141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Live Discussion on kenija2012 WILL be here in 10 Minutes ~ All Welcome on: June 05, 2012, 08:44:22 PM
Do you desire free copies of Bitcoin Magazine as well to bring to Kenya?

~Bruno~

I have to admit these guys aren't that technically savvy, so I don't know how much good that would do, but if you want pictures of the magazine in kenya I'm sure that could be arranged.
142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Live Discussion on kenija2012 WILL be here in 10 Minutes ~ All Welcome on: June 05, 2012, 08:40:35 PM
Hi guys,

I'm sorry if we missed some questions, turns out ipad isn't the best thing for doing this, but my laptop keeps disconnecting from wireless so we were stuck with that. We were at the coffee shop until they threw us out Smiley but I hope she now knows how to use the forum and will periodically check for new questions.
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Live discussion of kenija2012.net in 2 Hours--All Welcome! on: June 05, 2012, 04:43:01 PM
LIVE DISCUSSION ON THIS THREAD IN 2 HOURS

In 2 hours (2:00 CST in US, use time stamp of this post as guide), there will be an impromptu discussion about kenija2012.net.

@vuce: Please clarify and correct any of the following:

vuce and the medical team that are schedule to go to Kenya this fall will be on this forum live to ask questions of us regarding Bitcoin. All users here are encouraged to participate.

The main topic will be in reference to the following thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=84497.0

They may ask many specific questions about Bitcoin in general, therefore I hope that members here will be able to address their questions and concerns in as layman terms as possible, coupled with offering up appropriate links. I'll be here, as well, doing the best I can, but the presence of seasoned Bitcoiners are truly needed.

This thread could easily act in that capacity for the dialog that's scheduled to ensue in two hours.

Thank you for your support.

~Bruno~

Thanks Bruno for creating this!

Just to clarify, I am not going to Kenya, I am just the "bitcoin guy", so to speak Smiley As such I'll try to educate them enough for them to spread the word around (we're always talking about bitcoin being a perfect currency for a third-world country, right)?

This is a great opportunity for anyone who has questions about expedition to get proper answers (ones I couldn't give myself).
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 100 (time sensitive request) on: June 05, 2012, 03:59:31 PM
If we're given a heads up prior to the meeting, we can easily turn this thread into an online chat for that duration.

Heads up, this will be at 7 pm server time. Smiley

What would that be in UTC?

That's 2 hours from now, so 6 pm, I guess. (didn't see there actually is no "server time", my mistake)

146  Bitcoin / Project Development / Transaction block hash on: June 05, 2012, 02:12:41 PM
I need to get the block hash of the block containing specified transaction. I have been parsing blockexplorer for this data, but it seems to be having some difficulties lately, so I'm looking for alternatives. Blockchain.info json api doesn't seem to have this information. Are there any other alternatives? Thanks in advance.
147  Economy / Lending / Re: How can a newb like me get a 5btc loan? on: June 05, 2012, 11:38:01 AM
You will most likely need to provide a scan of your ID + proof of address to a lender, even then you aren't certain to get a loan.

Why do you need the loan anyways?

I don't necessarily NEED the loan, I'm not in dire straights but I get paid tommorow and I have a local deal for some Xbox 360 hardware and I see the price of btc going up quick so I wanted to get it today. If I don't get it it will be fine though, I also am trying to build some rep and trust here. Thanks for replying with this info

Best way of getting rep is being active on the forum, not with repaying small loans.

What's going against it :
* I do not understand a word on their webpage, other than the "Make a free website with Yola" ads.

* What about a note in English saying, "THIS WEBSITE IS WRITTEN IN *****" < language.

Added some info in English

Yep, she said she was a bit taken aback by how vast this place is, so we'll go through it together tomorrow (today actually, it's 1 am over here) Smiley

Just a quick update: we're meeting tomorrow evening and we'll go through this thread and answer questions that I couldn't have answered myself. If anyone has any other questions/concerns please post them here.

Likewise, if the team has any questions, make sure they post them as well. If we're given a heads up prior to the meeting, we can easily turn this thread into an online chat for that duration.

I still have some updating to do, edd, et al., but on my way out the door to see a man about a barn.

~Bruno~

Roger that, will let you all know!

To help support this humanitarian trip, I've put up a new shirt at SearchingForSatoshi and 100% of the profits will be sent to 1kenyaDrbe2W9KfC7djWAZbAKzSR2aXdX

I'll also be sending 25% of all profits from other shirt sales during the month of June.

Oh wow, this looks amazing!

As I am not the one going to the expedition I am not really in a position to answer that. I sent an email to one of the members so she can answer everything. (btw, what do I have to do to get her whitelisted, just send a pm to a mod?)
I'll preemptively approve this request. Just PM any online moderator, Staff, or Administrator once she makes an account and we'll whitelist her. If none of us are online, post in the Whitelist request thread with her username.

Cheers, will do that.

She said she will register tomorrow (it's getting late over here).

What's the update on having her joining this forum, vuce?

~Bruno~

Haven't heard from her yet, she said she would register yesterday, but she really is terribly busy (finishing her degree I assume). Will message her again.

And thank you again Bruno (and all the donators!) for doing all of this, I can't express how much all this supports means to me/us.
156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please forgive my ignorance, but WTF ? on: June 03, 2012, 05:24:31 PM
The IP address associated with the above address is 91.121.174.223 (according to blockchain.info)

This is just the IP of the one who relayed the transaction, as far as I know.

There is a sum-up in this thread, as already stated in the OP. If you need any more information I would be happy to translate anything on the website to english.

It's in Slovenian language, I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear enough.

Can we maybe put the word out, or get organized sending care packages to this? Not all aid has to be monetary!

Most certainly, but that would be a lot more of a hassle for those donating.
159  Other / Off-topic / Re: humanitarian expedition to Kenya - looking for donations on: June 01, 2012, 07:03:52 AM
Can I ask why you dont simply do humanitarian aid in your own country? Surely there is alot of poor and sick people in slovenia that could really appreciate the same help.

I just find it so redundant that everyone from outside africa seem to think that only africa needs help.

Slovenia actually has a very good health care system. Everyone that is sick can seek medical attention for free, so such humanitarian aid is already in place, so to speak.

Fair enough, but are you telling me there is no one on the streets, unemployed, without food etc in slovenia ? Does your government actually take care of these people.

What Im getting at is the fact that helping someone should start at home and that is continously overlooked in the world.

Everyone rush to africa, year in and year out, yes its miserable situations but you could actually do the same good for poor people in your own country(refering to everyone now) and see potentially more real worth come out of it than to rush to another continent just to return the next year and the next ad infinity since the potential good is immediately destroyed when you leave.

Ill concede if in fact there is no one you could help in your own country who also could need the same support that you are prepared to offer to kenyans.

they're medical students, offering basic medical care, that's covered by the state in their country, it isn't in Kenya I assume, they get experience & do good that otherwise wouldn't be done, it's not immediately destroyed when you leave, FFS if you were untreated for some condition you wouldn't say such BS, of course the funds raised could be used towards the homeless etc in their country but you've totally missed the point, they wouldn't be - they are being raised for something else, try & broaden your horizons maybe

This is exactly what I was about to say and couldn't have said it better myself. Don't get me wrong, Clipse, I agree wholeheartedly. I don't think there's a country in the world that doesn't have people who need financial support, but that has very little to do with the idea of this expedition, as Otoh already stated.

@vuce, it's too short notice for this trip, but if they do the same thing every year & made a NPO or association, even the uni if it's non profit to manage it & the fund raising/allocation & feedback from the project then I could well be able to help them apply for funding for next & subsequent years from a foundation that supports similar ventures, see my thread on this for further details:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68162.0

& this post on it especially:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68162.msg795969#msg795969

Looks very interesting, (at least) one of the team will register tomorrow, I will let them know about it so you can discuss this. Thanks!
