4361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Give your kids their pocket money in Bitcoin on: August 20, 2013, 02:17:17 PM
Hmm, seems cute to give your kids bitcoins, but maybe more along the lines of an investment than pocketmoney.  I remember my grandma giving me a 10 year usgov't bond when I was young.  Some kinda thing where I was going to be able to cash out 100$ in 10 years or something.  If you gave your kid 1BTC and explained that if the price rose to $1000 .... (just wait and watch, etc).
4362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATM: any news after San Diego? on: August 20, 2013, 02:10:46 PM
Bitcoin ATMs still sound convenient.  I predict some government will allow them somewhere, no?
4363  Economy / Economics / Re: Why The Price Difference Between MtGox & BitStamp? on: August 20, 2013, 02:09:06 PM
Here is what people are doing *

1. Buy BTC on Bitstamp
2. See higher price on MtGox
3. Sell BTC on MtGox
4. Realize you can't get cash out of MtGox
5. Panic sell at higher price
6. LOL at others making the same mistake

*Present company excepted, of course.

This puts it pretty clearly, I think.

I wish I was smart enough for this.
4367  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: USB block erupters are now useless. on: August 20, 2013, 01:46:19 PM

As for the $5 being the "correct" price are you willing to sell me your BE for $5?  I get the feeling when people say things like "this ASIC should be $x" they only mean they would buy not sell at that price. Of course if that truly is the correct price they would be happy to sell theirs off at fair value.

Unless they legitimately don't want to sell because they are interested in keeping the product.  I might agree that a fair price for my widget is $N, but I still might not want to sell it because then I'd have to go buy another widget.

Still, I think your point is well made.

Sure, it could be fun.  I guess the issue (like others have said) is programmatically finding announcements of new coins with confidence.

Whoops, I was trying to use yesterday's unused code for tomorrows game.  Guess I'm outta luck.
4371  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: www.coinbook.me on: August 17, 2013, 06:54:31 AM
Good luck with your info gathering.  As for myself, I can't see how it would help me.
4372  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (Node.js) Build your own bot kit for CoinChat on: August 17, 2013, 06:16:55 AM
How to Install node.js and socket.io-client?
Depends on your OS.

I'm running debian wheezy.  I just got the source and did ./configure && make && make install (basically).
4373  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (Node.js) Build your own bot kit for CoinChat on: August 17, 2013, 06:07:00 AM
I've really enjoyed making and testing bots on coinchat.  It's taught me a lot about node.js and socket.io  I really appreciate the opportunity!
4374  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bit OS, the Dark Penguin is in Alpha, Looking for developers on: August 16, 2013, 07:06:47 PM
Not that this isn't interesting, I suppose it'd be useful on a usb stick.  I may try it out sometime in that context, but I don't think that I'd be installing it on any of my machines.  I'm too used to standard debian to go switching distros.

Good luck Snowden!

I'd contribute if I had more myself.
4376  Economy / Services / Re: Get up to 0.30 BTC a month for your signature! on: August 16, 2013, 06:44:03 PM
Ok, I've put you in there.  I understand you're paying again on 23 Aug?  Looking forward to it.

Everyone gets a payment in different days, depending on when the person enrolled. Your first payment will be a month from now.

So, the idea is that you pay me based on the number of posts that I make since enrolling?  That is, you don't include my previous posts.  Is that right?
4377  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [FREE BTC] ShareFaucet.tk - free BTC for doing nothing! on: August 16, 2013, 06:36:04 PM
The inputs.io thingy is apparently very popular with the faucet makers and I guess it makes sense because they dish out such small amounts.  I also found that coinbox.me is reasonable for these purposes though.
4378  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Android users look over here! on: August 16, 2013, 04:05:32 PM
This is the only forum where people actually been suspicious. . Anyways. I dont see the point of being suspicious about an android app.. whats the worst that could happen except for your phone getting keylogged or crashed. Theres no way an APK could entierly ruin a phone?

This is totally dodgy.  Unless subtector posts the source for his app, it seems obvious he is looking to do more than just survey screens.

subtector, if you want people to trust you, why not address the concerns head on:

  1) reveal more about your project by talking about *why* you want to collect the information that you say you want
  2) reveal the source code for the application that you want people to install

Given that your reply to people security concerns was "i don't see the point of being concerned", I think this makes you seem all the more suspicious.

Good luck!
4379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Alt coin will be the 3rd successful coin? on: August 16, 2013, 04:01:37 PM
I suppose that the 3rd coin won't really be established for some years now.
