421  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer, Ubuntu, installation pains. Any Help? on: April 30, 2013, 03:18:29 PM
Unless I am mistaken, and anyone can feel free to correct me, but I think your problem is you are trying to mine off integrated graphics.  You cannot do that.

yeah, the graphics are on the MB. I'm not sure whether it is a separate chip or attached to the cpu. Is there a reason integrated graphics can't be used for mining?

There is one PCI Express slot on the board, so if i can't use what i have i'll get a low power graphics card. For me, this is just a hobby, so it doesn't have to be profitable.

Cant tell you the specific reason, I just know I've seen several posts saying you cant do it.  Im sure there is some sort of GPU dedication requirement or something technical that I dont know the specifics of.  But yes, if you get a card for your PCIE slot you should be able to mine off of that.

Since I like to ask questions that apparently have already been answered, yet I am completely oblivious to, is there a way/how do you check what version of CGMiner you are running?

I've been lurking around for quite sometime now. Where can I find how many hours I've been active for?

Really its a combination of both.  I have a 5830 that sits under a desk that I burnt the stock fan out of within a year (running at 100% all the time is never a good idea).  I then strapped a delta 120 on it and it did its thing. Yes, noisy but yet.  That eventually died.  Now I have a delta 92 on it.  Still does the trick at keeping it around mid 70s and is less noisy than the 120.

The delta fan blew out???  I thought they lasted forever.  I run the delta at around 80%, I'd rather replace the case fan, then replace the gpu fans.

I probably could get away with that, if I used some sort of fan controller.  But i dont, just plug it directly into a 12v and let it go full power.  Maybe next time.

427  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMiner splits hashing load between two cards, does not accept -d argument on: April 25, 2013, 05:59:39 PM
Increase the intensity. Nothing will operate at 100% potential with dynamic. Increase to 13, report back.

dynamic?

I changed to -i 13 but all that did was slow down my laptop to where the GUI would barely respond.... still around 90mhash each card.

i tried upgrading to 3.0.1 but seems it will not detect opencl

I think he means remove you -d argument.
428  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BAMT 0.51? Where? on: April 25, 2013, 02:29:44 PM
I think I just answered your other post, haha.

According to the creator, BAMT was never updated because of lack of donations.  So, its up to the users to figure it out.  He says he is still somewhat working on .6 but who know when it will come out.

As for updating CGMiner to get it to work with Litecoins and stratum servers, it works and Ive done it.  Use this tut.  If I ran into one problem while using this with connecting to the eclipsemc servers to download the updated version. If that happens to you, download it in windows, upload it to Dropbox, and then use a Dropbox link to download the tar

If you need help, PM me, Ill be glad to help.

Once I get litecoin working, I'll work on that.

So far I'm having nothing but trouble getting litecoin working. I THINK I finally got cgminer updated. Then I make a config file and run
./cgminer --config cgminer.conf" only to be told "--config: JSON decode of file 'cgminer.conf' failed". I copied over example config files. I have no clue what's going on.

I dont know what that error is, but you have to create a conf file, and then in your BAMT conf file tell BAMT that you are 1) using cgminer and 2) that you are using a conf file

Also, make sure you are logged in as root (and change the default password)

first start by editing your BAMT config
cd /etc/bamt/
nano bamt.conf

once in here, scroll down at the top a bit until you see where it talks about smtp, at the bottom of that, add these lines

cgminer: 1
cgminer_opts: --config /etc/bamt/cgminer.conf

now scroll down to where you enable your gpus (gpu 0, if you are using just one card), delete out the line that says disabled: 1 and then add this line where that was.

cgminer: 1

Exit and save.  Now you have to create the cgminer.conf file you just referenced

nano cgminer.conf

This will bring up a blank screw because its a new doc you just created.  Here is where you will put your configurations for cgminer, including your litecoin pool info.  Just do a search on the forums or Google for examples of files, copy and paste over, change your pool info, then exit and save.  Probably at this point its a good idea to reboot so:

coldreboot

Once back up, log in as root again, then go to gpumon to check the status. It should show you connected and mining.

Most people are either using ubuntu and installing cgminer.  Here is a guide I saw for a centos

431  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New rig, no hdd, only usb stick on: April 24, 2013, 08:54:31 PM
So I got bitcoin mining up and running on it with BAMT which is cool. I unplugged the monitor cable after I had it running to use my normal computer while that rig mined. When I hooked the cable back in today to see how things were going, it stopped mining the entire time until I replugged in the monitor cable. What's up with that? I never had that issue in Windows.

BAMT is meant to be run headless, no monitor, no gui.  So once you get it up and running, unplug the monitor and do everything via SSH.  Find your IP address for the machine, get Putty, and SSH in and use gpumon to check status. Anything else you need to change/configure, do it all via SSH.  It gets picky when dealing with a monitor.  Trust me, learn SSH to do what you need to do, I did, and it runs much happier with no monitor.
432  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer, please take pity on me... on: April 24, 2013, 08:51:37 PM
ok, this is where i am at presently:

configure: error: Missing required libcurl dev >= 7.18.2

i'm not sure what to do about this, libcurl3 is installed.

sudo apt-get install curl
433  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer, please take pity on me... on: April 24, 2013, 05:42:26 PM
My knowledge of Linux is next to nothing, the most of I know is from dealing with BAMT.  Looking at the instructions though, and how you would go about downloading and installing an updated version on BAMT, try this

cd cgminer
./autogen.sh

435  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Why are some risers powered and some not? (PCI Express) on: April 24, 2013, 02:17:51 PM
I think it depends on the card and if it has PCI-E power connectors from the PSU or if it gets all of its power from the slot itself.  For example, I have an unpowered riser on a 5870 and runs just fine, but it has connectors to get its power from the PSU, not from the bus itself.
436  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New rig, no hdd, only usb stick on: April 24, 2013, 01:57:18 PM
I'll give it a try in a bit. Is it difficult to set up mining for litecoin and other altcoins through BAMT?

If you use CGMiner inside of BAMT, and update it to the latest version, you should be able to mine Litecoins.
437  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New rig, no hdd, only usb stick on: April 23, 2013, 01:19:46 PM
Its situations like this that BAMT was made for.  I have 2 systems running it with no HDD, just flash drives.  Its essentially a Linux distroed made to do one thing, mine Bitcoins.
438  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: HOW TO UPDATE CGMINER on BAMT 0.5.c on: April 23, 2013, 01:56:39 AM
Mobius, will there be instructions on updating to 3.0 now that its out?  I believe this is only to update to 2.7.7.

Did you happen to read the third post in this thread?

Actually yes I did, and it does not specifically say "do this every time to download the newest version and keep up to date".  Sorry, some of us actually look for definite statements instead of inferred ones.  But hey, thanks for your help  Wink
439  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1423GH] ABCPool PPS - Proxy Pool For High & Steady Mining Rewards on: April 22, 2013, 06:47:30 PM
Unfortunately I do not have a separate system to test this on just yet unless I move cards to a Windows system.

It seemed to have been working fine before I updated CGMiner in BAMT to 2.7.7, which I needed to do in order to connect to stratum servers, but now I cannot connect to ABC.
440  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Quick newbie question Windows mining on: April 22, 2013, 06:34:34 PM
I think its a RAM VRAM issue if I remember reading this in the past.  32 only supports 4GB and thats both combined.  So if you are shoving 2GB cards in there, it may not see them all or support them fully.  Best to go with 64 and not have to worry about that problem, and if you are running 4 my guess is that you will most definitely be running into that problem.
