4061  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: November 23, 2021, 07:57:01 AM
Time for yet another brief monthly overview of the local board activity, and yet again I am late so apologies for that. All charts and tables are made with he help of two excellent tools: @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboardand @TryNinja Ninjastic.space

Communities that are marked with * don't have their own local boards. At least not yet, but hopefully that will change.

Post activity per local board during October 2021

With 20942 posts being written during October, local boards remained similar activity compared to September and 21454 posts being written, which is barely noticeable change.

When it comes to the most active boards, no change at the top; Russian board is far ahead the others with 7262 posts, followed by Turkish and German boards. Standarsd names are at the bottom too, which are usually reserved for Greek and Dutch boards.

For quite some time Turkish board has numbers very similar to Russian, but in the last month they had huge decrease of post activity, going down from 6099 in September to 3541 posts written in October, which is ~40% decrease. Amplitudes of that magnitude happen often on the smaller board, but very rarely on such a big board as theirs.

Merit shared per local board during October 2021

During October, 9332 merits were shared across 20 local boards ( to be more precise, 17 local boards+3 communities without) which is pretty decent increase (approximately 16%) compared to September and 6956 merits.

Like with the post activity, no changes at the top here either; Russian is far ahead, followed by German, Turkish and Italian boards.

Big (pleasant) surprise this month is German board with 1826 merits shared that makes it an incredible ~220% increase compared to September and only 571 merits shared. I have no idea what happened there, but it's nice to see German board recovering like that as they had negative trend for a long time. As a matter of fact, this is their by far the best result, as the closest one to October was December 2019 with 1373 merits shared.

When it comes to merit increase, it is also worth to mention Italian board that had almost 40% increase compared to September, making October their personal best month, merit-wise. Big surprise here is Pakistan community as well, with 60% increase compared to September and their 132 merits shared is an excellent number, considering that they don't even have their own local board.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during October 2021

Pretty straightforward chart that follows (more or less) the amount of merit shared, which makes sense.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for October 2021

It's nice to see this chart yet again being dominated by blue colour, meaning number of merits shared are increasing and all those recently added  merit sources are doing their job properly. Out of all local boards, only Dutch had lower monthly merit/post ratio shared compared to 12 months period, which is a very good result, probably the best so far.

The most active members per local board during October 2021

For the end of this overview, list of the top 10 most active members in each local board (and several communities without one).

4062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many bitcoins are needed to buy a house in your country? on: November 22, 2021, 07:52:48 AM
It mainly depends where would I buy the house; if we are talking about buying a house my hometown, approximately 1-1.5 BTC would be more than enough modern ~200 square meters house. Then again, its a small town in less developed part of my country (Croatia) and if anything people are moving out of there.

If we are talking about town where I currently live, you would need at least 4 BTC for anything even remotely decent. My goal is house with a sea view, and for that I would need something like 8-10 BTC now, or hopefully 1  BTC in a couple of years. Cheesy
4063  Other / Meta / Re: Generous Source of Merit Only In Global Section. on: November 22, 2021, 06:58:01 AM
I don't know about that cause a year ago my fellow legendary countryman applying for merit source but sad to say didn't accepted. And I don't know also about this if low ranks applying for Merit Source got accepted. Anyways that's not the problems here we can Post in global section and get merit.
As far as I know, the lowest rank that got his merit source application accepted was Full Member, so it's not like you have to be Legendary member with thousands of merits earned to get accepted. But it makes sense that merit sources are usually higher ranks (Sr Member and up)  as it mean you already shared quite a lot of merit and have some experience with it, and you had time to build forum reputation which is also important I think.

There is no rank criteria to become merit source and the merit sources information isn't publicaly available so we also can't say that newbies can't be a merit source but the criteria from theymos is very clear collect 10 worthy post which deserve merits and you should be a recognised member in the community.
Those two things contradict really, being a newbie and a recognized member of the community. So it's safe to assume that no newbie has no chance of becoming a merit source.
4064  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: November 21, 2021, 10:55:31 AM
All of the post (not only those 5) follow however the same pattern: a small text explanation+social media link. But even if it's a pattern, there must be thousands of posts like that in the forum, so what the hell
Yep, those are basically shitposts that doesn't look any better than thousands of others. Just take for example this post by JackieAinsley for which got his merit from Ratimov. In this post he promotes some shitcoin failed project that is allegedly giving Ferrari to one lucky IDO participant.

Now, during the fall of the cryptocurrency market, it is very important to attract attention to yourself so that people notice the project. Here is an example of how to attract attention to yourself - https://dragonbite.medium.com/dragonbite-announces-uniswap-ido-with-a-ferrari-8beebe4f0f13

What's interesting about this DragonBite project that is being promoted in that post is that it has ANN here on bitcointalk, and you can see several other members of that bumping group writing there.

4065  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: November 21, 2021, 10:18:47 AM
Another bumping service. Yesterday I reported on many of the posts this company makes until I realized it is a farm.
To avoid being discovered, they also write their posts not only in the announcement threads but also on regular topics. But almost all of their messages are one-line shilling.
Nice find. And yeah, those are a little bit better than an average bumping service as they took some effort in appearing like a regular members since they wrote in general threads outside altcoin section, which is something that sock puppet accounts usually don't bother with.

What struck me was that every account, except for one, had one merit. Somehow, magically, they managed to get these merits from Ratimov. Shocked
Hm yeah, that is weird coincidence.  At first I though that maybe they got merit from one of his merit giveaway threads, but I don't see that. For example, Lunafox got merit from Ratimov on July 27th for the post that was written on  March 27th), and I don't see him applying to any merit giveaway thread around that time, or I simply can't find it.

This is even weirder; those 5 got merit from Ratimov in under 9 minutes, for posts written several months before, across 5 different threads. How the hell did he find their posts, since they were so scattered, assuming they didn't apply in merit giveaway thread?
4066  Other / Meta / Re: Generous Source of Merit Only In Global Section. on: November 21, 2021, 08:52:32 AM
Based on the threads that rikafip [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity keep updated on a monthly basis, I can say that your local board has become one that has over 200 merit distribution in recent month, probably far more than some of the other local board. So what's the point of you complaining, did you not get anything?
It is also fair to say that among the most active local boards,  Indonesian (and Portuguese) are the the least merited ones. I haven't published this month's overview yet (should be out in a day or two) but I can say that merit/post situation in October  looks even worse than during September for their board; number of posts went up by ~30% and number of merits shared went down by ~15%. Combine that and you get 0.14 merit/post ratio, which is pretty low.

Another metric that is worth mentioning is amount of people that are part of the merit system in Indonesian board; you can clearly see that their board sticks out, among the ones with similar amount of merit shared. That number even went up in October, with Indoensian board having 28 senders and 40 merit receivers.

Based only on those numbers (and not going into quality of posts there as I don't speak Bahasa), I am not surprised that someone from Indonesian board opened this thread as we had very similar situation in my local board (Croatian) up until few months ago when we got few merit sources.

4067  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak on: November 17, 2021, 10:31:03 AM

4068  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: November 16, 2021, 06:58:52 AM
Obviously we will have to be a little more patient until bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies rise a little more and when we will be able to make a big withdrawal of crypto funds and start enjoying full financial freedom  Grin
If everything happens according to PlanB's  stock-to-flow model (which was pretty accurate up until now) that could happen somewhere around next bitcoin halvening. Cheesy

While I jokingly accused @rikafip of laziness, I reckon this is not a job for us. And all we do here is for fun.
Yep, making these charts are fun to me. Someone might find it pointless waste of time, but I enjoy making them and that's what is important after all.

During October there were 128 active posters making post in the Indonesian Local Board of which there were 1150 post based on the data I took on the merit dashboard and we also distributed a minimum of 223 merit for 41 quality posters. This is a good view for Local Board Indonesian where in the last few month we have been able to consistently distribute 200+ merit to quality posters.
Good to hear that Indonesian board is slowly recovering as at one moment you went from one of the most to one of the least merited boards and all that in a couple of months. I see that you had a little drop in the amount of merits shared compared to September, but for sure looks much better than June when you had only 62 merits shared, which was your 2nd worst result ever.

Working on the charts as we speak, overview should be out in the next 2 days.
4069  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is This A Genuine Project? on: November 14, 2021, 08:40:16 PM

Seems everyone is starting one NFT collectible site or the other. How do we know which are genuine?
That's how it goes, and that's how scammers usually operate; they find whatever is popular at the moment and stick to it. Regarding checking whether project is genuine or not, few simple things that you can do is reverse image search team members (if they are doxxed, which are often not), check whitepaper for plagiarism, lack of info on the site (especially tokenomics).

I glanced over their site and at first it seems ok, it's hard to say without more in-depth check up. One thing is weird though; on their twitter they keep announcing that token will be listed on PancakeSwap on November 18th, but for some reason it's already being traded there since last night.

4070  Economy / Reputation / Re: 1xBit campaign is starting again. on: November 14, 2021, 08:17:24 PM

BTW, some clubs ended their partnership with 1xbet after some allegations:
https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/chelsea-and-liverpool-join-spurs-in-dumping-1xbet-sponsorship/
To be fair, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham ditched them only after they have been contacted by UK Gambling Commission, telling them that they could end up getting lawsuits. ,otherwise I have no doubt that all those clubs would still promote 1xbit. Pretty much the same thing would happen here if people are not afraid of getting tagged.

Meanwhile, CZ/Binance is among those that don't have issues taking money from scammers, which is no surprise considering the kind of crap that gets listed there on the regular basis.

4071  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to spend smerits? on: November 14, 2021, 02:44:41 PM

My short answer: If you see a post that you think is good: Merit it Smiley There's no need to overthink it.
+1

That's pretty much my M.O (I am not merit source); when I see a good post I send merit. I don't think about keeping some just in case I stumble upon better post or anything like that. That way I am 99% of the time at 0 merit available (currently I have 1 but before end of the day I will be again at 0) and I help the merit to circulate.
4072  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak on: November 14, 2021, 09:48:12 AM
Cheesy

4073  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak on: November 14, 2021, 08:39:13 AM
Uh, nisam bas veliki obozavatelj niskobudzetnih filmova.

Rikafip! Where are you? I am late doing my homework, but you are later than me!
Lol, don't worry, I will add your graphs later.

Haha yeah I am slacking again, procrastination is a chronic disease. Cheesy

Joke aside (though I am master procrastinator), I started making charts like week ago, but then I got shit load of work so after like 14-16 hours of work at the PC it's hard to find the time (and will ) to even post on the forum, let alone make this overview. Things should calm down in a couple of days so charts should be out by the end of this week.
4075  Other / Meta / Re: Application For Merit Source [Philippines Local Board] on: November 14, 2021, 07:20:05 AM
In my opinion, it should be a post that is worthy to receive merit and yet no one give a single merit then I think that will give you a better chance of becoming one.
Not really, as theymos clearly said that it you don't have to submit posts without merit, but those that didn't receive enough merit, as seen in the quote below. So there is really no need to complicate this; just find 10 good posts written in the last few months that could have received more merit and that's about it.

2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.

In Pilipinas local board all we need is an active member who's worthy to became a merit source.  Spending at least 4-8 hours here and contributed already for the local board.
Spending 4-8 hours daily on the forum in order to become merit source? Don't you think that it is an overkill, making this position like a full time job.
4076  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Socials, Altcoins & Reddit help on: November 12, 2021, 10:01:38 AM
As for me, ranking No 100 on coinmarketcap, simply means such coin is a good coin, with a good project and good backup team/community. Because it will only take a good project to have such rank.
This couldn't be farther from the truth, as there are  shitcoins in top 20, let alone top 100 which is filled with bunch of useless coins/tokens with no real use.

Regarding some projects not being on reddit, one of the reasons is that it's much harder to shill your shitcoin there, compared to other platforms like Twitter. It is very easy to get banned there so many projects don't care much about establishing themselves there.

4078  Economy / Services / Re: Does Binance automatically convert your altcoins to Bitcoins when withdrawing? on: November 10, 2021, 08:35:52 AM

How many ways are there to convert them to btc?
It's simple really; you sell those coins for BTC right there on Binance exchange and then send BTC to your own wallet.

How how can you know what the fees would be for each coin?
Here you can find fees for all the coins https://www.binance.com/en/fee/cryptoFee. Just keep in mind that withdrawal for some coins is more expensive than others. For example, BTC withdrawal fee is 0.0005 BTC, which equals to ~33 USD at the moment. So better to pay that fee once instead of paying relatively similar fee for each and every coin you have there. Unless of course you really want to keep those altcoins and in that case you will have to pay fee for each coin separately.

For unverified users on Binance.com who have multiple altcoins and want to withdraw everything to another wallet, how does it work? Do you send the coins to the wallet one by one?
Yep, you have to send various coins one by one, and for each you have to pay withdrawal fee so I suggest that your convert all of them to BTC in order to lower the fees. Unless of course you plan to hold them for longer period of time so you really want to keep those altcoins.

Do they convert the coins to bitcoin upon withdrawal so the receiving wallet gets the coins in bitcoin?
No. You have to exchange those coins for BTC by yourself, and then withdraw it to your BTC wallet.
