for mining you do NOT want cards running in SLI or crossfire. you want each gpu to be recognized and addressed individually.

And another noob-ish question... I'm assuming that all PCI slots need to be Express, not standard (old) PCI.  I have seen some nice looking Mobos with 6- PCI slots but 3 of them are standard PCI.

thats a negative on pci only slots. they need to be pciE

sorry if thats already answered, im blowing through threads right now as im in that dang real life thing..
4203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My new XMR+ ETH thread builds info and other stuff thoughts and photos included. on: September 12, 2016, 10:28:39 AM
So, I think I have decided to just go with the more recent CPU (i7-6800), which of course, requires a 1151 MoBo.

I am leaning heavily towards this one:

ASRock Z170 Extreme3 LGA 1151 Intel Z170 (currently only $100 after $10 off and $30 rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157672

The thing I like about this one is that it has 3 PCIe x16 slots and 3 PCIe x1 slots... so, if I use 3 GPUs for my initial build, I can just use the 3 x16 slots and avoid using risers until if and when I decide to bump this rig up to 4, 5 or 6 GPUs.  I think this Mobo was recommended somewhere in this forum (maybe even this thread) but if anyone sees any issues with it for what I want to do, please let me know.

something you should be aware of: some mobos will disable some pcie slots when others are in use. so just because it has 6 slots doesnt mean you can always use them all at the same time. not sure about the one you linked to however.

best thing is doing what youre doing.. check in build threads and see what others have made work.

question for you folks

i see lots of 470s vs 480, also 380s vs 390s here and there.
[..]
used 390s vs 380s as i have 2 390s and 1 380 so know their rates.

I'm doing 23-25 mhs with a 470 at 120 watts of power so let's just say 20 for good numbers
So that's 6watts per mhs
390 is doing 30 mhs at 300 watts of power
That's 10 watts per mhs
I'm paying .13 cents in power per kilowatt
1800 watts in 6 390s 170$ for 180mhs 218$ profit after power bill
720 watts in 6 470s 70$ for 120mhs 210$ profit after power bill
I can run only two 390 rigs in my house so that's 440$ profit at 3600 watts of total power
I can run 5 470 rigs in my house making 1275$ Profit at 3600 watts of total power
Then if you calculate the re-sale of the 470s vs the 390s I come out ahead
I can sale 470s close to 150$ used

no doubt on power efficiency with 3xx vs 4xx. im comparing same generation tech however. 390 vs 380/370s and 480s vs 470/460s.

gabryrocks, i had seen some 480 vs 470 numbers and they were in line with what you said. wasnt sure however if the 480s had been tweaked with miner software since i had seen those numbers. looks like the answer is no.

question for you folks

i see lots of 470s vs 480, also 380s vs 390s here and there.

now my 2 390s do 30 mhs so 60 mhs on eth. 3 380 at 20 mhs will also do 60 mhs.

so why build with lesser cards when you can use less cards for same hash rate. plus go to 6 cards like 390s at say 180 mhz vs 6 cards, like 380s, for 120 mhs. thats an extra 70 mhz per rig. so less power wasted on mobos which would be what 40-50 watts? EDIT: not to mention more mobos, cpu, memory, drives.

used 390s vs 380s as i have 2 390s and 1 380 so know their rates.

sure one can go cheaper.

but some build them for later resale value as game machines/whatever or to repurpose them or their parts in other builds  after mining.

something up with the website?

sia shows no shares for 12+ hours, eth only shows one of my 2 machines active. but sia and eth miners are getting work and send shares that are accepted.

running claymore dual miner on win7 and ubuntu.
4212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v6.4 (Windows/Linux) on: September 02, 2016, 01:05:54 PM
nanopool with cdm is pretty much the same, shares show up within a couple minutes if not sooner.

i think somethings up with the website part of nanopool. says my last share was 11 hours ago but both my miners are still getting work and submitting shares that are accepted.

occasionally that happens to pools. web part and backend that does the work are different beasts., so one can go wonky while the other keeps trucking.  the backend keeps track of shares while the frontend web part just displays it. so the shares are there, just not displayed, at least thats what ive seen in the past when stuff like this happens at other pools.  might want to just wait it out. nanopool and cdm have been reliable for me months.

[DAG fail on single r9 380 2 GB on ubuntu 15.10]

Miner creates DAG on every card. No transfers. If you get error it means that OpenCL cannot allocate enough buffer. Why? I don't know. Perhaps OS allocated some memory for itself. Or OpenCL drivers don't like your configuration for some reason and therefore don't allow to allocate max memory. Unfortunately I don't know drivers logic about max memory limits calculation, I only know that is not simple and that's the reason of many problems.

thats kinda what i thought too, which is why i shut down xorg. cdm reported vram went from 1.8 gb to 2 gb so just running the gui takes 256 mb vram. ill pick away at it, if i figure it out ill let you know.

ah well the evga will be here soon. just figured i would give the 380 alone a run till then.

got it running.

told ubuntu to not load the GUI and go straight to terminal. basically by uninstalling lighdm which is the GUI. that plus the environmental variables and now the 380 runs by itself.

i would imagine those who run the server additions of ubuntu would not run into this on 2 gig cards that also have a GUI to contend with. just seems faintly rediculous to run a computer in pure text mode when it has crazy powerful graphics cards. feels like im back in CP/M..

@claymore

this is something i havent quite figured out.

have an ubuntu 15.10 x64 rig, 15.12 driver (15.302 it says) 8 gig ram cdm 6.3. has 390 8 gig and 380 2 gig. 390 was primary display, 380 2nd with no monitor. all was well, no environmental settings needed. ran for months stable as a rock.

so my seasonic x750 burned a pcie cable and i will rma it, have a evga gs850 on its way. till it gets here i have pulled the 390, so now the 380 is the only card and primary display. and it will not run, cant create the dag. cdm logs show 1.8 gigs vram.

here is what ive tried: set all those GPU_etc environmental variable. nope. stopped xorg (now cdm logs show 2 gig vram). nope same error, cant create dag. throw in an old HD6770 as primary card running the display so the 380 is now 2nd card with no monitor hooked to it. no go, same error. also tried cdm 5.3 (?, the last 5.x one). negative.

guess the question is, does the dag get created on 1st supported card and then transferred to the others? does the card creating the dag need more vram than other cards? this 380 ran fine alongside the 390, but wont run by itself, even without xorg sucking down 256 mb or whatever the gui uses.

anyone track the biggest swing in a difficulty adjustment. like highest was +20, lowest was -10 for a 30% swing in any given difficulty adjustment  since the contest started?
4217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / HD6870/HD5830 - any coins worth mining on: August 27, 2016, 01:06:10 PM
did a quick search but all i saw were years old posts about it.

have a HD6870 and HD5830, both 1 gig cards, from back in the BTC GPU days. just built up a test rig with the 6870 and i might as well mine something even if its more or less break even, cool temps are on the way here and a space heater for the basement may come in handy.

i mine eth with R9s but of course these cards wont cut it.

any suggestions?

4220  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: August 26, 2016, 12:51:35 PM

Okay! That actually worked. However, I ran into a new problem. The driver being displayed is the Silabser (v6.7.0.0) because I'm also currently running MoonLander USB scrypt miners. When I go and install the Win USB driver it tells me that it want's to replace the silabser driver. So I ask it to 'Install WCID Driver' Instead of 'Replace Driver' I get an error saying 'Driver installation failed (Other error)'.

when the compac is selected, instead of the winusb driver can you select the zadig diver in the box? might have to scroll it.
