You don`t have many gamblers on this forum, you have more people that like to talk about it and get paid for that talk rather then gamble. I have fun while I gamble cause I like to gamble, with money its fun without money it is just a games for kids, with other words without money involved you just don`t have that feeling, that thrill, that is the best explanation you can get. Calm down, I don't have anything against gambling(I actually like gambling and chance to win big money and be in that rare circle of luckiest people), I am just trying to figure out something.
I also gamble for fun using real money. Playing games in facebook or other apps/games is fun but it is not exciting and thrilling. I guess winning/losing real money makes the difference. Simple explanation but thats the truth.
You may also compare it to trading in a demo account and trading in a live one. You can be a winning trader on a demo account but a loser on a live account. Emotions play a big difference.
So basically your comparison is gambling = trading: trading in demo account(playing for play money) = trading for nothing(playing for nothing), trading for money(gambling) = trading to earn money(gambling to win money) although you said that you are gambling for fun only?
For the same reason why alcohol was banned in the USA from 1920 to 1933, and was banned in some other countries during various periods of time. Yes, most people use it for fun drinking responsibly. But there are others, they are called alcoholics, who abuse it turning their life into hell. To protect the abusers governments ban alcohol, some beneficial drugs, gambling etc. Do these measures make the life of the abusers better? I don't think so. Using real money on gambling is more safe than using your bitcoin, if you use fiat on gambling, you could not lose too much, but if you are going to use bitcoin, you are going to lose too much profits since its price is more high than the price of fiat, it is a wise move. You can play the odds and look at a total run of 1000, 10,000 or 100,000 rolls. It is not completely luck based, same thing could be said about poker as well if so where the best players only play the % over a total number of hands. Also one more reason - lots of players are emotional, that is not good for poker and it can decrease players chance to win because pissed player is making terrible moves. As for dice, it is game with negative expected value and you can't apply bankroll management because in long run everyone lose. It won't make any difference to gamble with whole bankroll in one session or to divide money to hundred small bankrolls. Strategies won't help you in long run, however you can be lucky to win something in short run. Math isn't on your side: 49.5% chance to win and 50.5% chance to lose, which means it is better to place few bigger bets rather than 100000 small bets, because if you place few bets you might hit few times in row and actually win, while in case of putting 100,000 smaller bets you will win 49500 times and you will lose 50500 times, and overall you will lost 1000 bets. If you apply any kind of strategy, more rolls you make higher chance is that very long bad streak will occur and eventually it will. Whatever you do, no matter how pissed/happy/cold-headed you are you can't change outcome of the game, you can choose under or over and that's it, no matter what you do outcome will remain the same, so with all this said you can't really compare dice(100% luck) with poker(12% luck, i've read statistics..somewhere), they are not even similar. |

Not sure why Poker is "to some extent" +ev according to you.. IMO if you know what you are doing Poker is your best bet at increasing your bank roll if you just stick with it over a long period of time and if you manage your bankroll well.
And not just bankroll management, it is skill to read people and make the right decision at the right time, skill to trick your opponent. There are lots of strategies, books, videos and tips about poker, what to play and when to play, if you know how to play it you will make profit. Not sure I can agree that Dice is just completely luck based as there are certain strategies/systems that you can apply to your playing.
I'll pick number 0-100 and you have to guess is that number under or over 50. How is that not completely luck based game? Any strategy can work on short, but for long run strategy will eventually stop working and you will lose. People who made profit were lucky, nothing else. |

From what I know there is a difference of fun and excitement of winning real money from play money. Of course you are risking your own money just a chance to win more with it, the fun and excitement will be less when you are just playing with free money which we all know don't have any value at all to us. And also if I gamble, I gamble for fun as if I gamble for money I am expecting at the end that I will win something which is really depressing if I don't produce the result that I want.
How are you risking money if you gamble for fun only = paying for entertainment? Doesn't make any sense. I never assume that gambling is just for fun.

This is the reason gambling sites always grow rich and gamblers always make losses in the end. Becuase you know already you can't make money from these games in the long run but still, you want to play for profit. I always play these games only for fun. 99% people here(this forum, this board) said that they are gambling only for fun, according to you all gambling sites would have died already. People who gamble for fun knows how much they can afford on these games on each session to enjoy their free time so they will not be under stress if they lose that money. But people like you who gamble for profit will be under stress if they lose money.
So, your logic is - whoever is gambling to win money is gambling more that he can afford to lose? That is not true. Bolded part is nonsense. People who have lost more money than they can afford to lose will be under stress, which is something completely different. Because fun is one of the things we like and we seek. What's the use of money of you won't use it for your own entertainment? Some people use money to buy gadgets, watch movie or gambling because it's where they will enjoy their lives. But always keep in your head that too much is bad.
You are not watching movies? You never go to cinema? You don't do anything which entertains you except gambling? Ok, forget about that. You can't have fun without paying for it, is that it? Sorry, I don't really understand this post. ~
Those who gamble for money reason seems to be not having fun at all because they gamble the money they earned for their living.
Lets say both of us can afford to lose 50$, so your logic is: Gambling with 50$ just for fun(YOU) = good = entertainment = thrill = excitement = everyone is happy Gambling with 50$ to win money(ME) = wrong = addiction = not fun = losing money I earned = everyone is sad Do you see how your assumption ridiculous is? |

I don't agree on anything said in topic, every user has right to send as many merit he wants to send unless theymos restrict sending merits to 1 per post. Besides, you are off topic.
Thanks a lot marlboroza for the merit! It's nice to see that my posts are considered relevant & are not spam. Don't let me down down down... To be fair.. let's demoted 2 rank to all ranks so they must reach their Merit to get their previous ranks before the system update.
But I still can't find a way to prevent spammer/shitposter/famer with this method alone.

Legendary become Sr.Member, Hero become full member and Sr.member become member and so on.
So the system will be accepted without any rejection in unfairness method that happened.
Merit system has been implemented because some guys thought it will be great idea to create dozens if not hundreds new accounts to spam forum with one-line-zero value-meaningless-nonsense-hit&run-joined-godbless-goodluck-off topic posts. Some of them improved posting quality over time but most of them didn't, so, you want to punish old members because of such spammers? As the matter of fact you are a way off topic with this post. This is not discussion about merit so would you please stop spamming my topic with nonsense? |
