421  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken Accepting MtGox Bankruptcy Claims on: April 28, 2015, 08:54:02 AM
Hello everybody,
Like all of you i received the information about the possibility to fill a claim.
I personally prefer the option to not use Kraken, there is absolutly no guarantee anyways to retrieve anything and it is clearly stated that if anything happens with Kraken you wont be able to claim anything back.
In other words your last chance to retrieve any bitcoins or cash disapear.
So i went on the process to fill the form not using kraken, i am wonderring if any of you tried that option and what happened as for me i filled all information and at the bottom of the page i was up to do the last click to send the form and, surprise...
http://prntscr.com/6xyntn
The submit button do not work ... what a bad joke
If anybody could confirm me that it is the same for you...

I use kraken to trade Bitcoins for some time now and personally, I do trust them. There's really no reason to believe otherwise. Even if kraken stops doing business, it doesn't mean the mtgox case vanishes. Why? The case is still dealt with by Japanese authorities. Kraken is just like a service partner, consultant, whatever.
Actually, I'm glad that there's an established company who takes care of it. They might take their cut, or they do this for marketing reason, I don't know, and I don't care.
For me it just makes the whole process so much easier. It took me 5 minutes to fill out the form. Submit button worked fine for me.
Now, I only need to wait for an email from kraken. Or a bank/bitcoin transaction.
I don't have to check some announcements everyday and be worried about missing some deadline. I also don't need to get in touch with some Japanese authorities or whomever if kraken didn't take care of it. Until then, thanks kraken.
422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Clones on: April 24, 2015, 03:04:44 PM
I'm thinking, what if, I will create a nxt clone, then distribute it fairly, then those who forge a block, can sell it for bitcoins with a fixed value and the later the block forged, the higher the value they can exchange it for.

What would be the problem, if any, using that setup?

Your only problem is that nobody cares.

lol ok. thanks. i was just thinking out loud. Smiley

Seriously, if you're not presenting something revolutionary and have some top-notch marketing ideas and a professional team with big names, people will either ignore or fuck with you.

But it's a good way to learn about cryptos for yourself. And who knows, maybe in the process of learning you have some cool new ideas, or decide to improve Bitcoin or other alts. But maybe you also just wasted some time  Tongue

it would really help your credibility to post some proof of your claims

why do you expect people to believe any of this?
not saying you're a liar but you are also not the first 'i am/know/met satoshi'
426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Clones on: April 24, 2015, 08:12:54 AM
I want to ask something.

There are so many bitcoin clones since it is open source. I also saw cryptonote. And nxt. What do they get by creating a clone? Why not focus all the efforts to bitcoin?

Some coins offer additional features, have different technical specifications, different marketing, etc
Some people make money with creating some scam coin, e.g. they pre-mine coins, create some hype, sell their coins quickly.
Others just enjoy creating their own currency.
There are many reasons to create a new coin - legit and shady motivations.

Quote
Also, how much does it cost to create a new coin?

If you do everything on your own, nothing. There are websites offering the creation of your own coin. I think it's just around 0.1 btc.

Quote
Also, if I have, say 20 bitcoins, and buy some clone with a low market cap, now I have a big share, will it drive the price up?

If you buy the coins of an almost dead coin and no one cares, no. Some people will just be happy to get finally rid of their trash.
If there are a few people who think "wow, this is the great rebirth of this wonderful shitcoin, I should buy some more", maybe. However, the price might alraedy go up when start buying.
But then, what do you do with the coins of this dead currency?
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: boycott bitcoin2.0 scamcoin they are crashing the market on: April 21, 2015, 04:16:50 PM

If there will be a true  innovation these altcoin creators should raise funds in fiat from VC .  But why don't they ?  There is no innovation , only cheat ( at least most of them).

Your talking doesn't make sense at all. On one hand you believe in Bitcoin, on the other you don't want people to use it and demand the use of fiat for crowd funding.
The reason why Bitcoin is actually used for crowdfunding is because those people think Bitcoin are better, easier, etc than fiat.
Again, Bitcoin exists to use and not collect it.
And having alternatives to Bitcoin shouldn't be any problem for Bitcoin itself anyway. If the world of finance works more or less with hundreds of currencies, why should the crypto world function with several, too?
Regarding cheat. Yes, there is cheat. So what? Be aware, inform yourself, don't fall for it. But you even complain about coins like maidsafe without having the slightest idea what it is. So my guess is that you were too greedy in the past, invested in some truly scam coin, and now you look for someone to blame.  Grin
428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: boycott bitcoin2.0 scamcoin they are crashing the market on: April 21, 2015, 09:20:19 AM
Yes , at least  bitcoin2.0 scamcoins really contributed a lot in 2014 market crash .
Ethereum , bitshares ,  MaidSafeCoin , Mastercoin , Stellar etc.... what they did is the same ...

Congrats, dumbest post for a long time.
First of all, competition is good, boycott is silly, the market decides.
2. the more products/ services (yes, even scam coins are products) you can buy with Bitcoin, the better for the Bitcoin economy. The point of Bitcoin is not collecting but using them. Cryptos are obviously not your thing, because you don't have a clue about economics, so maybe you should focus on collecting old toys or paintings as an investment.
3. before the Bitcoins were dumped by the evil developers, they were bought by the investors. That means if any devaluation happened, than it was devaluation of fiat money but not cryptos.
4. when you talk of scam coins, you could at least have mentioned scam coins (e.g. Paycoin). The ones you talk about offer something different/ additional to Bitcoin. I mean, if you really think MaidSafe is just about a decentralized internet, then it shows that you clearly have no idea.
5. why do I even reply to this...?

Aliens were nowhere mentioned on the website, so I assume it's not legit.
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is "Variety Jones"? on: April 15, 2015, 09:21:02 PM

Nice!

Can I ask what your profession/activity is?

Thanks. Sure, I work as a freelancer, currently marketing for a start-up. In the past, I did mostly internal communication projects within big companies.
431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is "Variety Jones"? on: April 15, 2015, 06:31:14 PM

Fair enough.

However, what makes you think that SR was not a 3 letter agency project to begin with?
It has been said by Ross before that he is NOT the original creator of SR and apart from that we all know how the 3 letter agencies "work" right?

Thanks for your input though.

EDIT: You do know that most hackers smoke pot or do some kind of drugs right?
What makes you think Edward didn't?

Sure, anything is possible. I just think it's so very likely that some character like Ross creates SR. Everything fits: young guy, open-minded to drugs but not too extreme, living in San Francisco, interested in teachings of Austrian school of economics, internet savvy, free and careless spirit.

Further, DPR was anti-government and he created things like the Book Club. The government would neither have these ideas nor like to promote them. This also is a big difference towards Snowden. Snowden is not anti-government. He just doesn't like that an agency is capable of acting without the control of senate, congress, etc.

I've watched many interviews with Snowden and in my opinion he seems pretty focused and analytical. I don't see a creative and hedonistic person but rather someone who acts very rational and organized.
I wouldn't be surprised if he prefers to endure a headache instead of taking an aspirin. Just my impression, though.
432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is "Variety Jones"? on: April 15, 2015, 02:49:29 PM
OK, don't bash me if you think this is stupid but.....

Did any of yous considered the fact that Edward Snowden is VJ?

I won't bash you and welcome all theories but I think it's stupid...

What Snowden revealed has a much bigger impact. Everyone is affected. His revelations influenced world politics and economics.
Silkroad, even though it made millions, was a small niche in the global drug trade. Only a very small percentage of the population have even heard of it. Even smaller the amount of people who used it.
Honestly, I don't think the NSA cares very much about SR. Maybe only if they want to give a new employee a training project.

Ross is a dreamer who thought he can change the world through his idea of a free market. And make lots of money, have fun. He has this careless and free attitude.
Snowden is a pure idealist. He wants to improve democracy. He is convinced something on a large scale goes terribly wrong. He knew he has to give up his freedom and economic benefits for his believes.
433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is "Variety Jones"? on: April 06, 2015, 10:28:05 AM
I thought vj's identity was already known? He was the owner of some big cannabis seed company, there was a video posted apparently featuring him. He was getting shouted at by some other guy about something.

I know that's not very helpful. I wasn't really paying much attention at the time and I watched the video on mute!

im sure it was on reddit...

Could you look for that video? that would be awesome..

Search for "Gypsy Nirvana PlanetGanja" on Youtube. I think there was a part 1 and 2.
The shouting psychopath is Gypsy Nirvana (currently in jail), his "victim" is allegedly VJ, but I'm not so sure about that.

435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did Satoshi managed to stay anonymous? on: March 29, 2015, 04:58:45 PM
Satoshi is a group of people. Satoshi's coins are stored in multisign wallets. If one of the group starts talking or by accident revealing his identity, the others will move the coins to new multisign wallets, excluding the 'traitor'. Thus, there's a lot of interest and pressure among the members of Satoshi to remain the anonymity.

439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21 Jobs on: March 11, 2015, 09:49:18 AM

What did you know would be a scam? I am under the impression there is at least 21 jobs for 21 who has a nice stack of cash to spend within BTC.
To answer op there is not much we can tell from there job page except they would like your email and it is fairly neat start page i guess, how do we know it is legit until i know this i will not register my email.

Just joking. Of course, there will be more than 19 or 21 jobs, probably 50+

On the bottom of their job description we can at least find some hints about 21.

About us
People compare Bitcoin to the Internet. Well, the Internet required an enormous hardware infrastructure buildout before its potential as a software platform could be realized. That's where we come in. We believe that Bitcoin isn't going to happen simply by dropping a line of Javascript into a webpage. Someone needs to build the full-stack infrastructure for Bitcoin, from silicon to software. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Peter Thiel, that someone is us.
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21 Jobs on: March 11, 2015, 09:13:53 AM
I only count 19 jobs.

I knew it will be a scam
