4281  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are the most popular miners? on: November 20, 2015, 08:52:14 PM
Thanks notlist,

I'm actually working on a project to understand how mining software evolves over time, and specifically whether changes in price lead to specific types of changes in the mining software.

Well, cgminer and bgfminer narrows it down a lot, doesn't it.  How do you know that these are the most popular ones?

The software does not narrow it down at all really.  You need a asic to mine BTC really.  Look at the hardware section of the forum and you will see a lot of different hardware.

What is your electricity price?  With that we can know if you stand a chance mining.
4282  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Very new to mining, I could use some technical advice/help on rig construction on: November 20, 2015, 08:46:43 PM
I am currently attending a vocational school for computer information systems, and for my senior project this year I elected to do a project on Bitcoin. Did very well on my paper but now that I have to build an actual rig, I've run into a bit of a problem I was hoping someone could help me with. I have a general understanding of how mining rigs are constructed and how they operate, but every page on the internet I've found describes how to build the most efficient and up-to-date mining rig possible, often including a very expensive parts list. For my project my rig doesn't even need to be financially viable, it just needs to function on some level. Because I'm paying for everything myself, I'm just wondering what would be one of the cheapest ways to build a (functioning) bitcoin mining rig? Not looking for anyone to hold my hand through the process, just maybe an idea or two on how I could go about this.

Thanks,
   -Joe

1. Take a computer...in my case, a Win 10 with a so-so MSI GeForce 230 video card...that has a working network/Internet connection. You DO NOT need to install any other hardware. The computer almost HAS to have a separate video card, however, for the mining software to find it.
(snip)

I think you are missing the part hes using a RPI.  It is much cheaper to run compared a big computer.   Things you mentioned with windows 10 like guiminer and other things just dont equate to RPI.

I would use command line CGMiner and it is not that bad.  If you really are having trouble look into something like minera on RPI, which is much more gui.  And I think if you upgrade from the asic miner sticks to a compac stick you will be happier for not a lot of money.
4283  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best HUD on: November 20, 2015, 07:23:10 PM
I can't imagine making any profit with a (Smaller/Cheaper) USB miner. (..?)

The gekkoscience sticks are somewhere around 15Gh/s if I remember clearly, that will not make much unless you band a few together on the same HUB.
I guess the Ant U3 (also technically a USB miner) would generate a few US cents a day but I'm not sure if that can be really listed as profit, it's miniscule.
I'm sure if you have the dollars to throw at it most to all recent ASICs are profitable, so I'm not really understanding your point on "it's the only profitable ASIC in my country"
If you really want to try make some revenue then you'll need a heavy duty USB HUB, most miners aiming this way made theirs personally. Right now, USB hubs aren't really created commonly for mining, or even being at full capacity (on most of the cheaper sells on Amazon)
I'd suggest you look for HUBs such as this, aim for the strongest though; http://www.amazon.com/Dyconn-PowerHub-10-Port-Industrial-Alumunim/dp/B00BD7L16

Good luck on your endeavour.

I think a big thing is the "it's the only profitable ASIC in my country" part of his post.  With Europe chances are he has very high import tax, which kills profit on most miners in Europe.

You are right on usb miners not really being profitable they are more likely used in a lotto device.  That is what I'm doing with mine.  I have some compacs and U3's just for this purpose.

OP what is your electricity cost?  And how high is vat where you are?
4284  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: November 20, 2015, 07:11:44 PM
any release date on Crazy's firmware for the community ?

I believe it was after he has sold all of his R1's.   It could have changed as thats been a bit back.  But I'm guessing it's still the same

If your thinking of getting a R1 I suggest getting from CrazyGuy.  For those who already got somewhere else I think best anwser is it will be a wait till his all sell.
4285  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Very new to mining, I could use some technical advice/help on rig construction on: November 20, 2015, 06:38:37 PM
Building an altcoin GPU-based rig should be viable - though not cheap unless you couldn't care less about it being profitable.

Dash (ex-Darkcoin) among others is still profitable with GPU-based mining, though the ROI is very very long. if you use Maxwell-based GPU cards like the 750ti or 960/970/980

I think the main problem is he already selected a project on bitcoin.  Assuming he goes to GPU he could change topic to crypto currency, and make it more broad then bitcoin alone.

He never did anwser on how serious this is. If senior project is assembling he could do a RPI with a few compacs for not to expensive and show BTC mining.  But not sure if building will be considered construction or if he has to design it more then that.

Sorry for not answering, I read some of the replies then got distracted. I had to write a paper on bitcoin and crypto-currency last year, but along with your paper you need to make a product. I ended up just getting a couple ASIC block erupters and running them on Raspberry Pi (using bfgminer). It seemed to be running ok but my erupters always show a "0.00Mh/s" rate, any idea what could be causing that?

We would need to know more.  With no MH/s it's like there is no mining. You will need to share your rig setup and commands your using.

And to be honest it's not really worth it on block erupters.  Buy a compac and upgrade and it will get much more speed on USB then a LOT of block erupters being used together.  8 GH/s or higher depending on setting and if you OC.

I am planning for raising capital to the worth of $ 3 Million (INR. 180000000).

How do you plan on raising this much capital?   Do you have an actual investor who in interested or are you just assuming you will find someone?

I just think that is a lot of capital, and yes it has a ton of opportunity.  Just curious how set in stone your backing in.

I actually know a rich relative. He is an investor of a kind. And always seek for better opportunities for investment. If I will be able to impress him, then I could expect at least $ 3M. What if I invest in 3,000 miners, will I be more profitable for a span of consider 2 years?

Miner's have a lifespan in 2 years a miner is obsolete and most likely will only be worth scrap, unless a way to upgrade chips.   It is the nature of BTC asics they just have a life that goes fast.

I think I agree with alh you need to scale back until you dealt with miners a little more.  Start small with a few.... see how it goes.  Then really go in if you want but keep in mind the place you get electricity is important just as much as miner if not more.

Electricity price can kill ROI in some cases.  For 3 Million... I would guess your thinking about doing your own data center... there is just a lot there to learn beforehand.
4287  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best HUD on: November 20, 2015, 05:42:55 PM
Hello,

I am looking into buying an usb bitcoin miner (only profitable asic in my country).
I am not sure about what usb HUD I should take for it. This is the miner:
https://www.bitshopper.de/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/bitshopper_gekkoscience_compac_1.jpg

I have ordered one from there and got it.  Owner is in groupbuys - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1141518.0

But what I think you are looking for is a "hub" not hud.  The best thread is a little dated - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0 .  But that thread can give you a good idea of the hubs.  The key is looking at the power vs amount of ports.
4288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is the best trusted website to earn btc? on: November 20, 2015, 05:42:00 PM
I just know freebitco.in and moon faucet are great faucet for bitcoin noob.
If you have friend, introduce them about bitcoin and you can ask them to sign up under your ref link

If you are a good friend don't recommend them faucets.  It is going to be very small payment.   Just does not equal time put in vs amount earned.

Tell them about signature campaigns or something more in that area.  They can learn more about BTC reading here and eventually signing up for a signature campaign.  They will thank you down the line specifically once they hit full member.
4289  Other / Meta / Re: Please unlock busminer account on: November 20, 2015, 05:25:20 PM
More than two months have passed since my last posts Sad

I don't think you are getting it back.  It was a while back but if you look in your account your posting in it did post in other spots after asking about this thread so it would appear ban evasion, even though it was back a while.

So it is possible you never get it seeing a ban evasion.  And first ban looked permenate to.   So it's possible you have reason for 2 seperate perma bans so that is hard to get account back I would think.
4290  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What's happening in blockchain? on: November 20, 2015, 05:18:06 PM
So in doing this do they have a more likely shot at getting block reward?  If so how much of a advantage is it to do this?

It is interesting I'm surprised they are sending out blocks with 1 transaction.  Kinda defeats the entire point of the block if it does not carry transactions.
4291  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: November 20, 2015, 05:12:57 PM
as soon as you plug it in its setup to go online with bitmains id. so im pretty sure that number is pretty valid as the total..

Unless you buy the R1 from someone like CrazyGuy who has already modified the firmware for you.  That's what I plan to do, my R1 will never be seen by Bitmain on their pool so it's possible there are many more out there than reported.

CrazyGuy does have it where you could use antpool if you want to see some stat's to play with on antpool site on that antrouter tab.   But you are right if you stick with ck solo it would never touch on his sales with custom firmware.  I am very happy with my purchase from him.

I really am surprised bitmain did not do a batch 2 yet.  Guess we will see I'm happy if it turns into more collector item with only around 200 out there... but I would think they would want to sell more though.

can someone post the link to crazyguy's firmware? install guide?

Currently you have to buy from him to get the firmware.  You select it when you order.   So it's a big bonus for getting off of him as the firmware is very nice.

I believe it will remain this way until he sells out of his R1's.  Which makes sense as he put a lot of time into firmware.
4292  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Dust and Miners? on: November 20, 2015, 05:05:52 PM
next time, look into buying a decent filter...

You can pick up an odorsock (used by canabis growers) for about $50. Stops all the dust, can be washed, and only limits the airflow by a very small amount

I just clean mine out at certain points.  I think filtering each miner is a little overkill unless you have very dusty area.   I normally just clean if I see something looking to dusty.  I like air to push it out and if too deep in then a cloth or something and air from closer up.

But i agree a real duty spot some special requirements might need to happen.  I so far have not had any issues with dust luckily hurting miners and have been in the game a while.
4293  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 11 to Nov 24 Set up stage-picks are now closed! on: November 20, 2015, 05:00:59 PM
It's pretty consistent to be a coincidence, too.  I wonder if the larger mines do this on purpose so that the next adjustment is slightly lower, thereby making their operations a bit more profitable for the next adjustment period.  Or is that just a paranoid delusional idea?  Lips sealed

I don't know for the operation to shutdown for 3.5-4 day's with a lot of hash that seems like a lot of lost profit.  For most operations I think they would just leave it on.

Only way I could see it happening is if it's a maker of miners.  If a big one wanted difficulty not to show huge on change as it might effect sales. So they would have a reason if sales of miners go down for some big changes.

But I don't see anyone shutting down honestly for this amount of days to effect difficulty.   But I could always be wrong this is speculating.
4294  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining Profitability - NO Electricity Costs? on: November 20, 2015, 04:56:12 PM
even if you buy a S7 it should ROI before the halving.

BUT they are loud. you will not sleep with one in a room. I have one in a guest house about 60 feet away from my home and anytime i step outside i hear it screaming. like someone was running a loud vacuum.
I would never run one in my own home.

you are exaggerating...
I and my family are totally fine with S7 in a spare room, especially with ambient at 75F (23.8C) or lower with fans at 4200/3980.
Believe me, they would have told me if it was bothersome-which happened with unshielded S5.
I just had to put in on a wire cart and put some some couch pillows on three sides and on top. On the exhaust side I made a bit of a labyrinth with cardboard posters so exhaust has to bounce around before exiting. This does not result in miner overheating.
These modest measures resulted in just 62-63 dB at 1 meter distance at full speed.

I think one of the key words is spare room.  I would hate to put a lot of my miners in bedroom or living room.  But a spare room is perfect in most cases.

I think it depends on how much OP want's to risk with free electricity the safe bet is S3 or newer hardware that's used and cheaper.  This is quicker on ROI in most cases considering no electricity cost.   If you wan't a bigger risk (and return most likely) you can go with the S7.

Keep in mind even with free electricity never invest more money in a miner then your willing to lose.
4295  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie fresh to bitcoin seeking advice! on: November 20, 2015, 02:51:17 PM
I'm relatively new to bitcoin, currently researching more and more every day, and mining has sparked my interests tremendously! I do realize it's a bit late in the game to start now and be competitive and and turn a profit. My question is, what is a good decently priced piece of mining hardware  for a greenhorn miner? I run Windows 10 and Ubuntu dual boot so I would need the software that could run the hardware aswell. Thanks ahead of time!

A lot of the miners are standalone.  So with it you not need special software or use your computer on them.  That is the majority of new miners at this point (S7, Avalon 6(uses RPI)).

Yes if you use smaller ones like compacs, or U3's then you would need to use something as a controller.  This is a different section though more what I consider to be lotto miners.

We do need to know more though. What miner are you looking at, or budget, etc.  And electricity as others indicated.  Also I would warn you mention profit, when going into it never invest what you can't lose.  There is no guarantee of ROI.
4296  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S8 ? on: November 20, 2015, 02:45:21 PM
First there should be S7+, actually no big reason how it is called, the best thing would be that the new miner could offer even greater efficienfy.

I think it is likely they will lead to the S7+ eventually.  I think they need to get a design down first and stick with it on speed.   As of right now every batch seems to be a new speed.... which is interesting and odd.

Once they get it finnaly down.  I think it is likely a S7+.   It might take the B-11 coming out.  They show it with different speeds up to 10T (Hashrate: 3TH/s, 5TH/s or 10TH/s options).   If they come out with that I think there then would be a push for S7+.  But I think bitmain will need a little push to do it.
4297  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Do You Earn Free Bitcoins? on: November 20, 2015, 03:21:02 AM
Not from faucets from sure. Try promoting services, it works well!

I have to disagree with this.  I spend about 3 hours a day on faucets and earn about .1 BTC a week.  I have not broken the .1, but I have brought in about .097 average over the past few weeks.  It is very intense, but it can be done with dedication.

Only 3 hours a day on faucets?? Can you show some proofs about this? Even a good faucet rotator I doubt will gave you a hard time to get that 10 million satoshis a week by only claiming on faucets. Even with dedication and proper meditation it is really insane lol.

I would like to see some proof can you show BTC address with this profit?  .1 almost a week for 21ish hours a week is pretty unheard of for just using faucets.   Normally it's much much smaller.

I would need to see proof to believe even close to .1
4298  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 11 to Nov 24 Set up stage-picks are now closed! on: November 20, 2015, 02:42:08 AM
Price is taking a little of a dive at coinbase right now: 313.55  So loss of value of 21.15 in 24 hours currently.

Hopefully this reverses soon as i don't like watching it dive down.  I liked having 330 as new floor.
4299  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Do You Earn Free Bitcoins? on: November 20, 2015, 02:21:05 AM
The goal of .1 is possible for I do about that every week and do not spend more than about 30 hours on the computer to do that, but earning 1 BTC per week would be hard.  There are a lot of faucets and you can sign up with a campaign, but it would be very hard, in my opinion to earn 1 BTC per week.  Unless you are offering a service others want, I do not see a way to earn 1 BTC a week.  Anyone agree?
agree with you
my earning at weekly only 0.035 (if i can max post) maybe 3-4hours perday
1btc/week look imposible
but if you have big capital (100-200btc) you can try trading and you can earning 1-2/week Roll Eyes

If you are investing with 100-200 BTC your talking about a pretty good amount of capital right there.   Your earnings or losses could be much higher the the 1-2 BTC.  At 100 that is just 2 percent... and most move a decent amount depending on what coin you invest.

I would be hesitant to invest that amount in trading as I think a lot of coins are pump and dump.  But yes you might get lucky with good one.
4300  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Share Tips And Trick To Get BTC on: November 20, 2015, 02:17:30 AM
I recently found this good article on how to earn some free BTC. Good read: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/5-ways-get-free-bitcoins/
CCN recommend their own faucet, and from what I could tell from this article it is insanely good faucet. Can you guys confirm it?

I see no.2 Coin Flapper, yes that's one way to get a pretty good bitcoin, I used to be able to get 20-60k satoshi/1-2hours
You can also bet for yourself to earn more in coin flapper pro version
yes I've tried with the entry fee tournament of 0.001 and won about 0.003BTC. but I am not good enough in this game, so I do not continue Smiley
in the pro version, there are a lot of pro players who can play a few hundreds that's why I said you must be really pro

yeah unfortunately I was not too good when playing Flappy Bird, even I have never reached more than 30 haha very bad Grin

Their own faucet I don't think is that special " In comparison to other faucets, ours pays slightly higher, with up to 0.0001 bitcoins, or 10 000 satoshis"   So chances are slim of getting that amount in most cases it's smaller.  So still pennies for hours or work.

I think recommending a faucet is kinda sending someone to waste their time.  It is int-resting in the article they put their faucet in number one spot, which I think should have talked about signature campaigns on that spot. They skipped signature campaigns completely on the article.
