The ledger may incur a second twist, and that is they will most likely be changing the seed word format from 25 to 24 words to match the rest of the wallets they support.  The only concern here is there is a reliable way to either convert these wallets to the 25 word form or somehow else see their seed word format supported by other software (inc. the standard cli and GUI).
...

The 25th word is just a checksum and not actually a part of the seed itself - it's always one of the seed words and is calculated from the seed itself, so I don't think this is an issue at all.

Then we would still want to know what the checksum word is.  Or to make sure the monero wallets can be restored from only 24 keys.

I agree it is likely trivial, but it will still have to be dealt with.  You have a 24 word seed and you need to get into a standard wallet...

You praise the blockchain technology in general Smiley Bitcoin doesn't equal the blockchain technology. I see that the blockchain technology isn't dependent on bitcoin and bitcoin value isn't guaranteed by the blockchain technology.

This is a glaring fundamental error.  Blockchain, and what makes it truly revolutionary cannot be separated from the token.  In the case of Bitcoin we are talking about the premier token on the premier blockchain.  They are inseparable.  Blockchain is useless without bitcoin.  You cannot have one without the other without losing the goodness of the entire thing.

I always appreciate it when a newcomer to the thread makes it abundantly clear in their first post that they should be ignored.

Much more efficient that way.

I just thought the same thing.

Not bad...

4205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 23, 2018, 02:56:29 PM
I mean how much risk are you comfortable with 100xmr, 1000, 10?

That is a VERY good question.

The way I see it currently we have two choices coming:

1.  Ledger:  Established company.  Hardware proven.  Track record of handling security issues well etc.
2.  Monero proprietary wallet.  Based on FOS design, specific to XMR.

I think BOTH devices share a common risk.  And that is you want to make sure there is no way for your funds to be stolen with some sort of attack.  Either on the hardware, or in between the HW and the SW on the computer.

I bought a Ledger, and I have not decided how much I am willing to risk there.

Personally, I’ll wait for the open source HW wallet.

it seems very cheap, how much can you confidently store on it? will it have some recovery method for lost/damaged devices?

Typically the hardware wallet holds the key and signs the transactions.  So it can hold "all the coins".  Or is your questions how many wallets it would support?

LOL. Mempool almost empty again. What a time to be alive.

Thank you. 5 MERITS.

So stop quoting the trolls so we don't all have to read their posts over and over

25 fucking merit.

Is there no way to:

1.  Ban the perma-off-topic, vomitously hideous shit for a soul roach?
2.  The rest of the garden variety Nazi fucks turn their knobs down to say... I dunno 7?  Or 8?
3.  Talk about bitcoin?  Or Monero?

God.  Talk about Ripple and BCASH if you want!  But stop with all the damned race oriented blathering.

And just ONE PAGE.

O N E.  P A G E.

With no mentions of "EVIL JEWS" an no usage of the word "cuckold"?

Just one?

I have been reading about MoneroV and I think it is an attack on XMR . What is the best way to protect my privacy during the fork. I wont be transacting at the time of the fork or claiming the MoneroV, but I need to know if Im still at risk and if there is anything else I should do besides hodl. TY

The BEST way is to NOT spend the coins on ONE of the chains.   I will let you pick which one.

But now that bitcoin is doing it's best resurrection act and alts are shrinking... what do you guys see for the future price action of our beloved coin?

XMR looks to be on track to do what it always does. Fireworks on March 20th. $1500.

I doubted you last time and regretted it. But...$1500...within four weeks? That would be truly astonishing.

Has Johnny got a good track record?

He called the Xmas ATH in November when XMR was wandering in the 100s. See here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=753252.msg24985697#msg24985697

It was hard to believe at the time but it happened.

1500 by year end is my guess. 1500 by March I’ll buy everyone Barolo.

Quoting so I can make my claim! Wink

In regards to the moneroV scam, if I do nothing to claim my moneroV from my web wallet, will my privacy for monero be effected? Thank you.

Your privacy is affected just by using a web wallet.

Sorry to snap us back to topic. Wink

I hate watching the XMRUSD just hold, or slowly drop under these circumstances...  What normally happens?   Do we see a springboard after the BTC rise?  Why can't I remember.  It's not like I haven't been through this 1000 times.

I have no clue, was waiting forever to get back some @ .0272 finally said fuk it and bought at .02815 and look what that did. Lol

Nice trade Sir. Wink

This is why I hold tight.

The moment I start to worry I get whiplash.
4216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 21, 2018, 03:21:30 AM
On bittrex right now there are bids for more xmr than currently exist.  At a guess, between the major exchanges, there are probably lit bids for at least 4x the current supply.  You could turn all of the monero over into new hands in a fraction of a second without moving the price more than 50%.

The liquidity situation is extremely good.  If you want to dump your Monero with little slippage, this is not a bad time to do it.  Well, except that it is always a bad time to sell an undervalued asset. But if Vinnie the Gooch is collecting that bet you made, or the tax man is putting a lien on your house, yeah, dump now.

I have remained disinclined to sell any Monero as I have for years.  Well let me put that another way...  there are times I am highly tempted to sell, but I end up choosing to sit tight.

Luckily for me neither Vinnie or the tax man are after me.  And when I do sell crypto I will pay my damn taxes.  I prefer life on this side of bars. Wink.

I'm just curious where people think these very interesting times are taking us.  I never have a clue. Smiley

8440..IMO this weeks ATH

Your already wrong. LOL Of course.
Hi Cuck. Time for you to call this weeks ATH

Just here for mere hours and you make yourself a fool.  Your predictions already in shambles.  And yet another sexually insecure idiot using the word "Cuck".  It reveals a lot about who you are.

But don't worry...  on the next downswing you will be able to dance around and act like you predicted it.

Then it will go back up again.

I'll be looking for that 2k floor this week.  Shoot I'll give it 'till next Sunday night.

Well...  Seems we didn't quite get to 2k yet.  And I even gave it 'till Monday.  I wouldn't be surprised if we are up $500 more from here by the time you wake up and read this with your morning cup of Kombucha.

Such retrace.  Much drop.  Wow.

It can go down to 10350 and bounce.
