423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Lulzsec partly to blame for the bitcoin crash? on: June 12, 2011, 12:23:26 AM
Those coins in the LulzSec tweet have not been spent (ie. not sent to mtgox etc.).
ah, yes. How stupid of me to miss that  Embarrassed
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Lulzsec partly to blame for the bitcoin crash? on: June 12, 2011, 12:15:05 AM
...
I'm certain those blocks of 50 coins were mined, and this transaction was one of the early adopters transfering his bankroll to mtgox.

You don't know how long these were sitting in a dark pool or other reserve before changing hands to someone who actually "withdrew" them from the dark pool / exchanger.
I don't understand what you're trying to say. Once funds are on mtgox there wouldn't be a transaction like that.
425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Lulzsec partly to blame for the bitcoin crash? on: June 12, 2011, 12:10:11 AM
MtGox doesn't let you take out more than $1000 a day or $10000 a month. So 1 guy made himself look like a ton of guys who rushed to sell. Bundle that up with trolls spamming forums with SELL SELL SELL.

Is that what it was?
I'm certain those blocks of 50 coins were mined, and this transaction was one of the early adopters transfering his bankroll to mtgox (there is no limit for deposits, afaik?).
426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin runs but stops generating on: June 11, 2011, 04:04:39 PM
Is 0.3.22 already out for Mac OS X?
Anyway, solo mining with 1.5 MHash/s won't get you too far. Maybe you should try a GPU Miner like DiabloMiner (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/DiabloMiner) and think about joining a mining pool.
yup, it's out.
427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin runs but stops generating on: June 11, 2011, 12:46:27 PM
I am running 0.3.21 beta on my macbook pro with OS X 10.6.7. The app runs well; i get from 30 to 125 connections, 1500+/- khash/s, and my router is forwarding port 8337. However, the app arbitrarily (it seems) decides to stop generating. Sometimes simply reselecting "generate coins" gets it back but sometimes I have to shut it down and relaunch. Any thoughts?
update to 0.3.22.
428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin price nosediving -- sell all my bitcoins? on: June 11, 2011, 08:43:13 AM
i am little afraid, shall i sell now before the price falls below 20 or even 10?

Sell low is the advice I always hear.

this. Sell low, buy high.

431  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fees, Long polling, SSL, JSON API, and more [~850 gH/sec] on: June 09, 2011, 12:18:07 PM
API is currently polling some stats incorrectly. This should be fixed early tomorrow morning.
It appears that my shares are not rising at all, they seem to be stuck at 456, I hope this is what you are fixing because it has really effected my payout.
I can confirm this, but only for "This round". "Total" shares increase as usual.
432  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE's latest updates (an early Christmas present for non-techies) on: June 08, 2011, 10:41:34 PM
dishwara, there are no outstanding asks at 1 btc, so there looks like at least one share was sold at 2 btc. That's why the last price is 2 btc.
433  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: If you were Tycho, would YOU fork it? on: June 08, 2011, 08:06:59 AM
I don't see how anyone in their right mind would do smth like this. If he did people would surely switch, I don't think that can be covered by double-spends.
434  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Dramatic fall in network hashrate? on: June 08, 2011, 08:00:37 AM
what fall in hashrate? All I see is the usual spike after a difficulty increase.

edit: yes, bitcoin monitor is definitely not working properly.

436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Senator Schumer Says Bitcoin Is Money Laundering on: June 07, 2011, 10:32:57 AM
if anybody is in the US and trading bitcoins openly for cash/wires simply change your site and ads around to say 'credits' instead of currency or dollars. that will save you at least 10yrs off your bid as it will be more difficult to prove you are subverting the fed reserve for evil terrorists purposes (yes they will accuse you of this)

"the U.S. Mint, which would like to remind Liberty Dollar users that since the United States already has its own currency, the only thing Liberty Dollars buy in these parts is a jail term." this is basically the same excuse they used to jail dozens of Liberty Reserve/Pecunix/Egold exchangers in the US and the reason why you won't find 1 person anywhere within US borders trading them today
the problem with liberty dollar as I understand it was this

438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: replacing wallet.dat shows no transactions on: June 07, 2011, 05:47:26 AM
You have to delete the "blkindex.dat" file whenever you change the wallet.dat so it can re-search for the block index.  Wink
yes I have, blkindex.dat and blk0001.dat (otherwise I wouldn't get the old blockchain, would I?).
439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: replacing wallet.dat shows no transactions on: June 06, 2011, 10:33:42 PM
I've had this several times happen to me where I would restore an old wallet and there would be no transactions until I re-download the whole block chain from scratch (tried replacing it with recent blockchain nightly from http://bitcoin.bluematt.me/bitcoin-nightly/blockchain-nightly/ but it didn't work either). Why is this happening?

(hoping re-downloading will solve this issue since there is quite a sum on this current wallet I'm trying to restore...)
First off, any wallet created and used with a client after version 0.3.21 won't have this issue. Otherwise, if you are using a client 0.3.20 or higher, just start it with the -rescan command line.
this is a wallet created with 0.3.21. I tried -rescan and it didn't help either. This is the third time it happened to me so I'm pretty sure this is some kind of a bug. It doesn't happen with all wallets though, some work perfectly fine. Wallet has been backed up before all those transactions were made to it, might be relevant?

edit: downloaded the blockchain nightly from 1 day before the first transaction to that wallet was made and let the client download the rest and now it's all there. So the question is: what does happen during blockchain download that doesn't with wallet rescan?

edit2: restored from backup again from block 126000 and now only transactions after that one show up.
