4001  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Mixed Lot: Ballet PURE Signature Set / Casascius Key / Alpencoin DIY on: February 09, 2023, 05:25:19 AM
That is interesting...was never aware they graded Mike's paper wallets from his coins!

Nice artifacts indeed...I only wish they someday get to grade my coins and have Jumbo slabs to fit them in  Wink

I agree. This is the first time I’ve seen a paper wallet from Casascius that has been graded, or even being offered for sale in any form. Makes you realize just how special those coins are. I’ve never peeled one so it’s always interesting to see what’s under the hologram.
4002  Economy / Goods / Re: ~ Buying a TESLA CYBERTRUCK with BITCOIN ~ on: February 09, 2023, 03:20:51 AM
I have one "big" problem with the TESLA cybertruck, its only reminds me a lot to the Simpsons when Homer knows his brother and he desing one car for the company he own, and it was a complete failure.  Cheesy

Lets see how this ended and how good or bad its in the streets.

But the price.... man its really expensive.
I dont give a shit about this new electro cars only for rich people, they come with the spell of save the world of the evil old cars, but the news are nobody can afford one...

As a longtime fan of The Simpsons (before they got woke) I’m familiar with that episode and think there’s a massive fundamental difference between Homer’s monstrosity and the Cybertruck. Homer’s car had tons of stuff added on and was extremely complicated. The Cybertruck has removed so many parts and doesn’t even have a traditional frame. It’s built “like hot wheels cars” and is more simplified than other vehicles. So it’s like the opposite of your example. Smiley
4003  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: When to sell bitcoin before the next bear market starts? on: February 09, 2023, 02:55:29 AM
If you believe in the 4-year cycle and think it is the single most important factor for Bitcoin’s price as I do, then you should probably be thinking about selling sometime in Q3 of 2025. While the news cycle seems to control the daily price movements, the 4-year cycle is what controls the price for real. I stay away from trading tiny movements from the news cycle. Others should as well.
4004  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 09, 2023, 02:28:20 AM
The video going around showing Anthony Davis sitting down and not caring about LeBron breaking the record and then later LeBron on the bench telling a visibly disturbed Davis that he loves him, only to be seemingly rebuffed has me starting to believe a KD for AD trade with the Nets is a possibility. Could one of the biggest trades in NBA history be happening in the next 24 hours? Starting to appear possible.
Wow, I had absolutely no idea that there was a possibility like this. I guess everyone was focused on Kyrie deal and I didn't even notice this possibility at all. I always thought Lebron and AD has a good relationship both on and off the court. AD might have been seen less than enthusiastic at that moment but I don't expect any issue between them. When healthy, AD always contributes as much as he can and I think everyone would agree that he is a great player and maybe one of the top players in the league. But I can't stress it enough: 'healthy'. We have an excited day ahead of us about the trades. Can't wait the see the surprises.

We’ll see. It seems like there is too much talk about something happening for nothing to happen, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Still, I’m on high alert for something big in the next 24 hours. The only troublesome part is that there are so many rumors, you don’t know what’s real and what is wishful thinking. No matter what happens though, I’m pretty sure Durant won’t be suiting up in a Nets uniform next season.

4006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do small e-commerce businesses are scared of accepting crypto payments? on: February 08, 2023, 06:42:21 PM
Just today when dealing with a small business online to order some replacement parts for a hobby of mine, I reached out to the owner of the business asking him if he was willing to accept crypto for payment.  The amount was small, only around $50, but the business owner responded that they don't accept crypto and aren't willing to look into it.  I think this is a pretty common reaction and one I'm quite familiar with.  I recall offering payment in crypto to all sorts of people in the past and it's rare they are willing to accept Bitcoin.  I should be thankful, as I remember one time in particular I offered someone dozens of BTC for a $300 payment and they refused.  I wonder if they have nightmares about that now.

...if you buy a loaded collectible from someone, they can rug you....

Eliminating everything else that has to be expanded to ANYONE WHO HAD IT IN THEIR POSSESSION FOR A PERIOD OF TIME CAN RUG YOU.

Sorry but it's true. I posted this a while ago: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5401502

And without being an ass to everyone who made coins with holograms. Do you really think it would be impossible to find a maker of holograms that would duplicate the ones made by you? Lets get real, with the amounts involved with some of the coins spending a bunch of money to duplicate some of the more popular makers would not be that big an expense considering the rest would be buying the coins and reselling them after making copies of the private key.

THEN you wait. THEN you cash in. And all evidence would point to the maker even more so if you bought and sold under various alt accounts. No one person to tie it back to.
Yes it could probably be figured out eventually but good luck proving that in any definitive way.

Just my view.

-Dave

This will be the next big scam in the hobby!  Someone is undoubtedly already doing this imo.  I think the kicker will be that they have the physicals graded to add more confidence for the buyers & when corn hits ATH’s again… sweepin time!  And no one will find the scammer until the dust has settled. Imagine trying to tie chain of ownership to multiple items & makers to find the culprit 😱

The only solution to this sort of attack is to make sure you buy from the maker directly.  Resales of private key loaded collectibles is a dangerous game and this community has been lucky so far in this area.  My assumption is that 1) a lot of people who scam can't afford to get custom holograms made or 2) aren't willing to risk their money making holograms that may be detectable.

The bottom line is that you should purchase directly from a maker and you should trust that the maker won't scam you.  If you wouldn't send a BTC to the maker and feel certain that they would send it back, don't buy products from them with a private key associated.  Having a longstanding reputation doesn't hurt either.  For example, my 12 year reputation providing goods and services here without losing so much as a satoshi for any customer is worth far more than whatever I could scam here (even with the trolls doing their best to cast doubt in my direction).  There is a place you can still buy directly from a maker who has been selling coins with private keys for more than 10 years without any issues.  Smiley  https://nastyfans.org/mint
4008  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: how many times have you intended to stop gambling on: February 08, 2023, 05:48:16 PM
I think if you want to stop you need to stop, i know this sound like the same with other words, but not.

If your mind and body tell you from the inside STOP no matter for what (most probably for losing money, or maybe time), you need to quit the gambling and re think all yourself and life, because you were hooked and you can fall more.

Clearly. If you want to stop doing something and continue doing it, you definitely have a problem. I think a lot of people lean on addiction to explain their problems as well, but to me that’s a cop out. Nobody forces you to do things you don’t want to do. If you keep gambling when you know you should stop then you are just a weak minded individual who lets their greed control them. Just quit cold turkey if you need to. Quit listening to people who sympathize with what you’re going for a take some responsibility for your actions.
4009  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 08, 2023, 05:45:40 PM
Interesting to read that if Conor McGregor wins his next fight he’ll immediately be given a title shot. I don’t blame the UFC for making his path incredibly easy given that he’s their cash cow, but I imagine a lot of fighters are going to be angry about this and want to take Conor’s head off as a result. He’s going to have a hard time on this next run I think. Not sure he’s going to become champion ever again. I wouldn’t want to be the first guy to face him in his comeback though.
4010  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 08, 2023, 04:24:16 AM
With 20 points at halftime it’s looking like LeBron is going to break the record tonight. When they were showing all the celebrities in the house for the game I had a feeling I was going to be wrong. After missing his first two shots he’s been on fire. 16 points in a half is still no small feat, but I feel like he’s got a chance to get it done. Hopefully he can find a way to get a win also.
4011  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Our prayers and supplications are with the people of Turkey and Syria. on: February 07, 2023, 08:16:12 PM
That was a heartbreak earthquake. Footage of the incident live really shows how disaster out it was. I can’t imagine living somewhere that this could happen. So many buildings built to not withstand Mother Nature. I half expected this thread to be littered with conspiracy theories about how this could be a response to them getting f16s, but I guess it’s still early. Prayers to the citizens of Turkey and Syria.
4012  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: February 07, 2023, 08:13:24 PM
Here are my picks for today's game

Orlando MagicVS New York Knicks

The stake odds for this game are 2.00 for the Magic and 1.85 for the Knicks, right now Chuma Okeke can not play for the Magic, Mitchell Robinson can not play for the Knicks, and R.J. Barrett is questionable if he can play for the Knicks, fairly enough it can be a close game, and I don't really trust the Knicks right now so I would go with the Orlando Magic, I will go to the slight underdog,

New Orleans Pelicans VS Atlanta Hawks

The stake odds for this game are 1.90 for the Pelicans and 1.95 for the Hawks, right now Zion Williamson, Dyson Daniels, and E.J. Liddell cannot play for the Pelicans, while Jonas Valanciunas and Brandon Ingram are both questionable if they can play for the Pelicans, while the Atlanta Hawks doesn't have any injuries, for this match, because of the number of injuries and doubtful players I will go with the Atlanta Hawks this time,

Brooklyn Nets VS Phoenix Suns

The stake odds for this game are 2.95 for the Nets and 1.42 for the Suns, right now Seth Curry, and Kevin Durant can not play for the Nets, and T.J. Warren, Spencer Dinwiddie, Ben Simmons, Dorian Finney-Smith are all doubtful if they can play for the Nets, while Cameron Payne, Landry Shamet, and Jae Crowder can not play for the Suns, even though many are doubting the Nets right now I still see a bright future for them, because of 2 players I will not take the side of the underdog, my pick is the Brooklyn Nets,

Los Angeles Lakers VS Oklahoma City Thunder

The stake odds for this game are 1.39 for the Lakers and 3.15 for the Thunders, Right now LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Austin Reaves are all questionable if they can play for the Lakers, while Luguentz Dort and Aleksej Pokusevski can not play for the Thunders and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is questionable if he can play for the Thunders, but for this game, I think the Lakers could capitalize that doubtful players and may still use them in a proper rotation, so my pick is the Los Angeles Lakers,

As a lifelong diehard Chicago Bulls fan, I'm pretty shocked to see that I didn't even realize that Scottie Pippen Jr is currently playing in the NBA on the LA Lakers.  I had no idea that he was drafted already and good enough to play in the league.  Learn something new every day I guess.

That said, I'm in agreeance with the Lakers taking out the Thunder as well as covering the spread.  With Lebron James being only 36 points away from the all time scoring record, I can see them really turning things up and putting a whoopin on the Thunder.

Ya, I believe the Lakers not only grabbed Scottie Pippen’s son (while MJ’s son grabbed Scottie Pippen’s ex-wife) but also Shaquille O’Neal’s son, but I believe Shaq’s son wasn’t good enough to make the roster. Not sure where he ended up but I recall both their sons in Lakers uniforms playing in the preseason if I’m not mistaken.

I don’t think LeBron gets the record tonight. I think he saves it for Thursday so it’s definitely happening and fans can make sure to plan for it. If he got it tonight I think there would be people who missed it because statistically he should only score 31 tonight.
4013  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Killer of old video cards from Bitmain on: February 07, 2023, 08:09:44 PM
There will be another coin for GPU miners I’m sure. The amount of money that’s been dumped into GPU mining is so high that those in need of an ASIC-free coin will create their own if necessary. More likely they’ll move to RVN or maybe fork a different coin to become ASIC-proof. i doubt the GPU mining community will just collectively decide to give up and list all their hardware on eBay.
4014  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 07, 2023, 06:29:31 PM
...

Now that Jay Powell has made his latest remarks (and pumped various markets some, inc. BTC)

The market response to his comments was huge.  Volume spiked to the highest we've had in a while and underscored the bullishness in this market currently.  It seems like investors reacted positively across the board as stocks also saw a massive jump on high volume.  I worry a little bit that the recent jobs report has misled the Fed, or maybe it was manipulated so that they don't look so incompetent if we do go into a recession, as they can blame the data.  As someone who was watching markets closely as all of this played out in 2007, I would say to keep your finger close to the sell button (on your stocks) should things quickly get worse and the word default starts getting thrown around more.
4015  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: February 07, 2023, 05:28:08 PM
I’m reading about a ChatGPT jailbroken version called DAN which stands for do anything now. This version will do things the regular version won’t, like discuss aliens, write about violence, or even say nice things about Republicans or white people. It’s like the non-censored non-woke version. There are some pretty awesome responses when compared with the regular ChatGPT. We might not be doomed for AI woke oppression after all.

Anyway, I bet that version would tell you who will win sporting events…
4016  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any thoughts about NFT? on: February 07, 2023, 04:08:29 PM
NFTs are suffering from an oversupply problem. The barrier of entry to release an NFT project is way too low, resulting in scams and abandoned projects. This is why functionality is important. When thinking about buying an NFT (or any crypto in general) ask yourself why you need it. What added functionality does it bring to your life? If the answer is none, it’s probably a worthless NFT or shitcoin. Don’t buy things you can’t or don’t need to use for anything. This will save you from losing lots of money.
4017  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is getting ready for $25K, How? on: February 07, 2023, 04:03:28 PM
The market still feels extremely bullish. We barely even got a pullback after the near 50% increase which to me signals that there’s lots more buying to come. I’m sure those that are scooping up coins are trying to do it at the lowest price possible, but it feels to me like they’re going to soon run out of sellers and will be forced to buy up a block and push the prices up beyond $25K.
4018  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: February 07, 2023, 04:01:31 PM
Anybody else think it’s a little strange that Jake Paul already has his next fight lined up and he hasn’t even fought Tommy Fury yet? Is that normal in boxing? It seems strange to me that it doesn’t really matter who wins or loses this Paul/Fury fight if the next event with KSI is already lined up. This will probably fuel the fire of a conspiracy that all of Jake Paul’s fights are rigged. I don’t believe that for whatever it’s worth.
4019  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 07, 2023, 03:59:03 PM
Looks like TNT decided to pickup tonight’s Lakers game just in case LeBron does break the record. Personally, I think he goes for 30 tonight and leaves the record for Thursday, but seeing that tonight’s game was moved to TNT leaves the chance that it could happen tonight. Statistically speaking, odds are that he will be about 6 points shy after tonight’s game, but I’ll be watching just in case.
4020  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 06, 2023, 07:42:04 PM
The funny thing I just realized about all this stuff is that Kyrie could have requested this trade at any time but he chose to do it the week that LeBron is about to break one of the most coveted records in sports.  I think maybe he was feeling a bit like he wasn't the center of attention for a second and had to do what he had to do to try and get himself in the news cycle.  Maybe that's just coincidence, but with Kyrie nothing is off the table.

Looks like the Suns are also trying to get in on the Durant sweepstakes as well, offering Chris Paul and some others for KD.  The fireworks might not be done yet!
