It was looking pretty likely in 2013 that these guys were going down. Thus:
- Something like 0.001 BTC.
- Something like $4.00
I did take go ahead and put some of my draw-down in the form of a risk. Thus:
- A $5k wire from mid Aug 2013
- Identity docs - Value to me: ~$10k
The wire is fairly inconsequential. The value was chosen to be enough to warrant some sort of action if it was a loss but otherwise relatively small compared to my other activities.
The identity docs, on the other hand, hurt! If Karpeles loses/sells them to criminals he'll be a life-long enemy and I'll happily absorb an expense to see him and gaybauchery suffer. If he simply hands my documents over to my government (U.S.) that is acceptable since I recognize that he'll have no realistic choice and I expected that he was probably already under that pressure when I sent them (shortly before requesting my wire.)
mtgox is based in Tokyo and they were not managing their business well but do you really think someone from the company could sell our identity documents?? It seems unlikely since it would be a huge crime and the guy who sold them could be found Do people actually buy identity documents?? I wonder how much it can cost |

I have noticed since the Mt Gox situation gained steam then blew up that confirmations are taking longer in the Bitcoin system in general. This has slowed payouts from many sites.
Keeping a positive thought on MakeBTC.org, here's hoping the site is simply waiting for the appropriate number of confirmations before it cycles. That would be a standard precaution. Most sites show the deposit after 1-2 of 3 or more confirmations though don't allow access until all are received.
Though I have no other insight, I thought I'd share my observations and analysis. Mr BTC, please clarify if you kindly would when you have a moment. I'm thinking/hoping at the moment you are overseeing the cycle itself. As would be appropriate.
Of course makeBTC wants to control that everything is fine before we pass next bank or maybe it is automatic after the last deposit received a certain number of confirmations makeBTC definitely controls before withdraws This could just be someone depositing 5BTC, it seems huge, it is crazy; if the website get advertised and if the rules change in order to keep the deposits coming we can still go way further than bank18; I remember people saying it was over when we were bank13 |

Yup, definitely early days still. Every technological innovation goes through a growing phase. This is essentially just year 5 of something most of us believe will be here awhile. Once Gox is gone for good, you can believe 2014 will be another banner year. Indeed everything is possible and we will see what will happen.... But sure is one thing 2014 will be a year of Bitcoin! That is what we are all hoping for : 2014 being a huge year for Bitcoin but there has been a lot of bad news so the sentiment in the community is pretty bad The price has been resisting during the mtgox fiasco so when it is all over we should go higher and higher because a lot of new people are getting involve in Bitcoin everyday and the system is still improving and gaining adoption 31/12/2014 1BTC=3241$ |

sentiment and past patterns seem to indicate we are at (or at least near) the bottom.
it is amazing how the pattern keeps repeating.
Patterns keep repeating because traders are looking at previous patterns and bet accordingly so it is self-fulfilling I wouldn't be surprise to see an other correction before a huge rally, something big, but maybe BTC in stronger than I think and we will not be this huge correction |
