401  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chart analysis: 4 month chance for rally ahead !! on: September 15, 2011, 03:06:42 AM
My thoughts are that the downslide has taken much longer than the take off. This is a good sign because rising stocks always rise faster than they fall.
402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New alternate cryptocurrency - Geist Geld on: September 15, 2011, 03:00:41 AM
the high reject rate is because cgminer is ignoring "target" in getwork and just blindly sends every H==0 share. so at diff 100 you'll see a 99% reject rate.

So many questions. You can PM if you prefer not to take this offtopic but what is H==0?

403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Quantum Computing mean for Bitcoin? on: September 15, 2011, 02:42:47 AM
I would be more interested in what reversible computing may do for bitcoin.

Quite an extended downtime this time. Anyone able to find him in irc again?
405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DO you think doubleC should open an exchange for geistgeld w/ the btcexpress sit on: September 15, 2011, 12:16:14 AM

Started out like everybody else in 2009, with a CPU cranking out KH/s per sec not MH /s !!!

900 KH/s on a CPU

Sounds like a real rags to riches story and I'm very pleased for you. At the time I was running a LETS (part of the CES system) exchange and was interested in alternate currency I kind of knew about bitcoin but it got lost in list of all the other things that I knew about as well. I may have heard about it through openmoney.ning.com or something like that. Some girls had painted my van pink with house paint and I was working really hard trying to get all the pink off so I could put singage on my van to get more work for my call out computer repairs business. I had this nagging feeling the whole time that there was some kind of alternate currency that I should be getting instead of wasting my time trying to get the paint off my van. I didn't realise it was bitcoin though... I remember reading about how there was only going to be 21 million and I thought "that's not enough for all the worlds people" lol... ahhh well I've paid down half my debt by working in a shitty call centre job (which is ending soon) but there will be more opportunities in the future.

If i'd got into bitcoin early like you had i'd have paid down all my debts, bought (or more likely had a custom conversion) myself an electric car, and moved out of home possibly to house that I would have bought with bitcoin lol. Everything else would have gone to help build the rejuvepedia project but I had an idea for another project which I hope to launch soon. I tell myself that if I got rich from bitcoin I would have gone off in another direction and never the idea for this project and I think this project is going to change the world but its not about p2p currency its about open source wet ware and tissue engineering for the purpose of human rejuvenation.

I have a core concept and idea for a process that, although the biotech may be anything from 50-100 years away, (at least at current level of progress) will completely rejuvenate a human body in about 9 months.

To resolve this I say bitcoin express pledges X amount of coins go to a charity.

joulesbeef: I like that you are standing up on this one. I am a little pissed off but I just see it as natural selection and evolution. At least this exploit is not a 0day traded in closed circles that we didn't find about months after its been in a wild...

The next generation of alternate block chains will learn from the current generations and we will likely see multi-chaining and licensed mining (with licensed hash rate)  in the future in addition to these new security features. It may even be possible to have a steady block rate but fast transfer of coins.

I would like to see licensed mining applied to the problem of helping people pay off their green power generation equipment with the introduction of ecocoin. Mining is licensed and you must prove you have bought solar panels or wind turbines to get a license and your mining rig must be hooked up this equipment and not the traditional grid. e.g. if your solar panel produces enough to run a dual FPGA you are licensed to mine the mhash that dual FPGA produces. There will be some kind of smart meter to verify the solar panels are being used with a backup of "dob in a mate" if people start gaming that. If people are found to be gaming it they lose their license and are told to go back to mining BTC.

As it grows to things such as molten salt solar and wind generation for 24 hour power people will be able to generate eco coins and sell them to pay off their gear making the time to pay off the green energy much faster than it is currently.

People may occupy sections of otherwise dry barren desert land and setup parabolic and molten solar or geothermal there for the purpose of generating ecocoins. These coins can be sold to deliver ROI. These could be setup in developing nations and the proceeds used to help feed starving people such as in Somalia.

Their use as a currency will allow them to have a means of exchange to develop their local and sustainable economies.

Men that are brave enough to implement this (in underdeveloped nations) could find themselves with multiple wives if they so desire Wink

Well I have 8btc remaining there so its not the end of the world but it will come in handy.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pretty much same trading volume - Mt.Gox and Bitcoinica on: September 14, 2011, 12:52:12 PM
Bitcoinica will be a short time phenomena. It will last till people realize leverage makes absolutely no sense for trading bitcoins.
It only makes sense in the fiat forex market because is influences inflation. Big players use it there to benefit from micro-trading tactics.

I disagree. I think it will stay and there will be other services like it. I would like to see another service that uses the bitcoinica API to add an additional level of margin trading and short/long options on top of bitcoinica the same way bitcoinica sits on mtgox.

Additionally I'd like to be able to margin trade and short/long the alternate currencies.

Seems down for me still.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 20130 ixcoin please send some miners there. on: September 14, 2011, 05:20:23 AM
Well at the moment the IXcoin exchange has the following notice:
"A threat has been made on the bitcoin forums to rewrite the namecoin blockchain by obtaining more than 51% of the mining power. The same attacker has also threatened the other alternate chains. If they attack the chain and it succeeds it's possible for all your transactions to be lost. It's not possible for an exchange to operate in this environment. I suggest contacting BitcoinEXpress on the bitcoin forums if you have questions as they are coordinating the attack on the network. I'm closing the ixcoin deposits and withdrawals temporarily until the situation becomes clearer. The exchange is running a checkpointed ixcoin which should hopefully at least keep the existing coins and block chain intact during an attack.

Keep an eye on this part of the exchange for future updates about the situation. Hopefully the network can ward off any attack."

But the i0 coin exchange doesn't.

Would have been a nice idea if any of these currencies was actually a nice little hedge against inflation but sadly its not to be.
412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 20130 ixcoin please send some miners there. on: September 14, 2011, 04:59:45 AM
hm I panic sold my 40k i0 coins when I found out about the time stamp exploit... was I too hasty?
413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Namecoin attack threat - Please withdraw your Namecoins ASAP on: September 13, 2011, 11:23:38 AM
This place has really gone down hill since IXcoin. It's accelerating to a kind of singularity but one where the man on the street is going the way of the dodo.

I think the next alternate block chain project is going to require licensed mining.

Yeah if you want to do a double spend attack do it on a testnet. I think namecoin has a testnet.

You can short on Bitcoinica. I know because I have a negative BTC position. I don't know which way the market is going to go i'm just trying it out.

PM'd MrMoon asking if they would like to issue a site press release / announcement via BitcoinMedia.com regarding the site, just as an alternate venue to speak on any site issues or the future, as sometimes it seems like when people try and have good intentions on these forums, they will get shit on no matter what

Thank you.

well, is there any message from him then?

Not as yet but it would be nice if he made a statement.
