Anybody else feel that way?  Or am I just old?  LOL

Yea watching the charts takes it's toll. Barely got any sleep the last 2 nights.

Like a crack addict - check it before sleep, waking up to pee, first thing in the morning.  Yeah.

Nice to know I'm not alone, even in the peeing thing, LOL

link to first of 3 part series on how to make a masternode on an EC2

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/how-to-set-up-ec2-t1-micro-ubuntu-for-masternode-part-1-3.240/

Part 1 shows you how to open a server with Amazon
Part 2 shows you how to set your master node up
Part 3 shows you how to update your masternode Smiley

Ha ha, I'm drinking my girly drink, Grand Marnier, LOL and feeling better Wink

Them apples are pretty darn good, to be honest.  It's nice to have been noticed finally!  Only I goofed up.  I voted 500 million, but I think we may hit a billion!  So far, we have done as Evan wanted, followed in the path of Bitcoin (first cpu only coin, then gpu, and a long time just sitting there flat, then noticed, etc...) only it all happened far faster than it did for Bitcoin.

I really don't know how payments are going to work yet.  Evan is testing something right now, but I think he was the only one running a masternode, and he said it's still buggy.

I think Evan will eventually put together an AMI on Amazon for easy setup, quote from darkcointalk "We will be working on creating AWS AMI’s for you to use as well as Ubuntu ISO images ...."  Right now, it's the cheapest place to run masternodes.

Geepers, I feel so burned out from all the excitement these past couple of days!  I'm so glad the price dropped even so I lost coin.  It was just too much excitement for me, LOL

Anybody else feel that way?  Or am I just old?  LOL

I suggested something to Evan last night.  Imagine this;  The master nodes are decentralized.  There will be a lot of them by the time this gets going, therefore they are another decentralized service.  What if you put the blockchain on them to serve up?  What if wallets don't have to hold 17 gigs of blockchain, but are all lightweight due to the MasterNodes serving up this information when needed?  The lightweight wallets for bitcoin use a centralized solution, and if everyone used only lightweight wallets, the network would be easily destabilized.  Not with MasterNodes.  MasterNodes could enable everyone to use a light wallet!  Now thinking along those lines... can you think of other things DarkCoin MasterNodes would be able to do for everyone?  Just use your imagination...

I floated exactly this idea, and then it came to pass... ;-)

Yah, I'm thinking other uses might be an exchange, or how about that dark...er... commerce thing?  We could make a decentralized ebay-like bidding site.  We could also charge a VERY minimal fee for it, and make a lot of coin for the masternodes that way without dipping into mining rewards.  This would make the masternodes worth more when the mining rewards dip even lower.  There are endless possibilities.

Thank you. Is there a link that explains "master nodes". I like the coin and want to support it but I'm just not very tech savvy to be honest, though I'm trying to increase my knowledge.

I think it's better to diversify the hosts. (reliable + DDOS protection included)

I wouldn't disagree.  I'm just thinking it's better than running it off of your desktop at home Smiley  It needs to be a dedicated server, IMO, to protect your stake.  That 1000 coins is worth 1600 bucks right now!  I don't want to see anyone who doesn't know what they're doing lose their coin, more than I care about the network.  That would be painful to watch.

We all understand this, but frankly, no serious users will ever use a closed source system.  But to relieve your fears a bit, integrating DarkSend into an existing coin will be very difficult.  According to Evan, the developer, it will take someone with real skill and it will be very easy to break your existing coin.  Second, most of us believe we have something special just because we have Evan Duffield as our developer.  This MasterNode thing is going to enable us to do things not thought of yet.

This plus the dual licensing (yes me again with this  Grin)

That would be great, but I don't have enough knowledge of licensing to know if it's possible.  There is also the probability that it would simply be ripped off anyway, and then what could we do?  Sue?  In a court of law?  Either you function outside the system or enslave yourself to the system.  The community already pretty much "polices" cloned coins by not taking any that don't offer anything new seriously.  Sure, scams are everywhere, and newbs get taken for a ride, that's life.  Everyone has to beware and careful in the wild west.  But this is a different world with no guarantees.

Best place I can think of is going to http://www.darkcointalk.org and reading the developer thread and newb section.  There are tutorials in a sub-section for newbs.

If you were to do a masternode, please do it on a server such as an Amazon EC2 tiny and use a well vetted tutorial such as the one on that site.

Will the Draksend feature become open source?

Yes.

That to me is a slight concern.
Here is why. darkcoin is one of the few coins that has something beneficial and different. Clones are sure to appear.
If Darkcoin is to have a market cap in the tens of billions or even hundreds of billions, as it becomes more widespread, then it needs to get the marketing right IMHO.

Otherwise someone will come out with a clone called "goodcoin"...and I think that the wider community is far more likely to go with something like that than Darkcoin.
I belive at some stage if the coin wants to fulfill it's potential the name will have to change.
Just my 2 cents

I think the masternodes network will make Darkcoin into something truly unique. Running a masternode will provide even more incentive for people to invest in Darkcoin on top of the privacy aspect. I think the sky is the limit with regards to price.

I dont understand why people keep using the words "pump" and "dump" in the context of Darkcoin.  The price increase is the correction. This coin was undervalued for a long time. It was like there were Ferraris for sale at 1K for a long time, some people were able to recognize that.  Now the Ferraris are going for 10K, it is still incredibly cheap.  So just buy what you can while you can, sure there will be minor corrections along the way, but it wont really go down to previous levels, BECAUSE THE VALUE WAS ALWAYS THERE, you just needed to see.  And the people that know what they have in their hands wont sell it for cheap anymore. The cat is out of the bag, and a 5USD DRK is still bloody cheap.

Just a little food for thought, those masternodes will become extremely useful  Wink  Not just for hosting DarkSend transactions.  I just finally bought back in with my stupidly sold dark, at 50% loss (because the price went up so much), because this coin will never be so cheap again, not in 30 years. (no worries, I still have my "core" darks)

Is a 100 character long password enough to secure a master node on windows? Or is it necessary to get a third party encryption?

Attacks on your system in windows probably won't be coming from cracking your password.

I wonder how Eduffield is doing today  Cool

Whenever I think of Evan, and he's been silent, I picture him with his nose glued to the screen, manically typing code, oblivious to the world around him, LOL.

But it's Friday, so it's more likely that he's partying with his buddies, and having a beer, LOL.

Then again... last time we hadn't heard from him all weekend, that Monday, he put out a big Beta, or was it RC1?

That's funny, I picture him sipping a glass of Drambuie and dictating code into the Starship Enterprise main computer....

LOL, I'm actually picturing Linus from the peanuts cartoons (like when he's playing piano), so Me=old, you=geek Wink  LOL (I'd rather be you!!!)

Since the talk about the prices have finally calmed down, let's get to work as Minotaur26 suggested some pages ago.

I think we should try to refocus, this is all very exciting, but lets get to work. As promised I am contacting merchants today about adding DRK. Some examples:

  • TheCryptoDepot
  • Bongocoin
  • Cryptosextoys.com

Will continue later today but I have to run some errands right now. Lets retake the marketing projects.  I have some English/Chinese fluent friends, what do we need to do in that front? Would love to get China into the game.

Yes, and unfortunately we can't really translate the website site until it's re-written.  I'm not exactly sure what is holding that up, or if it's getting finished, just not announced yet.  But as soon as it is completed, there are several people who are ready to translate it for us.

I asked Evan if I could update the first post, and I did what I could remember wanting to do, but I know I had other ideas.  Unfortunately, I don't remember everything, but I know it'll come to me.  I've sent it back to him for review.

If you have ideas for the website, write 'em up!  I'll try to do the same.  It's late now here, so I'm getting tired, but yah, we can start writing content, explanations etc... and the web designer can choose that / modify it to his liking and integrate it with the site.  I'll try to do some tomorrow Smiley

There should be a "dead cat bounce" on this latest correction. Waiting, waiting, waiting...

What's that?

When the price of a commodity falls rather quickly it oftentimes "bounces" back up.

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/deadcatbounce.asp

"A temporary recovery from a prolonged decline or bear market, followed by the continuation of the downtrend. A dead cat bounce is a small, short-lived recovery in the price of a declining security, such as a stock. Frequently, downtrends are interrupted by brief periods of recovery - or small rallies - where prices temporarily rise. This can be a result of traders or investors closing out short positions or buying on the assumption that the security has reached a bottom. A dead cat bounce is a price pattern that is usually identified in hindsight. Analysts may attempt to predict that the recovery will be only temporary by using certain technical and fundamental analysis tools."
!
Oh crossing fingers that there will be a continuing downward trend!  LOL  I want to buy back my drk!  I still haven't done that yet.  I know the coin is gonna be worth 1000 usd, or more, but for now, I want my coins back and to be forgiven for trying to play the market, ROFLMAO, I've got no business messing around like that, no talent, LOL.  Better to go to Vegas and throw coins in the slots, LOL

Crypto can be crazy sometimes but I don't think many DRK holders are silly enough to bail out now.

DRK has actual substance and innovation. The few people on this planet able to see that are holding. These people never got involved with the ShitCoins. The FadCoiners are going to run through DRK just like any other AltCoin, but what remains is that it's actually a good coin and the people who take a look at it, and have the capacity to understand that its not just another ShitCoin, are going to hold. Everyone else is still jsut going to pump and dump it because they don't know anything else and haven't bothered to see what DRK is made of. It's just another pump and dump without even looking. There will be a residual of people who figure it out, but it's still going to be abused by the typical humans.

I am 100% honey badger about it. I've chosen to bet on intelligence and science. Not that such a thing is a sound bet in a society of shaved apes, I simply can't believe in a species that goes extinct from it's own stupidity... There's got to be enough smart ones out there to recognize and float an idea like DRK. If there isn't, all hope for humanity is lost. That's a world I just won't live in. So, I bet on the idea that it'll work, because if it doesn't, I'll be dead anyway and won't need the money. Why not take the risk if I won't be around if it fails anyway?

Yah, you'd think.  But some of us that know better were stupid (ok, it's only me, LOL)  45 dark I may never see again!  My buy back order is probably way too low.  Don't want to lose as much as the market says I should, LOL

maybe the android wallet hasn't been made yet because darksend isn't finished?

Well my feeling is that you wouldn't need it for the first version of the phone wallet. I'm interested in Darkcoin but I think the message should be that Darksend is an option, not something that's part of every transaction.

I hope Even doesn't think like you. DarkSend should be part of every transaction(in the stable version) not an option! That's the whole point of Darkcoin after all. We don't even need an option to not using DarkSend IMO, at least not GUI one.

That is the stated plan Smiley

Dang it, I can't log into Cryptsy, there is a warning on the login page that says "A security error has occurred"

Anyone experience this before?

I've experienced the same damn "I'm gunna lose all my coins" paranoia symptoms that your experienceing now.

Cryptsy is as cryptsy does.

I know there have been problems for people all the time with them. You're reading Ape's experience today and panicking.

I have a load to get out there too.

If it's not being able to login, it's not being able to withdraw..... or deposits to hit.... or balances showing incorrectly.

but remember.... cryptsy is as cryptsy does.

Well, thank you for that.  My fear of losing my coins forever comes from stupidly selling them late last night, LOL.  for 3 months, the price peaks at 1-4 AM PST and then drops 11AM to 3 PM.  So the ONE DAY I decide to test this out by maybe earning a few extra coins... had to be today!  Talk about lack of talent at day trading, LOL!  And I KNOW i have no talent!

No big sympathy though, it was only a few gambling coins, didn't risk most of my stash.  Maybe bitcoin will go up, LOL

Of course, those 45 coins will be worth 45,000 dollars some day, so it's nothing to sneeze at!

Is there a newer one than what is published here?  http://www.darkcoin.io/
Where is the new wallet at?
I am using the download from the website.
 Huh

I'm sorry, the front page really needs to be cleaned up.  Maybe that's what I can volunteer to do, I'm not good for much more than that ;P

But anyway, the developers have been super busy, and it's just not up to date.  I think you have to use RC1 which you can find here:
