This thread is getting silent. But currently, no news is bad news, right?

Because we aren't asking for it, doesn't mean you should not update us. Please keep us up-to-date with the progress you are making.

I agree, just post once a day how many Bitcoins have been mined. Can be an estimate and we don't need a fancy system at this point, just some basic transparency so we can roughly audit what's going on. Otherwise you're opening yourselves up to allegation of mining into private coffers.

They still seem pretty coupled to me.

gox is about 30-50 USD lower than btc-e/stamp. If the usual difference (gox 15% higher) had been maintained, stamp would be trading at $555 now. That's what I (we?) mean by "decoupled".
4103  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 09, 2014, 08:37:26 AM
Finally the solvent exchanges are successfully decoupling from Gox. Is it possible to have goxBTC at $300 and realBTC > $600 ??

Funnily enough something like that could end up saving Mt.Gox. If you're getting a 50% spread quite a few people who can handle the risk would be wiring large sums of money into Gox' coffers. Restoring the imbalance created by months of Gox leading the prices by 100$ or more. It would be a neat example of a self-correcting problem.

I've actually been thinking about recklessly wiring some money to gox, so I think this scenario is possible (never underestimate greed). I decided against it after about 7 seconds,... mainly for tax reasons and because I don't want to have to deal with the risk. Also because I'm pissed at gox and because I don't want to hear: "goxxed once? shame on gox. goxxed twice? shame on you".

Yeah, it's good to see the decoupling.

On the other hand, should gox reinstate BTC-withdrawals (assuming it's really technical problems and they will be solved), would the other markets follow the rally that would likely happen?

I hope so.

Why would you not have the most obvious and boring trolls on the ignore? Please stop quoting them for fuck sake

I quoted him because he said something I can agree with. Mostly I quote people when I disagree, but in this case agreement is the exception.

What if spreading the fud was actually Gox's plan to cause the dump and multiply their btc holdings?

I repeat THIS IS THE END OF THE BUBBLE !

I agree, the bottom is in. Bubble deflated.

grt it'll help BTC to go up once again after almost 100$ fall in last couple of days after Apple blocking blockchain app..!

I think that was not the reason for the fall. gox probs are more likely.

cool. It looks like they only ship domestically. Was hoping they'd ship Europe at least, but it doesn't look like it from the options when entering shipping address.

" Billionaire Mark Cuban has a currency trade idea for 2014 -Long Bitcoin and Short Gold."
molecular has held the idea consistently since 2011 (although he did short XBT and buy alpaca sock - and has refused to sell)
I'm sure molecular will hold in 2014 too.

Lol. I'm not selling gold. This may be a good idea for people who are mostly in gold and less (or not ata all) in BTC, which is not the case for me. My portfolio is still very BTC-heavy.

I did buy gold and silver in 2011 (after having acquired my first coins). Basically put all my fiat (I was almost broke to begin with) into Bitcoin and metal. I woke up at that time to the fiat scam and all that crap. Unfortunately I put way more into gold and silver than into BTC. I'm not complaining, though. It was the correct decision at the time for me.

I still think all these will be up in 2014.
4113  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: February 04, 2014, 08:27:41 PM

That's what I thought in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Merket stalled, some sells for a few coins are causing a few dollars price drops.

I have a feeling of shitstorm coming and I don't like it at all.

Me feels fear and it sucks.

Market stalled.

I have a feeling of a train coming.

I like it.

Me feels hope and it's fantastic.

insane? Makes a lot of sense in my view.

fake story.

What kind of evidence would you need?

You next to the car with a shoe on your head  Roll Eyes

Ok, not a shoe, but hopefully proof enough:

Filled it up 5 times so far. Despite winter, have not gone below 50mpg per tank yet. Averaging around 52, but going up with warmer weather.

And yes, had I waited, I could have bought the car, paid off my hubby's car, and paid off the house, but I didn't expect it to keep going up to $60  Shocked Frankly, I thought $30 might be the top of the bubble.

rassah, you may have been spotted by a redditor: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1wqbkq/saw_this_guy_on_my_way_back_from_buying_btc_what/

So those imbeciles from the FED did in fact taper. Wow, I did not expect that!

Bernankes term ends. Probably they'll wait until shit starts to fall apart and then that new chick will come out saying: "See, we have to <make up new word for QE> to save the world!"
4120  Economy / Economics / Re: Distribution of bitcoin wealth by owner on: January 31, 2014, 09:13:02 AM
Why, in your calculations, are there so many more users holding <10 bitcoins than there are actual addresses.  How can you hold this amount without an address?

It is quite customary to start with bitcoin by buying in an exchange and letting the coins stay there.

Thanks for the reply.  So are you saying that it is common for exchanges to pool funds with multiple users onto a smaller number of addresses.  I can't check bitstamp and I confess I don't understand how Gox operates, they seem to give you a different address each time.  My Cryptsy account and localbitcoin account just have one bitcoin address which show up on the blockchain with a small amounts.  Intuitively you would think that the number of addresses with small amounts would be much larger than the number of users.  That's all I am trying to get my head around.

When a newbie buys his first coins on fox, no new Bitcoin address is generated.
