4021  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will there be no more topics to write about? on: December 08, 2021, 08:01:07 AM
I don't know what this thread is doing in the B&H section.
To be honest, this thread is an example of what OP is talking about, thread that is opened when you don't know what to write about, but open a thread just for the sake of it.

@OP asking this question is like asking  "should we stop talking because I think (wrongly) that everything on every topic has been said already. Forum is  mean of communication, so as long people have urge to communicate, they will make new topics. After all, crypto industry is incredibly fast paced and there are so many things going on at the moment. So no, we won't lack good topics to talk about, we may only lack quality members to communicate with.
4022  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: December 08, 2021, 07:53:37 AM

Cheesy
4023  Other / Meta / Re: If the signature campaings are removed from the forum, will you stay or leave? on: December 08, 2021, 07:32:51 AM
I haven't joined for signature campaigns and for sure wouldn't leave this forum because of them. Beside this one, I am active on several other forums for ~20 years, wrote tens of thousands of free posts so I would continue to do the same, but I would probably post less, whether I want it or not.

I am aware of the fact that every forum has very active members who will write no matter what, but those are few and far between. Thing is, majority of people would have to reduce their posting frequency simply because if you remove all posts&threads made by those that are here only because of the money, there would be less posts to answer to. In order to be very active, you need other people and if you don't have that, what to do other than post less.

Let's say they stop allowing signatures, what would be the backlash of that? Well for starters, forum traffic drops by 90%. That means forum ads lose their appeal to businesses. Also leading to no income for the forum, ultimately leading to the forum closing down after a period of time. That's what I think would happen anyways. There will be a few happy members of course, but there will be no reason to keep the forum open for the 100 or so users left.
Yep, nicely summed up. As much as we all hate sig spammers, signature campaigns pros simply outweigh the cons. Theymos and other forum staff are aware of that so I am pretty certain that signature campaigns are not going anywhere, at least not in the foreseeable future.

The issue IMO is the poor quality of the posters in these campaigns. That's really on the manager. If you have a poor quality poster, then remove them and let someone worthy take their place. I have been guilty of letting douchebags in a campaign because I had a large number of open spots, so maybe I have no room to talk but I can acknowledge the problem and do my part in fixing it.
When it comes to replacing shitty posters with better ones, I don't think that you or any other manager can do much about it (unless you increase rate), because there are simply not enough quality members to fill the need of all ongoing signature campaigns, let alone new ones. So even if you want to replace shitposter, most likely you will end up getting the same thing. At the moment, every decent member that wants to be in signature campaign is already part of one (except during that short period when some good campaigns ends so they have to look for another one).

What managers could do though is for example is not set the fixed amount of posts that participants have to make or at least make low minimum requirement so people are not forced to write anything when they don't feel like/don't have time as forced posting in majority of cases leads to redundant posts and that's something that we don't lack of here on bitcointalk.

Another solution is for managers to say to their potential clients that unless they wan't to fill signature campaign with spammers and shitposters, they will have to pay way more than average campaign is paying at the moment (50-60 USD) or have very attractive rules. I might be wrong with my assumption, but somehow I think that doesn't happen often.
4024  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can we talk about airdrops? on: December 07, 2021, 10:41:54 PM
Airdrops today has moved to giving tokens to users of certain protocols; which is a lot better if you ask me(far less spamming everywhere).
Yep those actually make sense, as you are rewarding those that are actually using your platform. Due several quality airdrops like Uniswap and ENS, people nowadays started to using just about anything, like doing 2-3 trades on any shitty dex just in case they decide to do an airdrop. I have couple of friends (that have higher six figure number in crypto) but still doing those, in hope that another Uniswap-like airdrop will happen.
4025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No..Craig Wright Was NOT Named Bitcoin's Creator on: December 07, 2021, 10:35:02 PM
I really wonder why anyone gives this man any attention at all. It should be known that he is definitely not Satoshi.
The proof would be easy to make, but he can't. So he isn't. This smear theater he's putting on doesn't do justice to the real Satoshi.
To be honest, that guy shouldn't  even be mentioned on this forum as what he wants and enjoy in is attention. And if we can tell anyiting about Satoshi and the way he tied to keep his privacy, he obviously wanted as little attention as possible. Therefore, conclusion about CSW is obvious.
4026  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Source Aplication for Local Board Indonesia- skarais on: December 07, 2021, 06:37:41 AM
The following is a history of merit transaction (sender and recipient) of the Local Board Bahasa Indonesia
When it comes to amount of people that are part of Indonesian "merit circle (merit/senders receiver) Indonesian board numbers are quite bigger than of the other local boards with the similar amount of merit shared (Portuguese, French, Arabic) and on par with some other boards with much bigger amount of shared, so that may be another indication that there is an actual need for more merits shared. Just to add that when it comes to merit senders/receivers, October 2021 wasn't an exception as this has been going on for some time now.

My assumption is that the statistics were generated thanks to the contribution of one of our moderators (dbshck). I just remembered that he was one of the most generous users a while ago. Right now for some reason he no longer maintained his achievement. Maybe he's busy outside.
It's perfectly normal for people to make a break from forum every once in a while. I've been active on various forums since the late 90s/early 00s and every couple of years I had a break as simple after some time you get fed up, or simply RL becomes too hectic. The only "problem" here is if you are merit source as that can affect whole board, like in this case happened with Indonesian (and many others) so every once in a while it's not a bad idea to promote couple of new merit sources.
4027  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Source Aplication for Local Board Indonesia- skarais on: December 06, 2021, 10:18:24 AM
Looking at Indonesian post activity and amount of merit shared, there is definitely room for improvement, merit/post wise. ~Year and a half ago Indonesian board used to have one of the highest merit/post ratios among all locals, and now is among those with lower ratio, albeit it has been increasing in the last few months.

Whether that sharp drop was caused by reduced post quality I don't know, but somehow I doubt that. Maybe to some extent, but most likely one of the causes is merit sources going afk, or just not beign as active as before.

Either way, good luck with your application buddy.

I also wonder how Theymos will do it in this case, because I guess he won't know Indonesian.
I guess the same way he promoted bunch of other local board merit sources. It's not like this is a first local board merit source application ever.

Cestitke, upao sam i ja Smiley.

4029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to my Bitcoin when I die? on: December 05, 2021, 06:58:34 PM
Well, unless you set some fail-safe plan (for example giving your seed phrase to trusted persons) that Bitcoin you owned will be lost forever. And my guess is that is happening more often than we might think as people rarely think about that.

I personally sorted that in a way that several close family members have access to my cold wallet info, and an instructions who to contact (since they know little about Bitcoin and wouldn't be able to sort it out by themselves ) to help them out.
4030  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: December 05, 2021, 06:30:22 PM
Lol!
I have my “slaking” threshold setted for the first day of the week after the first week after the first weekend (aka, the second Monday after the first Friday of the month).
So no pinging @rikafip before checking calendar December 13th
That was exactly my goal with all these delays and something I learned long time ago when I started working; you don't wanna push yourself too much because people will expect more from you than from those that are slacking. Set the bar low and enjoy Cheesy

Now I can casually release overview in the 2nd part of the month, without people wondering why. And if by some miracle I manage to make it within reasonable time frame (first 10 days of month), people will be pleasantly surprised.

Work in progress.

4031  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Bitcoin vs Ethereum on: December 03, 2021, 01:39:10 PM

4032  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Bitcoin vs Ethereum on: December 03, 2021, 01:15:39 PM

4033  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Bitcoin vs Ethereum on: December 03, 2021, 12:30:14 PM

4034  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lack of NFT technology on: December 01, 2021, 06:58:35 PM
This is my point, WoW Token is not "play to earn", it's a way to get subscription for free if you have time to grind, and a way to get gold if you have money (which I would say is bad, because what's the point of having things that require time and effort, but can be bypassed with money? it really cheapens their value in the community).
While maybe it's not tehnically "play to earn", it's not that far away from it. Remember situation before WoW token was implemented? People were farming gold which they were selling to gold resellers. And then those gold resellers would sell the gold to those that have some extra cash and lacked the time. While doing so, shit load of people got scammed or even worse, lost their account due breaking TOS. I still remember my guildie (that was playing the game since beta) loosing an account back in 2008 over measly 100 GBP worth of gold he bought as he didn't have time to farm it and all he wanted was that chopper mount.

So yeah, I say better have stuff like that implemented in-game, than let 3rd parties profit from it because if game is popular enough, they will show up.
4035  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: December 01, 2021, 04:36:04 PM
This is only meant to make future updates slower better!
The amount of tension and stress while posting these updates will soon be unbearable.
Time to delegate to a proper AI!
I simply have to stop rushing with these updates so I don't make any similar mistakes in the future. So, you can expect the next monthly update with a little bit bigger delay than usual so I have enough time to double check everything.  Cheesy

Take your time bro. Your charts help us a lot. it's helping us to find out where we have to improve more.
Glad to hear that you find my charts useful. By the way, merit per local board and merit/post ratio charts have been updated with the correct data. Regarding the merit senders/receivers data for Bangladesh board; if you can manually check that out at the end of each month and give me the data, I  can add that one as well.

4036  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: December 01, 2021, 01:33:27 PM
https://www.konzum.hr/novosti/novo-konzum-klik-webshop-placanje-kriptovalutama

4037  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: December 01, 2021, 08:20:23 AM
Sorry to bother you. I am here again. I was trying to share your stats on my local board and ask them to be more active. But, I am pretty much Puzzled. IDK, if it's your mistakes or my miss understanding. I Checked All the posts made on Bangladesh Thread in October and counted the Merit (From Locals only). It was 13 Merits from locals.

But, As per your charts, it's showing 2 merit's on the Bangladesh thread - Number Of Merits Per local board.
You are right, I made a mistake ( I mixed Bulgarian and Bangladesh merit data as they were right next to each other). I just double checked the data and during October 12 merits were shared on Bangladesh thread. I will adjust the chart when I get some time as if I make that small change on the chart, all the other boards for some reason change the color.

And, Same on Merit per post ratio,
Yeah I will adjust that as well.

Also, Checked Merit senders and receivers per local board. and Bangladesh is missing. I guess Bangladesh is still a thread, not a board. this could be the reason. but, I would like to hear from you.
Yep, I have that data only for the local boards.

No offense, Just For info. I hope you won't mind it.
As I already told you couple of time, feel free to correct me anytime you find something wrong.
4038  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lack of NFT technology on: December 01, 2021, 07:50:49 AM
When Diablo III was released, it featured real money auction house for all in-game items, and while some players made a lot of money from it, the majority of the community hated it and it was soon removed.
True, Diablo 3 RMAH ended up as a failure.

Most of the gamers are not interested in making money from games, in fact they are very much against the trading of gameplay items - if you played WoW, you know how much the community hates gold sellers.
While it's true that some are not interested in making money from games, there are plenty of those that are interested in spending money for stuff in game. Regarding community hating gold sellers, seems like you and I played a different game. People hated those that were exploiting the game via bots and hacks, while huge amount of people were buying and selling gold. Hell, interest for gold was so huge (despite numerous bans) that in the end Blizzard started doing for what once they perma banned players -  selling people gold in exchange for money, while in the same time those that farmed gold can exchange it for gametime, and even sell Blizzard games (that part is breaking TOS, but it's still a popular way to cash out).

Now imagine if Blizzard turned their WoW token into a blockchain token - now there's suddenly an extra huge incentive to run bots, scam people, hack accounts, etc. because there's an easy way to turn in-game money into real money.
Did implementation of WoW tokens brought more hacks and bots? If it wasn't for that change, subscription numbers would be down by like 50% and instead they are making shit load of money by pushing (to some degree as those still exist) gold resellers out.

But I believe this model isn't even profitable, because it pushes players away from the game.
Not necessarily, if economy part of the game implemented well. The one I hope will done that right is Gold Fever so you might wanna check it out as closed beta should come out by the end of the year. When it comes to GF, I am mostly interested in making passive income by investing in certain things as in the last few years I don't have time anymore to play any games. Unfortunately.
4039  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lack of NFT technology on: November 30, 2021, 10:55:38 PM
"Play to earn" will never be popular, a large precentage of gamers are middle class people who absolutely don't need to collect pennies for hours of repetetive tasks.
As someone who played several  games at the very competitive level (World of Warcraft) and games with complex economy (EVE Online) and made very decent amount of money with both of those, I say that you are wrong there. Anyway, time will tell regarding play to earn concept and in the end, play to earn is more than just some mindless grind for pennies.
4040  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lack of NFT technology on: November 30, 2021, 04:56:30 PM
OK so the gaming industry is slow but I don't think it's that slow play to earn is probably something that'll take a while to come out, most mmo games ban you from selling stuff anyway in their terms (I think it requires extra licensing).
Yep, majority of AAA mmo games like World of Warcraft ban you from selling in-game stuff and services for RL money, but market for that is huge and is not really stopped by that restriction as people do it anyway, so there is a huge demand for a proper play to earn system.

It's true that things are moving somewhat slow; Steam (biggest game store) recently banned all crypto/NFT games from their platform, in fear since CS:GO skin gambling fiasco, but on the other hand Epic (another major game developer and publisher) is "open to games that support cryptocurrency or blockchain-based assets" on their upcoming store so things are moving nevertheless. And if Epic starts making shit load of money that way, I have no doubts that Steam will change their mind and figure out the way to accept those as well.

As an old school gamer who always liked economy part of the game, I must say that I am really looking forward to day where you can legally made serious money while playing proper games (unlike that Alien Worlds, Axie Infinity and Alice crap) without breaking TOS or competing at the highest e-sport level.
