421  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: June 22, 2013, 03:28:05 PM
I see them as a quicker vehicle to more BTC than my miners can currently produce mining BTC on there own or even on bit parking. Mining alt-coins ans cashing out for btc quick has proved most profitable

Since the exchange rates move with BTC, it should come out about the same.
422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoins for Edward Snowden. on: June 22, 2013, 03:26:16 PM
The guy makes $200k+ per year while working at the NSA, he probably don't need money right now.

Actually, he lied about that, too.

Just be aware that you'll never even come close to breaking even at those prices.
424  Other / Off-topic / Re: Xbox One on: June 21, 2013, 09:18:25 PM
However, The PS4 is indeed cheaper than the xbox and offers everything related to gaming as the Xbox does. Except the Kinect which is **** anyway.

I only bought the Xbox 360 because of the Kinect, and I only play Kinect games on it, with the exception of Rock Band/Band Hero games. The Kinect is revolutionary for exercise games. I am waiting to see if anyone takes advantage of the new Kinect features for exercising. If so, it may eventually be worth it to me to get the One.
425  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin - we have a problem. on: June 21, 2013, 09:14:35 PM
It takes days for a wire transfer or a check to clear with massive fees Tongue

You really need to look at what bitcoin is equivalent to.

Wire transfers are almost instant now - and cheques are being phased out.

You need quick confirmation times otherwise you will never be able to purchase items in shops - if someone is trying to pay at the checkout and they have to wait a few hours before they can take their goods - it is not going to work

There are green addresses that can alleviate some of that, though I personally don't care if bitcoin ever makes it into the local walk-in market. I just want to use it in the digital world.

You might not personally care - but for Bitcoin to be a success issues like this need to be resolved.

Your response sums up quite nicely how most of the bitcoin community behaves. I am ok Jack but screw the rest of you.

The more time I spend on this forum the greater my concerns are about the long term viability of this project.

There may as well never have been a whitepaper because so few people understand why Bitcoins were created.

I don't think so, I don't think bitcoin needs instant transactions to be successful.
And there are green addresses that allow that for those who do really need it so the problem is just ignorance of those who need it but don't know about green addresses.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Green_address

Tell me how I'm supposed to do any transaction in person if we have to wait 2 hours for confirmations? They'll have to start putting movie theaters on every corner to help pass the time. And if you have to pay for breakfast and buy gas on your way to work, you won't get there until it's lunchtime.
426  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB on: June 21, 2013, 09:11:12 PM
So when will they come down to a reasonable price? It's ridiculous how over-priced they are. They will probably never pay for themselves.

If I were to buy one, I'd want it to pay for itself within 2 months. That means my ideal price is currently $50. Let me know when it drops down to that.

I think the days of instant ROI are over.  Even folks getting BFL devices have to factor in the year-long wait before they started to make their money back.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Block Erupters are overpriced at 1.99BTC as well, but I bought one just for kicks.  Anything else I get will have to be cheaper.

If it's not going to pay for itself in a few months, it will probably never pay for itself.
427  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB on: June 21, 2013, 07:57:39 PM

you can buy them from me.... see my signature

I'm personally in it for a long term relationship that would allow me to pop the question. I personally know of people that dated MANY years before considering popping the question, but I feel I want to get on with my life sooner and get married. While that doesn't stop a woman from say cheating or leaving you, it still strengthens a relationship, does it not?

No, it does not. It gives her absolute power over you and changes the direction of your life. All of the dreams you have are null and void if you get married. Oh, sex is over too within a year of getting married. Anyone that wants to find out if I'm right or not, put a penny in a jar every time you have sex the first year of your marriage. After the first year take a penny out of the jar every time you have sex. The rest of your life will be spent trying to get the pennys out of the jar and she will spend the balance of them on her next husband when you're dead.

It doesn't nullify your dreams if your dreams included getting married and your wife has similar goals and values. And I'd have to say that while we may not have sex quite as often as we did the first 6 months, nearly 20 years later we're still having it pretty regularly. And this is after having several kids, too.

You sound bitter. Get over it and choose a girl / woman that suits  you better... Seriously  ,guys like you are making me mad. You are probably 80 % responsible for what happened between you and your ex-wife. Taking the responsibility for this comes with your man-card. But it seems you revoked your membership. Renew it, move on and stop blaming somebody who was just acting accordingly to your behaviour. Women are like that. I guarantee you if you don't change some of your behaviour , history will repeat itself.

- A happy man.

I'm not bitter at all. I just don't like being controlled in a relationship when all I was looking for is sex and friendship not a mommy. Women especially after they have had kids can't help but mommy their husbands and it's really hard to have your mom talk to you all day then have sex with her that night. My second wife was great and has lasted more than 18 years. I'll probably ditch her soon though because I'm a selfish prick and she's getting too old.

Perhaps your problem is that you went into the relationship looking for sex. There's a lot more to a marriage than that.

Yes, it strengthens it immeasurably if you're both committed to it.
431  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using two 7950s on: June 20, 2013, 07:24:08 PM
I just received a Kill-a-Watt in the mail last night, and hooked it up to see how many watts this thing is actually sucking. It averaged around 640 for the time I had it connected, sometimes actually going above 700 (my PSU is rated for 700). The weird thing is, it had been running steady for nearly 2 weeks, but it had trouble keeping up the hashrate while plugged in to the Kill-a-Watt. After I removed the Kill-a-Watt, it went back to running normal again.

Without cgminer running, it actually uses twice as much as my main PC (with an i7 CPU) playing Tomb Raider with a 7770 GPU. I guess a P4 CPU probably isn't the most efficient choice for a mining rig...but it was free.  Smiley

Although, you may get killed or seriously injured by a bus!

Them is the risks you take - and they say bitcoin is dangerous!
Smiley

Good point! In my case, most of my commute is on a paved trail away from motorized vehicles. However, the portion at the end that is not reminds me that mountain biking (which I also do) is actually safer than regular road biking!  Shocked

I'm so glad I'm married and don't have to worry about all that crap anymore...  Wink

Don't worry, you'll eventually find someone better, and then you'll be glad you're not tied up.

As a wise man once said, "marriage is just long-term financing on a piece of ass."

Oh, and someone let me learn from his mistake (as he was going through his divorce): "I never knew you could take half of nothing until my divorce..."

Well, you can be cynical if you want, but there's a lot more to it than that. And we've been going for nearly 20 years so far.
434  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin - we have a problem. on: June 19, 2013, 08:25:38 PM
Everyone who can should run a USB ASIC miner (or more) that would help a little with decentralising.   It's a shame they're priced a bit high though.

Just because it's an ASIC doesn't mean it's more efficient than a GPU. Those will have to be a lot cheaper before they really make any difference.

Agreed, but it does open it up mining to a wider group of people with, e.g. a notebook, or a MAC, etc. that aren't running GPUs.

I know it's not brilliant, but it's a step in the right direction.  And I see a new pool being setup which is also needed - diversity in equipment and pools.

I'd love to get a 28nm ASIC setup but realistically can't expect a large percentage of users to buy these.  So the centralization looks set to continue...

It only opens it up to a wider group of people that can't do math well enough to realize they'll never even break even.

So my rig with 2 7950s is currently bringing in about $2.63 a day...

Yesterday I started commuting with a new bike that I bought for almost the same price as my 2 GPUs. With the current price of gas, I'll save about $5 a day that I ride it to work and back.

Guess which one is most likely to pay itself off in the next few months?  Cool
438  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cloud Hashing on: June 19, 2013, 03:51:11 PM
This is basically a scam.  Charging 949 for 10 Ghs is hilarious.  Buy a miner that is faster for ~300 $.

Where do you get even 10 GH/s for $300 without having it be worthless by the time you get it?

(As others have said whilst I was typing), same place that cloudhashing do, KNC Miner.

If you can't afford a full unit, join a group buy like this one...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233624.0

10 GH will cost you 2BTC ~ $216

(No connection to/in that group buy myself, just first one I saw, there are others)

And if KnC is even 3 months late in delivery, you'll never break even.

www.kncminer.com (the provider of cloudhashing BTW) -> $200 x 10GH/s

And they plan to deliver in September

Right, like I said...  Roll Eyes

Also, KnCMiner's cheapest advertised unit is nearly $4,000.

Snowden is looking more and more like a treasonous liar.
