In the end, I got 15,000 Moon for 5 hours of mining. Traded it at CoinEx for 5,000 Doge, that would normally have taken me days to mine. So in the end I got a good deal out of it. Sort of.

4305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.3 Released MANDATORY UPDATE on: December 31, 2013, 06:36:33 PM
so there was trojan or some virus in mooncoin wallet? in which one? how to check if i am ok?

The one that was like 0.1 meg and spammed by a user with -7 trust.

Probably JackyM or something like that. He has been pushing his trojan wallet yesterday as well in the Moon launch thread. The guy should be instabanned for that.
4306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! LAUNCHING 12/30 @ 1PM EST on: December 31, 2013, 06:34:18 PM
Releasing the source in advance to a select few constitutes premine in my dictionary. At best, the whole.thing was rather messy.

Anyway, Moon is looking good sitting beside my dead BTE's.

We released to one launch pool. We did this deliberately and our reasoning was explained both here and on our blog. It was a public pool, open to everyone. Nobody was excluded from participating. It was that or risk real pre-mining and chain forking.

The OP stated that Multipool would be available. "You will have access to a trusted, third-party pool (Multipool.us).". No more, no less. There was nothing in the OP explaining that Multipool would have prior access to the source and that Multipool was to run the program 15 minutes before anyone else even got the chance to download the source.

Quote
The two things we did not plan for:

* DDOS that kocked me off-line for 10 minutes so I could not post updates or keep people informed of status at our launch pool.

The only thing needed was releasing the source when Multipool went live. Thousands of people were getting angry here, hearing that a few lucky guys got access to Multipool (my pre-registered account did not manage to get through on Multipool those fateful 15 minutes), while seeing some updates from you in this thread but no source release. None, just time ticking by while the lucky ones were instamining minute after minute via Multipool.

Quote
* The massive number of people that were attempting to use the pool simultaneously. At one point, the pool servers had load averages above 700! The mooncoind was literally crashing over and over and over until people backed off a bit.

If you take the unexpected downtime out of the equation, everything else went very well.

I have seen worse, indeed.

Quote
Consider this scenario:

1:00:00 PM - No DDoS and pool opens to the public without any crashing
1:00:05 PM - Source drops to github.
1:02:00 PM - Other pools finish their compile and launch mooncoind.

That's what was intended from the outset.

My big question: why was there no source available while a lucky few where having the time of their lives with Multipool (known to the thousands waiting and waiting, screaming to release the source for God sake... yes, I can be melodramatic...  Tongue ). The source should have been released the moment that Multipool was up. Via a mobile phone, your neighbors' PC, a friend or whatever. But that's all history.

Quote
I agree it got messy  [...]

At least Moon survived all this.

Thanks for your response.

Well.... someone was mining while every pool were locked out of the source for the first 35minutes.
Oh and multipool which was support to be ready from start were ddosed to pieces during the entire time...

This coin had one of the worst releases of em all. There surely was premise involved.

ref: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=392035.0;topicseen

All of this has been gone over time and time again. There was no pre-mine.

4308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.3 Released MANDATORY UPDATE on: December 31, 2013, 03:17:21 PM
does anyone know what happened to the Doge Road?

I hoped it was going to be the trigger which would blow dogecoin to the moon  Undecided

Watch http://www.CoinPayments.net for the next vote.  Cast it for DOGE and get amazed.  There are some powerful venues begin developed for digital currency in general that could change the way the world views all the coins.  Release is scheduled within a couple weeks.  The coding and security need cleaned up before they are made public.  2014 is the year for crypto Wink

See, that's the thing, people need to start making more and more services that accept Crypto-currency, only trouble is it's rather hard for a business to adopt a currency that fluctuates so much in price. And I don't blame them. Until these currencies become less volatile I'm afraid legitimate services won't be accepting them, and the only thing they will really be good for is speculation.

Hopefully though as more coins are mined the price will stabilize a bit

There is something in the works for the entire crypto world.  Launch day is not that far away.  I have spoken with the devs and it promises to be a blockbuster.

This looks very promising, also in view of full support for the entire crypto environment and not only a few selected coins.

Once practical use of crypto takes off, nothing will stop it.

First mover advantage was sufficient for Bitcoin. But the market will decide.

Everyone loves Doge.
4312  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Market Psychology For Dummies: What to Expect in 2014 on: December 31, 2013, 08:12:09 AM
I think that Doge will go further than anyone could imagine. Not the value perse the actual use as Internet money and something kids exchange by mobile phone.

The ultimate spread of the idea of crypto currency.

Anyone who thinks Bitcoin is too expensive or a bubble, will love the ridiculous Doge which can be had in the 100's easily. Psychology matters.

Besides, people always love free money.

BEHOLD! Dogma!

Quote
Since inception, Bitcoin has had a flawed DNA.  It was dreamed up in a virtual world -- by computer geeks -- but was to be applied in the real world.  Bitcoin is steep in Libertarian and anti-Fed dogma but weak in understanding of how global economics, central banking policies and financial markets function.  The lifeblood of the global capital markets is money – greenbacks -- transactional currency that facilitates commerce.  Virtual currency can create value and efficiency but it needs to be linked to fiscal and monetary policy.  To assume currency can be computer generated, run in a decentralized manner and outside of the central banking system and controls is farcical and economically dangerous.

If you can get around the many typo's, this is quite interesting. [....]

BTC isn't just an innovation in virtual currency, it's an innovation in a stagnant area of financial tech that's been untouched for almost 100 years [....]  a piss poor form of technology.

Thanks for your thought provoking post.

Indeed, think of the possibilities if exchange does not encounter the barriers found in today's financial environment. Times will be very different if money itself is widely available with prices set by the free market. I am thinking about the time of the Colonial scrip, which apparently worked quite OK. As long as authorities who issued the scrip did not overissue, all went fine. In terms of crypto, the limitation in issue is found in the protocols themselves. The danger of overissue lays not with the issuer, but the ability of anyone to start his own altcoin.

Well, that is a lot more transparent than a central issuer of scrip suddenly deciding to overissue, in secret or openly. The free market will put a lid on 'overissue' by too many altcoins.

In case of open source crypto, this may work out just fine.

For traditional banking (the honest version), there is a lot to be conquered in this field. Profits are awaiting for those who dare.

Moon proves the same as Dogecoin. Digital money can be created anytime without boundaries. That means a shortage in money will never exist anymore. The free market will do the rest, setting the value of that newly created money.

Remember: if after launching 50 alts, another 50 alts will be released in 2014, a fixed value attributed to the whole lot will theoretically spread over all. Thats only a 50% decline, not counting inflow.

But for Moon there is only one step left: listing on Cryptsy to dump this coin. Cant wait for the Hitler parody.

What a day. I will be hodling this thing like BTE. Might show up in digital museum of failure.

Back to Doge.

Still does not take away the fact that Multipool had the source long before anyone else. It was a dick move.

The reason it was done this way was clearly outlined here:

http://mooncoin.wordpress.com/2013/12/29/regarding-pools-and-chain-forking/

It was done this way to prevent a forked chain.

None of this was mentioned until now. Just posting the link at rush hour does not constitute proper communication.
Your communication was not optimal.

Now, on to the exchanges with this coin!

WALLET UPDATE:

We apologize for the lack of a wallet. We didn't intend for the qt source to be placed on the git as it is clearly unfinished. But in the rush to get the source out, it slipped by.

We now have the wallet un-doged and corrected. The source has been committed.

If there is anyone out there who can assist with compiling the Windows and OS X wallets, it would be of tremendous help!

Finally, thank you!

Windows Compiled wallet here, sick of the stupid doge text;
