4141  Other / Meta / Re: Connection problem error on: August 15, 2018, 09:19:44 AM
There was a query in the merit stats which became too slow and ended up jamming up the whole database. Possibly it was pushed over the edge by new bot activity, but no intentional DoS attack AFAICT. Or maybe my fix from yesterday's unrelated database issue degraded performance. I'll look into it more later. In any case, I think I fixed it for now.

Idk if it something to say, but yesterday everything stated after I click the Top-merited replies, all-time. Waited for some time and came a weird error on the statistics (looked like a quoted message with "Error #2349890238*"  and I was thinking to take a screenshot but then I decided to click the other statistics but they all were OK. When I clicked back to the Top-merited replies, all-time again to make the screenshot, then I lost connection to the server and I got the rest of the errors below..

(*)- I'm sure for error code began with #2 but for the rest of the numbers are just random.
There were 5 different errors I got during that time, here are the last 3 i recorded >

4143  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: August 14, 2018, 11:52:52 AM
I'll add one for now:

Have more options for polls. For example, ability to restrict certain ranks from participating, not showing the poll results after vote but to show the results only after the end of the poll.

In addition an option to delete the poll if you have put it by mistake.

Great list, can't wait to see theymos reaction on this one. I guess I have to wait a lot as usual. Wink

I will add two more requests:
- report button from the search engine /For those with a report badges/
- An option to see if the post you are reporting is already reported by others, so we skip the double work on the both sides. /again for those with report badges/

This is turning into a sig. spammy thread as the OP already broke one rule.
32. Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

Read the rules before you start flooding the forum with posts, coz crying afterwords wont help you.

If you have your question answered, lock the thread ->in the lower left corner, you will see the link .

A nice, fat Homograph attack is here, just found it by chance >
This guy quoted two spammers without knowing that they are using homographs, but random ones to avoid detection.
See the picture under the quote with the yellow markings of Cyrillic letter "a", nice ah?

That did not take long

Thank you man, just tested it and updated the OP.
Finally got rid of those closing List tags, it took me quite some time to research even I use a Notepad++  to be sure there were no open tags but gave up at the end. They are somehow auto-generated if you have an open list tag somewhere, idk just crazy
Thanks for the help again.
4148  Other / Meta / Re: RED Trust...is it enough for fraudulent work ??? on: August 14, 2018, 09:02:30 AM

Things that can get people negative trust from a DT are:
Attempted or successful fraud or theft.
Business activity that resulted in the loss of funds by others.
Account sales
Merit sales / swapping
Harassing a DT
Offering escrow without a track record
Asking for a no collateral loan
Shilling / advertising MLM or ponzi
Escrowing for themselves
Late loan repayments / loan defaults.
Any other untrustworthy or illegal behavior.

Sorry for the off-topic here but this is really valuable information, so I want to ask xtralev if I can use this quoted piece in my [Guide]How to detect rule-breakers.Techniques and tips. of cource I'll mention my source Smiley

I guess there was some problem with database, noticed something weird, when I merited someone it took around 1 min to update the merit count, normally it takes a few seconds.
The second wired thing was a strange error on the "Top-merited replies, all-time" rest of the links in the merit statistics were OK but clicking the above mentioned link returned something like this >
Code:
Error:  #235458937

I should have taken screenshot of it too but..

The site was down for more than 15 min. I saw later that theymos was online probably he fixed it.

That results in 277 Newbie accounts that posted at least one of those. I'll list them here, and I'll start reporting them on my own. I'll see how far I get.
Yesterday, I've reported most of those homograph spambots (click my quote for the list). Most of the posts got deleted by a Mod, but most of the accounts didn't get nuked.
I would like to know why, as this was a terrible waste of my time. There is no legitimate use for a homograph attack, there were about 200 accounts bumping the same thread in the same style, and getting one post deleted for each bot does no damage at all to the bot owner.
Up to yesterday, the homograph spambots would get nuked after being reported. If they're no longer getting nuked, that is very discouraging to report them ever again.

The ones that I reported before never got nuked. Only the posts were deleted, actually not all. That's why I was pushing to get them added to the rules. Not surprised that bit part of the time is reporting them is wastes.
4151  Other / Meta / Re: IDEA: Merit token on: August 13, 2018, 08:30:33 PM
Ok so the merit thing was a bad idea, I get it. But if you cut out the merit part, it is a good idea! Pay fee>get tokens>spread your ico announcement>additionally reward users with tokens. Bitcointalk get a piece of the pie too. So everyone wins and the scammers/spammers stay away because they know their shitico is going to get identified as scam sooner or later and they won't want to pay the fee > Less spamming campaigns on Bitcointalk.

How is this a bad idea?

Well, part of it is already implemented as you need a copper membership to post images, so in a way you have to pay to the forum to post your project /in a proper way/.
It seems that til now you have misinterpreted the whole idea of the forum. It's not a place to work, and the main source of income, the bounties are just a side effect of the new projects appearing here, looking for advertising.
The greed of the people turned the forum into a trashcan of shitposters trying to get as much as possible income from the shittycoin/token projects which from the other had are looking to scam the new "investors" to get rich quick and easy and willing (sometimes) to pay the bounty hunters.

Of course there are some legit projects but to spot them in this mess of scammers it's like real mining, you need to dig a few tons of dirt to find a piece with the size of rice grain.

Just a tip, do something good for the forum and you'll see that it will pay you back...

Welcome man, you and I know that the way up is not easy but it's worth it because this place need fresh new people who care about it.. not only new abusers.

4154  Other / Meta / Re: [RUPL] Ranking-Up Pipe Line of Forum Members on: August 13, 2018, 02:05:19 PM
Since the OP's work was inspired by me, I will give him one more idea to work on if he wants.

Can you list who gave the missing merit to rank-up to those who ranked up to Full Member and above?
I guess if you list the ones that move from jr. member to members will be quite a long list, but you can do it too if you want.

P.S. I just turned another Full to Sr. Member, ( btw Congrats mdayonliner)  and I love it Smiley

I can't wait to get my PC back online to play a little with your database.
I just want to list all the users with 9 , 99, 249,... etc. merit and some other fun stats.
BTW My PC is still offline ... Sad

Zapo's thread is what most of the managers have to learn from.

Welcome to the Sr. Member club.
4156  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies and Lending section. Suggestion. on: August 13, 2018, 01:05:52 PM
So I assume it's possible to get a loan even if your account is a newbie account. "No Collateral, No Loan"
The imposition of such restrictions will not have any effect.

There's no problem to be newbie and get a loan if you have a proper collateral but 99% of the newbies wringing there are just begging for money without even reading the local rules for the section and they do it over and over again just to scam someone. That's why Vod is patrolling there all the time.

OK, no need to be a total restriction, maybe just a warning message when you open a thread like in the securities section

Another bump here.
Please suggest threads to be added to the lists. I'll try to keep it up to date:)
4159  Other / Meta / Newbies and Lending section. Suggestion. on: August 13, 2018, 10:59:20 AM
Huge part of the brand new/newbies asking for loans get tagged as they don't read the rules, of course big part of them deserve the red tag as they most likely are scammers/beggers, but they just create a new accounts and start "fishing" again and again...
To avoid that a good solution is to restrict the access to the brand new/newbies to the section.

The benefits :
- No more "fishing" for loans from newbies
- Less work for the DTs
- To create account only to beg/scam there it will take you at least a month
- People who have no idea of the rules will have enough time to get know them before posting for loans.

4160  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Announcing BPIP - The Bitcointalk Public Information Project! on: August 13, 2018, 09:27:31 AM
Can we list the top 50 member hoarding their sMerit, based on the merit they have recieved?
It will be a good way to track their activity to avoid further merit abuse.
