401  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5870 just delivered, any tips? on: March 03, 2011, 09:43:10 AM
Tip: be careful with overclocking. I ran my 5770 at 975 MHz for a week (up from 850) and everything seemed to be fine. The GPU temperature never went above 90 degrees C, which I think is OK. (I'm a GPU n00b since I'm not a gamer.)

However, after shutting down my computer for a few hours yesterday, I'm now getting garbage pixels on the screen, and random "verification failed" errors when mining, at all clock speeds. Looks like I damaged the card. Sad

The main problem is cooling, not slot availability.  You need an empty slot next to each GPU so the fan can draw in cool air, unless you implement some sort of custom cooling solution.  That means each GPU effectively needs three slots, and ATX only gives you 7 total.  If those PCIe risers were tall enough and had holes in them...that might help.

There are also PCIe extenders with a ribbon cable. At least the x1 ones should be better for cooling, and they would also give more options for mounting the cards away from each other.

When will happen next difficulty increase?
See http://nullvoid.org/bitcoin/ for an estimate. Right now it looks like a 40% increase on Sunday evening (European time).

It seems that BPM daily graphs ("Your daily reward" and "System daily reward") are delayed 1 day now.

It would be hard to give you a daily total without the day being done. The totals for the day day is posted right as soon as  it is done, afaik.

Showing Feb 19th totals at this moment, that is 2 days ago.

I see the 20th. It's probably your browser cache or something...

Seems to not work so well for AMD processors?

Results on an AMD Sempron 3100+ (1.8 GHz):

jgarzik's miner: about 770 khash/sec
ufasoft's miner: "average Rate: 0.62 MHash/s"

At 620Kh/s, you will solve a block every 5 years, 37 weeks at the current difficulty.  Since difficulty will keep going up, you are likely to never actually solve a block on your own.

However, your expected return per hour is 50/50027, or .000999460 BTC/hour.

Mining at BitPenny at the current difficulty, you will solve one share on average every 1 hour and 55 minutes, 27 seconds, earning .00173091 BTC, the equivalent of about .0009 BTC/hour.

Hi, could you explain how you calculated these times?
