Do we all need to upgrade to this new client?

I see Round 30 has begun but no payouts yet.

You dont need to it should be compatible with old clients.

Thanks.

No after many googlw searches found it:

http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/

I suggest we add this info to the new devcoin website under earnings and payouts.

Also we should try to integrate the dvc usd ticker intothe website somewhere too..

Same thing really, but yeah there are quite a few things that could be added or linked:
That
DVC/USD charts
Block explorers
FAQ - some of us working on that.

Neither of those links work. The charity link is where the receiver files generated from the python script go. At least I think so. Someone can correct me of I am wrong.

I proposed a bounty for qt images and icons.  (e.g. new icons for the overview, address book, etc. and an image of the Devcoin logo inside the qt as well as the "about" sidebar)  There were a few objections so I am laying out the suggestions:

1. 8 shares for the best set of images and icons, 4 shares for the second-best set; If sidhujag can add an image to inside the qt he gets 1 share as well
2. Only 8 shares for the best set, no second place
3. 4 shares then 2 shares
4. only 4 shares
5. Cancel the bounty, nothing happens

Also, what is the "real" logo?  Is it the one on the old or new client?

Work for me they take a few seconds to load..
These are dynamic pages that will update so its better than simply posting csv files as stats are not done and thats what I wanted to see.

This way you wont have a descrepancy between official round info vs site info because someone didnt bother
updating the website for a few months.

Let people first and foremost provide music for free (and get compensated in DVC), so other people can use that music for free in their projects.

It seems MarkM's point is being, largely, missed.

If we are talking about free music then the authors of said music can simply release it to the public domain. That is not the same as Open Source.

How is this poem at devtome open source?

All I know that is one of the most amazing poems I have ever read!!!  Wink (my poem)    lol

I've also posted a business/investment plan on Devtome re. http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now#investment_business_plan

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=development_exchange

Feel free to rip into and criticise it.

You receive 12 shares for your plan.  There is one investment plan bounty remaining for 12 shares, and then the next five will be six shares.

Here's my investment plan, based on arbitrage. http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=my_crypto_investment_plan_-_arbitrage

Bounty: I don't know what's involved so not in a position to guesstimate effort. When I noted the objections it was just to point them out, not to say whether 8 or 4 or whatever is right. What is involved? Do existing files just need resizing or is there a fundamental difference in the art style of new client vs those images?

How is this poem at devtome open source?

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=epic_love_poem

Please explain this. Is such a poem open source, because I can go ahead and change words etc?

One would have to contact a lawyer experienced with copyright to know how much of a change one would have to make to a piece of literature to call it their own. My guess is that it could be challenged after a certain percentage of it had been changed. This is not the case with Open Source source code.

It is also not the case with music. If you released a piece of music under Open Source I could go through it changing every 8th note (mean the one after 7 not the actual eighth notes) and then copyright it as my own. Granted it would not be exactly like the original piece but it would be darn close. You could not do this with an Open Source program.

Don't I destroy the work of this poet if I just switch words around as it pleases me?

The original author as well as many of the audience may feel so; yet that is totally subjective and has nothing to do with Open Source. There is no such value judgement in the license.

I can also give people access to the MIDI-Files and all the tracks (if for example my music has 8 tracks, people can download all tracks separately)... So people can remix and mashup my music and potentially (if they know what they are doing) create something new.

That is certainly getting closer yet because of the unique laws surrounding music copyrights tampering can mean you end up owning it and take the finished tampered piece out of Open Source.

The poem on devtome is free too, won't you agree?

Yes, because it would fall under the copyright laws surrounding literature. Yet a modified version of the piece may well not be free and may become proprietary at a certain percentage of change. A lawyer would have to be consulted to confirm that theory.

I think we can all agree that everything that is posted as open source is also always free.

Software without question. Literature at least in it's original form. Yet releasing to public domain would have the same affect.

But not everything that is free is open source. But artists can make their art more or less open source by giving access to all work material. But this is difficult if part of their work material is in their brain.

Therein is the rub. That is probably why the Creative Commons licensing came into existence. It seems to me a more common sense copyright for pieces of art, be they musical or literary.

A program is basically a drama, play or screenplay, or maybe choreography: a set of instructions directing actions / movements / activities, albeit the instructions themselves often can be in static form.

For all the images, you have to use a tool that supports the 8 bit transparency layer of png images. MSPaint does not work as you will get a white block for your image that looks pretty ugly if used. You have to have a little bit of knowledge on how to manipulate images... some photoshopping experience is probably required to do this.

1)  Created 256x256, 128x128, 64x64, 32x32,16x16 versions of the devcoin logo used as in the qt wallet  https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin/blob/master/src/qt/res/icons/Devcoin256_X256.png

2) Find the devcoin logo online and convert to icon format. Icon used in taskbar and titlebar of qt. https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin/blob/master/src/qt/res/icons/devcoinico.ico

3) Testnet version of the devcoin logo by changing the color of the logo internally to orange. https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin/blob/master/src/qt/res/icons/devcoin_testnet.png

4) Create icon from this png file aswell like step 2.

5) Added qt logo used in about qt of wallet, was using an online url but I put it the icon folder and referred to it from there. It wasn't showing any icon before version 1.0.8 https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin/blob/master/src/qt/res/icons/devcoin_testnet.png

6) Use devcoin logo to create splashscreen banner when qt starts  up. https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin/blob/master/src/qt/res/images/splash_Devcoin.png

7) Use devcoin testnet logo to create splashscreen banner when qt starts up in testnet mode. https://github.com/sidhujag/devcoin/blob/master/src/qt/res/images/splash_testnet.png

Overall I believe 11 images were created/modified/handled to complete the task aswell as the changes in the code to support them.

Ok so you've already done it, seems a bit of work involved.
Someone's going to say this so may as well be me - the problem is you haven't used the devcoin logo.

I posted that because their news section has guidance from their government that trading Bitcoin could be hazardous to their financial health. They then paused all trading a couple of days afterwards. It it not my experience that websites return from these types of things.

I could be very wrong though.. Smiley

I didn't know what the official logo was so I used what was in the old source repo and then just used what I can find (a logo with transparency intact).

Now that I know the official logo, I will update in 1.0.9.

Where is that site that shows payout information like how much a share is worth this round etc? Shouldnt this info be on our website under "Earnings and Payouts"Huh
http://d.evco.in/charity/

No after many googlw searches found it:

http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/

I suggest we add this info to the new devcoin website under earnings and payouts.

Also we should try to integrate the dvc usd ticker intothe website somewhere too..

I know that it is just a simple download to check the receiver files on a daily basis but does anyone think a daily updated blog would be a good idea? It could be used to make the receiver file information a little less "tech" looking for newbies. I was just thinking this because the information in the file is freely available to the public anyways.

It has been my experience over the last week or so that the file is updated between 20:15 and 20:30 CST (GMT -6)

What do you think the bounty should be, having spent the time on it? In the context of what you outlined and what other bounties are 8 seems ok to me, if not others.
