4101  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: April 19, 2018, 04:01:48 PM
Really? Never heard of it..
But definitely not every manager using that. Just experienced bounty managers.
There are a lot of companies that try to manage bounties by themselves, so still my example could become reality.

Even the ones that manage campaigns themselves and don't use automation are going to check up on the participants to make sure they are not cheating. To be honest, your example is a bit far-fetched.
4102  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: April 19, 2018, 01:56:37 PM
Not sure that hiding signature is good idea. Moreover not all bounty managers check signature campaign weekly.
For example: campaign is 10 weeks, check after 10 weeks.
During 1 week - signature is removed. And during week 10 received 1 merit and signature is back..
So, participant will be payed for almost nothing.. No really fair.
From other side it will motivate Legendary members to earn merits as well.

But, I would be against this method.

The campaigns use bots that monitor if the participants wear the signature at all times. If they don't do then the spammers cheat and enrol in many campaigns at the same time.
4103  Other / Meta / Re: Stats on the Rank pipeline - How many are we on the way to ranking up ? on: April 19, 2018, 12:04:34 PM
I added some more graphs on the OP with the info you suggested adding. Quite some detail there, and struggle everywhere to get enough merit ..

That's excellent and a lot more detailed than I was expecting. We still have to remember how short a period of time people have had to get the merit compared to how long it takes to get the activity. That's a function of the way everyone got the same initial distribution by their rank ignoring their activity. I'd think that if you compare those numbers in a couple of months time that there will be a big improvement.
4104  Other / Meta / Re: User stats are disabled? on: April 19, 2018, 10:08:55 AM
Why so hostile and defensive when people ask about this, TheQuin?

Because it is really annoying when people ask a question and the answer is on the same page. It shows that they're too lazy to help themselves and expect other people to do everything for them.

Comment/question before your snorting was THREE and ONE HALF months after the admin said they were working on it. Here we are over 4 months later and still no functionality. How would reading the thread bring enlightenment to that person anyway?  Why comment if it's just to flick a booger in that person's direction?

Because if you read the thread it is obvious that the admins have decided not to do anything about it. It's not even 2 pages long and that's still too much effort for some people.

Did you even read the post I was replying to?

Good morning to all.
I don't really understand if my stats are off because I'm a new member here or a punishment?
Does anyone have an answer?
Thank you very much for everything soon

This thread fully answers all of that. It wasn't even that they were bumping the thread to see if admin was going to answer they literally had not read anything.

P/s: Sorry but i don't know where to post!

Use the "Report to moderator" link on the posts and put in the comment something like "users posts are all spam please ban".
4106  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 19, 2018, 09:02:05 AM

The best thing about the free roll is that you are always guaranteed to win something whether it is the minimum $0.001 or all the way up to $200 it didn't cost anything to play.

It's $0.002 actually. Smiley I'm pretty sure you know this yourself, I just wanted to emphasize for others that the minimum award is two times bigger. Smiley

It kinda isn't anymore. Although we still refer to $0.002 as the base reward and the $0.001 as the halved reward I was sure if I had said $0.002 someone would jump in and object on the grounds they were only getting half that.
4107  Other / Meta / Re: Is it too hard to get Merit? (not a CryBaby post) on: April 19, 2018, 08:04:53 AM
Got you. I do understand the point, just one addition. This forum is for a long time not only about Bitcoin. It has become the sanctuary for all of the cryptocurrency discussions.

It's worth noting that altcoin forums like cryptocurrencytalk.com are practically deserted and everyone chooses to come to the Bitcoin Forum. Not because it is a sanctuary, but because they can get paid to post here.

I also do understand, that the quality measurement is subjective as someone might find even single line post worth meriting. The thing is, people love the sense of progression. That is also one of the reasons to have ranking system (sure, the additional features are there too). And as i understood, ranking only based on activity was too easy to misuse (leading to spam etc.). But the Merit system might still prove to be too difficult sometimes, hindering the progression too much. On the other hand, the lower ranks actually do not limit the use of the forum...

I really don't think it is too difficult to rank up for people that use the forum for what it is intended for. It certainly is difficult for people that came here to earn money from posting about something they're really not interested in. It may slow the process down for some well intentioned people but I don't see that as a problem. Over time it will just make the ranks a little more meaningful.

Here's some numbers to illustrate my point.

2,044,505 accounts.
850,000 active accounts (estimated before this was hacked).
13,807 accounts received 1 or more merit (source).

Of that 13,807 I would estimate maybe half would be here if they weren't being paid and almost all of them would have no problem ranking up.
4108  Other / Meta / Re: Is it too hard to get Merit? (not a CryBaby post) on: April 19, 2018, 07:35:18 AM
If we put everything together, we get Merit = Smerit * Quality * Time. What can we deduce?

We can deduce that you have completely missed the point.

A forum is a place where people come together to discuss a shared interest, in this case Bitcoin. Where that is happening people are getting merited not on an arbitrary measurement of quality or how much time was involved but on how useful other people valued that interaction.
4109  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: April 19, 2018, 06:54:20 AM
i dont know what is all about. and what is advantage and healpfull of this threads. but here's mine.

: 3HJ57WcoewSiiBm2LkkyPfxRGzoDDe6MR2

If you can't sign a message from that address there is no advantage at all.

Out of curiosity do you often do things when you have no idea why you are doing them? Anyway, the reason is stated in OP of the thread that you quoted so I don't need to repeat it.

4110  Other / Meta / Re: @Admins: Merit not working as configured, trolls just don't care (no surprise) on: April 19, 2018, 06:43:51 AM
Well the results are interesting.

Most of the people who dislike the idea are -

1. sig campaigners
2. not picking up many merit points
3. high ranks as a result of the activity based ranking system

I find that interesting but probably in a different way than you do. In effect imposing a fee to post would be a form of regressive taxation. Those with the highest income from their signatures would be paying the lowest tax rate and those with the lowest income from their signatures would be paying the highest tax rate. Then those with no paid signature, if they couldn't afford the tax, would be forced to join a signature campaign or leave.
So it is those in the best position to pay the tax that are most against it.

  • Nuke the old rank status for all members, re-adjust according to merit only

That's not a bad idea in my opinion but when it was suggested here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2823134 theymos said:

I seriously considered this, but I decided that it'd be just too disruptive. The desire to minimize carrying over flaws of the activity system are why I gave everyone the minimum merit to avoid being demoted, though.

That was part of what got me to thinking of other ways to tackle the signature spam from accounts that are already of high rank and I came up with Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp.

tl;dr Hide the signatures of anyone who doesn't get any merit over a certain timeframe.
4111  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: April 19, 2018, 06:17:37 AM
Someone should make a bountie about reading forums rules and FAQ for these kinds of ico hunters. Gave them a cookie per correct answer may works also...

Or how about when someone signs up a new account they are given links to those threads then they have to pass a test to prove their knowledge before they can post?
4112  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: April 19, 2018, 05:33:07 AM
I spent only 100 Satoshi so far trying to get my reward back up to the regular value, but that seems to be too less.

That's $0.008173 at the time of writing.

I once calculated that it would take approximatly 2000 years in average to win the lottery once with only tickets from free rolls, so I already settled with not winning this lottery ever.

Have you calculated how long it would take to win Powerball without ever buying a ticket?

Anyway I'm hoping for a 10,000 free roll because thats much more probable although my higest roll was 9,991 so far so I have'nt even won one of the 3 highest winning classes, but with approximatly 1,600 free rolls this is about average.

The best thing about the free roll is that you are always guaranteed to win something whether it is the minimum $0.001 or all the way up to $200 it didn't cost anything to play.
4113  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: April 19, 2018, 05:14:00 AM
Why did you convert the btc to bch it doent make sense? I would perfer my coins be BTC.

He didn't, there was a fork. That means a separate blockchain was created at a certain point in time that was exactly the same as the Bitcoin blockchain. So anyone who had Bitcoins at that time also had an equal amount of Bcash. Dr. H is simply making that Bcash available for you to withdraw. To convert it you need to withdraw it to an exchange and sell it for Bitcoin.
4114  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big price swings on: April 18, 2018, 11:08:56 AM
Perhaps the odd thing is the rise in cryptocurrencies like Monero & BCH [temporary speculation]

Monero has a fork coming up at the end of the month so people are buying it hoping for a "dividend" payout.

Bcash, on the other hand, is just having a tiny dead cat bounce.

4115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank in UK plans to open a Crpytocurrency Trading Desk. on: April 18, 2018, 10:08:44 AM
I am sorry again that I overlooked the denial part. But, I'll still ask the same question. Let's say hypothetically that they changed their minds and eventually open up a cryptocurrency trading desk, what will be the effects?

Have a look at the link to the original Bloomberg story two posts above. There is no denial of the report that they have been discussing it with clients to gauge interest.

As for the effects, it would open the market up to a much wider pool of institutional customers.

Hedge Funds

Demand for such services is plentiful. Hedge funds that deal with bitcoin and other virtual currencies have been eager to find banks to handle transactions -- much like prime brokers do with securities -- and potentially serve as custodians of digital assets. Some money managers have struggled to expand into crypto, in part because of rules that prevent them from using unregulated exchanges to trade and hold investments.

Hello This My Eth Address : 0xC7e5C8E39958Cc70E333e0D42342D6fF24fb53bF
I put this to proof  my verification and if someday or maybe someone will hack my account this is my proof thanks you.

That is not very likely to help you. Sign a dated message from a Bitcoin address or using PGP.
4117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank in UK plans to open a Crpytocurrency Trading Desk. on: April 18, 2018, 09:10:46 AM
this is just a rumor that has already been denied by the bank

Not exactly.

I posted about it yesterday, the original story comes from Bloomberg quoting a source.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-16/barclays-is-said-to-be-sounding-out-clients-about-trading-crypto

Quote
Barclays Plc has been gauging clients’ interest in the British bank starting a cryptocurrency trading desk, potentially joining Goldman Sachs Group Inc. in pioneering a new business on Wall Street, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The denial "no plans at this time" doesn't contradict that they have been talking to clients to gauge their interest.
4118  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Who are you following? on: April 18, 2018, 08:45:03 AM
I follow myself. I completely ignore what the rest of the people or self claimed wannabe experts come up with because it is nothing more than noise. Trusting 'sources' is never a good thing because it only distracts you from your own approach and way of thinking. I don't need anyone to tell me anything. If my approach and way of thinking doesn't apply well to a certain market situation, I simply adapt and adjust where needed. At the end of the day this market is full of TA clowns thinking to predict the top or bottom, or the next main resistance barriers, but one slight impulse of a large trader or whatever announcement can mess up everything. Nothing wrong with soaking in constructive advice, but always follow your own route. In general, others don't know more than you if you understand how things are being played here, never forget that.

I fully endorse this statement. Looking at others predictions usual ends up being distracting and confusing. The only useful thing to come from keeping an eye on the opinions of the masses is as a contrarian indicator. When nearly everyone is bearish the market is likely to turn upwards and vice versa.
4119  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big price swings on: April 18, 2018, 07:57:06 AM
You must be completely new to markets then. These sort of movements happen all the time and not only in crypto markets. Correlated markets generally move together unless there is some specific reason for them not to and then the become temporarily uncorrelated. Paranoia about manipulation also extends to other markets but not to the extreme levels so silliness that exist in the crypto world.
4120  Other / Meta / Re: Initial sMerit for every rank? on: April 18, 2018, 07:40:56 AM
sncc is correct. I only had 22 as a Sr. Member because I was not active for the whole of last year. theymos hasn't made the data public so nobody knows exactly how many sMerit anyone else received.
