@wattson I got confused, that chat is from sportsbet.io or Stake.gg? As for the chat itself yes it looks a little fishy, but I think you should try their email and ask about it, as they suggested in live support. Maybe Adam was not well informed, and although that should not happen, since that was a normal question, and he should now how to answer it, we can't blame the site for one person. You should actually say on the email that the live support assistant that talked to you wasn't able to give you a clear information about that question.

I understand the need to ask for some kind of verification, otherwise it would be easy to exploit that promotion, but they should of course be clear on what they will ask, before you deposit.

Right now I'm betting at nitrogen, but if some other bookie came up with a promotion like that one from directbet,

what promotion?

The Tipster Championship they used to sponsor. When they were running it, some other bookies made a few competitions like that, but none of them were that complete, or offered prizes even close to the one sponsored by directbet. This was their discussion thread, the competition managers are now trying to evolve that competition since when directbet closed, that competition ended as well, and no other bookie picked it up. It was held for around one year, and I participated in a few editions, although I never managed to the main prizes, but I did get a few from their side competition.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1256522 (their discussion thread, that now explains the new project from the managers)
You can still check the prizes from their last edition on this thread, that is now locked:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1159253.0

The managers have a new idea and looks nice, but from their last post, it will take a while for them to come up with that site.
Maybe they will get some sponsors when they build that. Anyway that was a really great promo, and so far the best competition I ever experienced in a bookie.
423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the invention of the century! on: October 22, 2017, 02:30:37 PM
I would argue that blockchain technology is the invention of the century. It made bitcoin and other altcoins possible, and it has several other applications. Bitcoin is high up the list for sure, as it is revolutionizing the way we do transactions, but blockchain is still the bigger innovation.

I understand what you are saying, and blockchain has an incredibly large range of uses as we keep seeing lately, but although blockchain can be dissociated from bitcoin, I must say that bitcoin and blockchain together are still the biggest invention/innovation or even revolution of the century. The concept of money over IP in a decentralized and secure way is the future of our financial world.

It affects every social stratum in this planet, from undeveloped countries in Africa that don't have access to a bank account, and can now make payments using bitcoin, and receive money from their relatives that went abroad to sustain their families, to the Wall Street guys that are going crazy for the trading possibilities that bitcoin offers. Not forgetting the protections it offers from inflation, since it's not directly linked to any country. This is just huge, and I hope it manages to get through every obstacle if encounters, because we really need something like bitcoin in our society, since banks keep failing us.
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Drugs with Bitcoin ? on: October 22, 2017, 02:14:38 PM
you shouldn't use bitcoin to buy drug, because you gonna make bitcoin worse, drugs is not good for your health and bitcoin will have bad reputation that may be got attention from the governments, they may be ban bitcoin forever.
I am loling but it's not enough, I need some body to lol with me. governments don't care about your health, every year they're earning billions of dollars selling cigars to their people, something more important than buying drugs with Bitcoin for them, banks are going to have their capital moved from private holdings to decentralized ledgers. Bitcoin couldn't be banned even if they wanted to. do you know some body selling drugs for BTC? I'm buying drugs for 10 years paying cash. full fledged lol is in order.

I understand your comment and I agree with it because I think we are way past that "bitcoin is used by criminals" or "bitcoin is used for illegal stuff" debate. But we all remember or read about the silk road black market, that was shut down in 2014. It had some impact on bitcoin at that time, and people used it to prove their concerns about using bitcoin for illegal stuff and money laundering were real.

I don't think bitcoin will have that problem again, specially because there are better options for those type of activities, like using monero or zcash, that are more advance when it comes to anonymous payments. The thing is, that although bitcoin can't really be banned, if we want big adoption, then we want people to feel safe about it. If we want' people to feel safe about it, we don't really want them to still associate BTC with illegal activities.
425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Prediction ligue 1, france football league on: October 22, 2017, 02:00:26 PM
If Marseille could only draw against a lowly Strasbourg, I don't think they have any chance of beating PSG in today's game at all, PSG have not lost a single game to Marseille in 14 games and most games between the two ends with both teams scoring and with more than three goals being scored. This happened in five out of the six games that was played.

Completely agree with you. Marseille wont be able to hold PSG. they did save some players on the Europa League game vs Guimarăes, and that could help them a little, but there is a huge difference between these two teams. I will go for a win for PSG and over 2.5 goals, because Marseille suffers a lot of goals. Conceding 15 goals in just 9 games is just to much. A team like PSG will definitely take advantage of their poor defense.
426  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Portuguese League Prediction Thread (Primeira Liga) on: October 22, 2017, 01:52:18 PM
Going for another bet on the Portuguese league. This time I will make a parlay with Sporting and Benfica. I know that betting on Benfica at the current moment is risky, because they really seem to be on a crisis and are having really bad results when playing away, but their defense seems to be better, at least from what I saw on their game vs Man. United. They lost only by one goal, and it as a big mistake from their goalkeeper.

They can't really lose points in the Portuguese league, so if they defend well again Aves shouldn't score, and they will probably win this one.
As for Sporting, they did a fine game vs Juventus, and need to get back to winnings since Porto already won their game, and have extended their lead to 5 points. Chaves are quite a hard team to beat, but they are not doing as well this season, as they did on the last one.

Given all this, I will risk a parlay on these two teams, betting on straight wins for them.
427  Economy / Gambling / Re: Sports Betting Site Question on: October 22, 2017, 01:44:59 PM
I really liked directbet. A lot of people complained about their odds, but I'm not a pro bettor, so I don't really minded their odds, unless they were incredibly low when compared to other bookies, and that never really happened.

I agree with you, nitrogen seems to have taken their place on the crypto betting world, but I still think directbet was better. Nitrogen promotions are average, and as a hobby bettor, I really appreciate good promotions. Directbet betting competition was the best promotion I ever experienced in crypto bookies, and I'm kind of waiting for something similar.

Right now I'm betting at nitrogen, but if some other bookie came up with a promotion like that one from directbet, I would probably switch to them. So for me, a sportsbook with a very good promotion would beat nitrogen. I would have to trust them of course. Trust and good promotions can really give an edge in this field.
428  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-21] BlackRock Strategist: There's No 'Right or Wrong' Price for Bitcoin on: October 21, 2017, 01:27:45 PM
Of course he doesn't know the right price for bitcoin. He doesn't understand it's nature. This is the real problem that needs to be addressed if we want a good future for BTC. If people adopts bitcoin because of FOMO, then it will be a bubble, because they will always be scared. The only value they see it's their price and not it's utility, so if the price starts dropping they will just panic sell.

I recently read this article, and it's definitely aligned with my opinion, of one of the many valuable aspects of bitcoin:
"Bitcoin has achieved what is impossible for them, the creation of the first truly deflationary currency that’s free from the mismanagement of governments."
https://www.cointelegraph.com/news/clueless-central-bankers-regard-bitcoin-with-envy-hatred

If Richard Turnhill manages to see bitcoin like this, then he will be able to put a value on it.
I hope this happens in the future.
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Strategy amidst the looming BitcoinGold Fork? on: October 21, 2017, 01:12:09 PM
I don't think there is anything wrong with your strategy but there are some hard to achieve points in your strategy. Maybe they are not hard for you, but they sure are for me. You say you will hold BTC during the fork. That's perfect to me, and I think everyone will agree with you on that.

But then you say you will move BTC into fiat, for safekeeping. This is where it gets complicated in my opinion. First, like it happened on bcash, I think you should really wait for a while, before you start moving your BTC around. Nothing should go wrong, but I wouldn't risk it. After that, like you said yourself, there is another fork coming soon (that might happen or not, I'm not sure now, from what I've been reading lately). So bitcoin might not go down at all, and as you convert it to fiat, you might be losing money already, if it continues to move up. I wouldn't convert it to fiat if I were you.

Then you say dump the bgold for cash, or some alt. This looks ok to me, but why not trade them into BTC? Bitcoin's dominance over alts is increasing, and it's already at 58.8%, so I would prefer to convert bgold into BTC and not on some alt.

As for the wallet, I don't think you should have a problem with it. I will keep an eye on their site, and wait for new official releases. If I don't trust any, I will just wait.

So in conclusion, everything looks fine with your strategy, I'm just not sure about that point where you convert BTC to fiat, and Bgold to other coins that not BTC.
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reason why I hate BITCOIN on: October 21, 2017, 12:55:29 PM
It's your opinion and I respect that, but from my point of view you are missing the entire purpose of bitcoin. You apparently just see it as a way to trade and earn some cash. Although it allows you to achieve that goal, since right now it works mostly as an asset, I don't think that's the true value or purpose of bitcoin. If you think the only value in crypto is that the price of a given coin will rise in the future, then you are describing a bubble...

Bitcoin has value on itself. It's secure, decentralized, it's not dependent in the middle man to make a transaction (banks), it can work as a store of value because it's scarce (like gold) but it can be used as an online currency, it's not dependent on governments (so it wont be affected by inflation when bad governments mess up the economy of a country). The list could go on and on, and most alts don't offer you that. Some of them are just used for pump and dump. That can give you profit in short term, but since most of them are just empty, I cant see them as a true investment.

I'm not against trading, but bitcoin can be used to so much more than that. I think you "hate" bitcoin, simply because you don't understand it.

433  Economy / Economics / Re: how can bitcoin help the community? on: October 20, 2017, 07:43:04 PM
Giving good profits is currently it's biggest help to the community, last month itself people were saying bitcoin is really expensive and it's not worth it anymore but today itself it's double the amount at 6000$. It also has a easier trading platform without any broker and less fees

That is definitely not it's biggest contribution, at least from my point of view. The real contribution from bitcoin is to finally create an option for people to don't entirely depend on banks to be able to have a normal life. I'm not against paying taxes, it's important for society and the development of a country. If taxes are fair, it's a way to contribute. I don't really like banks though, and with bitcoin we can now make payments without them interfering, and that is amazing. Also since it's decentralized and not linked to any country in particular (like normal fiat is), it gives you a way to stay safe when the leaders of a country are corrupt and eventually crash the countries economy (take a look to Venezuela for example).
I'm ok with all the search for profit etc, it help bitcoin grow, but I really hope people also see it's true value, otherwise it will become the bubble that a lot of people talk about, since they don't understand it's potencial.
434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XRP or XLM ? on: October 19, 2017, 02:19:57 PM
If you have $1000 will you invest in XRP or XLM?

I'm not sure I would invest in any of them, because their supply is just to big. They are not scarce, so I don't think they will ever be worth that much. As far as technology goes, they will probably be very useful to banks, and I would put my money on XLM because it's now backed by IBM, so it will probably be the one with more potencial. I'm not that familiar with any of them, so this is actually a blind pick on IBM itself, rather than the coin.
435  Economy / Speculation / Re: This guy predicts bitcoin to be $20,000 in 2 years. What do you think? on: October 19, 2017, 02:13:46 PM

From here: https://twitter.com/ICOAlerts/status/912334877801971712

I think $20,000 is impossible, or at least in 2 years. Maybe in 5 years yes.

I think we won't see that price in just two years, but it's definitely an achievable price for the future, specially if we consider the halve in 2020. I think that by that time, we will see the price at least at $10k. Of course regulations will have a major impact on the price in my opinion, and some improvements to the network. If governments start accepting bitcoin as a commodity, and the network start supporting more transactions (maybe with the implementation of the LN), the price will skyrocket.
436  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC speculation before fork on: October 19, 2017, 02:10:01 PM
where do you guys see the price? will it break 6k or will it back to 5200-5400$ and settle there for some time?

I expect some volatility but not as much as when the bitcoin cash fork happened. The bitcoin price seems to recover incredibly fast these days to every bad news it faces. It seems the trust in the coin is increasing, so every time the price crashes a bit, most people see it as an opportunity to buy it cheap. So I do expect the price to go down a bit, but I expect a fast recovery right after it happens, and most people wont even notice it.
Once that happens, it will again signal strength to investors, and the price should continue to rise.
437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Which will be the real Bitcoin after november? on: October 19, 2017, 02:04:42 PM
Scaling bitcoin is important, and right now the network as it is, wouldn't be able to deal with a huge increase in the number of transactions. Things need to be done, but I don't think segwit2x is the solution right now because there are other alternatives to explore before having to increase the size of the blocks.

Also increasing the size could help now, but it wouldn't still solve the problem for the long run, so it's not worth the risk in my opinion, and we are already seeing some mining pools withdrawing their support as well. It's simply not the right time to do it.
From what I read a single person (Jeff Garzik, supported by a small few) is trying to impose his way, and doesn't seem to care about proper testing. I think most people are noy against the possible increment in the block size, and it will probably happen, they just want to go for it later, when the majority consider that is safe to go for the fork.

Russia is Trying to Build a Major Bitcoin Mining Industry to Compete With China.

https://bitconnect.co/bitcoin-news/735/russia-is-trying-to-build-a-major-bitcoin-mining-industry-to-compete-with-china

Yes I heard that, and I think they are going the right way. They are a very cold country and have cheap electricity, so mining there could be very profitable. They seemed to be turning their heads on crypo and ICOs, but apparently they've changed their minds and not only are creating their own coin, but they will try to regulate crypo in a smart way, like Japan is doing.
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you secure your bitcoins? on: October 18, 2017, 10:50:34 PM
Right now I'm using a normal wallet, Electrum in my case, but I think you are heading the right way. Buying a ledger nano or a trezor are the best options for sure. Not saying Electrum is a bad wallet, but there is always the risk of malware and keyloggers on your PC, so the seed or PK could be at risk. With those hard wallets, you should be completely safe. I need to buy one myself.
