4201  Economy / Speculation / Re: Woo hoo Silver smack down on: December 21, 2012, 06:58:58 PM
It has certainly, but the idea of gold and silver is that you hold them for a long time so you can get some real profits out of it, short term holding isn't going to cut it, rest assured though the inflation that will come from federal reserves money printing will send the prices sky rocketing again I predict gold at least will go higher than $2000 because the scale of the crash looks like it could well be far worse than the 2008/2009 crash.

Unless the debt defaults that cause contraction of the money supply overtake the minuscule (by comparison) expansion being done by the fed.
4202  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll] - how confident are you? on: December 21, 2012, 06:47:01 PM
people voting 100%

you read all the source code and thought about it for months, or you blindly believe it 100%?
I suppose that depends on what you mean by "bitcoin itself".

"bitcoin" is just a protocol.  There are many implementations of that protocol. Any one of those implementations might become "hacked" (Bitcoin-Qt, Electrum, blockchain.info, etc), but I think I understand the protocol and the options available for updating that protocol as new technologies develop to believe that the protocol itself as defined (though not necessarily as implemented by any one or more clients) won't be hacked.

bitcoin could be hacked and we dont even know it, someone finds a way to create bitcoins without making the GPU do any work, and can create infinite bit coins

their must be a simple way to check if this is the case, add up all the wallets with coins on the block chain and you should get 10.576 million coin

Someone do this please!

No bitcoins can come out of nowhere. That's not how it works. No bitcoin client would accept "coins" that came from nowhere.

prove it.

So you want me to try and create a transaction that says I'm paying 50 bitcoins from an address that doesn't have any to another address and broadcast it to the network and see what happens?

no i want you to HACK it! and prove to everyone it dosnt work...

or figure out a way to show some kind of proof that their isnt more then 10 million coins out there

4203  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin savings fund for children or grandchildren? on: December 19, 2012, 05:16:10 PM
Expiration won't happen and is off topic.  Bitcoins for your children is a great idea.  I recommend a paper wallet or casascius physical bitcoins.  That way your coins are safe from hackers and hard drive failures.

A paper wallet was an excellent idea. Print on paper lasts very long, not that sure about digital media like usb-drives and CD-ROMs, harddrives etc.

Cdroms or an old tape recorder is all I would trust with long term storage and I'd still recommend a paper backup.

Yup calling out bullshit statements is RANDOM.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Call out yourself then smoothie. When CoinHunter left he took your sense of humor with him.

You used to be an even blend of funny and troll, now all the funny has evaporated.

Who says I am here to entertain you?

not me
4206  Economy / Economics / Re: Rise of the Robots -- Paul Krugman on: December 17, 2012, 09:24:52 PM
I wonder what earlier data would show.  The start of your graph happens to coincide with the removal of gold convertibility of fiat money.
4207  Economy / Economics / Re: Annual Gross Income and Currency Debasement on: December 17, 2012, 06:25:49 PM
Debt defaults create deflationary pressure.  QE is an effort to print money to counteract this pressure, but it will ultimately fail in the face of the massive weight of unaffordable debt that has been created.
4208  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: December 17, 2012, 06:23:15 PM
Well if we had 200 in the past why not.

Okay, halfway between $0 and $32 is $16.  That's my new target.
4209  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: December 17, 2012, 05:59:15 PM
12.50

...cant wait  Cheesy

You have to wait... forever Smiley

Forever = 2 weeks at most.

What's the current rationale behind the $12.50 forecast?

It's right at the middle between 11 and 14.

100 is the middle between 0 and 200.  BTC at $100 coming right up.
4210  Economy / Speculation / Re: Most likely source of the major dumps? on: December 14, 2012, 07:33:24 PM
I must say that I strongly suspect MTgox.

I don't believe there is any economic incentive to dump BTC like this as a long investor.  It has to be someone that is getting massive amounts of BTC without buying them.

MTGox makes money off trading and dumps like this creates massive trading days and brings out traders.

I really need to set up that tin foil hat for btc store I've been thinking about.
4211  Economy / Speculation / Re: Most likely source of the major dumps? on: December 14, 2012, 07:24:51 PM
Major, long term investor who's bitcoin holdings became a bit overweight in his portfolio.
4212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin on: December 12, 2012, 04:18:54 PM
Why couldn't Bitcoin be like Red Bull, where every cheap attempt at producing a clone has only strengthened the prestige of the "original"?

Every clone does strengthen Bitcoin right now.

What else can you do with an altcoin except trade it for BTC ?
(with the exception of namecoin... I wish that project would get more dev love)

All namecoin need is a namespace reboot and a usecase.  Squatters have registered anything of value already and there is no significant reason to use namecoin in the first place.  Sure, domains can be confiscated, but most governments have been playing nice in that arena recently.
4213  Economy / Speculation / Re: new years day rally again this year? on: December 12, 2012, 01:32:46 AM
Santa always visits Bitcoinia.
4214  Economy / Speculation / Re: What kinds of people are selling bitcoins right now on Mt Gox? on: December 12, 2012, 12:59:49 AM
Someone that made a trading strategy, and is sticking to it.  There were a few large purchases around $11-$12 that appeared to be put back up on the sell side around $15.  Perhaps coincidence, perhaps not.  If they do sell, they'll have earned a 20%-35% return on investment, and likely in under a year.  High risk, high reward, and a reasonable strategy with the current negative US treasury returns.

It's the "sticking with it" part that seems irrational to me. All of the recent developments in bitcoin seem to indicate that it would be wise to hold on to them... if only a bit longer (assuming you plan to get rid of them in the short term).

Solidifying 20-30% profit is a very rational thing to do, regardless of potential future profits.
4215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Analysis of hashrate-based double-spending on: December 11, 2012, 07:19:31 PM
So an attach on the quicker blockchain would succeed of fail more quickly but the probability of success for both chains would be equal, right?
4216  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: @MtGox Staff... when will mtgox change the number of confirmations? on: December 11, 2012, 02:30:50 AM
If its about the high amounts of transactions then why not make something like this:
up to 100btc per day 1 confirmation
up to 500btc per day 2 confs
...

When i think about... this hasnt to be per day... per hour is enough. Because after a hour you know if the previous transaction was fishy or not and you could allow more fast transactions.

Im not sure if highly verified users could help. I mean i can imagine that some people use voip-numbers, faked id and so on and then could misuse this.

But i think when its only about the height of transactions then small transactions doesnt need ultra high security.

That just sets up a scale for people to figure out how much they can get away with and calculate how long and how much capital it will take.
4217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trusting people with cash for bitcoin. on: December 11, 2012, 02:28:34 AM
If you are looking to buy in cash with large amounts, i believe that https://localbitcoins.com would be a good recourse

+1

I have a good exchange route set up, so I regularly sell bitcons to people who look me up there.
4218  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: December 11, 2012, 01:15:51 AM
All I see is support.  13.10 will hold.  Next stop 14.20-14.70.

I think $13.10 will hold too. I just think we are going to be in the $13s for awhile.

Let's hope so.
4219  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin-Central, first exchange licensed to operate with a bank. This is HUGE on: December 11, 2012, 01:11:06 AM
No one here is asking for that.

Maybe not overtly or knowingly, but they are undoubtedly paving the way for it.
Just as much as Satoshi paved the way for Bitcoin regulation by inventing Bitcoin.

Do you realize that your detractors have been achieving their core goals, right?  No matter what you do, it will not directly affect them (or me), yet each moment you spend responding to them delays your progress.  They are winning, whether or not they are correct.  While I, personally, don't agree that one bitcoin based business making agreements with establishment institutions in Europe has any great effect upon Bitcoin as a whole; I also don't view such a developement as automaticly a positive one.  Furthermore, I don't believe that you will actually be permitted to succeed.  If such a development actually is a net positive for Bitcoin, you will be undermined to your final bankruptcy at least.  If such a development survives six months, I will take that to mean that it's a net negative for Bitcoin, and avoid you like the plague.

Where can I buy tinfoil hats with bitcoin?
4220  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: December 11, 2012, 12:48:43 AM
I'm not so sure we are done with $13.xx yet, there has been a lot of resistance here at $13.10-13.50.
