4361  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The Chili – 30+GH/s BFL based Bitcoin Miner Assembly on: December 26, 2013, 04:05:55 PM
Still hashing this morning at 39+Gh, peaking at 40gh, but the third statistic in BFGMiner is still about 2gh less (the one that is shares submitted to pool and accepted). Still not quite sure why, the rejected shares is <1% and errors are at a solid 5.5%.

Have heat sinks coming for the FETs, yes they are hot even with a fan on them. But man this $49 water cooling thing from newEgg is incredible. I have a dead jalapeno board coming in without chips so I can use that to see how/if I can fit water cooling on my J units. Well worth it.

I think it's a joke, but then again in 1994 I wrote the first E-commerce web site as a screaming joke. Didn't expect more than 2 people to use it, we got 100+ people to sign up for the conference.

That code was in use for 18 years. Go figure.

Try using a low speed like 1. Also what do you see with the Handy Dandy BFL Commport scanner?

Is it possible the heat sink itself is broken (bad heat pipes or something)? I've found that if I run my water block at too fast a flow rate the temps on the board go way down along with the hash rate.

Try a water block cooler like that $50 one on NewEgg. 36gh hashing as reported by Eligus, 39gh reported locally (why the difference I do not know...)

Really busy with the holidays, but Merry Christmas or happy what ever you celebrate. So I got my 2 new jalapeños yesterday thank god. So I watch them for the first day mining one at 7Ghs with 4% hw errors and an 8 with 2% hw errors. So I'm like wtf and start looking at the boards. One has 3 chips on it!!!!!!! I started geeking out wondering why it wouldn't be initiating when it's obviously recognized. Figure it's prolly clocked down and I'll be reflashing after the holidays. Just wanted to let you guys know, only one of them has 3 chips. Dissect that.
Enjoying Christmas here. Fortunately my shipment is stuck somewhere in Kansas, otherwise I wouldn't be playing with my kids and all. :-)

So BFL's switched over to three chip jallies. Very. Very. Interesting. Did you happen to order the 2gh bump-up?

Which way is the fan blowing? And of course pictures would be cool.

what drivers i must install for flash the chilli

because with winusb drivers
i can not flash my chilli
i must put other drivers
any link of drievrs Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
The factory ones with Windows. Fastest way to get them is to go to device settings, find the chili, uninstall drivers, and remove drivers from device. Then unplug replug and it should install the right ftdi ones.

Then use BFGMiner.

So how can I get the stale shares count down here? I'm at 39gh shares, but only 35 recognized as valid by the pool (eligus). Cut down my difficulty? Get a better pool?

Jesus! It was a joke. Looks like I am really new to this forum. Why is everyone so serious here? Shouldn't have included the last part.
I was expecting stories not insults. Any mods reading this please close this thread thank you.

@lightfoot Yes I know how that feels like when someone never gives you any credit for something but I don't have any BFL. But I am not a fucking beggar once again.
Wow. Lightfoot really hit the eggnog last night. :-) Sorry for being a dick here, maybe it's the DOGEcoin stuff or something.

As I have said in other places, this is a fascinating forum for insight on the human spirit. I think I just got a bit of insight into mine......

It's all making sense to me: I shouldn't be doing research, posting results, and helping other people to get their fucking Jallies and BFL gear running; they will never tip you for that even though you turned their 8gh system into a 20gh system for $50 bucks.

No, I should simply beg for money, that's how the cash flows these days. Get a good sob story, a wallet, and off you go.

This rant brought to you by the letter "H" for "Hoo boy I should go to sleep" :-)

Finally!! A tracking number and actual shipping information on my order of 4 Jalapenos from the black friday sale.... It does look like BFL decided to copy this forum idea with their new 10Gh/s Jalapenos.... I'm wondering if they are 3 chip or 4 chip units and I'd like to see what additional cooling options they've used.
My units are stuck in Kansas since Sat. So I have to spend Christmas loving my family instead of like scrooge with his gold bitcoin miners....

I am going to guess it's 3 chips, clocked to speed 4 or so which will run the chips at pretty low power and low heat. I've done 3 with the stock heat sink and case; temp goes from 35 to 50 or so.

Going to 4 requires some more firepower. 5 requires a heat pipe sink to fit in their case (and the case starts to become a heat sink in it's own right). Not sure about 6 or more....

Recently had a jalapeno experience fast flash of the red led... one of the original chips was the cause... error cleared when I pulled the associated chip... that chip to led map is a lifesaver and should be blown up, cleaned up and reposted as a separate entry here on the thread.
Congrats on fixing it. Did you put another chip on?

People that get involved with bitcoin thinking it is an easy way to get rich are going to be disappointed. Even in Bitcoinland, in order to get rich you will have to do a lot of work, or risk a lot of money.
Or be very lucky. I'm finding that luck is one of the key things in what many call "success".

Lightfoot, just order the 0.5mm balls and manually place them on the chip to re-ball it. Better ROI.
Tried, damn near impossible. Spent $10 on a set of stencils and a cheap holder (the $2 one). Will try that in Jan.

-S all works for me with 3.8.1

However I have a question: BFG keeps reporting the local hash rate for the Chili+2 jallies as 62/64/60. Why is my submitted shares so much lower; looks like I am losing 5gh.

Chili is the bigger one 38/38/35gh. .7% rejected, 5.5% error rate.

Anything special I need to set in BFG (Windows 32 bit)

Side note: My chili and big miner (the 20gh jally) are both running on the Corsair power supply. Power factor is well over .91, which is an exceptional improvement of the .5 from the crap-o BFL supply and .6 from the crap-o 300 watt ATX supply.

So there you go.

I have forgotten my super long & extra secure passphrase and after guessing for more than a thousand times I have finally I decided to let go of my 990000 satoshis.

It is not much but it feels like I have lost everything and broke up with someone Sad
Anyone has the same experience? or worse? Do share. Thanks.

I accept your consolation

Quick question: Is it possible to just backfeed your 1 volt (or whatever it is the chips need) supply line from an external source? I was kicking around designing a board like that for blown BFL 50/60's, but increasing difficulty made it silly to invest in.

4377  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hacking a BFL Jalapeno to 20GH and beyond.... on: December 24, 2013, 05:17:27 AM
So it looks like ButterFly labs is getting into the jally-jumping game.

They're advertising a new 10gh jalapeno. Which I am betting involves boards with three chips on them, not two. If they run the 3 chips at a lower clock speed they will reduce heat, and could run them on existing equipment.

Josh did you get the idea from here? :-) If so call them "Lightfoot's revenge" or something like that.

4378  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 5x complete, ready-to-mine "Chili" miners on: December 24, 2013, 04:12:22 AM
I have 13 total.  Although they run in my chilly basement, they are not all situated equally with regard to direct airflow over the boards.  That really is the key to getting top performance out of these.  What that means is, several of the sub-35Gh/s performers actually have further potential.  BAL 8 is watercooled, btw.
Yep. I have a cheap-ass $40 Ebay water cooler on my new Chili; 36-37gh speed. However there is a secret. I wonder if I should say it or have people send me bitcoin for it. :-)

Fuck it, I can't not: Reduce the speed of the water pump and your cooling system will work much better. Reason is high flows impedes heat transfer, which is what you want. That's the difference between 33gh and 37gh.

4379  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The Chili – 30+GH/s BFL based Bitcoin Miner Assembly on: December 24, 2013, 04:06:36 AM
This is a *very* unusual board. Cooling is God, but what produces the highest hashes is not always what you think it will be.

For example, it's currently at 65-70c and hashing at 36gh+. Right now the fan on the radiator is at full speed, and the pump is running slower than normal. If I stop the fan the temp on the board drops down to 50c, but the hashing rate falls to 31gh as the water temp in the loop goes up. Spin up the fan again and speeds climb along with board temp.

I think one of the things Mr. Teal is doing here is watching temps *on the chips themselves* and adjusting his hashes. My error rate is a rock solid 5.1%, that might also be in the code. But it's possible that chip temps could go up, hashing would slow, which would lower board temps. The BFL units only have board temp sensors so they run more conservatively.

However man does this dopey water cooler work. For $40 or whatever I got it for on Ebay it's doing one heck of a job. The secret though is to reduce the pump speed a bit. Try it and see if that boosts you up in speed. Also what's the fastest Chili out there (I still intend on putting an air cooled heat sink on this thing's bottom. Might get more performance!)

But all this also means I should really push my turbo jallies a *lot* harder. Time to start overriding the clock speeds and gunning them up a bit. However you can't do that on a stock BFG 25/30 or 50/60 as the 1 volt power supplies will not handle the load. Mr. Teal built a... bigger... solution there.
4380  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The Chili – 30+GH/s BFL based Bitcoin Miner Assembly on: December 24, 2013, 01:07:15 AM
NOt bad. Board came today, so I assembled it with the $49 water cooling thing, some washers to hold the heat sink on those stupid sockets, and off we go.

Speed at first was good, but was rejecting 25% of my work. Restarted BFGMiner, cut the speed on the pump somewhat with an inline resistor, and now I am getting 65c, 38/38/36 (why is acknowledged shares always so much lower???) with a HW error rate of 5.7% and a R rate at the moment of 0. I might try slowing down the fan on the radiator a bit as well, loud.

Note: Running the water pump slower cuts down on noise a lot and increases thermal effectiveness. I'm guessing because the dwell time of the water on the plate allows a higher joule count when the flow rate is below turbulence levels. But then again I flunked fluid dynamics.

Overall not too bad. Wish I had bought a dozen, but this little guy should make back it's .7 investment. And it's cute too!

Very impressed Mr. Teal. If we ever meet at some meetup I'll buy you a beer and you can tell me how you got all 8 chips >4gh.
