Watch http://www.CoinPayments.net for the next vote.  Cast it for DOGE and get amazed.  There are some powerful venues begin developed for digital currency in general that could change the way the world views all the coins.  Release is scheduled within a couple weeks.  The coding and security need cleaned up before they are made public.  2014 is the year for crypto Wink

See, that's the thing, people need to start making more and more services that accept Crypto-currency, only trouble is it's rather hard for a business to adopt a currency that fluctuates so much in price. And I don't blame them. Until these currencies become less volatile I'm afraid legitimate services won't be accepting them, and the only thing they will really be good for is speculation.

Hopefully though as more coins are mined the price will stabilize a bit

CAT's actually ARE smarter than DOG's. Today. And the rest of January.
CAT is kinda a weak attempting at "cashing in" (harharh) at Dogecoin popularity lately. The only reason I see it even used is by people who wished they jumped on the dogecoin train early.

Plus the early miner advantage is much higher with Doge and is based on a (I hate to say it) fresher meme than lolcats. Catcoin popularity is probably not going to be longlived. Really most altcoins don't really have much purpose over BTC, and the fact Dogecoin got popular at all is that it didn't take itself lightly. If the competition does however, they're kinda losing the point why Dogecoin got popular in the first place.

This will be a unpopular opinion but if someone asks me to buy a specfic coin for serious longterm investment, I just point at BTC. The rest is for fun, but none of the altcoin offers anything really other than being more "fair" at mining (which actually makes said altcoin more vulnurable to 51% attacks). Altcoins can be a fun investment for those who find that BTC have turned boring volatility wise though. Wink

There is something in the works for the entire crypto world.  Launch day is not that far away.  I have spoken with the devs and it promises to be a blockbuster.

If you have a service that accepts DOGEcoins, get them listed here  www.dogedir.com

Netcode is proud to say we haven't lost single user’s coin due to glitches/security breaches/pool operator error(this is a common occurrence in pools unfortunately)

Helo doges.

I wanted to upgrade my dogecoin-qt for Linux and went to ~/dogecoin.

There I commanded git pull to make source current.

Then

$ qmake
$ make

But it fails because of some upnp issue:

src/net.cpp:21:32: vakava virhe: miniupnpc/miniwget.h: File not found
compilation terminated.
make: *** [build/net.o] Virhe 1

Also qmake was babbling something about UPNP. Now, I do not want UPNP in my network. Do I need to disable it with some switch to qmake? I do not remember how I originally got the source code but I guess it was via git as "git pull" worked as expected.

Thanks.

Sorry. I found it from my history:

no, you are right, it all goes back to btc, doge is fun, time will say if we'll get to the moon, i'm optimistic because of the great community being build around.
2 sensible posts in a row...in this thread...well i never! Hopefully it stays spam free for a while Smiley
Cat and Moon coin both tried to immitate Doge in different ways, but both are a failure for the same reason imo. They fail to realise that the community aspect outside of the crypto world is whats driving Doge. People seem to view hype levels by only looking around at what is on the first page of this AltCoin forum section when really that part means nothing. Those in the know about crypto are already here - its the fresh meat it needs to attract who are full of enthusiasm and looking at potential. There seems to be very little excitement or interest for developing services within this Alt Forum because too many people have seen too many coins come and go.

The coins need a vastly larger audience to create the demand outside of this niche forum to succeed as a currency, and thats exactly what happened with BTC in november once it spread through the news and media; and in turn has already driven announcements such as overstock.com looking to support BTC this year.
If doge continues to draw in people from alternate communities whether it be facebook social groups, starcraft online gamers, or a set of close nit 10 year old kids that hang out together in the playground these services will continue to grow for Doge because people enjoy receiving and spending their coins. Basically the more places this happens outside of this silly 'cryptsy exchange bubble' the more chance doge will have.
Hopefully itll grow. Services such as the Doge API https://dogeapi.com/ i find very exciting.

This looks very promising, also in view of full support for the entire crypto environment and not only a few selected coins.

Once practical use of crypto takes off, nothing will stop it.

I download that but didn't let it run.  Looks like it did anyway.  I ran some scans and got rid of everything. Oh well.
