4121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: November 26, 2015, 09:59:05 AM
Haven't been here for quite a while and in fact I'm not really in the loop since S4, just took a look at their website.

So why is efficiency going down?
How comes B7 was 5.06 TH/s and B8 only 4.73 TH/s?
Any hint at S7+ or S8?

Look at number of chips and freq.  Decent design change.  They keep changing amount of hash about every batch.  It's getting hard to follow.

And nothing official on what's next.  They are keeping pretty quiet on it.

Anyone have a Raspberry PI Zero? - http://www.adafruit.com/products/2885

I'm curious to see if it might be able to be a controller.   Seems petty close to the B models as far as specs.  Just much smaller and only 5 bucks.   Just would be fun to see if it would work.

Either way guess I have a new toy to try to find Smiley.  I saw some in stock but I really want the 5 dollar without all the add-ons, as I think I have most of what I need in my parts.
4123  Other / Archival / Re: REVIEW: Pros and Cons of different Bitcoin Storage methods on: November 26, 2015, 09:25:27 AM

I suggest putting like 8.5 or something like that and talk about storing a properly made paper wallet in a bank safety deposit box.  If it's done correctly no risk of hacking as it's a paper wallet (again IF done correctly).   And with bank it has high security that most places don't.

Its a good option for large sums of bitcoins.

A paper wallet doesnt have access to bitcoin. It stores private keys.

Then you must have the private key on a computer to be able to sign a transaction. At which point you have to choose 1 out of the 9 methods to access that private key.

So a paper wallet is more like a backup plan, but not a bitcoin point of access.

How is paper wallet with private key not a "Bitcoin Storage method".   You store BTC on a address you have private key to.  Once you need it you can put private key into many different wallets depending on what's your favorite.

To use it you need to put it into wallet yes.  But it in no way is a backup plan.  Paper wallet is a valid storage method.
4124  Other / Archival / Re: REVIEW: Pros and Cons of different Bitcoin Storage methods on: November 26, 2015, 07:21:27 AM
I`m using method 8⟩ for my bitcoins, and every techy people can easily use method 8⟩ to store bitcoin.

If you are a non-tech person then probably 7) is the best method for you. Hardware wallets are probably the most cost-effective of them all and very practical and easy to use for mainstream people too,
and if you have no clue how to secure the bitcoins properly then probably 7) is the best for you.

Otherwise 8⟩ or probably 9) if you hold huge amounts of bitcoin.

GOOD LUCK KEEPING YOUR BITCOINS SAFE FROM THIEVES!

I hope i can soon start in a signature campaign. That looks to me one of the best ways. But as newbie there is nothing i think. Have to wait a litte bit until i'm junior member.

Well you have a Potential Activity=56 so i think you are potential jr member, and by the next period you can be a member, anyway you can participate as jr member in signature campaign, check the rates here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0

Read a few posts up he is not ready to join one.  Look at post history - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=429035;sa=showPosts

He needs to do a little more constructive posts.  Not short posts that help no one, or some of off-topic.  Look how many times he's answered questions like last drink.  If you send him to go join a sig campaign he likely is going to be banned for post quality.
4126  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d on: November 26, 2015, 06:54:24 AM
If someone needs it to be even quieter i think there is a possibility adding a fan in the front to push air through might help, and take regular fan that pulls from 20 percent to 10.

I have not seen anyone do it yet but i think putting fan's in a push/pull has some possibilities as far as going even more quiet.

I don't think add push/pull would help in any meaningful way - keep in mind that it just increases static pressure, not CFM, and the design of the Avalon is pretty free flowing (as opposed to the S7, which is a dogs lunch inside and NEED static pressure in order to overcome all the turbulence).  If you're looking for some minor gains, then one thing you can do is remove the hexagon cover on the front of the device - it doesn't do anything than look cool and restrict airflow, so one of the first things I did was pop them off.

Some were reporting faster speeds with fan at lower level.  I was just thinking add another fan that is molex or something and not controlled by fan level on software, possibly faster speed without losing coolness.  So it's not so much as a improvement of push/pull as much as keeping what you have with being able to lower fan level.

On a side note it really does work good for heat.  I think I will be moving it out of my room tomorrow.  Temperature went up a bit and it seems to be heating my room pretty good.   There is also a projector in my room that put's out a little free heat.  But the Avalon 6 is most of it.   So those looking for free heat I can vouch this unit will do it.

Somebody told me that some guy was making death threats on the site, and never got banned. They begged me not to say the person's username, but...I don't know how long I can respect their wishes. The person didn't get banned because one of the moderators happen to be friends I think. Edit: I thought* sorry my English isn't spot on.

This site is looking more and more....questionable. I am surprised it hasn't been shut down. Honestly, we should just shut this site down if people's lives are getting threatened, because that is a total extreme.

"Somebody told me that some guy" is kinda second hand info the person getting them would really need to come out.  And to be honest if it's credible or person is scared from them I don't think forum moderation is who you to go I would guess police, possible agency depending on country.

And honestly them not banning someone could be to collect more info on the person hoping to get real IP.  I mean it's all speculation.  But that somebody needs to decide if they feel worried over it or if it's a troll.  If true threat... contact proper authorities.

This site is the biggest bitcoin forum I don't see that as questionable. You cant hold the site responsible for what someone types.  And honestly this really is something more for it's own thread it's kinda not on topic with original post.
Somebody should be able to report it to a moderator, and a moderator should report it to police. Sad

You should have your friend start a thread as this is getting this one off topic.  But I still think it's the person who needs to report to police.  They know if real threat with real info, or some troll.  Moderators do not know a lot of the specifics.

But again this is getting off track of thread.  Go to meta - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0 and make a topic of your own if you feel it's a issue that needs discussed.  As I don't see death threat linking with account asking to be unbanned .

I was looking at the art again.  Like I said I kinda like the design.

What I suggest trying to in next set is use something besides plywood if your going to spend time on it and want it to be considered art quality wood might be the way to go.  I would add some 3d effect to it have the B logo possibly on a layer or two up, to have it not painted on wood sheet.  Also link the B, it does have 13 look a little much.

I would make one post see reaction.  Get feedback hopefully a buyer or good advice on what to do different in next one.

Possible new speculation on miner:

The kangding data center will perform maintenance on 26th Nov(today), will last for 12 hours. all s5 miner is in this data center and will be effected.
BTW, I will release new s7 miner soon, it will be a future option, the miner will be online around 1th Feb.

If I read that right possible new s7 variant?  He has been good before on speculation of future miners.
4131  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: septriya.com - tuhorimada.com - zhouminer.com - Mining ASIC scam? on: November 26, 2015, 02:26:21 AM

Zeus was legitimate, but never made a 300MH scrypt miner - ALL of their miners were quite a bit lower than that - and they never achieved the efficiency level claimed for that
monster.

till they said they were gonna make the 300 MH miner then they started ripping off a few some got paid back a few still haven't, then some one there was in law suit under a different name, i even bought a few of the low end ones, i wanted to upgrade that was one of the selling points of the so called volcano, yea they were legitimate til they went bad . The pictures every one sees was what it was suppose to look like, but any one can get them off of Zeuses  site. So anytime i see some one any place trying to sell the volcano ,i steel clear of that site, after, i have a good laugh .

As many others said the 300 from Zeus does not exist.  As a general rule if you see a rendering and no real product almost always it's a scam.   Sadly many do this throw up a rendering... try to get pre-orders that never come.

The only rendering that I believe will hit market right now is B11 miner - https://www.bw.com/pool/miner .  They have a lot of backing and I think it will hit market eventually.  But pretty much in most cases a rendering is sign of scam.

Good evening ! anyone there ever mined in Scrypt cc ? I only have trouble getting .... Huh

I would stay away from it.  It's calculator seems to good to be  true to me.  I don't see ROI'ing in less then two months.

Anyone used them before?  It appears to me not so good from calculator on page.
4133  Other / Meta / Re: Post count for member is "leet" what does this mean? on: November 26, 2015, 02:18:34 AM
simply means 1337 posts ,its a geek ting
I know what Leet speak is. I just wanted to know if it is valid in the forum or not.
We are not entitled enough to be elite around here only a selected few.  Cheesy

It's kinda a easter egg on the forum.  If you see it yes it's valid.

It's not a entitled few or being special.  Everyone can hit it with 1337 which it shows as leet.  Normally it does not last long as one more post and he loses it.
4134  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: November 26, 2015, 02:10:57 AM
Don't think it isn't patently obvious that the only reason you opened this thread in this particular sub-forum is to trap noobs into believing you are legit because here they can't see the red writing under your username that shows you to be untrustworthy.
I prefer not to argue with a hypocrite having a criminal mindset like yours. You are stupendously shedding blind eye against certain obvious scams (read AM hash, Genesis Mining, Bit-X, Hashie etc.) on this forum which was pointed out to you by various persons at different time. Your only motive to use your DefaultTrust position is to weed out any competition legit/illegit whatsoever.

This post is meant only for the general public to know that when I created this thread, I was doubtful about www.cloudmining.website. At that point, cryptodevil was not in DefaultTrust. So, I had no reason hide my trust rating, which has been turned red by cryptodevil for not supporting his preferred cloud mining operation.

Now, people, judge yourself.

Why do you put Bit-X as a obvious scam?  They have confirmed hardware from Bitfury.  Can you point to a thread or something to back it up on anyone being scammed?  They are mainly a exchange, but do have cloud mining.. confirmed from Bitfury.

Also care to tell us the reason you removed signature? For those that have not seen he has been wearing a cloudmining.website sig for months.  His trust got hit from wearing it amoung other things.  Are you distancing your self from site?

4136  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: ASICPuppy.net - COMPAC ($34.99) - AntRouter R1 ($49.99) - ANTMINER U3 ($44.99) on: November 25, 2015, 11:49:16 PM
Quick question, can the R1s work as a wifi repeater?

I think it needs a hard connection to your modem or other router and then it can broadcast a wifi signal, but I do not believe it can receive a wifi signal and the repeat it out again like a signal booster (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Mine is kinda acting as a repeater, it has a Ethernet cord connected R1 and it put's out it's own wifi.   So if you run a cable you could put the R1 at end and have a AP going there.

If you mean connecting to wifi and then acting as AP.  I have not tried this.
4137  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which raspberry pi model? on: November 25, 2015, 11:43:47 PM
Hi all,

I'm working on a hobby project to basically set up a solar powered raspberry pi with a couple of usb miners on it. It'll have a couple of 10w solar panels and a charge controller with a battery pack sufficiently sized to continue operations for an hour or two should a cloud pass overhead ... which it does a lot here in Denmark :-)

Anyway, as far as I can see there are four different Raspberry models. I'm looking at the first generation B+ model because it uses a bit less power than the 2. generation. Downside is that it is single core vs. the quad core 2. gen.

With these self contained usb miners, does it really make a lot of difference how much cpu power you have on the Raspberry? Am I better off saving a few milliamps of power by buying the 1. generation B+ model, or will I be paying for that later on because it mines a bit slower? Will a single core be enough to fully take advantage of one or two or perhaps even ten avalon nano's?

And yes I know that this thing will never pay for itself. It's just a hobby project to give me someting to play with in the weekends ... nothing else :-)

-Michael

I can understand I have my own lotto projects that likely will never pay off... but I enjoy them.  Honestly if your just running a cgminer instance on a few miners you will have no issue on B/B+ vs 2.

I had my compacs running 2 instances to be able to OC some.   I had no issues with model B+.  Just is not a whole lot of heavy usage, it was just a controller for them I did not really multi-task.

I pulled the B+ to be a controller and hooked up a RPI 2 I had to use with controlling compacs.  There was really no difference unless you surfed the web or something with it, which most likely you wont be doing. Boot up is faster, but again since boot up once not huge.

In my eyes you can't go wrong with either one.
4138  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks Not Open Yet on: November 25, 2015, 11:38:37 PM
the numbers are too high but if people keep adding gear they will become true.

yesterday we made about 151 blocks  today we made 141 with an hour to go.  so in two days  we will be at 302 vs 288 or  only 5%.

It is a USA holiday tomorrow my we only do 140 blocks.

I am thinking after 3 days say 10pm New York East coast time on Thurs we are about 4 or 5%

I like 5 percent much better then 12.  Seems bitwisdom really is highly effected by last, which is scary to look at.

I had some family things today and will have some tomorrow.  I'm hoping slows down for the holiday, but with a lot of the gear staying in China I have a feeling they will keep pumping out and hooking up Avalon 6, and Bitmain S7's and not observe Thanksgiving.
4139  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer U4??? on: November 25, 2015, 11:35:21 PM
With all due respect notlist3d, you need to get out more if there is "life changing" firmware....  Wink

Hmmm maybe I oversold it Smiley.  But it is habit changing at the least lol.   I had 3 U3's running on windows I could count on every morning after waking up fixing 1 or more zombies.  And going to bed fixing 1 or more before going to bed.  And there were random ones through day.

Now I have my R1 from crazyguy and I dont touch them, it just keeps solo mining.  And beside them I have my compacs on a RPI.  So it's turned into lotto mining I don't have to touch for most part it just keeps going.
4140  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Looking for Tips to Start a Faucet on: November 25, 2015, 07:19:01 PM
As the title indicates I'm looking for any tips on starting a faucet. I pretty much have the faucet already set-up, but am looking for things like who do faucet owners use for advertising income? How much bitcoin do I need before starting up the faucet? If I'm planning on using advertising funds to keep the faucet going how do I start generating those funds before starting the faucet?  Huh

There is no trick... pay more then the others = more traffic.  But you have to keep under what ad's pay.... so your talking about very very low payments.

It honestly is not worth doing at this point.  There are so many faucets and faucet rotaters already... and most people have seen that it's not a good way to spend time.
