470 runs around 26@120
480 runs around 29@135

Theoretically its possible to run 470 at 28, but it requires hardcore mem OC and not many cards can handle it 24/7.

my powercolor red dragon 470 4 GB single fan does a hair over 29 mhz on eth with the 1750 strap mod.  1200/2100 -75mv. 24/7 stable. no idea of the power draw at the wall though but gpuz says 85 watts for the chip only. it is undervolted and underclocked core wise.

need samsung memory is the main thing for the 470 29+ club.

if it were really a concern adding 10-20 kilowatts of electric heaters for 10 or 20 mins before firing them up would fix it. be cheap to add i would think.
4023  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Do you feel part of a crypto community ? on: January 20, 2017, 12:02:58 PM
sure.

i keep up with the news and research stuff best i can, time being the limiting factor.

mine, trade on occasion, spend where i can, buy items from members.

cant code it, but i can use it.

may be in a minor way compared to others, but i do what i can.
4024  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: driver relive + bios moded on: January 19, 2017, 05:39:49 PM
why would you want to? relive drivers have (or at least had) 5-10 percent worse performance in mining than pre relive drivers.
4025  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Maximum RX 480 Memory Clock on: January 19, 2017, 05:36:58 PM
I cannot possibly find any concrete information as to the highest achievable overclock which is deemed safe on 480s equipped with Samsung memory modules.

Any insight would be helpful.

stock clocks... just sayin.  Grin

thought i saw someone running memory @ 2250 with modded straps on eth.

look around for bios mod threads.
4026  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Smallest hardware that mines Ethereum, Zcash, Monero on: January 19, 2017, 05:33:53 PM
I am asking for the "smallest" so to be able to placed inside a rack
pandaminer will not fit in a 19" rack unless you get creative ( 2 of them sideways maybe?)
4027  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Creating BTC Wallet Cold Storage Site [Need Price Estimate] on: January 19, 2017, 02:46:25 PM
this idea makes no sense to me.

cold storage means having nothing to do with anything online, and having your private keys 100% under your control.
4028  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buyer Beware - MSI RX 470 Quality on: January 19, 2017, 11:12:37 AM
I have 24 of the MSI 470s and they are my favorites, I actually prefer them over the Sapphire 480/8GB variants which I have as well.

My latest batch of MSI 470s (4GB) have Samsung memory.  You didn't take the 1500 strap and copy it up and expect it to clock at 2k on Samsung memory did you?

On my MSI 470s with Samsung VRAM I copied the 1750 strap to the 2000 range and I am running them at 1150/2100 and I am getting 29.3Mh/s out of them rock stable.

hmm i  messed up then. have a powercolor 470 4 gb  red devil dragon single fan 470 with samsung mem. copied the 1500 strap up (oops) and run it at 1300/1850 for 26.5 mhs. mining eth.

gonna redo it with the 1750 strap and run the mem up to 2000 or so and see what happens.

Dont waste your time.  You wont be happy with the performance if you copy 1750 straps on a 470 4gb.... I've tried it... gives like 24mhs.  Only 1750 straps if you have 480s and overclocking like 2250+.

well, scrapped the 1500 straps at 1850 for 26 mhs and went to the 1750 straps @ 2100 and got me 28.8 - 29.1 mhs. 1150/2100 -75mv. so no complaints here. samsung memory, 4 gb 470. stock was 23 mhs. @rjg, @christian088, thanks for the info on that, netted me a few more mhs Smiley

@dallas, what memory did your 470 have?

4029  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: XFX hd 7970 for sale. daily mark down sale on: January 18, 2017, 01:51:23 PM

damn, beats me. my 1st computer (that i owned) was this ZX-81

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX81

had the 16 kilobyte RAM expansion and the sparky printer.

good times Smiley
4030  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Panda Miner coming up. on: January 17, 2017, 11:26:36 AM
I also think my controller could be put inside the case near the ram   or near the cpu heatsink.

that would be slick.

no probs stacking them and much neater.
4031  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Large Bitcoin Collider (Collision Finders Pool) on: January 16, 2017, 01:54:11 PM
ok, 1st, im stupid. with that in mind please go easy on me.

this project is trying to find private keys to random public addresses with btc in it, is it not?

i thought that was, for all intents and purposes, impossible due to the truly astronomical odds.

so how is this finding them?

or do i have the whole purpose and results of this project wrong.

btw love the name.
4032  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Weak / Narrow Blockchain AI on: January 16, 2017, 01:36:26 PM

I was having difficulty getting focused over the weekend so i decided to do something a bit easier:-

Do you like it or is a see through wallet a bad idea ?

ugh.

plain wallet please. that see through background is distracting.

lower resell value than standard PC componects

i wonder. mayhaps mxm gpus would have a higher resell value percentage wise compared to full desktop gpus? smaller market but then again not many for sale.

of course most would probably just buy a whole new laptop. dunno.
4035  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PandaMiner Launches Global Sales! on: January 14, 2017, 03:07:26 PM
one other (possible?) weak point; undernourished cpu.

some versions of claymore came close to needing more cpu than my G1840 could provide at higher -i values, and i have only a 4 card rig with that cpu.

wonder if future miner software would need more cpu, at least to reach max hash per card?

is that cpu replaceable? and if it is i wonder what the power delivery for that custom mobo is capable of. need low power cpus of course but still there are stronger ones.

i do like that thing, if my power were cheaper i would snag one, as it is my profit barely will allow roi, and the main reason i mine, aside from the hobby/fun aspect, is to offset the card cost and reuse the cards in future builds.

ah well. i have lots of yard (13 acres) so a solar array is in the plan in a few years. ground mount, single axis tracking. soon as the houses geothermal hvac is paid off  (3 more years) thats the next project.

moar power!

You can't download it [16.3.2) from AMD support. There's only latest version. Use google search for this and download from another site.

yes you can, amd has a complete list of older drivers for dl

if it's a windows PC and windows for some reason doesn't plug and play the drivers . tip if at all possible try not to mix USB to UART Bridge VCPDrivers and zadig on the same windows PC it may lead to a bricked windows install, uninstall one before you use other to be safe unless that has been fixed,

actually the only way i managed to brick my win7 install with zadig was to accidentally replace my keyboard HID driver with zadig  Cheesy you can imagine how that went..

fortunately a full system image restore fixed that.. macrium reflect free to the rescue Smiley
4038  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v11.0 (Windows/Linux) on: January 13, 2017, 01:44:21 PM
can anyone tell me default AMD Environment settings?
because some of my other opencl apps are broken (owner of rx 470)
I mean these:
GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR
GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE
GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS
GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT
GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT

just clear them, then default values will be used by whatever uses them next.

setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR=   (you may not need the equals sign, try both ways)
etc

BTW use set for miner sessions, do not use setx, setx sets values perminately across all future cmd prompts and programs. set sets it just for that command prompt only, then clears them on exit.

in this case only you would use the setx to clear them system wide.

edit fr4ankthetank beat me to it.

4040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why you backup, seriously. on: January 07, 2017, 02:01:11 PM

Given the fact I remember the 24 word seed to my main savings wallet with the most coins in it the cloud issue even if it caused me a problem would only affect 20% holdings at most.

These passwords I originally wrote down, and recited many times over and over in the morning and evening until I recalled them and then destroyed them. 30 characters, random letters and numbers mixed in with random CD keys of games I reinstalled over several years over and random words and over complete with random symbols of my choice for the password.

glad you trust your memory like that.

my memory is toast. cant even remember who i am replying to.

i backup anything important to at least 3 different media in at least two physical locations. most backups are automated, all i have to do is remember to rotate the offline storage drives/sticks and swap the offsite stuff around.

biggest thing to remember about backups?    TEST THEM RELIGIOUSLY
