win (the guy that announces, and the first people in), but everyone else are just suckers.

The stupidest part is that the guy that announces doesn't even really play. He has already bought in and just cashes out after he announces.

Well, it's not really stupid for the pumper then, eh? Sounds like they are making out with a nice profit, buying at the bottom and selling to all the suckers on the way up.

This is the third time I've seen mention of this, but to be honest, I'm not sure what the situation is exactly. Could someone explain it to me in layman's terms? Smiley
412  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: May 29, 2014, 12:38:28 AM
The exchanges I trade on are as follows:
 - Bitstamp: Great volume, great customer service, good reputation.
 - Kraken: Excellent at everything except volume.
 - Bitfinex: Incredible trading options, not a lot of volume and fairly new on the scene.

Actually, Bitfinex has become one of the highest volume exchanges available, and is nearly comparable to Bitstamp. When you think about the fact that Bitfinex market orders can transact with Bitstamp limit orders, Bitfinex is actually quite big. You may or may not have noticed that over the past several days, some of the big market buys on Bitstamp were actually made on Bitfinex.

Any computer connected to the internet can be attacked. If you have enough to worry about get a laptop and never connect it to the internet.

I bought a cheap tablet solely for the purpose of generating addresses & making paper wallets. I did this offline & that tablet will never again be connected to the internet. I think that's about as safe as you can get.
I would think twice before doing this. There was some problem in the RNG on android, it allowed attackers to brute force the private key easily. It might be possible for another problem to surface, use an offline computer which will and have not connected to the internet.

I didn't use a RNG. I rolled dice & then put the resulting number in as a brainwallet passphrase. Does that mean my paper wallets are safe or are they still at risk due to this RNG problem on Android?

I don't know the specifics of this situation, but I took that to mean the "dice roll" is based on a faulty random number generator (RNG). So it can be cracked much more easily than if it were truly random.
414  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: May 29, 2014, 12:34:46 AM
I'm guessing november 2015.

That seems reasonable. I think we'll hit 5 figures sometime next year. This year is possible, but more and more people are expecting it. And that makes me think we will have to wait longer than most would like. Cheesy

when you find one, let me know. i'm not even a jr member yet! working on it... Undecided

You'll get to a member status veru quick. Just find some topick where you can write everything you know, go to he off-topic, you can find something there. Cheers!
Activity only increases 14 every two weeks, it would take some time for him.

Yeah, I think it's actually a decent system. Sure, it's a hassle, but if you really want to become part of the community here, a few weeks will fly by like nothing. On the other hand, if a spammer has to wait like, what, 8 weeks, to become a "member" and get a paid advertising gig, that's an effective deterrent.

I signed up with BTC-e last week and just sent in my verification to ANXPro today.  I was a little concerned that I made the right decisions for exchanges then I come here.  I feel better now that I know others are using them with good results.

I tried to verify with BitStamp but they kept returning me down and I could never get an answer as to what the problem was, I tried 3 times then told them I was talking my money someplace else.  I scanned and sent my electric bill and passport and can't imagine what the problem was.  I told them that the only paper bill I get is my electric and that if they checked my passport my middle name is on the electric bill.  Now I'm glad it worked out this way.

It's odd. I've heard this same situation reported many times. I can't imagine what the issue is. I got verified on the first try in a couple days sometime last year. I moved most of my trading to Bitfinex recently, though. But that was mainly just for arbitrage profit from BTC-E. I will move back to BTC-E when the spread between Bitfinex and BTC-E closes up again.
417  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dat volume on: May 28, 2014, 08:20:24 PM
Nice pump, volume back to normal = that means extremely low volume and still decreasing. The hype is over, average Joes are gone, have fun, bagholders. Nice try tho. BTC exchanges are dead, only bots trading on them and these bots only follow Huobi anyway.

lmao. We're still up ~25% in value from a couple weeks ago so why all the doom and gloom? In the face of all these positive developments and all the bullish signals suggesting another rapid run up in price this summer, you're still going to keep pushing this FUD?

You must be on someone's payroll? Perhaps the PBOC?

I'm curious what you mean by "all the bullish signals suggesting another rapid run up in price this summer"...like i know that lots of people are saying that. But what exactly are the bullish signals that make it so clear?

In the news articles (about bitcoin) a lot of infrastructure is being built around bitcoin (I could list numerous things I heard of and it wouldn't be a quarter of what I could remember)  Facebook guy going to bitgo (recent).  Winklevoss Trading Fund ("WTF" - jk)  numerous atms, etc

Its based (mainly) on speculation (like what bitcoin is used to).  I asked others why the summer.  Some said that it is when the winklevoss approve their ETF (we seen that their original bank had issues, lets see if they get it soon).

But there has obviously been lots of news around much infrastructure being built around bitcoin during this entire downtrend. So that reasoning seems pretty flat. I guess the Winklevoss thing maybe. June 2013 was a pretty rough time -- hopefully we don't see a repeat with all these high expectations!

i like fargo and all, but it just feels like something is missing.. some sort of charm that the cohen kind of work has. i just kind of wish some of the characters were mor quirky. malvo is a good character, but it feels to me that he is missing a depth to the character. we see him menacing around and harassing people, but what is his ethos? what does the show say about what his values are?

Ah, I forgot to check that out. Will get caught up shortly. Were the Coen brothers involved in the show? I didn't have the highest hopes, but it's nice to find something new to watch. Wasn't sure if this was just a mini series or a regular series either.

I wonder how many times I have been told that "bitcoin is dying" or "bitcoin is dead". So many, I could never count. The world is full of naysayers, and the honey badger just keeps on keeping on.
