4281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anonymous a red flag? on: April 12, 2021, 01:47:30 AM
Ah the classic reason, stay away from anonymous teams (believe me they are usually single person) , every single project that I have been with anonymous team, exit scammed.
So what about bitcoin ? An individual-built project ? Only Satoshi is the one whose identity remains unknown up to now? It is not always bad to invest in a project with anonymous team as long as they prove they have good resource and knowledge as well as the visionary. In order to recognize them, read the whitepaper, follow news. Even anonymous team can be concerned by sorts of news
I don't think these two are comparable. Neither do we know if satoshi was an individual. Can you name any other project except BTC which is highly successful?
4282  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Apkpure official app breached with trojan on: April 11, 2021, 10:18:26 AM
Of course, neither is Google play 100% safe but reduces the likelihood of infected apps.
Google is far from being 100% safe, with its poor security filter system, phishing apps not only gets displayed, but gets recommended on search engines top pages.
Internet users, especially those who are into Bitcoin where you're basically your own bank, should take extra precautions to protect themselves;
• Keep your funds on an airgapped device or hardware wallet,
• If you have exchange accounts and other sensitive information on your device, only download apps that are absolutely necessary and always from their original website (verify the signature key if possible),

I figure there are less chances of trojan/malwares getting through play store unlike case above. Regarding phishing apps, it's more due to scammers take advantage of text input as it's unlikely to raise suspicion.

~

Sorry, but why download apps from a third party to your smartphone, where basically all private information about you is stored when you can get the app from the official Play Store at the same time, where before uploading a security check is done by Google? That is absolutely stupid! It's good that you warn here, but downloading apps from apkpure and other similar sites is only recommended for testers, developers and security engineers, never for "normal" users.

Well, there are reasons. Google restricts apps you see based on your region. Then there are companies who don't have Google play installed, huawei, meizu. Or times when you flash custom rom.

Edit: Typo! Thanks @UserU!
4283  Economy / Scam Accusations / Apkpure official app breached with trojan on: April 11, 2021, 09:42:28 AM
People often use third party apps to download android apps in absence of play store, there are reasons of course, I have been guilty of doing same.

Yesterday, the popular third party android app hosting site apkpure's android app was infected with trojan.

Everyone who downloaded their official app or had auto updates turned on was fucked.

Of course, neither is Google play 100% safe but reduces the likelihood of infected apps.

I'm curious to know, in which year did you buy BTC?
4285  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When is the end of the bull run? on: April 11, 2021, 08:36:20 AM
No one knows when it gonna end (or start, for that matter), the media or the youtubers are splitting out bullshit, do not believe them.

What if someone sold real tokens in rush when the price was falling?

Dear crypto_kitty,

If you saw that the price on the exchange falling 10 or 100 times you should think that something goes wrong and it did not need to rush the sell in such a situation. On the Digital Gold marketplace the price didn't fall.

What will happen to the gold tokens that were bought during the crash? I personally bought in the fall (as with many other cryptocurrencies) and now I can see the balance of gold in my account but without exchange options or price. What will happen to those gold purchased?

Dear R3cp link,

The price did not fall on our marketplace. We always advise using our marketplace. we suggested to the BitForex exchange to cancel all transactions from March 28 and return all users' funds to their wallets. We do not know when they do that. If you bought tokens there you can contact Bitforex support and clarify this issue.

That mean marketplace is still functioning as normal?

I am using LastPass since last few years, it has been serving well, what made you stop using it if I may ask(considering you used 'was' in sentence)?

*psst. Ex-LastPass user here. Use Bitwarden instead. It's free (but I recommend paying just to help out the devs), it's open-source, and you can self-host as well.*

Disclaimer: Not affiliated. Just a fan.
*psst. Current-dashlane user here! Heard a wee bit on Bitwarden, is it better than Dashlane do you reckon oui mat๊๋? *

For the last couple weeks, I'm actually in the process of consolidating all my passwords from Lockwise, GPG files and iCloud to LastPass. And I can tell you that migrating from one password manager to another is a very laborious process when you have hundreds of passwords. Makes me shy away from self-hosted password managers which can screw me over if they blow up (which Bitwarden actually did to me, I never even got it past the install stage).

How do you mean 'if they blow up'?
4289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Lost smartphone with Coinomi wallet and private keys? on: April 09, 2021, 03:21:17 AM
Did you set up password while setting up wallet? If yes, they can't get to your seed without password.

Regarding keeping all of my "internet" accounts safe I consider myself as "mild" paranoid. I was an user of LastPass even before they were bought by LogMeIn..

New contract creation + security audit, we are looking at minimum 1 month.

Trailofbits and solidified are two good audit companies.

Having a bug bounty for vulnerable code would also help.

Please keep us updated...
I do not have additional info about new contract atm...

Still please try to keep us updated as much as possible, I can understand that many are waiting for the Digital Gold contract and marketplace to be fully usable again.

Keep coming every few hours to this thread and Digital Gold Telegram group to hear some great news.

Fingers crossed team, we are waiting for some updates soon.

your money is gone bro they are scammers and you still thinking they will fix it:?>>>

We'll see.
4296  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Apple is considered safe but still you gotta be careful on: April 05, 2021, 11:59:36 AM
<…> This is the main reason why I go through all the recommendations rating of an app before I choose to download it.<…>
Reviews should be read, but that on its own is no certain safeguard. This particular app has 155 reviews, mostly in the 5 star range. Not a massive amount, but enough for somebody that relies on this criteria alone to install the app, to his later to be met dismay.

It having most 5 star reviews is red flag in itself.

Telegram is filled with scammers, there is high chance even the 'merit sellers' would be scammers.

I use aegis, personally find it much better than Google 2fa, you can back it up encrypted and store it in cloud storage, pen drive to stay safe.
