4201  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: January 13, 2023, 10:52:13 PM
It’s just been announced that Mac McClung will be participating in the NBA All Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest. I think this might be the first time that they’ve allowed G-league players in the slam dunk competition. That might lead to some interesting contests in the future…

I wonder if we’ll be able to bet on the all star weekend events this year. I can’t remember if that was being offered last year or not.
4202  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who thinks DCG / Genesis / Grayscale / Barry are bad actors? on: January 13, 2023, 10:15:49 PM
I find it odd that they would sue Gemini at a time like this. Maybe the SEC is getting pressured by someone else. Going after Genesis I understand but Gemini is one of the most regulated exchanges out there. Did they not know in advance these laws how lending Bitcoin is considered an unregistered security?

Pretty crazy that the brand will be forever damaged and it was all due to the FTX collapse. It’s crazy how the contagion is still spreading when FTX collapse was over 2 months ago and Bitcoin is gaining on $20k again.

Well, you know what the scariest words in the English language are… “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” Getting involved in a bad situation and making it worse is sort of their calling card. I think the quick timing is odd here. I am not sure they’re going after the right people either. Gemini had some pretty crazy terms to use their Earn program. I think they should be going after Barry as I’m not sure who else could right the situation.
4203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash still king? on: January 13, 2023, 09:22:40 PM
Dash has had an interesting run. Probably threw the craziest parties and enabled a great deal of craziness. I forget, what was it originally called before Dash?  I forget. It had a great innovation too right? Wasn’t Dash the first masternode or something like that?

I think stories like Dash are worthy of their own movie but I’m not sure enough people have enough start to current knowledge of the project and all it’s craziness to accurately put such a thing together.
4204  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 13, 2023, 09:18:45 PM
Since there's no official news yet from a good and reliable source about Jordan Clarkson declining his contract extension to Utah Jazz, what we might see in the news is considered a rumor. Almost all related issues referring to contract extension are being publicly shown to the community.

Although maybe there's really an event that Clarkson didn't like the offer, maybe we can downgrade the "decline" into "still working out" as maybe there are parts of the contract that Clarkson didn't catch his interest but still he wants to remain in the Utah Jazz jersey.

Amid contract rumors, Jordan Clarkson says he wants to stay with Utah Jazz
I think Clarkson being let go is a great thing for him, because he has proven that he could be a great player and could ask for a max as well, not saying that there will be teams lined up to give him that, there are not that many teams who have money left, so it's hard for him to get max at free agency, his only chance is to sign and trade for example if he wants a max, but he could also accept a one year deal of whatever another team could offer and get max after that, which would benefit him.

He is just too good to be accepting cuts, and I know wanting more hurt so many players before but I feel like he won't be one of those players.

I hope he won't suffer like that, he deserves something with the kind of hard work he's bringing to his team, if he's asking for
something maybe Jazz should consider and provide his demand.

It's just basing from what I saw with his presence in Jazz uniform, he continues to bring ticket sales and the management might
consider that as a good reason to give him some compensation.

We don't have any update regarding to what might be his fate, either to stay or a trade will take place.

I don’t think he’ll be traded or stay. I think he’s worth a lot more in free agency and will test the market. I’m surprised to hear people saying he was even willing to stay… I think he’ll probably find a team that will pay him the max in free agency as long as nothing crazy like an injury or arrest happens. He’s a great player. I don’t think he can carry a team like Utah though. They would be smart to trade him now, but I’m not sure who would want to trade for a guy that will only be around a matter of months.
4205  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] [CAUTION] Polymerbit 10 year Anniversary (2019) notes (Keys by Yogg). on: January 13, 2023, 08:37:14 PM
I peeled mine.. i have an extremely small and lower denomination collection. Something like this feels like big chunk of my btc gone, especially when these kinda collectibles has more value in premiums than the actual load amount. Destroying about 20 coldkeys valuing at load value of .13btc is almost like loosing about .4BTC..

It’s not much for some OGs but big hole in the wallet for the new members..

I think peeling anything related to Yogg is the right thing to do. However, I’d be surprised if there are more coins he could steal that he hasn’t already.

Another thing I would say to caution folks is to take a good look at the design style and the manufacturing techniques used. I would bet that if he did this to you all now, he’s likely already hard at work pushing other loaded products to the community using an alt that will eventually be rug pulled. Be safe and be suspicious of anyone trying to sell you preloaded goods.

Back to the more important issue still riding every morning? Youtube video review?
Real range test? I have seen numbers all over the map from people. Wonder if it's them or the bike or a combo.

-Dave

Yes, I’m still riding it daily. This week I’ve started taking it on errands and just going on longer and faster rides…

I haven’t done a YouTube review because I would probably spend a week editing it and it would still suck. I have lots of drone videos I should get around to editing one of these days.

As far as range, my rides are usually only 20 miles so I haven’t done a test yet to see how far I can go. One thing I did notice is that riding around at slow speeds seemingly doesn’t drain the battery much, while getting it up to 70 miles an hour ticks away that juice FAST. So I would say range depends on speed a great deal. From the numbers I’ve seen online, rider weight plays a big role as well. That being said, I’m 6’3” and 210lbs and it seems plenty quick and the range hasn’t been an issue for me yet. I’d be hesitant to take it more than 20 miles from my house though, especially on the freeway.
4207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which NFT projects you looking at? on: January 13, 2023, 07:09:32 PM
To be honest, I myself am not interested and have an interest in investing in NFTs.
It seems that the trend of NFTs has recently disappeared and the demand for them is decreasing. Even if there are investors who hold NFTs, maybe it's because they haven't been able to sell them and have already experienced an automatic price drop, inevitably investors have to keep them.
Actually there are many new NFT projects that can be entered but I'm not really following them now.
I agree, it's not really that fun to invest into NFT's anymore, there was a hype once upon a time and I understand that but that hype is gone right now and nobody really shows interest as much as they used to. Which means that there is a chance it may not end up being as high as it used to be and that's what I believe will happen.

I believe that the best thing to do right now would be making sure that it's going well and in order to do that you could keep the NFT's you have and not buy any more new ones. If you hold the ones you have that means it's going to end up with a good profit when the bull comes, but not going to risk anything in the long future.

People got a little crazy when it came to NFTs.  The idea of being the next Bored Ape Club was too much for many to resist.  However, most of it was absolute nonsense.  That being said, there are still some fun NFT projects out there.  For example, I like one (that is admittedly a disaster at the moment) called The Gimmicks.  They do a fun little raunchy cartoon show that's sort of a cross between the WWE and South Park.  It's cool because NFT owners can choose the next adventure by voting after the episodes.  For me, an NFT collection like this makes sense.  They're also only about $3 to own or something like that, so it's not breaking the bank.

I would just tell people investing in NFTs to look at what they're getting.  $250,000 for a picture of a monkey, probably not a good bet.  $3 to be able to guide a cartoon and maybe win a contest and help with the creation of an episode or get actual production credit...  That seems like maybe not the worst deal.  Plus, Mila Kunis is behind it and people like Seth Green have been in episodes.  Worth $3 in my opinion.
4208  Other / Politics & Society / Re: African population is wrongly estimated!! on: January 13, 2023, 07:05:14 PM
The African population is diverse. It is estimated to be roughly 1.3 billion individuals, but I think this figure is too low. With a population of over 54 nations, many of which are densely populated, Africa is the second most populous continent in the world. It is challenging to determine the accurate population of Africa because each of these nations has its own unique demographics and dynamics.
In estimating the African population, there are few reliable statistics. Since many African nations have limited access to data collection and processing methods, the information they do have is frequently stale or lacking crucial information. Secondly, it is challenging to precisely track population migrations, births, and deaths in many African countries due to the lack of accurate demographic records. This implies that it is challenging to determine accurate population figures for Africa.

I have basically 0 knowledge of how they do a census in Africa, or if there's any scientific method at all to learning the population of Africa.  I would however believe that the population numbers are hilariously wrong.  Not just for the challenge of tracking population, but because the birth rates in African countries are as much as 5x higher than birth rates in some Western countries.  I could see scientists not taking this into account and sticking with their estimates as if they were correct using Western standards.  Africa is quite a bit different than the rest of the world and as smart as scientists are, they can be pretty dumb when they all get on the same wavelength.  Look at the vaccine.  Any self thinking individual could tell that was going to backfire, yet plenty of liberal scientists are still saying it's the right thing to do.  These idiots will literally make fun of anti-vaxxers until they fall over and die from their rushed unsafe vaccines.  I doubt they can accurately count a continent they don't even understand or step outside their established population models to think for themselves.
4209  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump for prison. on: January 13, 2023, 07:00:16 PM
For the people who wanted Trump to go to prison over the classified documents scandal...  Do you have that same energy for Biden?  Especially after it has come out that what Biden did was much worse?  Are liberals denying this now?  Do they feel a newfound sympathy for Trump.  Do they think Trump and Biden both belong in prison now?  Is there some hairbrained excuse for why Biden mishandling classified documents and keeping them in a garage is somehow better than Trump keeping them in a location secured by the secret service?  I'm genuinely curious how the media is going to sweep this under the rug.  Is Trump no longer going to be investigated as to not set a precedent that will surely land Biden in a worse position?
4210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why will Bitcoin have value? on: January 13, 2023, 06:52:28 PM
Scarce Resource
One of the main reasons for Bitcoin's value is that the supply of Bitcoin is limited.  21 million bitcoins will be supplied over 18 million bitcoins have already been mined.  Because the value of Bitcoin is determined by the ratio of supply and demand.  Day by day the demand for BTC is increasing and the number of Bitcoin holders is increasing due to the growing population and the price is likely to increase in the future.  Experts believe that competition between holders will increase the value of BTC in the future when the supply of Bitcoin reaches 21 million while mining Bitcoin will not.
Decentralised Network
Another important reason for BTC's value is that BTC is a fully decentralized networking system.  Centralized network systems could be controlled by governments like traditional currencies or controlled by one or more institutions, individuals and groups.  But since Bitcoin is a completely decentralized system, it cannot be controlled by the government, so Bitcoin is completely Freedom.
Store of Value/Not to be Inflation
Bitcoin works completely against inflation, especially since governments can't regulate it and cannot print it in a printing press like traditional paper money and therefore cannot increase its supply.  So it doesn't get inflation like normal currency. Due to lack of inflation common people can't keep in purchasing power thus Bitcoin's value is maintained.
Bitcoin's Utility & Growing Globally Adoption
Bitcoin's value is maintained as it is exchangeable with various products and day by day various circles, famous people, institutions, countries are recognizing Bitcoin around the world.  Moreover, various business organizations are accepting Bitcoin as a payment system for their business.  Because Bitcoin is such a global revolution, its value will always remain.

I think by having a set cap of 21M coins, it has been the first verifiable money that won't be printed away to no value.  Once you understand it, you realize that it has true power to transfer your wealth into the future without sacrificing it or having to invest and rely on businesses to stay afloat.  It also created the blockchain and mining method of solving the byzantine generals problem.  I believe that someday all digital assets (like stocks) will be tokens on a blockchain.  Maybe not Bitcoin's blockchain, but a blockchain based on that innovation and Bitcoin will still be the underlying store of value for this new economy.
4211  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: January 13, 2023, 06:41:13 PM
I tried to ask ChatGPT if it can predict the winner of an NBA game and this is what it said:
Quote
I am not able to predict the winner of NBA games because I am a language model trained on a large dataset of text and do not have access to real-time information about the games or the teams. Additionally, there are many factors that can affect the outcome of a game, such as injuries, team dynamics, and the performance of individual players, that are difficult to predict.

I guess that alone is enough answer whether AI can predict outcomes or not. Maybe there are some here who can crack the code and can get something from the ChatGPT, but I guess relying on statistics is way better than relying on AI when it comes to predicting outcomes. Another question is that, can you trust your money to an AI? ChatGPT isn't updated and the information that it is giving to us are the ones that it got until 2021 which means what happened in 2022 and this year (if there are some) aren't in the ChatGPT therefore, it is a bit of outdated. Nevertheless, give it at least 3-5 years then we will see a better one than what we are seeing right now.

My understanding is that you can trick the bot into giving you answers with some well thought out questions.  I haven't gotten to play with ChatGPT yet, but I've seen plenty of examples of people getting it to do things it isn't programmed to do.  It may not be the most accurate, but I'm sure there's a way to do it.  One of these days I will be bored enough at a computer to give it a try and report back.  Hopefully someone else will beat me to it because I don't want to be the AI gambler guy.  I'll give it a shot eventually though if nobody else figures it out.

4213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 13, 2023, 06:16:10 PM
The only stories I really care about in the UFC right now are Khamzat kicking everyone's ass...  When will someone be able to beat him, or at least not look like a rag doll out there?

Suga Sean O'Malley talking like he's a champion while his fighting skills have shown that he's barely getting by.  He's got a great youtube presence though and is an all around entertaining guy to watch and I hope he does well...

Paddy the Baddy, who also has a great personality and youtube channel.  His last fight was a win but we all know he lost.  Will he and Suga meet up at some point?  Will he lose his next fight and go into professional eating?

Then the only story that perhaps matters... Conor McGregor.  It's been long enough.  Let him pass a test to show he's off the juice and stick him in the octagon with some poor soul...
4214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can players bet on their own games on: January 13, 2023, 06:12:44 PM
So i would like to know if you heard of any player been caught doing that? and if my example is right?

I guess the most famous example would be Pete Rose, who is still banned from the Hall of Fame for gambling.  A less well known example, or perhaps a conspiracy theory would be Michael Jordan.  A lot of people believe that the NBA caught Michael Jordan betting on his Bulls games, which led to him receiving a silent suspension from the league as to not hurt their image or create drama with Nike.  As a result of this alleged suspension, Michael famously left the NBA to pursue Major League Baseball for over a year before coming back to basketball to win 3 more championships.

Do you think Michael Jordan was suspended from the NBA for gambling?
4215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Video how i turn 0.3 ethereum into 0.6 ethereum in dice on: January 13, 2023, 06:10:05 PM
I saw a video yesterday of some kid trying to show off his dice skills.  He ended up losing around $1,800 in about 10 seconds, bankrupting himself and sending him into tears.  I would say that gambling strategies work until they don't, and the cruel part is when they stop working they usually take everything you thought you had once made with them leaving you feeling stupid for thinking you had a strategy to beat the casino in the first place.  It happens to everyone who tries it eventually.  That's just how odds work.  However, if you can trick desperate people into thinking you have a working system, then you can sell it to them, which is the only way gambling schemes ever truly make money.
4216  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 13, 2023, 06:06:31 PM
well my Friday DCA hit so that makes for 12 Friday's in a row.

New miner arrived today so I will set it up later today.

Looking for more miners soon.

Mine should have hit at 17.2k I just logged in and discovered that I put in a buy order for 25% of what should have been 100%.

So...Missed out on this pump. Thanks OBAMA

Well, hopefully this wasn't your first DCA.  I know it's nice getting weekly payments in Bitcoin for anything you can, including buying it.  Especially at these prices.  This is just the turning point of the 4-year cycle.  Traders getting excited about pocketing little gains here are going to look back and wonder what could have been had they held from the bottom to the coming top.  Sure, we may see a correction soon as this short term rally runs out of steam, but make no mistake about it.  People are accumulating and accumulating a lot.  This isn't just another bear market rally as some will tell you.  This is the turning point.
4217  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 13, 2023, 02:29:17 PM
The price continues to rise. Congratulations to anyone who managed to snag some Coinbase options before this jump. $$$

It’s starting to feel a little overdone in the short term, but I think this rally has legs. It’s going to need to slow down though. It seems like now with easy leverage the price swings will always be enough to liquidate people and I think we’ll see some quick moves down along this upward path to make sure people aren’t snagging easy money with crazy leverage.

Some great basketball last night with the Lakers and Mavericks.

Tonight there’s more with another doubleheader on ESPN. Up first is the Warriors and the Spurs. Hopefully Steph is feeling a little more like his old self and if so they should beat the Spurs easily.

Then you have the Nuggets and Clippers. This should be a good game. I tend to think the Nuggets have the advantage but you never know what roster the Clippers will be throwing out there.
4219  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 13, 2023, 06:24:31 AM
This Lakers game is crazy. Heading into double overtime now. The referees are making some controversial calls but at least they’re letting them play it out. Westbrook is having a great game so far but Luka Doncic has been single-handedly keeping his team in it. Now to see if it ends in double overtime or if they go for triple…

Great news about Cousins tomorrow. I hope he makes the team and stays healthy.
Mavericks ended it with 2 possession lead. Man, that was some heart-stopping game, despite losing my bet because Mavs didn't cover the -4.5 spread, I was gladly entertained watching it.
Luka with another monster triple-double game recording 35 points, 14 boards, and 13 assists. Thankfully, Dinwiddie and Wood were helping him out with their offense and defense. Tim Hardaway's three's just won't go in.
But the two clutch three-pointers of Luka were the highlight of the game.
Lebron getting near to tying or passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with less than 400 more points. Great game.

When Luka hit those threes the refs seemed to be calling everything against the Mavericks. It was like he willed them to victory while the refs weren’t making it easy on him. I would have liked to have seen the Lakers win but the Mavericks earned this one. Luka seems to make it a point to get triple doubles every time he’s matched up against LeBron James.
