4061  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Venezuela on: February 26, 2019, 10:58:52 PM
I gather Venezuela has a large supply of food, but the people can't afford to buy it because of US sanctions. The US needs to remove the sanctions so that people can start working again, and they should return the money they seized when Maduro tried to buy dialysis machines and other health aid, which the US blocked.

and why doesn't the US send aid to the Yemen if they are so keen on humanitarian aid?

People can't buy it because the socialists in power destroyed the economy, when they ran out of money over corruption and overspending they just "printed" more and that is that. Whatever you say is nothing more than lies.

...

RIGHT NOW there is no toothpaste shortage in Caracas, its simply all imported, and very expensive. Socialists destroyed the economy, and with it the national production of toothpaste, which used to be made in Venezuela, but not anymore.

And guess what, they don't take our fiat in other countries, because socialism forbids free exchange of it. So international price, at black market, plus the profit of the merchant. Direct result of a socialist policy: There is less of everything and more expensive.

As i explained before, toothpaste and other things reappear when people circumvent the socialist law, specifically the one that fixates the prices.

Food is the same, un-buyable for the masses, plenty for the few rich, usually tied to the usurper government, and the occasional foreigner who instantly becomes rich due to the magic of hyperinflation.

Of course you didn't watch the live streams, because the truth would shatter your anti Venezuelans propaganda. Here is a picture of one of the trucks before it entered the bridge:

And after:

This war for information passed by the press is the last resource of the government. There is no other possibility for this government to stand. It is a dispute over narratives. But how to believe in a version that prohibits videos that are not positive?
That's only the tip of the iceberg. Maduro and his cronies are involved in criminal acts against humanity even before he ordered the burning of the food and medicine trucks. If they survive the transition, they will spend the rest of their lives in prison, and they know it.

Also internet is heavily censored in Venezuela, and cable companies (including Direct TV) had to take down several channels that day or else...
4062  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting started with Google Authenticator on: February 26, 2019, 08:28:23 PM
OP again. I am trying to load Authy into my binance account and it looks like it only uses Google Authenticator??  Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh

There is no options for Authy setup.  What am I doing wrong here?  When I went the GA route and inputed my Authy info, I get the error message "Binding failed"

Authy (and any other 2fa) use the same config as Google Authenticator. You don't need separate setups, they are the same thing.

If you already had created the 2fa and just want to switch from GA to Authy, you need to use the backup 16 char code in Authy to recover your already active setup. Else you would need to disable 2fa and enable it again.

If you keep getting errors double check your phone time/date is correct.

In all sites the procedure is the same:

When you request 2FA, It generates a (backup) key which you must write-down somewhere and keep it very safe and then scan that qrcode (or input the key manually) in your 2FA app (here you can use GA, Authy or any other).

That is all. the site will now ask you your 2FA code which is the one your app is showing and keeps changing every minute or so.
4063  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Release new 7NM Chip and Antminer S17 & T17 on: February 26, 2019, 05:21:23 PM
Reading the gauge article it mentions that they can work better when alone and ventilated than together with other wires sharing a racetrack or pipe. In such case you are supposed to reduce their "ampacity".

14gauge can take 15amps if the pair is, say, alone inside a pipe from the breaker to the plug. An S9 pulls like 6A at 220v, but that would be more than twice that at 110v so think 15a (you could/should measure it). Since I'm recommending to put the transformer next to the panel (not next to the miner) that 110v run should be really short, which is what you want to reduce resistance and can cheaply use thicker wires (gauge 12 or less) from breaker (20a) to transformer.

Of course if you have multiple 110v phases you could just use a couple of that and have like 208ish without any transformer (you just send both hots to that circuit). You are supposed to change the plug at the end so its clear that its a higher voltage plug, ie: Nema 6:

4064  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Two s9js with different noises on: February 26, 2019, 04:23:33 PM
Easy test: Swap the fans between the miners. Then you can tell for sure if the problem is simply the fan brand/model. And yes different fans have different performance, i wouldn't be surprised that is actually the case.

When doing this make sure to respect which fan goes front and which one goes back, as one is stronger than the other.

After you perform this test you can then decide if you want to buy the exact fans online.

I wouldn't bother with "forcing" rpms much, the speed should be in relation to temperature. Of course that doesn't mean all Bitmain controllers do this perfectly well.
4065  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to repair s9 miner that rebooting? on: February 26, 2019, 04:15:17 PM
If you were sold a used miner that's not working, especially if you think he is a scammer, I would recommend that you try a working control board to see if that fixes your problem.

Indeed, first determine what the cause of the problem is. Try with another control board, or another PSU from a working S9.

Also, disconnect the Asic boards see if it doesn't reboot, then try connecting one by one only one board at a time, then two.
4066  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Venezuela on: February 26, 2019, 03:20:23 PM
I live half an hour from the border with Colombia, the situation was very unfortunate and full of impotence as they have burned humanitarian aid full of food and medicines.
...
According to the footage mentioned by the other thread, the trucks burnt on Columbia soil and the fires were started by Molotov cocktails thrown from the direction of interior Columbia.

I would not say it was Colombians doing the throwing because there are a lot of different parties operating in Columbia at the moment.  And in Venezuela for that matter.

In short, the event matches well with what a lot of us were expecting.  Namely a false-flag event, or at least a generalized kerfuffle at the border staged to justify an invasion.  It's standard operating procedure in 'regime change' operations.

What a bull of crap. Hundreds of thousands were watching the streamings live from several different media broadcasts and was clearly as I wrote:

4 Trucks started moving, all 4 entered Venezuela (it starts from the middle of the bridge, in case you also are ignorant about borders), after the first one started exiting the bridge, it was ambushed. "Police" and irregulars shot not caring there were 50 unarmed civilian (including women and children) on the truck, they fled back to Colombia, many wounded. At first they tried stealing the first truck that was left there but couldn't, then they set it on fire. Since that blocked the trucks behind they tried to set the others on fire as well, people defended using rocks making them flee back, but at least two caught fire, and the engine of the third. Part of the cargo from a 3rd one was hurriedly salvaged by the people there while under fire from "police" and the irregulars. the fourth truck was able to return.

In short: They ambushed, shot at innocent civilians, then burned the trucks carrying food and medicine, which is a severe crime under international law. Oh and when the civilians fled back into Colombia, they kept shooting towards Colombia. There are SEVERAL videos showing the aggression against Colombian soil, even Colombian Police is seen running away and taking cover. They don't just shoot cans (which can kill you when aimed horizontally at you, something which is forbidden by international law), they also replace the "rubber" shotgun pellets with glass marbles or nails, this has been Maduro's repression policy for the past 5 years. That is exactly how hundreds were killed just in the last few years, they simply took to the border the exact same thing they did to unarmed civilians in Caracas and other cities protesting the miserable conditions of life brought by socialism.

Those "irregular" (sometimes called "colectivos") is basically a militia of sorts. It is rumored they even use convicted prisoners in exchange of reducing their sentence. Those irregulars from Maduro were caught in the act of making the molotov bombs, and in fact one was captured and brought back to Colombian soil.

Here another "Lie". Maduro was getting interviewed, and it was shown "a lie", because if this insulted, he stopped the interview and left. Nothing wrong with that, except... He ordered the journalists detained, taken their belongings (and footage) and given a house arrest at an hotel then expelled.

In YOUR country you can say the things you want (except death threats) to your President, and you won't even get detained for that. But when socialists get in power they act worse than a monarch...

Univision's Jorge Ramos detained in Venezuela after Maduro interview, network says
Ramos told Univision that the offending line of questioning came when he showed Maduro images taken on Ramos’ phone of Venezuelans eating out of the trash to prove people were living a humanitarian crisis.

Ramos is arguably the best-known journalist in the Spanish-speaking world. He has gained particular notoriety for regularly locking horns with Donald Trump, who had him ejected from a press conference while on the campaign trail in 2015. The have since sparred over the US president’s proposed border wall among other contentious issues.

And here you can clearly see the difference between freedom and tyranny. Trump dismisses him while Maduro puts him under arrest and expels him.

Do you know what would have happened if they were Venezuelans journalists? (yes it has happened before). Of course you don't, for you everything is a "lie" because you don't live here and you haven't been into socialist hell. If they were Venezuelans they would be imprisoned by now, without anyone knowing, no lawyers or family, nothing, zero due process. Maybe in a year or two they get a mock up "trial" as an excuse to keep them imprisoned 5 or 10 more years. And wait until you learn the truth of Venezuelan prisons... They are hell on earth. Venezuela has thousands of political prisoners because socialism makes a crime to think something different. You instead, in your freedom capitalist country are allowed to poison people with socialist ideas...

Of course you'll never learn the truth and never care about the suffering of the Venezuelan people. To you defending your sacrosanct ideology comes first, and Maduro is "socialist" therefore your friend, while everyone else is a capitalist pig therefore your enemy. Because this is the materialistic garbage Marxists teach everyone, that a conflict is inevitable and only thru it would the "workers class liberate themselves"...

Media lie? I'm tired of watching people searching for food from the garbage. I could even set up a live stream if that wouldn't endanger myself. Socialism brought the worst living conditions in the history of this country, and has done the same anywhere else it was tried.

Capitalism creates wealth, socialism destroys it.
4067  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 - Vertical vs Horizontal orientation on: February 25, 2019, 11:09:00 PM
With canaan seem easier to set like this. I would probably look to secure units with front and rear fans.

Has anyone tried vertical orientation with the later units? S9, S15?

Reading another thread i just remembered something important: Fan bearings don't like changing orientation. Apparently ball bearings are better for horizontal, and sleeve bearings for vertical (fan orientation, not miner). So a common fan actually needs to be standing as opposed to lie flat, as they would in a miner oriented vertically...

TL;DR you might need to replace your fans with ball bearings to run your miner vertically.

Yeah - You just wait until this new generation of snowflakes come to age. Their Smartphone skills will revolutionize how internet and phones work together.

I mean seriously - these kids these days operate a dozen social media accounts, 100 aps, while texting 3 group chats and face-timing grandma all at the same time...  Roll Eyes

I assure you - This new "Shit" generation is exactly what Bitcoin needs to jump into mainstream use.

It's not grandma we want - It's these damn kids to grow up, get jobs, and invest into new tech.

Smartphones? Next gen will probably be using augmented reality goggles or such. Google Glass might have been a bit early, but i can picture a near future where everyone would wear something like that instead.
4069  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any suggestions or experiences on using a voltage stabilizer/regulator on: February 25, 2019, 10:11:14 PM
Can we use a UPS instead of an stabilizer?

Google "UPS Transfer time" and "PSU hold-up time".

What happens is that the PSU very briefly shuts down then restarts causing the miner to reboot. Pretty much ALL standby UPS's have transfer times that are too long for mining use which is why the dual-conversion ones are best - BUT - being always on-line you do take a little efficiency hit.

You can use the same types designed for large computer servers (eg: Blade).

In My Opinion™ an UPS is a bit overkill, and you need to replace the batteries every two years or three, adding to maintenance costs. An UPS simply switches to battery when something weird goes with the mains, while the "voltage regulator" tries to compensate the problem by itself. And yes like you say, they have response times as well so depending on the problem it might not prevent a reset.

Ideally the PSU is great and can tolerate a lot, but worst case they test it for China mains which is 230v @50hz like Europe.

Here protection would be the first goal, not so much a reset. Ie, don't let a voltage that would harm the PSU in. Second would be stabilize the voltage so input can fluctuate but output remains stable. Ie a low tolerance PSU that could burn with a 250v peak.

Of course a simple (cheaper) air conditioner/refrigerator protector could do the same, at the expense of more resets. If you have a large operation, make sure they have adjustable timers, to prevent them all going and coming at the same time...

A decent PSU should not let harmful DC voltages even when getting weird things from the mains... Someone would need to review and stress-test those new Bitmain PSUs to have a definitive answer. How much can they tolerate, how stable is their DC output regardless of input? Etc.

Where should we add --fan-temp-hot and --fan-temp-dangerous parameters?

Any idea how to actually use this command?

--no-sensor-scan

I'm willing to bet they can be defined in cgminer.conf, waiting confirmation Confirmed:

It can be used when launching cgminer, or within cgminer.conf.

Just edit cgminer.conf and add it as any other cgminer option:

Quote from: Jan Čapek
it's both like with any cgminer option...

It is best to put it into the config file /etc/cgminer.conf...

the options are standard form for cgminer

"no-sensor-scan" : true will work

disabling temperature sensor scanning  when can it be useful?

Yes I am using Windows as stated in my post.
Using Linux may be a solution but sometimes Windows is the best way to go.
Thanks for your recommendations.

Indeed. Did you learn from your mistake? If there is something you should not do with windows, is serious money or production stuff. Sounds contradictory, but it is actually more difficult to secure Windows than Linux.

You should have a Linux PC/Laptop/Tablet to do these "serious" money operations.
4072  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: February 25, 2019, 06:55:41 PM
This time there are not many more details, but here it goes in case something was missed:

2019-02-21-0

All mining hardware types

[feature] temperature limits are now configurable via configuration file. The two new configuration options are: --fan-temp-hot and --fan-temp-dangerous. These options effectively override the temp limits in temp-def.h (They actually are: --fan-dangerous-temp and --fan-hot-temp).
[fix] 15m and 24h hash rate shows up only if the full time period of hash rate data has been collected
[fix] enabled/disabled indicator for Asic Boost now works again in the overview status page
[feature] fan control now has a new option --min-fans that specifies the minimum amount of fans that have to be operational (defaults to 1). Setting the option to "0" results in skipping the check for working fans.

Antminer S9

[feature] new configuration option allows disabling temperature sensor scanning (--no-sensor-scan). I2C scan log is now being stored into a separate file: /tmp/i2c_scan.log
[feature] support for ADT7461 temperature sensor that appears to be used on some hash board revisions

Dragonmint T1

[feature] support for G29 revision of the control board (no SD-card slot)
[feature] web interface now allows configuring full range of frequencies (120 MHz - 1596 MHz) and voltage levels (1-31)
[feature] transitional firmware for Dragonmints T1 with G19 control board is no longer provided. See the documentation for details.

It is important to highlight that disabling the fans (setting to 0) means people with liquid cooling no longer need fans attached or dummy hardware emulation. Also the Dragonmint T1 with G29 control board (256m of ram) should work...

Be very careful with those speeds and voltages, just because you can doesn't mean you should. There is no hand holding here and you can easily burn your asics when overclocking or disabling the fans. You can also damage your PSU by overloading it when overclocking.

With great power comes great responsibility, this is the freedom of free open source software.
4073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best new way to pay with Bitcoin on: February 25, 2019, 04:03:17 PM
So what difference does it make from the other smartphones with wallets installed. I have Mycelium wallet which is open source installed in my smartphone and it works like a charm without any hassles.
Samsung phone coming with pre-installed wallet is no better than this. Besides that there might be bugs in the wallet as we don't know how it works yet.

Perhaps it will help "remove the fear" from newcomers, same as computers with Linux pre-installed. Of course we don't know how good (or bad) Samsung wallet is, and i'd rather keep using my favorite wallet, same way we use our favorite distro on our PC, even when buying one with Linux pre-installed.

For Koreans i guess the appeal is that wallet can also handle fiat, which they have been using for electronic payments before adding crypto coins.
4074  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1000 Bitcoin: The World's Most Expensive Prius on: February 25, 2019, 03:52:55 PM
I have to spend mine today in order to eat, knowing perfectly well that tomorrow those bitcoin could have many times their current purchasing power. It is a shame i had to be born in a country taken and destroyed by socialism. If i ever get a decent job again when the economy recovers after socialists get kicked out, I'll be able to start my bitcoin savings. But i'm afraid it might be too late...

For those who can manage to have bitcoin savings, good for them. In freedom you can choose to not live in luxury and save for tomorrow, under oppression you are left no choice...
4075  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scammers now in telegram on: February 25, 2019, 02:57:34 PM
I have seen some new frauds recently on the telegram. They chose telegram as the medium for scamming. They stay in some active groups and find the target. They also once targeted me. They gave me the various link by personal message. And after clicking on the link the link told me to create an account. And if I want to do create an account they will want the wallet's private key. So I think they are a Very terrible scammer. We should be safe from them. Otherwise, we will lose all our cryptocurrency. They send me so many messages that I stopped using telegram for them. Besides, there are many scam bots in the telegram. Those bots never give payment. So I think it's not safe to earn in the telegram. It is best to use it as a communication medium.

Ignore and block them. This is nothing new. Always suspect a pm from an unknown contact, especially it if shows a link. It is the same thing scammers have been doing for decades over email, it has simply gone to where people has gone: instant messages, and various "social" media.

You have to be mindful of people pretending to be "official support". PMs are big no-no. On IRC i used to block all PMs and only lift the block ocasionally on select requests because of that reason. IRC is older than HTTP...

Internet is full of scammers and phishers, you have to learn to live with that and not fall for their stupid baits.

More than 150 Venezuelan police and military have deserted Maduro in the last 48 hours according to Colombian officials, crossing the border and requesting asylum.

Guaido ramps up pressure after deadly Venezuela border clashes

The indigenous people where two were killed yesterday today captured a military official (with his rifle) and several unarmed soldiers.

BTW Maduro is attempting a widespread internet censorship, several sites fail to load unless various types of circumvention is used.

1. Go to iancoleman's BIP39 seed generator[1] (optional - download the source code and run offline for better security);
2. Select 12 words and generate a new seed;
3. SAVE THIS SEED AND DON'T LOSE IT! You can't see it again in Electrum and without the seed you can't restore your wallet in the future;
4. Download Electrum;
5. While creating the wallet, select: Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed -> Paste the seed from step 2.
6. Click Options -> check "BIP39 seed" -> Next.
7. In the Derivation part, paste m/49'/0'/0'/0 and click next.
8. Now you have an Segwit wallet with addresses starting with 3.

Today I followed this guide to the letter with v3.3.3 but i ended with bech32 addresses. I guess this trick doesn't work anymore?

There's a lot of green which is great but it will take months before people get back their confidence. I don't think we'll go below the previous bottom but 3000 is not yet behind us.
