421  Economy / Auctions / Re: ASICMINER Auction: 10 Block Erupter Blades on: April 18, 2013, 07:26:58 AM
Also I am deleting my "troll-bid". I am here only to watch.

Sorry, cannot edit or delete in this thread (obviously). Embarrassed. If you OP can, feel free (but not asked) to do so. :-]
422  Economy / Auctions / Re: ASICMINER Auction: 10 Block Erupter Blades on: April 18, 2013, 07:24:10 AM
I have a simpler suggestion which would work without deposits. People biding would sign some message (perhaps the bid itsself) with bitcoin address with sufficient balance (and PM the address).
Also I am deleting my "troll-bid". I am here only to watch.
423  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Problems with bitcoin-24.com WARNING! UPDATE! on: April 18, 2013, 07:06:20 AM
Also Simon should publish and thus verify list of all his accounts at all channels (here, Reddit, Facebook, etc.) signed by his bitcoin address and then repeat this with maybe 3 or 4 other addresses (b24 cold storage, hot storage, ...).
424  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Problems with bitcoin-24.com WARNING! UPDATE! on: April 18, 2013, 12:03:31 AM
The funniest part of this is how the mighty "Libertarians" who were so vocal before about individual freedom and how unnecessary or evil the state is and how ideal a completely unregulated free market would be etc. etc. are now all of a sudden running right back to the state crying "Mommy!" the second they get screwed by someone on exactly the kind of unregulated free market they always said they wanted. Cheesy

Maybe the Libertarians do not want state and police and government (and not even Simon's lawyer actually) to solve this. They want Simon to solve this.

Not a good idea for currency. See Freicoin...demurrage currency ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demurrage_(currency) )

Another bad but similar idea: How about a coin that knows who owns it? This way, coins can redistribute themselves from rich people to poor people each week...and currency ownership taxes can be paid automatically every hour!

Haha! That second idea is just hilariously ridiculous.

This forum is quite a exception in this. Many people on many other discussion platforms would actually think this is a non-ridiculous good idea...
426  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Problems with bitcoin-24.com WARNING! UPDATE! on: April 17, 2013, 11:20:28 PM
I'm sorry, but I really don't understand one question. Bitcoin is not money from legal point of view, why is Simon obliged to send the coins back? It's the same as if u requested to send back electronic letters u sent to him. Could anyone explain?

He's under no obligation. It's a trust issue but he's at a disadvantage as he's known but doesn't necessarily know all his depositors. It's a bit of a lottery really. All it takes is for him not to pay back the wrong person's bitcoin. In that case the law would be the least of his worries.

See the 'protective custody' post above.

There's a lot of paranoid drug dealers who feel slighted at the most minor things. Imagine one of them saw simon's wide open site (with courier cash deliveries etc), deposited and then felt like simon robbed him? He's not going to be going to the law.

This is exactly why I do not understand why Simon is not communicating more and returning  at least our bitcoins. He does not see this threat of some really, really angry customer?
427  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Initiative to help Simon Hausdorf to clear things @ bitcoin-24 <-- SIMON READ IT on: April 17, 2013, 12:26:13 AM
Well yes. Now it is getting too long!

429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] www.terrawallet.com - Withdraw your coins as a Precaution! - Still BETA!! on: April 16, 2013, 11:22:58 PM
I wanted to do an update as another user has come forward to ask about coins.

...
...
...

I must stress that all users were warned clearly on every page of the site that it was Beta and that there was a very real possibility of losing your coins. I regret that this has happened but I must stress the warning listed on every page:
Quote
"Do not lose your password- it can not be reset! As the Value of TRC rises on the exchange we must say again- this is BETA and with no warrenty! Also, don't store more coins then you can afford to lose- this site is still yet BETA and we won't take any responsbility for hacks, intrusions, coding errors or negligence! Don't be stupid. If you think it's real money, treat it like it's real money, and store it in a paper wallet! You can make one here: www.terrawallet.info"

I will be posting the source code for the wallet soon.

Well. It looks that I should be more careful next time and take the warnings seriously Embarrassed. Deset korun v háji.
430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you create an altcoin? on: April 16, 2013, 11:00:02 PM
Amazing effort. I think that rise and/or fall of the bitcoin (and any alternative coins) will not be so much due to external influences, but due to the processes (and personal relationships, personal opinions, and personal interests) within the bitcoin community.
431  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: April 16, 2013, 10:35:09 PM
If you're using stratum miners, but you still uses "api.bitcoin.cz:8332", be sure to use "stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333" to avoid hanging your stratum miner on dead getwork pool...

Sorry for noob question but where do i change that? i use guiminer v2012-12-03

Server: Other
Host: stratum.bitcoin.cz
Port: 3333
(rest should be self-explanatory)

It does not work right now, but when the situation will be ok then it should work.

434  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is the thread where you discuss racism, Jews and Nazism on: April 15, 2013, 03:09:45 PM

On this forum everything can be discussed, even world views that are condemned in the biggest parts of the world.

This will not get you a ban.

What will get you a ban is spamming by either creating dozens of threads on the same topic, or spreading this stuff in dozens of threads.

436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SPAM OR FUD GOING ON IN TRC or Something else??? DEV BREAKS COVER Admits FUD on: April 15, 2013, 01:08:32 PM
I still do not understand if there will be any way to get my coins out of terrawallet? If terrawallet generated TRC address for me to deposit then it also had to generate corresponding private key for this address. Can I have this private key?

My question stands. Will there be any way to get TRC back? I now understand the thing with private key. But crazy_rabbit, you can surely look at TRCchain transactions/depostits/database about which coins were on orphaned fork (not your fault that such tx are reversed) and which were deposited or withdrawn correctly (and those you should give access to, pay or compensate).

In the end everyone has to find his own equilibrium between saving and spending.
There are many opportunities "not to save" and to spend and consume instead (loans, fiat money, decaying goods, mortages, ...). Someone can go to extreme and enjoy everything in the current present moment on the expense on dire consequences later. Extreme example of this are the drugs. The give you "perfect moments", "absolute flawless present". And the ones who wish to live to this extreme should be able to do so. (They should have both right to do so and the obligation to face the consequences, of course.)
Now, please allow the people wishing to live to the other extreme and shift their equilibrium towards "extreme" saving, keeping value, etc. to have tool to do so. Like inherently deflationary currency, like the bitcoin.

Imagine a dreamer with a dream: I wish my grand grandchildren (in 100 years) will be able to move and live on Mars (all paied by themsleves) and my only wish is to conserve value and wealth for them. Without any loss, without any "taxation" and forceful "for the common good of the society" sharing in the meantime. If a sleeping BTC wallet cannot do this, what can? There should be something what does, don't you think?
439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is the block time 10 minutes? on: April 14, 2013, 10:44:43 PM
Newbie but related question:

If I start paying for my groceries with bitcoins, does the store security guy not let me leave with my milk for 10 minutes?  Wont my milk spoil?

Milk does not spoil in 10 minutes :-].

But to answer your question... It is up to grocery. Most probably they will be ok with 0-confirmation for milk. Perhaps security guy will wait for several seconds. You would have to invest quite an effort to double spend, effort unworthy of milk. And if the grocery detects double spend then they have your face on camera or security guy remembers you. And you will not be welcome in the grocery next time.

I would like to point out to my older suggestion of personalized tags for users: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=160900.msg1704296#msg1704296

However, this is probably not the right time (it is too turbulent these days) to promote such functionality.
