4181  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Email received from Binance, Matter of concern ? on: January 17, 2023, 04:24:20 PM
Now what is binance concerned about here? If we received bitcoin from sanctioned country or person, our account will be at risk ?

I guess that best would be to ask the support people about the e-mail.
I have no idea if it's about the source of some coins or fiat, I have no idea if it's about their so-called p2p platform. But maybe, with some luck, the support knows this.

I'm sure the user probably has a good idea as well.  Was crypto recently deposited into Binance from a trade with a partner you may not know well?  Did you receive a wire transfer from someone else?  I would assume a person knows if their deposits came from their bank, legitimately earned coins, or if a 3rd party sent coins to their account for some reason.  My guess is that OP probably bought crypto or traded for it with someone who did something shady, or maybe they funneled their deposits through a coin mixer, leaving Binance feeling the need to send a warning to make sure the OP knows that how they're getting crypto is not the right way to do it and they won't be able to continue letting them trade using this method.
4182  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC bulls back? on: January 17, 2023, 04:20:45 PM
People are starting to ask me about Bitcoin again.  There's definitely an interest and the regular folks are noticing that we seem to have bounced off the bottom.  This is usually scary for me, as when the regular folks start taking an interest in BTC, that's usually the worst time to be in the market.  I'm not sure we're there yet though.  I haven't been getting questions from the "usual suspects" yet.  I feel it coming though.  Be careful and don't try to trade this market with any leverage.  Ultimately, I think we'll move up and the bulls will start running, but I also think exchanges are foaming at the mouth to liquidate customers when given the opportunity and that will cause volatility.
4183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 17, 2023, 04:17:52 PM
Feels like the market is catching it's breath after the big move upward.  Holding here and moving sideways would be a great sign that accumulation is still in play and another big move upwards is in the cards.  I wouldn't be surprised to see the market jump up to $30K and then have another long sideways journey.  This should be the new norm rolling into the next halving in April of next year.  The name of the game now is how many BTC can you get your hands on and off of exchanges.  People who thought they owned BTC in FTX will be forced to buy more if they want to own BTC.  Exchanges that want to stay afloat will need to buyback customer BTC.  Same with investment funds.  I don't think we're done quite yet.
4184  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 17, 2023, 04:14:42 PM
^Congratulations to all the winners.
We have 4 games tomorrow but they are good matchups.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Toronto Raptors - Bucks -3.5 I don't want to get greedy here even if they are the favorites. Giannis already missed 3 games due to knee injury and there's a chance he won't be present in this game. The spreads look questionable though as if he will play. Let's see.

San Antonio Spurs vs Brooklyn Nets - Nets -5.5 I still think Kyrie Irving could carry this team, he just needs that good night and this might be a revenge game after that bad loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder where he only made 15 points in 38 minutes. I am thinking he will pour some stats today.

Denver Nuggets vs Portland Trail Blazers - Nuggets -6.5 Nuggets all the way. 6th straight win, it will look bad if they will stop that streak at their home court. Murray and Hyland are probable to play. Jokic could handle it.

Going for live betting on the last game.
Good luck everyone.

Those seem like no brainer bets on the surface, but then you see that Durant is injured, Giannis is injured, Jokic is not 100%, and things get a little muddy.  The Nets should be able to take the Spurs anyway, but the Bucks and Nuggets might struggle if their stars aren't ready to come back and play at a high level.  I think I'll sit this one out today and wait for a little more clarity on the health of these guys.  Hopefully the upcoming all star break will give the league's stars a chance to rest a bit and get back into being ready to play at a high level.  It's a shame how injuries have become such a huge part of the game.
4185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 17, 2023, 04:11:27 PM
Too early to assume, but like what the post above said, betting for the future champion might be a good idea if you have that trust
to whoever team you are supporting to win the title.
It's difficult to predict who the champion will be this season. Denver Nuggets being on the top this season after that 4-1 loss in the first round against Golden State Warriors. Then, there's the Sacramento Kings at the fourth spot. They cannot be ignored, Domantas Sabonis is playing the best time of his career averaging a double double and so is De'Aaron Fox.
Then another, the Memphis Grizzlies, Ja Morant is not even in his prime yet, but he plays like he is. 23 years old and he became a scoring machine. With Desmond Bane back, he got more help. That's just the Western Conference summary, East is not far in win difference too.

It is nice to have gotten beyond the Golden State Warriors vs Cleveland Cavaliers every year Finals appearances.  The Warriors have aged themselves out of domination a bit and LeBron jumping teams and the mess in LA seems to have ended his run.  I think Giannis is probably going to dominate the league for a bit here if they can get some more talent around him.  Ja Morant's game is awesome, but I'm not sure it translates well in the playoffs.  Denver and New Orleans to me also have a shot at a multiyear championship run, but they both need to keep their rosters intact and avoid injuries.

"Removing trust from physical coin makers re: Priv Key generation"

easy.. don't make keys for your collectibles...they don't need it

There are Bitcoin collectibles, and there are Bitcoin themed collectibles.  One is an innovative product where the maker publishes lists of the keys used and has the products backed by something, an organization, physical BTC, usage case, etc...  The other is a trinket someone made and slapped a BTC logo on (maybe even including a non-vanity key with no use or published list as an afterthought).  People should be able to identify the difference and not get fooled into paying BTC collectible markups for BTC themed collectibles.  An example I would give is the difference in price I charge between a 1oz silver Bitcoin Binary round and a 1oz silver NastyFans Minted Seat.

Nothing wrong with Bitcoin themed collectibles, I own many, but there's a huge difference between a themed collectible that has a logo on it versus a collectible that can functionally interact with a blockchain.

I agree that you are right Bitcoin themed collectibles don't need a private key, but they are not in the same product galaxy as a functional collectible with a private key.
4187  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 1SPLiTKEY is a solution to prevent creators from sweeping physical collectibles on: January 16, 2023, 05:00:34 PM
When using this sort of solution, is it possible to verify that the information needed to redeem the funds held on the collectible is legitimate without compromising the collectible?  My question is with regards to resales by the original buyer.  Can a second party verify that whatever information will be needed from the original buyer will work?  When I looked into this sort of solution, I determined that resales would be too dependent on the original buyer holding accurate information and transferring it to a potential new buyer, and this was an issue because people lose things and blame others.  How would a secondary buyer know that the information they have been given from the original purchaser is correct and will work?  I should probably know this but it has been about 11 years since I researched all this before making a decision how to move forward with my coins but my assumption is there is still no way to verify this information without compromising the collectible.
4188  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 16, 2023, 04:54:36 PM
The Lakers are coming from a back-to-back game and are 19-23 against the spread. so I do not think it is good idea to bet on that line.

Ya, but the Rockets are tanking on purpose while the Lakers are desperate to try and stay in position for a playoff spot.  I think they should be able to win today.  By how much, who knows...

There are a couple games to watch on TNT tonight.  First Miami and Atlanta.  I'll admit I won't tune in for this one because I don't care about either team and don't think either one of them have a chance to get past the first round in the postseason.

Then we've got a little more excitement in the later game on TNT between the Grizzlies and Suns.  Always great getting a chance to see Ja Morant on tv.  He's got the most bounce of any player I've ever seen.  With the Suns still missing Booker, the Grizzlies may take home the W.

Possibly not something that you are interested in, but I figured I’d bring this to your attention in the event that colorized coins related to Bitcoin are your thing…

Colorized, capable of storing Bitcoin, .9999 silver… Probably more affordable than you think as well. Smiley

Good luck with your search.

I think it's good to explore ways to keep people honest.  That being said, personally, it has always seemed to me that people are willing to sacrifice some of their security for simplicity.  I thought about offering coins with the suggested methods but I don't believe anyone would actually prefer that and assumed the level of education and assistance that would be required for most users would be more than I'd personally be willing to take on and I don't think the users would want that either.  I'm not saying it shouldn't be done or that there isn't a market for it, but my ultimate solution was to try and make coins that were cool and demonstrated the ability to hold BTC, but wouldn't require deposits to load them or eventually hold so much BTC that if it were lost by the user it would be life changing.  I'm often criticized for my coins not holding more BTC, but I'm not sure those complaining consider that I didn't ever want to be the guy that generated keys that held thousands of BTC for others.  I wanted to be the guy that made demonstrably cool coins...

I think a standard of 2fa or multisig being established for makers wouldn't be a bad thing and maybe for loaded coins it should be something customers should consider.  However, I only own 1 2fa coin, the 1000 BTC Casascius Gold coin, and I'd honestly prefer if it wasn't 2fa.  I believe coblee even once said that none of the people he sold the coins to ever even asked about the 2fa, making it beyond worthless.

Wouldnt the 2Fa be an issue like with Titan? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5369583.0

Again if a website isnt kept online or anyone operating it is corrupt then it aint such a great idea IMO.

2fa could be done in different ways.  I'm not sure exactly how Titan did it as I never purchased any of their goods (what had they done before selling those coins to earn the trust required to offer such a product?), but if it relies on them being around in the future then they definitely did it poorly.  If I were going to implement it, I would have done it in a way where the user would have supplied a piece of the information used to generate the key.  Maybe 2fa isn't the right descriptor (split key generation?), it definitely isn't my area of expertise.  The problem however with the way that I looked at implementing it, is that the resale of the coin would be heavily dependent on the original buyer providing the new buyer with the information needed to access the private key (like in my coblee example above).  This would likely result in buyers losing their piece of the puzzle and funds being lost, or new buyers not getting correct information from the original owner, etc...  It would be a customer service nightmare.  That's a big part of the reason I did not go that route.  Simplicity and customer experience being the others.

Feels to me like the market is catching it's breath after the latest rally.  $21K feels like a good level for a pause.  We may even see a bit of a correction here as shorts load up again and longs close out to cash in profits.  It's been a crazy week.  This rally, even if it retraces a bit, should be like a warmup for the actual bull run.  How did your holdings do?  Are you happy with your portfolio?  Maybe it's a good time to take a look at what you're holding, what you expect, and make sure that you have the right balance for when Bitcoin really makes a move.  If $16K to $21K got you excited, then $21K to $200K is going to blow your socks off.

Basically what I'm saying is that there is guaranteed money to be made when buying the mystery image and selling after the big reveal.

It's human behavior, and there's money to be made off that IMO.

WYGT?

I think you're right that there's money to be made from this, but I think it will be in the form of shorting the top from all this nonsense.  In my opinion Solana should be near zero, along with BNB.  The fact these coins are pumping now shows that people still don't understand the risk involved, why they pumped to begin with, or what makes crypto coins valuable.  The Solana community is the most profit chasing community I've come across and I can't see this ending well for them.  It's lost over 90% of it's value since the peak and I think it's still overvalued by about 95%.  Sure, I could be wrong.  Maybe big money is still interested in pumping SOL.  That's what's happening though.  Few are buying these coins for anything else than to sell to a bigger fool later.

Reports saying that the Lakers are trying to talk LeBron into riding out this year and then in the offseason they'll try to get Dame or Beal.  I honestly think from a business perspective, this is the only thing that makes sense with Westbrook's contract.  They're going to have to eat that money and then try again to get a championship level point guard.  I'd personally love to see Dame and LeBron play together, as they're both a couple of the best ever at what they do.  They're both getting pretty old though.  I hope there's still time for them to play at a high level.  In any event, this is bad news for people who wanted to see the Lakers in the playoffs this year.

4195  Economy / Speculation / Re: Countertrading Jim Cramer on Bitcoin on: January 14, 2023, 05:25:14 PM
It’s almost unimaginable just how much the market rallies against Jim Cramer’s predictions. It’s almost like he’s setting off movements now with his horrible calls. Nobody could just be that bad at predicting. It is like the opposite of Nancy Pelosi. He’s got to have some sort of agenda and insider info. I don’t believe anyone could be consistently so bad at making trading calls. There has to be something else happening here.
4196  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 14, 2023, 05:21:20 PM
They were something like 12:1 and 15:1. Not bad scores. I’m not even sure what made me bet parlays today but here we are. I didn’t know that the Joker was out to be honest, but it worked out. The Jazz, Timberwolves and Pelicans also came through with wins as I’d hoped. The Nuggets game was the final piece to the puzzle though.
That's nice, lucky break.  Wink I ended up betting for the Nuggets too in my parlay which is a blind bet just to increase the parlay win.
I maybe was tempted because I bet early, it was -1.5 when it opened, but when Jokic was announced unavailable, the spread moved in favor of the Clippers. The home team should win the game against a visiting team that does not have their best player...  This one turns into a big trap.  Sad
I knew it early, and the trick is if you cannot find them in player props. Bookies have the means to know who will play or not earlier than the news comes out.
Check it out, for all our bettors here. Injury reports can sometimes be deceiving but the bookies won't lie especially if the bet will just be voided later on.

7 games later.
Charlotte Hornets - Boston Celtics - Boston Celtics (-5.5)
Minnesota Timberwolves - Cleveland Cavaliers - Cleveland Cavaliers (-4.5)
Utah Jazz - Philadelphia 76ers - Philadelphia 76ers (-3.5)

Betting for road teams. This will be risky. Good luck to all of us.

The Clippers are always dealing with injury. I may have still bet the Nuggets even if I knew Jokic was out just because they’ve been playing great lately and the Clippers are constant under-performers.

I will say I don’t think I’ve ever hit 2 parlays in a day before and this was one of my biggest wins ever on a % basis. First bet I’ve made in a while too, so I’ll go ahead and say there was some luck involved.

I don’t bet very often, so a win like this will probably fund my gambling needs for the rest of the year.

I’ve never stolen any money from anyone and definitely the opposite of a bootlicker… Unlike you and the coldkey scam you’ve been promoting… Funny how people’s insults are reflections of themselves. Smiley

I’m sorry for your losses. It’s pretty clear by now you could be better at judging who is and is not worthy of trust. Maybe you should work on that.

68,323 fans in attendance with the legends of Spurs watching the game. Wow!

I just saw at the end of the game that this was the attendance record. A strange game to be the record but cool nonetheless. The Warriors came through and delivered a great performance. They also got me a game closer to hitting my parlays tonight. If the Nuggets and the Kings win then the rest of my night is going to get very interesting. I’ve got a 5 game and a 6 game parlay that are both still in play. Smiley
Then it's a win for you. Both teams that you mentioned did win their respective games. Nuggets especially who were underdogs while the Kings covered the -10.5. How much were the odds of that parlay? I bet it is huge.
Speaking of parlays, here's one of my parlays that is just too sad to look at.

Bad bet on the Clippers, I was thinking they'll easily win because the Joker is not available, but it's just unfortunate that the opposite thing happen. Denver Nuggets dominated the home team beating them by 12 points.

No Joker, no problem for them as Murray and Porter Jr. have led the team against the Clippers.

Leonard scored 24 points, but he does not get more support from his teammates.
I thought so too that's why I avoided this game as there's a chance the Clippers will get the win and I don't like the spreads with just +5.5 for the Nuggets before the game started.
I think they are overwhelmed by the pace of the game as the Nuggets didn't go slow. Without Jokic there is no need to stay longer at making plays that will start with him. They just run and gun and shoot threes.

Looks like we’re about to break through $20K. Could happen in the next couple of minutes. I wonder if we’ll blast right through or see a short term rejection from this level. I do believe whatever happens today in a month from now we’ll be higher with much higher levels on the horizon. I think a lot of BTC needs to be scooped up for fund managers and the like to meet obligations and that story isn’t don’t playing out yet.
